A word from Plantation Gardens

Plantation Gardens Restaurant & Bar is located in a beautifully restored plantation manor on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Dating back to the 1930's, the estate once served as the plantation manager's home for Hawaii's first sugar plantation, the Koloa plantation. Later, the estate was acquired by… the Moir Family who built the world famous gardens that surround the restaurant. Our menu reflects the heritage of old plantation Hawaii, which celebrates the abundance and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Our fresh fish is caught daily by local fishermen in waters off Kauai. We use organically grown vegetables and herbs picked fresh on nearby farms and from our own gardens. Guests may choose to dine on our lanai overlooking tranquil gardens, lily ponds and tropical foliage or in our exquisitely refurbished dining room which features gorgeous Brazilian cherry wood floors, woven bamboo tables and plantation ceiling fans.Continued

"The best food we had during our stay in Kauai. Amazing Ahi, and the Chef's Trio is simply delicious. Our only disappointment is that we discovered this place during our last day, but I'm sure we will be back...."

"We had eaten here a few times before and loved the food and service. This most recent visit was the most disappointing. Our order seemed to take a long time to come out, and we guessed that it had perhaps been delivered to the wrong table (we noticed another couple having what looked like exactly what we ordered). When I asked if there had been a miscommunication, offering the server a chance to explain/apologize, she just muttered something about having "spaced out on" our table. Also, despite there being plenty of available tables, a family with an unhappy infant was seated right next to us, which made the latter half of dinner and dessert fairly unpleasant. We eventually asked to change tables, which the restaurant should have suggested"

"We had a lovely dinner and our waiter, James was excellent. The salads were especially good and we enjoyed our entrees as well. Our only complaint was the location of the table. We were a party of 5 and even though we came in at 6 pm, the only table available was right at the entrance or across from the bar. The table we chose was right in the path of the host and parties walking by. The restaurant is so beautiful it was a shame that this location was so unsuitable. The tables on the lower level are wonderful and make for a perfectly romantic evening!"

"First ate at this restaurant in 1979. The menu -- and the prices -- have changed dramatically in the intervening 33 years, but it still is an outstanding choice for dinner. The food is delicious, but the portions can be a bit smaller than normal with some selections (fish, for instance), but the ribs were substantial. Wait-staff is extremely personable and efficient. I don't think you'll be disappointed in Plantation Gardens."

"Plantation Gardens is one of the Poipu restaurants that seems to get generally good reviews. It's a nice spot, and the outdoor dining on the front lanai is particularly romantic. It was just the food which was disappointing. It was OK, but nothing special. Red Salt is the best restaurant in the area for foodies."

"We ate here on our honeymoon. It was a recommendation from one of our tour guides. They said it has a more Hawaiian influence to the menu then most other places. It did! The food was very good. They use local growers and the fish if the day was so fresh. Drinks were tasty too and though you don't have a water view the ambience was right on for hawaii. Great place to check out on the island"

"We had our best meal out during the 2 weeks we spent on Kaua'i in March 2012 at the Plantation Gardens. From the walk in from where we parked until we got back to our car it was a memorable experience and one we hope to repeat soon on our next visit. The staff was welcoming, well-informed, and lively/fun without in any way being intrusive. Our table looked down into the lovely garden on the ocean side of the restaurant, and everything from our cocktails to appetizer, to entrees, to dessert was served promptly and was absolutely first-rate. Bravo!"

"We had an excellent table on the patio facing part of the garden and a series of Ponds. We ate early and were one of the first parties to be seated and based upon what we saw, if you make a reservation, you will get a better table with a view. Food was excellent. Staff was very friendly, but our waiter could have been a little more attentive."
