  • "Beautiful ocean view. Nice atmosphere comfortable seating. Very good food"

  • "Set in the Clubhouse of Pelican Hill Resort, Pelican Grill has a beautiful ambience, exellent food and service, and a very traditional menu. You might want to arrive early and wander through the grounds of the resort. I had the cioppino, and my partner had the filet with chimichurri sauce. Both were excellent, though we did have to send hers back because it was undercooked. The offered her a bowl of their tortilla soup while she waited. it was delicious."

  • "excellent location with good food in an extraordinary environment"

  • "Its ideal to have a meal after a round at the Pelican Hill golf courses. But the food, service and ambience are all a cut above golf circle. Worth to drive out there to eat even if you did not play golf that day. Excellent duck breast and Chilean sea bass. Service and ambience are true to 5 star resort class."

  • "We had the chance to sit in the patio and watch the sun drop into the ocean. The entrees (sea bass, scallops, crab cakes) were superb in presentation and taste. The wait staff were attentive, good natured and unobtrusive. The ambience was great - even with young families nearby the noise level was conversational. This was our second time there and both experiences were great."

  • "From the personal greeting at arrival, unhurried atmosphere, wonderful panoramic view at sunset, The Pelican Grill delivered on all accounts. Oh I forgot to mention the food! A wonderful eclectic choice (my date, a vegetarian even marveled at her choices). Highlights were the Chilean sea bass served on a bed of forbidden rice and surprisingly an iceberg wedge salad with enough fresh ingredients to make it standout. Give yourself enough time to enjoy this dining experience and you won't be disappointed."

  • "My wife and teenage daughter ate here one evening. We had an outside table with a view of the sunset - spectacular! The food choices were extensive. The specials and many items in the menu were well explained by our server (Mark) who was very attentive throughout the evening. All of the food which was ordered was tasty and the wine was very good. My wife's sea bass was particularly outstanding and my daughters' pasta was very tasty. This is a special restaurant. We enjoyed the ambience, setting, food and the excellent service. Try to get a table outside before sunset and watch the sun go down over the Newport Coast. We are returning again for the final meal of our vacation and have requested the same outstanding server again."

  • "I have dined at Pelican Grill in the past as well as Andrea, and the Coliseum pool & grill when I stayed at Pelican Hill Resort. The service is always impeccable, the views delightful. Food can be spotty, but generally well prepared and at times innovative. However my visit this past Sunday with a party of 5 was quite disappointing. While our table was charming and the server efficient, the first thing that greeted one of our guests when seated was a dirty fork. Of course it was replaced along with an apology and complimentary order of Bruschetta. Then came our food, with three of the orders fine but the other 2 problematic. One a salmon order, had some weird barely edible accompaniments, the other a cob salad, missing proper ingredients."

  • "The Pelican Grill has been our special restaurant over the last several years because we always have a special experience"

  • "This was one of our most enjoyable evenings. It was our 46th anniversary and the staff was fantastic. Kevin, our waiter, took more than enough time to explain everything, from the wine list, beer list, and the menu. The food and ambiance was superb. It was truly a wonderful experience."

  • "It is hard to think about anything other than the service being so terrible. Our waiter who finally showed up at our table was totally flustered and not so nice. Again with disappearing act as we had the same experience the night before. Only ate there again because finishing golf at 8:00 and we were staying there. All I can say it terrible service. Food and view could not make up for it."

  • "Food was not up to par, but the view was magnificent and watching the sun set was absolutely breathtaking. Service was stiff and uneven. Waiters would disappear and you would not see for a long time. Seemed very disorganized. Disappointing."

  • "This place has a great view and pretty well tasting food. The atmosphere was very romantic. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and he liked it to. I would definitely return. A little pricey so I wouldn't eat here once a week. but very nice for special occasions. Birthdays, Anniversary's etc."

  • "The outside dining area is beautiful. The service is fantastic and attentive without being in your face all the time. They made oysters rockefeller for me even though it was not on the menu."

  • "We had fantastic service. Our waiter was very friendly, helpful with suggestions and there when we needed him. He easily accommodated request for changes to the ordered dish. The view from the patio was lovely and everyone seemed to enjoy the food."

  • "5 stars in every respect- couldn't be nicer. Taken many guests there-they all think it is the best of the best in The OC."

  • "One of my favorite dining spots along the coast of Newport. Beautiful coastal views, delicious food and always excellent service. I enjoyed the beet salad with the addition of grilled chicken breast. The Cobb salad was another popular choice at our table. Everything is fresh, locally-sourced whenever possible and delicious!"

