Diner Reviews
  • "The new chef (this season), Aaron, has done a fantastic job sourcing local seasonal food and making it delicious. It's one of those menus where you can't decide what to get because everything sounds so good. Go with a group so you can trade bites."

  • "Beautiful surroundings and delicious food in a fresh contemporary setting"

  • "Out of the downtown scene with beautiful views. The service was great and we really enjoyed the appetizers, salads, and main courses."

  • "Amazing view, but there are only 2 tables that could be at the window since the restaurant is so small. There was a happy hour going on on the outside terrace, so I'm not sure if that's typically a dining option also. Apparently they have a new chef, he introduced himself, has been there only 2 months. Very nice experience."

  • "From the moment we walked in, we had a great feeling about Plato's and it did not disappoint. From the hostess, to our knowledgeable and fun server to the wonderful preparations...it was wonderful. Not an Aspen "scene" restaurant because it is out of the mainstream of the downtown area, but we loved everything about it. Only complaint....could have a stronger wine list."

  • "Great place in a busy town. Easy parking. Quiet. Pleasant. But food was average at best."

  • "The ingredients for my dish were white beans, lobster sausage, and fish. They could have put more beans and the lobster sausage was mixed with a cheap ingredient so they could have included more. The fish was one inch wide and three inches long. Too small for $23. Also, the $$ as listed on open table in not accurate. It should be $$$."

  • "The food was impeccable, the service was amazing and the ambiance was perfect. We had such a lovely time and we're happily surprised with each course! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "Gorgeous view, good service and tasty food. Portions quite small but otherwise no complaints. We will be back."

  • "Extraordinarily pleasant dining room with floor to ceiling nature views. Fine selection of wines by the glass. Knowledgeable and attentive servers."

  • "The setting of Plato's with the beautiful scenery and the intimate space is wonderful. For a romantic evening, this will work. The food however, on this visit, was boring and not the edgy offerings we had experienced in the past. We noticed that the other guests in the room were mainly seniors and maybe that is why the "safe" menu items are offered, but it is not a foodie experience. The Citrus Marinade Salmon was ok but the risotto was salty and the citrus taste was lost if there was one. The prime rib was dry and pretty standard. The scallop shrimp appetizer was nice but again, not really that unique. I would probably go again because the room is romantic but I would check the menu. At Aspen prices, that menu was not worth it."

  • "Plato's upholds the traditional values of Aspen of invigorating the mind, body and spirit, with stunning views of the surrounding mountain landscape, excellent food, and soothing ambience."
    Dined on 8/12/2013
  • "Incredible views, especially around sunset. For Aspen, the prices are reasonable, and everything was beautifully presented and fresh."

  • "Prior to an event in the music tent, we chose Platos for the location. We were tremendously impressed - surprised actually - by the service, the wonderful food and of course the terrific view. Would dine there again quickly, with or without an event at the institute."
    Dined on 7/25/2013
  • "While the view is spectacular, the poor service and mediocre food is not enough to convince me to come back. The restaurant was not crowded, yet our server appeared to be in way over his head the entire night. We went for great lengths of time without any sign of him, until finally the hostess had to step in and help out. The food was average, at best, but I hardly remember it."

  • "Following a 6PM concert by the AMFS in the Tent we enjoyed a superb dinner as light waned in the west over Aspen Highlands. The food was excellent, the ambience very nice and quiet relative to the often hectic restaurant scene downtown. Plato's is predictably good every time and off the track of the crowds found at "the" places in Aspen. Recommend highly."

  • "Pleasantly quiet, beautiful views & vistas, perfect for after concerts. My halibut was very good. Kale caesar salad was tasty and generous portion but way too much dressing. Others also liked the halibut & sea bass with crab cakes."

  • "Food was tasty. A great place for a quiet dinner and conversation!"

  • "We had dinner on the deck earlier this week -- delicious beet soup in particular, very good food overall, really nice hostess and servers... and looking out at the forest and river and sunset. And reasonably priced for Aspen."

