  • "My wife and I decided to try the Grill last weekend and we were very glad that we did. We have both dined at the other restaurants at Pelican Hill and the Grill lived up to the quality that we would expect. The menu was very creative while satill being accessable to most tastes. The service was very attentive and efficient while not being obtrusive. I especially appreciated the friendliness of of all the staff we encountered. Also, I am not sure if this is normal, but our table was visited by both the Executive Chef and the General Manager. This was a very nice touch and helped to make the evening memorable. "

  • "This is a beautiful resort restaurant with views of the Pacific Ocean. Our problem was with the quickness of the food delivery. Our food was served within 6 mins of ordering. Way too fast. We had ordered a bottle of wine and didn't have a chance to begin to enjoy it. The food, for the price, was just ok. We are locals and probably won't revisit."

  • "My husband and I came here for dinner one December evening and sat under the heaters on the balcony. In summary: FOOD: 5 of 5, SERVICE 2. We brought a 16 year old special bottle of wine with us; My husband mentioned to our server that the wine was an old wine, and might need some TLC with the cork. She grabbed the bottle and treated it like a basketball, really. No gentleness involved. She broke off the cork and was trying to fish out the pieces. Then the busboy wasted to give it a try. Really? Finally, we said "don't you have a Sommelier who can help"? As far as the food went, all was excellent, Jumbo Prawn Cocktail, salads, Chilean Sea Bass, Lamb Chops. No problem with with the quality of the food. But poor service will keep us away."

  • "This is a classic should have been better. High prices for food that looks amazing, but afterwards you needed to go have a second meal. Two hanger steak salads, one glass of white wine, and two cappacinos = $113.00 which included tip/tax. Save your money, get an equally great view and go to Montage Resort just down the road."

  • "Love the location and the vibe of this restaurant. The food is great and well presented. The service is impeccable. If you love wine, then you are in economic trouble. The prices are ridiculous..I would recommend bringing your own favorite bottle, even though corkage is a hefty $30. To sit outside and watch a beautiful sunset over the ocean makes it all worthwhile."

  • "We arrived earlier than our reservation, and we're seated immediately with no drama. The staff were very attentive and explained any queries competently. The food was excellent and just enough time was left between each course. We ordered a second round of cocktails, and because these took longer to arrive, we were told these would be complimentary ! Portions were not huge, like many American establishments, but by the end of the evening, we felt pleasantly full. All this and stunning scenery, watching the sun set over Catalina Island - all in all a wonderful experience."

  • "LOVE this place! I've been here plenty of times! Always get the best service! Even the manager offered to take our picture of me and the bf @ our table! U must try the Chilean sea bass! WOW! amazing! Perfect blend for ur taste buds! The filet was also so flavorful! How the have the sweet potato puree and their au gratin potatoes! YUM! If you order any alcoholic beverages, it's well worth it. Since they make your drinks stiff. The atmosphere of this place is romantic. I love how it over looks the beach and on clear days you can see Catalina . This is definitely one of my favorite places to dine at in OC!"

  • "I wasn't expecting Pelican hill to be so economically friendly. We stopped off at the pelican grill which was perfect. We were seated right away and enjoyed our pretzel bread basket, and our tropical ice tea served with mint. This restaurant reminds me of a small lounge with a 5 star feel. The waiters were very nice. He made many suggestions based on what I was already ordering. He also was very funny, kind, and was always on top of getting us what we needed before we needed it. Great good, very nice, truffle mac and cheese, chopinno, basil pizza and a nice goat cheese bruschetta. Very very good. I think this is a prefect date night, with complimentary valet, and moderate pricing. It's a really great place."