  • "Business lunch last week. Felt the service and the food has gone down in quality... experience is getting stale. View is great and that is what you pay for. Music is terrible. Food was average... salmon was overcooked. Service was slow and used to be much better."

  • "As the number one resort by the SoCal beach, Pelican Grill provides excellent view and great food at a very reasonable and affordable price."

  • "I have eaten here several times and always had a good experience. this time the waiter rushed us to order then we never saw him again. not very good service, the food was also very mediocre. maybe I just got a bad day. the food and service at the resort itself is much better than the golf grill."

  • "good food with exceptional service. Our waiter Mark was knowledgable and so personable. The food was great; fantastic bread basket, wedge salad was fresh and delicious. I had the short ribs which were quite yummy and my friend had the fish which was also delicious. it had a relaxed, yet nice resort atmosphere and I will dine there again when I return."

  • "We had a reservation but they were very casual about letting us sit and enjoy a drink in the bar first. I asked to be outside but not directly in the sun because we had two 80+ year olds with us. They gave us a lovely table slightly behind a post so that we could sit comfortably without the glare and still had a lovely view"

  • "One of the best spots in OC! The service was amazing and the view from the terrace is priceless! Thank you!!!"

  • "I love this restaurant & frequent it for business and pleasure. I brought my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday & we had a lovely time. The food & staff were excellent, as always...with one small annoyance...our biggest reason for coming there is the view. A party was seated next to us, & they asked to have the shade pulled down for their comfort, and their request was granted without the slightest consideration of our desire to enjoy the view. It seems that if that party didn't like the sun, they could have moved indoors! It was frustrating, and we should have said more, but didn't want to hassle it The worst part, was how the other party's preferences we honored without regard for ours. So go, enjoy, but be ready to defend your view!"

  • "We had a great experience at this restaurant. The Veal Porterhouse was the best I have ever had. The Wine List offers enough to entice you to get a bottle which will work with dinner. Our server was well trained and friendly. Great place for lunch as well."

  • "sitting outside with a view of the pacific and the sun setting, well could not get much better. food was delicious, and being a bread aficionado, love their homemade pretzel breadsticks. service was also excellent. look forward to returning"

  • "waiting about 30 minutes for the food to come, so we ate a lot of bread while waiting and the bread was good. I ordered PELICAN GRILL CIOPPINO and the mussels seems not fresh but the source was good, my daughter liked her ROASTED CORNISH GAME HEN The view is not great because did not get to be seated by the window"

  • "We enjoyed great Chilean sea bass, pizzas, soup, delicious fruit drinks, and an amazing chocolate molten lava cake with sea-salt caramel filling and fresh whipped cream. It's pricey - $120 for 3 people for lunch, but if you need a break away from it all, this is the place! The service was impeccable."

  • "We went here for our anniversary dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Every staff member we encountered was friendly. We did not have to wait long for service and the food wqd phenomenal. We might make this an annual tradition."

  • "I went to this restaraunt for Fathers Day and was disappointed. They need to learn how to cook steak. I had the Flat Iron steak which I ordered medium rare and it was served rare more than a little pink inside. I had a mimosa which came with very little orange juice and mostly champagne. Most places give you the orange juice on the side so you can add as much as you want. Pelican Grill is highly rated which is why I went but I found it to be overpriced for the quality of food they serve. The view is very beautiful and it is an impressive place. But I would not go back because I know I can find better food at another restaraunt."

  • "Our server was excellent, the food good but not outstanding. Was disappointed in the loud traffic noise from the road below. Also, the trees really need to be trimmed as they obscured most of our view."

  • "I always like coming here to the Pelican Grill--the staff is sweet and friendly (servers) and the food well-prepared. The views are fantastic, of course, if you sit outside on the heated patio. This part of OC gets pretty dead for late night. We were there early in the usually quiet bar--however, this was hockey play-off night and it was raucous (for a five star hotel). All in good fun, though, as the women with big cleavage meandered through looking for their Kings (or Ducks, hockey pun). When my date and I were seated for dinner, all was quiet. Our server was a little inexperienced, but she got it all right--the wine was wonderful, and hey, we could see the lights on Catalina Island. The resort seems a bit empty for peak summer."

  • "Excellent evening of dining with good friends. Service was outstanding. Food was very good. A must if you are vacationing in the Newport Beach area. Yes is pricey but worth it."

  • "The sweet and spicy was the best. Rum, mango, jalapeno, mint. The braised short ribs were better than the lamb chops, which were stilngood. The cauliflower bisque was amazing. Spicy tortilla soup was a bit bland. The fruity nutty bread was delicious, wish there was more in the basket. Seemed like there was only one dessert option, the special for the day, or else they never offered a dessert menu."