  • "Very small dining area, wonderful service and the food was fantastic!"

  • "After waiting for over 45 minutes and asking where our salads were, we were told it would be awhile. When the salads finally showed up, we mentioned that we had a concert to go to and asked when our mains would be out. The waiter said he didn't know, and would we like them to go. Obviously not the reason we went there, so we cancelled them, and asked for the check. The waiter came back, and told us that he comped the meals, which we never even got. How about a drink or salad comp or a sincere apology, never received any of those. On the way out, when the situation was explained to management, they just said, sorry. I understand having a bad night, as it happens, but at least make an effort to make up for it. Not at Platos."

  • "I love the intimate feel of this place. I definitely would return to try more dishes. Everything we ordered was delicious! Service was well-timed and friendly. The waiter's wine recommendation was perfect."

  • "As always, a perfect meal. Food, service, ambiance were perfect. As importantly, it is a quiet restaurant. A place where you can hear your table mates. We go back several times a ski season and also in the summer. It is never disappointing."

  • "the food was awesome. the only reason I gave it a four instead of a five is I have been slightly more wowed at times. But I will say the crusted lamp was wonderful. Service was great and friendly. Rosemary in bar nuts was too good. My wife had to take them away from me."

  • "We had the place almost all to ourselves despite been premium dinner time, however it started to filled out as we left. All the staff was very corteours and the architecture and decor are very nice, mid-late 70's architecture in prestine condition"

  • "very limited menue, both pasta dishes were very dissapointing, when told the waiter, there was no response. the soup was average, the bread was good."

  • "It does not have a large menu. Everything we had was good The quaintness is great. Great location."

  • "We had heard about the view and Aspen Meadows was very pretty but the what came out of the kitchen was one simple outstanding hamburger. Sourced from a local farm, ground on site, cooked to perfection it was one of the best burgers my dining partner and I have ever had. The salad was also very good with the pine nuts adding a nice crunch to the greens."

  • "Very nice restaurant, especially to go to after a performance at the Benedict tent."
    Dined on 7/6/2012
  • "The food was not as special as the view - absolutely one of the most beautiful views in Aspen. The restaurant is a breath of fresh air from all of the crowded, noisy, hot and most of all, pretentious, restaurants in Aspen. I just wish the food was up to par with the gorgeous views."
    Dined on 6/30/2012
  • "Food disappointing and menu is limited. Prices are high for the quality of food."

  • "Lovely, small restaurant. Easy parking. Not noisy, a great place if you want to hear what your dinner companions have to say. Beautiful views."

  • "I appreciate the attentive service and t fact that duffy(?) was very courteouse to us, when our selected wine (cline) was 86 he recommended a second wine deliciouse. The staff was very patient while our group took pictures."

  • "We live in the area but never hear anything about Plato's. We thought we would give it a try. We found the service to be very good and the staff both friendly and accomodating. The food was relatively pricey, good, but not great for the expense. By no means were our dinners bad; just not great. I found the wine list disappointing; a lot of lower end wines. We dined during the day and the view was nice, but would have been more cozy had it been dark. A lot of windows and great views of Aspen Highlands and Buttermilt. We liked the fact Plato's was out of the way from downtown Aspen. The service was definitely the high point of our dinner."

  • "Make your own s'mores either in lobby fireplace or outdoor firepit? Yes please! Entrees were a bit pricey so we opted to share a bunch of appetizers and glad we did. Gnocchi with rib was precious and filling. Soup special a delight. Charcuterie plate a generous portion. Salad was so-so but with delicious marinated artichoke hearts. Valet parking would've been appreciated in the winter. Better lighting indoors and out would set a better mood. Otherwise, a very pleasant evening. And did I mention the free s'mores?!"

  • "Best meal we had in Aspen, hands down. We stayed at the St. Regis and the car service took us, only a 5-10 min drive. The food was also a great value. The service was also outstanding."
