Diner Reviews
  • "Items on buffet were fresh and of excellent quality."

  • "I have lived on the islands for 20 years, and this restaurant remains one of my favorites. The service is excellent, the food is superbly prepared, and for island restaurants of this caliber, it's cheap. The ambiance cannot be beat. Highly recommended!"

  • "Went on a Saturday night for the buffet and we were very pleased with the food quality and selection. The service was excellent and the Oceanside view fantastic."

  • "Great seafood buffet. Everything was fresh and delicious!!"

  • "15 of our Hilo High School classmates had nothing but priase about Plumeria Beach House. We enjoyed the scenic view, food, relaxed atmosphere and service. So many commented on how they enjoyed their meal. I loved the Pipikaula Reuben with cheese and avocado. Many have not been to the Plumeria Beach House or if they had, it was quite awhile ago, so this was a special occasion for many and some made a special effort to attend this luncheon."

  • "My wife and I went on a Saturday night, when the focus of the restaurant is entirely on a wonderful seafood buffet. There is only a limited ala carte menu when they do the buffet, so I can't comment on that. We had a table that just outside with an ocean view, but under an awning - an asset when it began to rain. The buffet was super. I especially enjoyed the freshly made seafood pasta."

  • "Our second week in a row to experience the seafood buffet ... but, definitely not our last!"

  • "Wonderful Breakfast Buffet choices. We enjoyed coming here every morning during our stay at the Kahala."

  • "The service was really the star here.... the food was lovely too and of course the view amazing... But the kindness I received is what will make me a Wednesday morning regular."

  • "We took our co-worker for the curry lunch buffet because he is leaving our company. The restaurant was great for talking and eating."

  • "This restaurant was exemplary in every way! Wonderful food, great service and of course, the view was stunning!"

  • "A splendid retreat for brunch and lunch. A good buffet with a nice selection. Staff is friendly and always courteous from hostess to wait staff. Their standard lunch menu can be modified a bit to reflect a little more imagination to its menu selection; however, food overall is good. Beverages are fabulous."

  • "This was to be an early Father's Day dinner as my husband had to work on Sunday. I read a few Yelp reviews and some had one and two stars, so I was slightly skeptical. Driving to the restaurant a torrential downpour occurred and as I wanted this to be a special, outdoor, beautiful view evening-I grew more skeptical. We got to Plumeria Beach House and it was bustling! We had to wait a few moments as they had to move diners in from the lawn due to the rain. No problem. We were seated at a beautiful ocean view table. The buffet was a Hawaii themed buffet and every single dish was delicious. I wished they had Kiawe Sirloin instead of Prime Rib (not my fave) but the Service made up for that. The restaurant was busy, yet our dining felt intimate."

  • "We went to the Plumeria while we were staying at the Kahala, and really enjoyed the breakfast buffet! They offer a wide range of selections, Japanese pickles and rice, an omlette bar, belgian waffles, tropical fruit…The coffee is fantastic, and it was a great experience!"

  • "Been to the Plumeria Room for lunch, as well as experienced the p.m. tea service, on a number of occasions, but this was the first time experiencing the weekend fish buffet. Absolutely outstanding! Food very fresh, creative, abundant, lots of selections ... epicurean delight. Service absolutely impeccable even tho it was buffet style ... Christopher stopped by and briefly chatted at our table and made us feel very welcome ... everyone very friendly and service-oriented. Will definitely be back, and tell our friends."

  • "Port of call theme was Hawaii. Therefore, I would have expected more Hawaiian style entrees. Baked fish entree was very good. Others were not as tasty. Poi was very watered down for a local dish. Sashimi, poke, sushi and salads always very good. Service was less than expected --- should not have to ask to for water replenishment nor to ask for coffee at dessert. It seems the wait staff might not have been attentive this evening. Also, shouldn't the staff know that the restrooms just outside of Hoku's were closed and therefore not direct guests to those restrooms? Why didn't they know about the Father's Day buffet? We do enjoy the seafood buffet. Hopefully, the next time will be a better experience."

  • "Location can't be beat, broad ocean views, few tourists. Good selection has good variety, quality of ingredients is so much lower than before with higher prices. There used to be fresh squeezed juices, now from concentrate. Coffee used to be fresh Kona, now some average tasting blend. While quality of almost all ingredients has decreased to lower cost to the property, the food isn't horrible, it's just pretty good, the amazing view makes it hard not to come back."

  • "The food was excellent and the service unbeatable. It was so relaxing we stayed for nearly two hours. No one rushed us. Everyone was kind and went out of their way to be courteous and helpful. It was a wonderful experience! We will definitely go back!"

  • "Great restaurant in a hotel that allows up to 4 free hours with parking validation. You can have a outside or inside table. Food is high quality and lunch menu is well varied for light or heavy meal. They are known for Chinese chicken salad & hot Ceasara salad. Service was excellent. Be sure to dolphins & sea turtles on the grounds."

  • "We've been going to this dining spot since it started out as the Hala Terrace (as the Kahala Hilton). The location and ambience are unsurpassed...as long as it doesn't rain. Over the years, under varying managements, this spot has become less elegant and more informal (not necessarily a bad thing). For the most part the service has always been terrific, with very attentive staff. The buffet food is generally very good, and the choices, especially the brunch meal, are sufficiently varied. This is a place to relax and relish your time on earth. My only gripe is, the coffee was truly outstanding during the post-Hilton, early-Mandarin era, when cups were individually brewed. Today, it's only "good.""

