A word from Peli Peli
Peli Peli, Houston's most extraordinary new restaurant, is an upscale casual restaurant at the Vintage Park Shopping Center (NW Houston) that features a 30-foot tall, one-of-a-kind Acacia Tree and illuminated sky, live jazz, a Sunday brunch, full bar & lounge, an intimate private dining room and an outdoor patio facing the Piazza. Peli Peli’s menu will feature its signature steak, chicken and seafood cuisine created by Chef Paul Friedman. Chef Paul has had over 35 years of experience in the restaurant industry, having owned and operated successful restaurant concepts in South Africa and Germany, as well as being the creator of Paul’s Pizza Shop, a nationally-recognized pizza concept in North Houston. Executive Chef Paul Friedman has utilized the Peli Peli spice in an innovative, new way to create his own infusion of spice with exotic fruits from Southern Africa and Europe such as Guava, Granadilla (passion fruit), papaya and mango.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This is favorite restaurant outside The Woodlands. It is my favorite of most places in The Woodlands as well. Not too much farther than venturing to Market Street for us and well worth the trip. Beautiful, impressive, delicious. I have never had anything underwhelming here."

  • "The Chef Paul Friedman is a delight, live music is great, wait staff charming, a great reflection on S Africa and the late Great Nelson Mandela .YHWH bless you always."

  • "Our very knowledgeable and professional server explained the concept of Peli Peli and the specialty food choices available. Without doubt, we were served some of the finest foods that were presented in a fresh and artful manor. To suggest "this was the best lamb chop I had ever been served" would be an understatement; to recommend that Peli Peli open a culinary class and "teach the world how to prepare and cook lamb" is closer to reality. The Chef knows meat, the servers know service, I have to recommend Peli Peli as a "must try" restaurant. If South African Cuisine truly is a category I now appreciate why Mr. Ernie Els wears a constant smile upon his face. If you are in The Woodlands, Don't miss this great opportunity."

  • "I will say the food is always great. One negative is the loudness of the restaurant. You really can't hold conversations here. We dined early and saw the chef go to different tables but he never stopped at ours. He only seemed interested in certain people. I love coming here for the food but it is not a very welcoming atmosphere. I guess I expect at least a manager to stop by and ask if the meal met our expectations and when the chef sits for a while with the table directly next to us and never even said hello when he passed was bad behavior on his part. So, the food is great but the management/chef may want to look to make ALL patrons feel welcome because I can go to many other places and feel like they are happy I visited."

  • "From the service to the food, Mattie did us right. The prawns were great, the chicken fine and all in all we had a great time. A treasure."

  • "I had the herb crusted lamb chops and I was quite impressed on how seasoned they were and tender. I really enjoyed them. I had the baby spinach which I felt needed a little more season and also the coucouh was good too."

  • "We came to Peli Peli for a casual dining experience, but was enhanced by the covered patio and pleasant weather. However, out of nowhere, the sky opened up and a 10 minute downpour just emptied out the crowds that were in the open areas of the plaza and were scrambling for shelter. We just enjoyed our South African wine while waiting on our main dish. I had the Safari Steak and my wife had the Madagascar Pepper Steak. We traded bites and both steaks were out of this world! If you're tired of the other local upscale restaurants, then you should definitely try this local casual gem. The soft live jazz ensemble was also very pleasant while waiting to be seated."

  • "The food is so-o-o interesting because of the mixture of spicy, sweet and savory spices! We ordered the evening special not realizing that it came with specific sides, so we ordered sides and duplicated some of the offerings--two spinach servings and two cole slaw servings because one was already included. So, we might have made different choices if we had known. The service was really excellent. The ambiance was enhanced by the band. We enjoyed our dining experience immensely."

  • "We enjoyed a very nice Sunday birthday dinner at Peli Peli in the Vintage. The food & service were outstanding and the outdoor evening dining overlooking the central square was great."

  • "My wife and I had a great time and really enjoyed the place. Good food and it came to us quickly. Our steaks were cooked exactly the way we ordered them, which isn't always the case at some other places. The server was very pleasant. We will be coming back."

  • "Loved Peli Peli with its unique menu. The food was delicious, but there were so many other dishes I wanted to try. Will definitely be returning. We also enjoyed the area where the restaurant is located."

  • "Peli Peli came highly recommended by my sister, and so my husband and I spent our 28th wedding anniversary with you. My husband, who travels all over the states and eats in many wonderful restaurants, really enjoyed the experience. We both were so taken with the flavor of the meals. I, personally, have never experienced such an incredible combination of flavors to the point where I was still experiencing the wonderful after effects two hours after our meal! I cannot explain how this experience truly shows one how the sense of smell and sense of taste are tied together. Thank you Chef Paul for creating...through God...an incredible experience with food! We will definitely be back!"

  • "Steamed mussels. Marinara sauce was good but the mussels were very small. Espetada, prime beef, lots of garlic, recommended Atlantic salmon and scampi, came out warm, I'm surprised they do not heat the plates. Little disappointing."

  • "This place was voted best romantic restaurant in Houston. Upon arriving we were seated promptly. As we were walking to our table we noticed how uncomfortably close the tables were to others. Luckily we had a booth. The second thing we noticed was the extreme noise. You could hardly hear the nice music that was playing by the entrance. The decor in the restauarant is nice but not romantic. My opinion of a romantic dinner with my wife is a quiet one. I do not know how this place was voted best romantic restaurant. The food was good but not excellent. We have had better at less notable restaurants. Overall I would say if you love sitting extremely close to other customers and having dinner in a very noisy place then this is the place to go."

  • "Great food, service, and ambiance. Took my girlfriend for her birthday and it could not have been better. Food was amazing. Drinks were good. It was a little pricey but, I already knew that beforehand and did not mind since; it was a special evening. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to go for a special night or just to get away for dinner during the week."

  • "The food is excellent in both taste and appearance. Peli Peli Restaurant has delivered and is very successful but needs to relocate to a "larger" location. The wait staff is well trained, professional, courteous...should handle fewer clients...overworked and by logic leaves clients unattended...that's not good."

  • "What an amazing experience! The chef is from South Africa, and he uses this amazing PeliPeli spice on almost every dish (Don't worry- it's not the kind of spice that burns your mouth- trust me, I'm a wuss). It is so good! One thing we tried was a mixture of spicy and sweet fruit. Everything was delicious, Service was amazing, the restaurant itself is modern and romantically decorated. I WILL GO BACK!!!"

  • "We've been to peli peli a few times. It is always great food and great service. My husband ordered the special of the night and was pleasantly surprised that the exec. Chef came to our table and carved the beef for him. He explained how to cut it and what cut of beef it came from. We also shared our favorite dessert the sticky toffee pudding. It is ti die for."

  • "My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful birthday celebration on Oct. 15. We were immediately greeted upon arrival. Our reservation was for 8pm, unfortunately we weren't seated until 8:20. On the bright side, the decorum was interesting and eclectic. The entrée that I requested was not available, our waiter quickly suggested something different. Overall the experience was really nice. A new age fusion restaurant with one central focus. Awesome"

  • "For the first time I was disappointed in the quality of the food. Peli Peli has been a favorite of my mind for a long time, but this time the food was more like a chain restaurant not the normal high quality I have come to expect from Peli Peli."
