Diner Reviews
  • "We had never been to Perry Street Brasserie even though we have been to Galena many times. Our daughter ate there with her fiance a few months ago and LOVED it so she took me and my husband there. The menu selections were very good. My husband had the lamb special and he said it was the best he has ever had. My daughter had the seafood special which she had the last time she was there and hers was so spicy she couldn't eat it even though she told the waitress mild. My pork chop was a little tough and spicy too. The dessert choices were limited to mostly chocolate, whipped cream, mouse type selections......not so good for someone who is lactose intolerant. We will try it again as even a great restaurant has an off night every now and then."

  • "Perry Street has a distinctive style. The ingredients are fresh and very well prepared. The bread basket is wonderful with the olive oil dipping blend. Each dish has a unique grain mix that just works with whatever protein it's pared with. I had the St.Lucien special with scallops, shrimp, lobster in a coconut milk and curry broth and couldn't stop from finishing it, even though that meant giving up dessert! My husband had the steak and mentioned that the horseradish butter was very subtle. The big surprise was the amazing nut crusted potato croquette... So creamy and delicious. A must have. We enjoyed every bite of our meal - this restaurant is extremely consistent and producing a high quality product that is totally worth the price."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants in Galena. We try to get there at least a couple times a year for special occasions. They also have great specialty dinners throughout the year (wine pairings, Scottish dinner, etc). Great times with good friends."

  • "We had one of our best meals ever -- you wouldn't find anything better in Chicago or NYC. Seafood was done to perfection. Service was delightful. We had a wonderful evening. It's worth a trip to Galena just to dine here."

  • "we had our after wedding dinner there and it was so charming and romantic. we were pampered and the food was fantastic. they made a special dessert just for us! can't wait to go back!!"

  • "Service was amazing - we even got to talk to the chef/owner, who gave us contact information in case we wanted to know more about any recipe we had tasted. The lamb we shared was cooked to perfect. The best part about the meal, however, had to be the dessert. The chocolate cup was not to be believed - layers dark, milk and white chocolate mousse in a beautiful chocolate egg? Divine."

  • "We have dined frequently all over the U.S. as well as Europe and quite honestly we are hard to please. The experience was excellent and we would recommend Perry Street Brasserie to anyone looking for a fine dining experience. It is obvious that the owners are "really" involved in the business, and it shows. Far and away this is the finest dining in Galena, and I would dare to say the finest that we have experienced in the mid west. On the negative side, the dining room is small so you won't get an intimate setting. However the ambiance is very unique and it is tastefully decorated. We will be back."

  • "Dinner was excellent. Dessert was heavenly. Our server was very attentive but not pesty. Restaurant is somewhat small so would definitely recommend a reservation which is what I did."

  • "This was our group's 7th time eating here and Perry St. has yet to disappoint us. Everything was amazing as always from drinks to apps to entrees to desserts. Our group's favorite side dish is still the pecan encrusted potato croquettes. The duck & quail entree was a hit with my wife. Chef Steve and staff have been amazing with every single visit. I truly cannot say enough great things about this restaurant. It's located on a side street (Perry St.) so it probably doesn't get recognized enough. If this restaurant was located anywhere near a larger Metropolitan area you would have a hard time getting a seat any night of the week. When dining in Galena, make sure you get a reservation here. It may be the greatest meal you've ever had."

  • "Small, noisy and a little hard to find but worth the effort. The menu is amazing and the food's even better. Informative and enchanting to see and learn about the Medievil Brass. A wonderful Dining Experience that will recalled fondly."

  • "We loved our experience at Perry Street Brasserie. It is a small and intimate restaurant and the staff were very enthusiastic and truly seemed to love the food and what they do. I had their vegan entree (stuffed zucchini), which I was slightly apprehensive about, but it was absolutely delicious. The enthusiasm and kindness of the people here is definitely reflected in the food."

  • "We look forward to going to Galena every winter and one of those reasons is for Perry Street! The St Lucia is one of my all time favorite dishes. We also had the ribeye and it was the best ribeye that I have ever tasted. Unbelievable! Thank you for another great meal!"

