A word from Piccino
When we opened the doors of our tiny restaurant in December 2006, our goal was to make Piccino as welcoming as the home of a close friend, our food as simple and beautifully executed as possible. We"re honored that Piccino became a thriving hub of the community. And in May of 2011 we moved from our original space into a new home (dubbed The Yellow Building) on the corner of 22nd & Minnesota Streets, which we share with our friends MAC (Modern Appealing Clothing), and DIG wine shop.

Our menu still features the classic and seasonally driven thin-crust pizzas and polpette (Tuscan-style pork and beef meatballs) Piccino is known for; our salads and soups use the finest organic produce sourced directly from small local farms. Piccino's menu has expanded to include more small starter plates, house-made pastas, contorni (vegetable sides), and special entrees of meat, fish, or poultry. Seasonal desserts and expertly made coffee complete our daily offerings.

Diner Reviews
  • "Piccino is always a pleasant experience. Serving up seasonal freshness on every plate, it never disappoints! My go to for Dogpatch lunch meetings! Also nice for a Friday or Saturday night pizza and wine! PS- if you go during June/July check to see if they have the peach gazpacho! TO DIE FOR! :)"

  • "We loved our dinner here on a busy Sunday evening. The place was packed with locals of all ages including some families with small children. We shared some excellent starters and dessert and a bottle of Italian wine. Our tab was about $80, a great deal for this very lovely evening. We especially loved the goat cheese with home-made zucchini walnut bread with a drizzle of raspberry purée. The cucumber and melon caprese salad was also delicious. The servers and hosts were fun and professional."

  • "We had a terrific experience at Piccino. The atmosphere was bustling, but not too loud. We got a lovely table in the corner by a window and were seated and promptly greeted by our server. The wine list was a nice size for the menu with unique choices. We ordered the bruschetta, the meatballs and a margherita pizza - perfect sized meal for two. Everything was outstanding, especially the meatballs. For dessert we shared a pink squirrel ice cream sandwich on dark chocolate shortbread cookies - also outstanding. We will definitely return to Piccino - exceptional food and excellent service!"

  • "We enjoyed our experience overall. Loved the pizzas, felt the primi were a bit small for sharing. One member of the party left hungry. Meatballs excellent. Not so keen on the dandelion and bean salad. Nice wines. Fun meal out to celebrate a birthday."

  • "Cool place with good food. It does seem a bit like a hipster hang out too. I guess there's no avoiding that."

  • "I have been to Piccino several times with my family and group of friends. Service is excellent, there is different food special each time and they are all very good. My all time favorite is Fungi Pizza, try and you will not regret it."

  • "They were having a bad morning. Brunch is usually excellent. The pastry basket was delicious. Mains overcooked, under seasoned. The server didn't return until we were finished, no refills on coffee or tea. Expensive for food that shouldn't have been served."

  • "The pizza was great and we enjoyed our meal. Sadly, our server forgot to bring drinks, needed lots of prompting and then didn't bring back our leftovers. Not sure we would bring friends here. Might come back for an early dinner with baby."

  • "Every single person who works at Piccino is amazing. The food is suberb. I highly recommend eating at Piccino any time of day and for any occasion, except maybe a romantic one as it can get a little loud at certain times. Everyone is highly enthusiastic about the food."

  • "The entree size was minuscule. I had salmon with roasted potatoes, which sounded hearty and filling, but was a very small portion of fish and a few very small quartered little potatoes. For $26. I expect that when I split an antipasti, have a primo and a secondi, that I will feel satisfied. I left hungry and went somewhere else for dessert. The waitress was apologetic, but it wasn't that the food was not well cooked, it was just not enough to make a satisfying experience. I won't go back."

  • "We made plans to meet friends coming in from out of town at Piccino because of its convenient location, and unbeknownst to us, they had two dogs with them. By the time we arrived, they were already seated outside, on a pleasantly warm day, and the presence of dogs was not an issue. So, we are two for two at this restaurant. The accommodating service and good food will keep it a go-to place for us."

