A word from Perbacco
Sleek and modern with one foot firmly in the Old World is the feeling at Perbacco. The restaurant boasts a brick wall original to the historic 1913 Hind building, with other touches such as a bar top and floor tiles made from white Carrara marble. With 16 seats at the bar and 7 more intimate tables, Perbacco creates an atmosphere for a glass of wine or a light bite. Perbacco also features 2 dining rooms, one on the main floor and a smaller one on the Mezzanine, which has the added allure of serving as "theater", with windows to watch all the action in the kitchen below.
Chef Staffan Terje strives to cook the finest food reflecting the Italian regions of Piemonte and Liguria. Handcrafted, house-made salami, prosciutto and other meats are featured at the salumi bar. Filled pastas, a tradition in Piemonte, range from the traditional ravioli to the more exotic agnolotti. Main courses feature traditional dishes such as Bollito Misto and milk-braised pork shoulder with Savoy cabbage.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Perbacco. The food was outstanding. Tables are a little close together, but we were still able to converse easily. This is a little expensive, but well worth it. The menu here features incredibly fresh quality ingredients. I would advise traditionalists to check the menu before going. This is not your old style Italian ristorante. The food is more contemporary and unique. We look forward to returning.

The food was great. I brought my own bottle of wine and the waitress took it after I asked for it to be decanted. She did not tell me that it was a policy not to decant at the table. I had to ask her where our wine went. Do not think that is a good policy. People like to see there own bottle being decanted in front of them.

I'm very fussy about my scallops. First they need to be good size. Next they need to be cooked Perfectly! Not a minute too llittle or too long. These were just that. Melt in your mouth perfect and the corn and lobster ragout they were served with was also mouth watering good. All in all outstanding meal.

I've been to Perbacco a few times and always really enjoy it. The house-cured meats are incredible and every meal people in our group got was excellent. And, the environment is coo and lively, service is great. It was our friend's birthday and they brought out some nice cookies as well; nice touch.

I have a severe garlic allergy and was happily surprised to find out that Perbacco has only a few dishes with garlic. A testament to their ability to design fabulously tasting dishes. Most restaurants lean to garlic as a flavor enhancer because it is easy. It takes a good chef to have better or equal flavor without it. The wait staff was amazing and considerate. I would recommend it to anyone.

It does not do it justice to call this California Italian because it is so light and sophisticated and different than other fine Italian restaurants....it is better than that. The pastas are light and delicious, the salads are fresh, and both the scallops and the sea bass entrees were perfectly prepared and delicious. The service is excellent too.

The food at Perbacco is delicious and did not disappoint, even for a couple of vegetarians like us. My only complaint was that we felt a bit rushed. It was a busy evening, but we wanted to take our time and order appetizers first, then decide on entrees later. Our server seemed a bit put-off that we didn't order everything at once. I understand that the restaurant was busy, but we were on vacation and wanted to take our time. The food was delicious and they were very accommodating to our vegetarian needs, even altering the risotto for us. Overall, good experience but would have appreciated a little more warmth from our server. I will definitely be back!

My friend (a chef) celebrated her birthday dinner at Perbacco. We were given a table in a quiet spot as I requested, and the restaurant presented my friend a hand-written birthday note. The service was perfect, exacting, attentive, not overbearing. The sommelier helped choose a wine according to our desires, and it was perfect. The food was excellent. The melon salad, burrata, and risotto were among the best we've tasted anywhere, and the capicollo was outstanding. The desserts (panna cotta and an overcomplicated olive oil cake) were a half-notch below the rest of the meal. We both agreed we'd go back next time we are in San Francisco. Thanks for a great meal!

Breadsticks? Really? Rissoto was very good, but the scallops very ordinary. Waitress didn't split the bill as originally asked, when she did so it was inexplicably higher, then the change returned was incorrect and resulted in an argument with another staff member who, when she did the math ended up agreeing with us but wanted us to meet with the bartender who made the change - we told her the waitress could argue with the bartender as that was now part of her tip.

Not bad, but didn't live up to the hype on "Check Please Bay Area" where it was touted to be the best Italian restaurant outside of Italy. Food was OK, but not outstanding. I credit them for honesty in having picked up on the fact that they had opened the wrong bottle of wine for us (it looked very much like what we ordered and I didn't pick up on the mistake myself -- the wine steward came back subsequently and pointed out the mistake), then replaced it without hesitation when my wife decided she really didn't care for it (even though it was close to what we had ordered). The replacement (to what we actually ordered) was, in fact, significantly better. Restaurant is quite noisy -- one has to shout to one's eating partner to be heard.

We had an outstanding dinner. The Pastas were superb as was the Alaskan Halibut with both being prepared and delivered flawlessly. The staff were attentive and helpful. The burnt caramel ice-cream dessert was an out of world experience. The wine recommended by the Sommelier was very good for the price. The Valet Parking was excellent and reasonable. Overall, a wonderful dinning experience.

I was there after receiving an Open Table recommendation. The place is nice, but is more suited for those who leave work and want a bite or HH with co-workers. My problem was more with the cold inside the restaurant than with anything else. You could feel the A/C even though outside was cold as well. But other than that my food was tasteful and well put together.

Salumi platter was boring. Appetizers of melon salad, grilled octopus and seafood squid ink risotto were quite good. Gnochi was disappointing. Main course proteins were inconsistent; pork shoulder was dry and tasteless. Duck breast was too undercooked and enhanced the gamey flavor. Alaskan halibut was the best of the bunch..mmm...butter. Desserts stole the show (panna cotta, peach sorbet, ugly hazelnut cookies were divine). Extensive Italian wine list, we enjoyed a nice bottle of Barbaresco. Service a bit sloppy and poorly timed, but very friendly. So, decent and worth trying if money's not an issue but too expensive to be so inconsistent.

Service is the star at Perbacco. It was our anniversary dinner and my wife and I were treated accordingly--a personalized note, a quiet table upstairs, and a complementary cookie. Extensive wine list as well, with knowledgable staff to offer assistance in selecting. All good stuff and definitely worth the expenditure. The salumi misti app was excellent, as was the dessert and coffee. The entree was not bad, but definitely not distinctive. The pork shoulder was a little tougher than it should have been, and the sauce did not stand out, but the biggest issue was serving it atop a bed of raw shredded Savoy Cabbage. Really threw off what little flavor the meat had. Additionally, my wife's Halibut tasted like it had been dredged in table salt.

Food here no longer impresses, but still a good, "happening" place to entertain clients. I was surprised as I returned to SF recently that Perbacco did not make any of the lists of "Best Restaurants" I checked. I have eaten there 3-4 times before and always thought it was the best Italian restaurant I have eaten at. Well no exception this time. From the Sommelier helping us pick a good Anderson Valley Pinot to the Burrata which was awesome followed by a pasta dish recommended by the server and teh scallops (also recommended) it was one of the best meals I have ever had anywhere. Highly recommended.
