  • "My family continues to choose Polpo when we try to figure out a restaurant we all want to go to. Superb food and service. In a town with loads of restaurants, this one is outstanding."

  • "The experience was better than the last time I was there because this time I was with a "regular." We were given the best rather than the worst table in the place, the service was very good rather than obligatory. The food was still mediocre. Beef carpaccio was watery and mushy from having been frozen, with no flavor. Angry lobster, their signature dish, was good, not great, was served barely warm not hot due to long wait between courses. The valet parking ticket (you must use the valets, no self-parking option permitted) says: suggested tip $4.00! I have never seen that before and think it is presumptuous and high for a valet tip, especially at a small suburban restaurant where the valet has to walk only a few steps to get the cars."

  • "We have been to Polpo enough times to know that the food is always going to be good. I can't recall enough about the service oft past experiences which can only mean it must have been fine. Generally speaking the hostesses are friendly and the owner walks around checking on things. Our waiter, however was pushy and impatient. I actually might think twice before heading back there."

  • "Although the food at this restaurant is very good, our overall experience was not. The restaurant has valet parking and you can not park your car yourself, unless apparently if you "pay off" the valet attendant. When we walked in to the restaurant to talk to the person at the front (who was apparently the owner) he said "What, do you have a Bentley?" He was extremely rude. After we waited some time at the bar for our friends to arrive we requested to be seated at our table when it was time for our reservation. Although the table was ready, we were promptly sent back to the bar to wait for our friends who were running late. This was now the second time we were made to feel unwelcome and uncomfortable at the entrance to this restaurant."

  • "Food was outstanding. Pastas executed perfectly. Chicken parmesan as you have never had before. Amazing chicken dish stuffed with fontina and proscuitto. Tuna tartare fresh. Angry lobster to die for. And an amazing deconstructed napoleon dessert. Nothing disappoints here. Service was professional and friendly."

  • "Though we have been there many times, we were treated as strangers. When checking coats, a pushy woman tried to check a coat between us as we were handing our coats to the girl. It turns out she worked for the restaurant and was trying to get "known" people in first. We were put at the worst table in the back, after passing many empty tables for 2. I asked if another was available, the maître d' snapped at me a curt "NO!" with no explanation. The glasses on the table were dirty. The food was fine, nothing extraordinary but nothing wrong either. Service was adequate, no warmth. We were not offered the board with specials until we asked for it. No effort was made to engage us or encourage us to return. Noisy, kids screaming at next table."

  • "Polpo is my father's favorite restaruant so I requested his favorite spot - the room next to the bar on the first floor. I requested it via open table and then again on the phone the same day - I was told they would try but it wasn't guaranteed. Not only were we not seated in the room next to the bar - we were put in the very back room on the second floor. This room was empty - absolutely no ambiance. It felt like the mediocre Italian restaurant down the street - dated and tired tacky decor on walls with crumbly looking walls and lurking waiters. The waiters were rude - lurking, not giving us time to figure out our order, trying to rush our dinner. I was extremely disappointed and will not be back any time soon."

  • "Went Here on Valentines Day, What a Giant Mistake. 1st of all we were seated at 915 for our 830 reservations, which we arrived at 815 for. 2nd, the restaurant offered no sorts of apology complimentary beverage or anything for the additional 45 min wait. 3rd we were rushed through our meal, my girlfriend requested some appetizers to start because she was very hungry and the waiter rudley said, i'll come when your whole order is ready, we're to busy to take appetizers first. Possibly the worst Service ever, took another 45 min to bring us our food, the food was good but nothing special, but the terirble service already left a bitter taste in my mouth. I work in Greenwich and will be sure to NEVER recommend this place to any of my co-workers."

  • "I arrived 15mins before my reservation and was told to wait at the bar, my table would be ready shortly. During my 45 minute wait at the bar I was approached several times by three different maitre 'ds with three different waiting lists. My name went on each list multiple times, meanwhile, the number of people waiting at the bar continued to grow. Finally, I angrily approached the podium and told them if I'm not seated in 5 minutes I would be leaving. They were not nice about it, but we were seated and enjoyed a nice meal and a complimentary after dinner drink. This restaurant has been around for a long time, unfortunately, they handled a busy evening like a bunch of amateurs."

