  • "In spite of the food being very good, it was too loud to really enjoy the meal. everyone was shouting to have a conversation, and the waitress had to put herself in between my table and the next so she could talk with the guy sitting in the back seat. This meant I had a waitress almost sitting on my table while this guy reviewed the entire menu. Overall it was not an enjoyable experience."

  • "We tried Plow & Anchor the first time Saturday night. We'd read good things about the place and were not disappointed. The menu is not extensive but everything sounded good. My husband had the Cioppino and I couldn't resist the Plancha Burger. Both were delicious and the serving sizes were just right. We're anxious to visit again and try more of the menu items. The only real negative is that bar service is limited to beer and wine. We like a cocktail before dinner and had to make do with a glass of champagne instead. That factor won't stop us from returning though. This new independent restaurant is definitely a winner!"

  • "We made a 9 PM reservation and were seated a few minutes early - which was great. I have allergy issues and the chef was able to adjust a dish so I could eat it! Great service, upscale, worth the drive downtown. The menu changes every night so you will never get bored. Definitely going back!"

  • "Our first impression was that we loved the decor: modern, cool colors with back accents. Our table for 2 was nestled near the window (great) but next to a very loud party of 6. The stone floors and high, concrete celiings make noise a problem. To our servers credit she apologize without us having said a word and mentioned that management was in the process of fixing the noise issue. For the food: portion sizes for the apps were small, but the salmon tar tar was very flavorful. Entree portions were decent, but again, we had no complaints. The gnocchi was amazingly tender with balanced flavors. The cioppino had plenty of seafood in a savory (not spicy) broth. We will happily go again once sound proofing as been installed."

  • "I have eaten at Plow and Anchor more times than any of my other haunts since it opened. The reason is that John Adams, the chef, is inventive and has come up with a menu that is deeply satisfying. This last visit, a lunch with my son and his fiance, found us all ordering the fish tacos. Since my son is a pescatarian, he orders that dish a lot. These, he declared, were the best he had ever had. We agreed. Moreover, we had a timing issue, and we were totally accomodated on getting out in a timely fashion. Others might disagree that is the best in Indy. The only other serious contender at this point is Recess. But for me, it is both more accessible than, and more inventive than, Recess."

  • "This was my first visit to P & A and was on a date for this first experience. It was truly a great experience with great ambiance, great food presentation, excellent flavor, etc. the waitress was very friendly and knowledgable and what I like best: did not interrupt conversation nor reach across my food. It's not very common in Indy to have polite wait staff in my experiences, and this was nice to see! I had the hanger steak which was absolutely delicious. It was supposed to be medium rare but it seemed closer to medium or even more. The beer list is very good, something not common in Indy. I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a great urban dining experience. I'll definitely be returning for more."

  • "As noted by others very noisy and warm as if air conditioner on the fritz. Manager runs around looking like a drown rat with perspiration. The menu is very small and eclectic, burger to lavender biscuit with peas for dessert. The gazpacho was good. My husband's salmon was served with a cold center and he asked for it to be more well done when it returned it had barely been cooked. The manager or server never inquired as to his satisfaction. The beignets were 3 large definitely to be shared, but nothing(menu or server) mentioned this. The lavender biscuit was also generous. Nothing stood out and it's doubtful we will return with all the other wonderful choices in the area. FYI the entrance is on 9th st, northside not in the front."

  • "First visit to recently-opened neighborhood restaurant. Decor is great, reminded us of ad hoc. Were early to reservation, so got wine at the bar, however the owner/waiter got snippy when we asked to close out the bar check and get a separate check for dinner... really? So you would prefer us to get pre-dinner drinks elsewhere? We'll remember next time. My duck breast was cooked well, and while over worked (saffron aioli, spreadable Spanish meat, violet petals), each component was good. Husband's halibut was seasoned well in a nice puree, but overcooked. Friend's "kitchen sink" burger was excellent and the best value by far. Server was slow and it was hotter than Hades. Our party sweating and sticky the whole meal."

  • "The place is a gem for food - very light sauces, good portions, reasonable wine list and excellent desserts (especially the beignets - the highlight of the meal). Seating was on time and the service - which was attentive and excellent - was not rushed. Only problem...the noise...a big open room when full (as it was the night we dined) - one can barely converse with your dinner partner - even when just across the table from you. They need to find a way to absorb some of the noise - otherwise highly recommended place"

  • "One of the best meals we have experienced! By far, the best meal in Indy. The duck was masterfully prepared. Lobster Creole was very flavorful. I would have to recommend the Lavender Biscuit for dessert. It is very difficult to describe a dessert that contains peas and make it sound appetizing for dessert. However, while you are trying to figure it out, you will be fighting for the last bite and wanting to order another one. Lisa, our server, was amazing. Can't wait to try again...."

  • "We chose a Friday night reservation that was later and it was still quite packed. The noise level was too loud however, you couldn't hear the server when she spoke. It quickly cleared out and then we were able to enjoy conversation without having to shout at one another. The soup was flavorful and the morels were very tasty. The caviar dip was wonderful but, not plentiful. The English pea salad was small and also delicious but, only wet my appetite. For the main course, the Halibut was outstanding; we shared the dish and were ready to order a second one as it was that good. For dessert both the beignets and the lavender biscuit were our choice and we were not sorry. Overall I was impressed with the menu, service, atmosphere."

  • "We started with the octopus tartine and the salt cod croquettes and both were absolutely delicious. The cod had lots of flavor and a mix of textures. The octopus was very colorful and cooked to perfection - no chewy octopus here! There were three of us, two of us had the ciopinno which was outstanding without being too salty. The other had the mushroom gnocchi, which was also a big hit. Dessert was beignets and the grilled peaches with pound cake. Again, we were not disappointed! We'll be back for sure!"

  • "This location seems kind of cursed for restaurants. I hope Plow & Anchor can make it here! Scallop appetizer was so/so. Was not expecting a sprinkling of tiny scallops and the puree made for too many mushy textures. Entrees were fantastic! Hanger steak was best preparation of it I've tasted. Halibut was well-executed and fresh. With a different appetizer, this could've been a 5-star rating for me, which I don't give out often. Fun, fresh, elevated takes on favorite dishes! I hope it works, stays open, and brings up the quality of the neighborhood."

  • "Just off the beaten downtown path, Plow and Anchor serves up a slightly boring metro experience with large window views of the neighborhood and street. The sparse entree offerings were a little disappointing, but the appetizers were plentiful and could be used to supplement the entree... or, even live on their own. Both of us were pleased with the preparation and presentation, and food and service were above average. The wine list is predominantly European with a couple of domestics, and like the entrees, also quite sparse, but the Jordan chard we chose was splendid. What they do, they do well. Recommended."

The Octopus Tartine was great- it is difficult to cook octopus correctly- and it was wonderful with all the different flavors in the dish. Lisa, our server, was helpful in suggesting items that would change. It is good to have some staple menu items and ones that change. Save room for the Lavender Biscuit desert. Street parking is available (limited if there is an event downtown) but the Central Library has a garage right next door; just something to keep in mind- but NOT to deter you from dining."

It has a pleasant, urban vibe, with pedestrian and auto traffic passing by the windows.The octopus appetizer was wonderful, as were the raw oysters. All entrees were visually beautiful and done with sophistication. Duck entree was excellent. Gnocchi were delicate and very flavorful. Halibut was correctly cooked and seasoned. Wine selections were good, and the waiter helpful. The meal ended on a very high note with the Nutella beignets--delicious. We most commonly see this level of culinary skill in the trendy places in Southern California, not Indianapolis."