  • "I'm a Southern girl who teethed on my mom's wooden spoons. Give me a restaurant that cooks things I CAN'T, that takes me to aromas and memories and venues almost forgotten or not yet discovered. Perry Street Brasserie and Chef Stephen Dowe provided that rare gem of a culinary experience. No snobbishness here, just incredibly fresh, plentiful, and delicious food. The last time a renowned chef bounded from his kingdom for a tete-a-tete occurred a year and a half ago in Wengen, Switzerland. What a pleasure to receive tips that I'll apply to my own efforts and to meet such a talented man who feels it would be wrong NOT to share his recipes and his gift. Simply unforgettable, AND IN MY OWN STATE!!!"

  • "We had a great evening at Perry Street Brasserie! I surprised my girlfriend for her birthday dinner with a trip to Galena. The service was excellent and staff was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The duck was completely out-of-this world. The chocolate cup for dessert was amazing. The whole experience was fantastic and I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for a romantic evening."

  • "I love that they change the menu every month, but if there was something I liked the month before i would ask if they could have that again on the day I was coming in. Never had a problem with any meal I have had so far. Everyone working there is very personable and they all help each other. Its like one big happy family. The desserts are to die for!!!"

  • "Wow! What a pleasant surprise. We have been going to Galena for several years and while there are several excellent restaurants there, we were not expecting to find a place with such outstanding food and service. The chef, Steve, and our waiter, Matthew, did a superb job explaining, preparing, serving and just generally informing us about our dinner. And what a dinner! My wife had the "surf and turf" of Alaskan King crab legs and a perfectly prepared beef filet cooked just right. I had a seafood assortment with the crab legs, lobster, scallops and shrimp in a mild curry sauce. Galena is a wonderful place to visit to get away for the weekend. Now it is that more wonderful for us."

  • "My wife absolutely loved this restaurant, I think it is her favorite place now. I would also rate it very highly, but would have to say that food-wise, I have had better, but this place it definitely top 5 of all the restaurants I have been to food-wise. The wait-staff was the best I have ever had. I got the New York Strip with blue cheese. While it was very good, I thought is was just a little too salty and the steak was a little tougher than the best New York strip I have ever had. That being said though, it was definitely in the top 5 steaks I've ever had, I'm just a cynic. My wife thought it was amazing when I let her have some. She got Veil stuffed with some cheese sauce and let me have some, it was amazing."

  • "This gem of a restaurant could be in downtown Chicago, New York or any other food city in the USA. But we are lucky enough to have Perry Street right here in Galena. We are foodies and will actually travel to cities for the restaurants so you can imagine how fortunate we are to merely drive to town for a delicious dinner. Best food ever! Try the Saint Lucia, you'll wish you lived here too!"

  • "We truly enjoyed our dinner at Perry Street Brasserie. The service was friendly, efficient and wonderful, from start to finish. Our choice of entrees varied widely: from mushroom ravioli, to pork chops, to steak, to a seafood special. It was all very good. Only the wild rice mix was a bit off... a little soft in the middle. The rest was very tasty. And we loved the dessert options! Very beautiful, as well as delicious, although I wish the prices were mentioned in the description. I would come back, just for dessert! Love the atmosphere in the restaurant...very cozy and inviting. And again, the staff was wonderful! Thanks for a very special night out!"

  • "We were told thid restuarant was in the Top 100 nationwide. We had our doubts considering it was in the small town of Galena. However, it was all it was advertised and then some. Specialty dishes were outsatnding on chocolate desert was out of this world. I would recommend this restuarant to everyone making a visit to Galena. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable about menu and wine list. Overall a great dining experience for moderate to upper level pricing."

  • "A top notch place and one of the best (if not the) in the area. A small but very enjoyable place with an excellent chef making delicious dishes. My wife and I had two of the specials the evening we were there, curried seafood and medallions of lamb. Both were wonderful. We had the signature chocolate cup for desert enough for four to get a good taste but decadent for two! A place to definitely visit!"

  • "25 years of annual trips to Galena, this is by far the best meal in town. No other place even comes close. It's very small so the tables can be a little close, but does not take away from the excellent menu. My friends all opted for the mushroom ravioli, while I choose the chicken. All were delicious. Julia Childs said you could tell a good restaurant by how good their chicken is and Perry Street's is fabulous! More expensive than the other standard Galena fare, but well worth it."

  • "My wife and myself went away for the weekend to the Galena area. We heard great reviews about this restaurant and we were definitely looking forward to our dinner. We were not disappointed . From the moment we arrived to the end of our meal we were treated with great service. Our server, Heather, was excellent. She knew the food and wine menu. She knew what to recommend and all of her recommendations were right on. The soup, main course and dessert were perfect. This was a great night and we will definitely be back on ournext trip."