  • "Piccino is just a gem of a place. It's now my favorite lunch/brunch spot in the city. The food is excellent but what really makes this place worth the cross-town drive is the staff -- so amiable, so attentive. Probably only available for a short time, but if it's on the menu order the peach soup."

  • "Although I have dined at Piccino a number of times and enjoyed it this visit was to say the least disappointing . The Saturday lunch menu was at limited with a lack of balanced selections. There were two farm egg selections and a fatty milk braised pork for protein. The icing on the cake was that none of the selections were very good . I mean $15.00 for a selection of house baked goods(3) that's $ $ 5.00 a roll please!!"

  • "We had a group of 7 and everything was lovely. The food was excellent (we ordered a lot and ate family style, as recommended by our waitress). The staff was super nice and accommodated our request to sit outside. They also accommodated us when we changed our minds and asked to be moved inside (it was too sunny for us that day). The noise level was such that we were able to hear each other really clearly and have a fun group brunch. I highly recommend Piccino! Great for groups, great for fresh and inventive food--love!"

  • "Seasonal, locavore gem. A bit pricey - $90 for 2 people who just split 4 things and had a simple beverage."

  • "Just loved the food here. We had the trout and it just melted in the mouth. And the waitstaff was really attentive although they seemed a bit rushed at times."

  • "The wait staff was superb. My lunch date ran into a traffic jam on his way from Palo Alto to the City and was 50 minutes late for the reservation. Despite the very crowded lunch time, there was no pressure to leave the table where I was sitting and the waiter could not have been more accomodating and friendly. Kudo's for maintaining a totally casual, hip yet sophisticated vibe in Dogpatch with fantastic food. "

  • "I had family and friends in town for a Sunday night supper. We ordered several appetizers, two pizza's and a fantastic Cabernet to share family style. It was a big hit with everyone. We enjoyed the ambiance and our server was very efficient and helpful. I will definitely return to Piccino"

  • "We made a reservation for Mother's Day, and we were seated at a communal table. Shortly after we sat down, two women with a small child were seated next to us. Within 10-15 minutes, the child threw two toys across the table towards us. I sternly told the mother that she needed to control her child and his behavior was inappropriate. She barely apologized, but eventually left with the child after another 10 minutes. The food and service were great, but our experience was marred by the bad behavior of the child and the mother's self-absorbed lack of consideration for others. Bottom line fellow-diners: don't bring your child to an adult setting unless they have the manners to match."

  • "we came here for the first time for mother's day brunch. it was a cheery, light and airy space, that was perfect for midday. we shared several dishes, as we couldn't make up our mind. this seemed to confuse the wait staff a bit, but it ended up fine in the end. the stand out dish was the brioche french toast, which was almost bread pudding meets cobbler. fresh peaches were served on the side, which was a great surprise, as they usually aren't at their best in may. "

  • "Had a great family celebration at Piccino's where the menu is very creative, the food is delicious and artful, and the service attentive. Have been there several times over the years and it's always a delight. Great place in SF Dogpatch. "

  • "My gf and I live in the Dogpatch and have been coming to Piccino's for over a year now. The food, atmosphere, and service are the reasons why. You could put this restaurant anywhere in the city and it would be successful, though. The ONLY reason I gave this survey a 4 instead of 5 stars is that the tables are a bit close. Other than that, we'll continue our monthly visits. p.s. If you don't have reservations and you have to wait...be patient (as most are). it's well worth the wait."

  • "We checked in and were seated to the side we were ignored for 15 minutes even though we arrived on time for a reservation, walk in people were seated before us and when we asked what was going on they informed us we should've checked in when we responded that we did they said nothing they didn't even apologize, simply seated us...this is not the first time this has happened to us at this restaurant, just the first time we are writing about it. Their wines are extremely expensive and they are always out of the cheapest @ $10 per glass.. Food is excellent but priorities are skewed!!!!!!!"

  • "They get it right here: clean flavors, ultra fresh produce, focused wine list and warm service in a room with manageable noise levels. Don't miss the white pizza - we shared with a few salads. "