  • "Food and service are always excellent. At lunch we had the bruschetta and ahi tuna tartare for appetizers. The bruschetta (roasted figs) was lovely but had that sweetness to it that became a little much when paired with the white wine we ordered. The ahi tartare is a must and is better than any others I've had elsewhere. As an entrée, the pan seared Chinook salmon was a good size, moist on the inside and very flavorful. This place is romantic and intimate in a gorgeous coastal setting. Service is always warm yet professional, parking is easy (valet or free self parking), dining leisurely, and the crowd elegant but understated. No large crowds of status seeking, loud wanna be's that you would otherwise find at the Montage or St. Regis"

  • "We loved the old French toast with pear and cream sauce. The one we tried today was different - with apples. My friend ordered crab cakes and it was awful. The side asparagus was excellent. View was spectacular. But floor where we sat was dirty and sun flower in the vase was dead. Bread - I miss the Sundried tomato rolls. The berries roll was ok. The pretzel bread was much oiler than before, and the Italian bread was hard as a rock. We would rather go to the pool side Coliseum next time."

  • "Although I live just a couple miles away, I'd never visited the resort. The grounds are lovely and the service was exceedingly friendly. It quickly dispelled my fears of a snooty, stiff environment. I was greeted very warmly, with an acknowledgement that I needed to be gluten free. Our party of six had a great table by the window. The room is spacious, for an uncrowded and unrushed lunch experience. I have to say that food was just good...pretty to look at but not particularly noteworthy. For the price, it was not a great value. Also, the support for the "gluten free" aspect was weak. Our server while friendly was not involved in the food service, unaware that my burger mistakenly came with a bun and had to be returned."

  • "When in Newport Beach, my husband and I always dine at Pelican Grill, despite the many exceptional culinary options this area has to offer. Unfortunately for us, Valentine's proved to be a disappointment. Service was perfunctory while the food was only slightly above average. At the encouragement of our waiter, each of us ordered the Beef Wellington, served medium rare as recommended by the chef. One member of our dining party received hers much closer to medium well. As the chef made his rounds to inquire about our experience, we pointed this out. Despite his assurances that he would "make this right," nothing was done. For a restaurant that touts themselves as a fine dining establishment, this is unacceptable."

  • "I wrote previously about having to wait for our reservation for lunch this week. We called to say we would be 10 minutes late, but when we arrived the hostess said no tables were available. She failed to mention that the other side of the patio area was free. We waited for 15 minutes before I Went to the desk to check. She told me that the side of the patio on the right was not under her care and we could seat ourselves there. Why didn't tell us that previously is a mystery. The better news it that our wait staff were just great and also the food was very good."

  • "The Resort at Pelican Hill and the Pelican Grill restaurant have a relaxing ambiance that makes you feel like you are on a mini-vacation in just the short time you are there. The servers make you feel special and the food is very good. It is difficult to decide whether to get a table inside or on the patio. The inside is so elegant and comfortable, you want to stay there, but the patio has such a wonderful view (and great heaters) you just can't decide."

  • "They had two large parties in the restaurant while we were there but the restaurant overall was only about half full. They seemed to struggle a bit with serving large and small parties concurrently. Waiter was great. Food was inconsistent. The ribeye steak was neither tender nor flavorful. Lamb was good but not outstanding. Appetizers were better. We were seated across from a counter used for wine and water service. One of the staff bussed a table onto the counter and left a dozen dirty dishes there for about five minutes for us to stare at."

  • "Hostess could use more of a smile. Don't understand why we couldn't sit out in the patio when there were plenty of spaces. Food, BBQ sandwich-bread stiff & not tasty, not enough flavor on pulled pork, salad dressing too thick. Don't mind paying $20 for sandwich if it was satisfying... Waitress did come by several times to refill drinks, $4 for cutting fee is a little high. Ambience was beautiful but because we were inside we didn't get to enjoy as much."

I liked the creative ways the chef treated some of my favorite super foods such as Kale and Avocado. I also appreciate that they are happy to split plates for you, so that we could collectively sample more dishes."

  • "But...I have to say that the last time I came here, our server had to split our bill into two cards. She lost/deleted one of the credit card transaction and double charged my card for the full amount. How is that my fault? How can you just double charge my card without my signature? I called the accounting to figure out what went wrong, and they demanded me to call my friend for her to call her mom who flew back home to Ohio to call in to their office to pay for the bill and then they will revise my charges. How is this my problem when their waitress messed up the transaction? I called my cc service and sent in my receipt and they reimbursed my charges. Annoying!"