  • "We ordered the boulliabasse, the lobster was dead when it was cooked. The meat in the tail and the claw was mushy and stuck the the shell. We mentioned it to the person who cleaned our table, he pointed to a bunch of dead looking lobster sitting on ice. This gentleman was one of four who stand around and help out, it was a little strange. The scallops are also very bad quality. For a seafood restaurant they do not serve good quality seafood."

  • "Had a so-so meal at Polpo a month ago, but my wife and I have had so many great meals there over the years, we went back. And it was great. The Captain even remembered that we were not happy at our last outing, and made it up to us in a nice way. Branzino (always good here), fresh Salmon (ditto) and Calves Liver were all judged superb by our party. Service very good, but seems to lag a bit when the owner, Ron Rosa, departs which he sometimes does later in the evening. The decor and atmosphere is very inviting. You can eat in the bar, but that can be pretty noisy early in the evening. By the way, any guy by himself during the week, will find eating at the bar a great experience. Love it."

  • "Our first table was next to an incredibly noisy group...but we were moved quickly. Lunch was delicious, the service helpful and attentive. My only complaint: the line for "captain" on the credit card slip. I'm happy to tip for service received...but too many extended palms is offensive."

  • "Going to the bar at Polpo's for a late supper couldn't have been more pleasant: well-mixed cocktail, fresh, tasty salad, half-portion of excellent pasta, and a glass of classic chianti. That's one version of heaven-on-earth!"

  • "Where should I begin. We had a 6:00pm reservation and when we showed up they told us they could not seat us to wait in the bar. Mind you, the entire restaurant was empty besides two tables. Then, when they did seat us, they did so in the bar....strike two. We asked to be moved. I've been to many poorly managed restaurants in my life, but this one takes the cake. I thought the wait staff was rehearsing for a Saturday Night live skit. Complete incompetence and rudeness to say the least. The wait staff seem completely confused the entire night and got several orders at our table incorrect. They also screwed up the orders at the table next to us. And...the restaurant was for the most part empty when we ordered. The food was ok."

  • "Poor service! if ur upstairs, it's worst. food temperature so inconsistent....husband dish came out cold and then last night my GF entre was unbearable...if ur there @6pm & ur dining downstairs, they rush you! every 2 mins, they asked if you are ready to order. different waiter arrives, ask if your ready. I was not even finished with my appetizer, muscles, which i still have 5 left to eat and the waiter asked if i'm finished, i'm like no, i'm still eating, horrible! overpriced 2b rushing anyone out of their restaurant so they can turn the table....the last thing i want is 2b rushed out of a restaurant when i have made plans w/friends to enjoy an evening out. 2many restaurants 2choose from. WE R NEVER going back!"

  • "I must say this will be the worst review I have ever given. I am ashamed to explain the terrible attitude tonight. To start we were sat perfectly and were then basically attacked to order our drinks and dinner. No big deal. There. Wife's Cosmo was so poor like fruit juice. My was fine. Salads were so in dressing and couldn't eat. The manager or owner then screamed so loud at the waiters to get a table ready and then through the table to make it bounce on the floor. How unnerving that was. Dover sole was good. The chicken campanula was the worst dish I think I ever had.soaked in butter and oil an inch high. I had two bites. Then the waiter and manager never came near me. They knew it was so bad. Never said a word. Neither did I. Disgraceful"

  • "Very disappointing apparently our waiter was a trainee? Staff was in conflict with each other food was just okay. Table was terrible and we left ASAP after eating about half of very generous portions of pasta. This used to be a place we would think about going to on special occasions; now we probably will not return again. To top it all off, the valet service took the headlights on our CRV off automatic which we did not notice and so the next morning, since the lights were on all night, we were lucky it started!"