  • "Great room, and great food, went for brunch ( again ) you can always expect near perfection and atmosphere here, staff is tops, from the valet to the wait staff."

  • "I took mainland friends to lunch for an outdoor beach dinning experience only to find the tents from the previous day had not been removed and dinning was indoors only. Food was not as good as it used to be. I miss the mahimahi sandwiches."

  • "One of the things you expect from the Kahala is good service. On this particular visit, we got the complete opposite. The host and hostess did not make us feel welcome when we showed up for our reservation. They smiled and kept on working behind the desk. Finally after waiting a while, we were asked, "Can I help you?". It's odd to think a simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you." would have completely changed the mood. But again, after giving our name, we continued to wait while many empty tables were available. No "Thank you for waiting" or "Thanks for your patience". Just a cool "Right this way". The food took 45 minutes. We are talking salads. Finally after asking where our food was, it came out with apologizes. Think Twice."

  • "This was our best brunch buffet expereince in years and, by far, the best on Oahu. The buffet offerings were diverse, well, presented and constantly refreshed and delicious. The service was attentive - much more than you might expect at a buffet brunch. The oceanside setting and the gracious shaded open-air verandah seating was relaxing and beautiful. Add in a stroll through the dolphin lagoon and along the beach and we even walked off a few calories! The Kahala Resort is as gracious and well maintained as ever."

  • "You cannot beat the quiet ambiance ocean front on the Kahala beach. The food was outstanding and the service was professional if a bit aloof. We split the entree portion of Wonton Soup as a delightful appetizer and then each ordered seafood entrees that were outstanding. The bread pudding was a surprisingly light and delicious capstone to the great meal. It is worth seeking out the Kahala Resort for dining that is much quieter and closer to the water with food that equals other Honolulu fine dining!"

  • "Took 3 guests from California. We've been talking about the Wednesday Curry for years. The only thing missing was Jim Nabors who has been there EVERY Wednesday I've ever visited!! I have more guests visiting from Nevada in two weeks and that's where I'll be taking them on a Wednesday."

  • "Local ingredients! The menu although not extensive contained so many local items, showing the uniqueness of the cuisine and the fact that they all tasted so good was another definite PLUS. But more than the food, it was the restaurant staff that made the evening great. They all had smiles on their faces & did not rush around in a blind daze. Our waiter Brandon was friendly & helpful with our selections, not to mention efficient. There was no long wait for anything. it is really nice to be treated warmly because some tourist oriented establishments do not treat the locals very well, take it from me, I know. It is encouraging for me to see that the Aloha Spirit exists here for everyone. Mahalo"

  • "My family and I used to dine here for every special occasion. Now that I live in New York, I come here every time I visit Hawaii- a vacation here wouldn't be complete without the beachfront brunch here"

  • "It was perfect outdoor dining. Service was attentive, but not annoying; food was ok; ambiance was perfect for a romantic evening"

  • "We found out when we arrived that my reservation had been canceled, but I did not cancel it. It took awhile to get things straightened out. I called Open Table twice and James returned my call. Shane, manager of Plumeria Beach House had called twice to ask Open Table to award me the 100 points since 5 of us did dine there for lunch on Wed., 4/16. Finally, today, 5/17, the points were awarded to my account. It would have been nice to find out that Plumeria Beach House does offer a $30 complete lunch, but not on Wednesdays, when they have the curry buffet. We did not opt for the curry buffet, but we would have liked to have the $30 complete lunch."

  • "We chose to visit Plumeria as an early Mother's Day brunch for my visiting family. It seemed a little pricey, but for a special occasion we were okay with it. After arriving, being sat within a very reasonable amount of time, and tasting our first bite of the buffet, we realized it was beyond worth it - plus you receive 4 hours validated valet parking which allows you plenty of time to stroll the property and take in the views. Plumeria clearly spends their money where it matters - on good quality food, fruits and chefs. We are already planning our next trip to Plumeria when our next group of guests arrive on island."

  • "This restaurant offers great ocean views but it is a bit pricey. They were serving "Indian cuisine" that evening and unfortunately, some of the food(s) that were prepared didn't look appetizing. The desserts and sushi stations however were terrific. Service was great as well. "

  • "My girlfriend and I just got married that day. And with our lifestyle we got treated like queens. There was not a blink in service and we even got a special dessert from the Kahala staff, I mean that was outstanding. It was such a WOW! experience."

  • "Went her for Administrative Professional's Day buffet. I was disappointed there were no raw oysters like last year. Nothing else was really all that outstanding. Plus, it was fairly empty but they sat us outside at a table that got A LOT of sun. We kept changing seats to take turns sitting in the shade...so that should have tipped them off that that was a bad table. Definitely will not go back unless they bring back the oysters."

  • "Fantastic selection of fresh seafood and marvelous salads! The Dessert selections are out of this world and always include the best bread pudding on the island. We love the relaxed atmosphere with attentive waitstaff who manage to remain unintrusive while delivering attentive service. "

  • "Kahala hilton is a little more run down than last year. The food selection was as usual limited, but what they had was very good. You pay for the view, and to be away from the busy Waikiki . We had the dinner buffet which is only offered on Friday and Saturday."
