A word from Paul Martin's American Grill - Roseville
Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We had a rez for Sunday at 5 p.m. We were told we could not sit in the back of the restaurant, as it wasn't that busy yet and "the curtain had not been pulled yet"! My father is severely hearing impaired, so that is why we asked for the back of the restaurant. So, guess where they put us? In the bar area which was so noisy, I had to sit next to him and shout into his ear! THIS IS JUST PLAIN WRONG!"

  • "My Kale Caesar salad was outstanding. However the brick chicken was only good. It was not overcooked, which often happens with chicken. It simply lacked any sort of interesting flavor. I found it to be overly bland. My sister found her large prawns with pasta to be excellent."

  • "Our table of 3 loved this restaurant. We are each different in our food/drink needs and there was something for each of us that we loved. Fresh, fresh, fresh!!! Wonderful choices of food and drink. We had a rib dish, veg polenta dish, and tasty salad and vegetable sides. My favorite wine (although $20/glass) was available and true and my husband enjoyed his non-alcoholic beers. Fresh tea was a hit with our daughter. We savored it all and will be back. We were sorry to have missed ordering dessert. On our way out, we noticed a band setting up and outdoor seating as well. Must mention the staff. Everyone was very polite and professional and made sure all our needs were met. Great service. The restaurant/bar is a gem!"

  • "Great food that changes with the season, all farm to table and locally organic. Service is always spot on and with an atmosphere that is vibrant. There is nothing around that compares."

  • "We have eaten at Paul Martin's numerous times, enough that it's been one of our favorites. We were disappointed with this visit. We started with the spinach dip, a previous favorite. We've loved it in the past, but not this time. There were large leaves of spinach that were stringy and difficult to cut into manageable pieces......and there was way too much of it. The spinach overpowered any cheese flavors and made the whole dish watery. We did report all this to a wait person. My grilled salmon was very good, but my husband's chimichurri steak was nearly raw after he'd ordered it medium rare. It came all sliced up so sending it back didn't seem like a good option. He ate the parts that were more done and we took the rest home."

  • "We had a delightful lunch of grilled salmon on a bed of grains and greens that was truly delectable. Our waiter was cheerful and helpful, and made himself available when he was needed. It's a popular place and was pretty full, which led to a lively noise level, but not so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves. I think the comfortable booth where we were seated made a difference. We've been to Paul Martin's before, and we will certainly be back."

  • "Popular lunch and dinner bistro in Roseville. Atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with excellent servers. Menu has a farm to fork focus. Have visited many times and can always count on a good meal."

  • "Have been here severwl times. Prefer outdoor seating. Dark and cool inside but food always great!"

  • "Great atmosphere. Sunday prime rib special really a great deal."

  • "The steaks were excellent. Also, the green beans on the side were done perfectly. Wine was excellent and so was the scotch. Service was very friendly and the ambience was upscale but not pretentious. Very pleased with our experience."

  • "The service was outstanding and the waiter was knowledgeable and helpful with the wine list. I had the grilled salmon which was great, however, the bed of rice/pasta on which it lay was cold which spoiled the total presentation. There were a couple of ladies sitting behind us who were having a good time and had a very shrill laughter that was disturbing. When they left, we could finally hear ourselves talk."

  • "We've been to Paul Martins several times. This past Friday night, however, you could definitely tell they have made some changes in the kitchen(and not to the better). Spinach dip was watery, salmon had no taste, short rib was very uninspiring. Desserts were good, however."

  • "Was in town to visit my parents and wanted to take them out for a nice meal - not only was the food excellent as usual, JJ our server was outstanding. He had great knowledge of the menu and preparations and was able to give very good recommendations."

  • "The food was delicious. The portion size of the short ribs and the tomato appetizer was pretty small. Loved the calamari. Thanks for a great time."

  • "Our party decided to try the Monday special which consisted of dinner for two, plus a bottle of wine, for $49.95. I did not expect to be able to pick any entree on the menu and get a garden salad for this price. The food was very good as usual. I had the St. Louis ribs, my wife had the spare ribs and both were done perfectly. The portions were normal size but our friends ended up taking some home for another meal. We had a very nice waiter with a great personality who did his best to please everyone. I recommend this special to anyone looking for a fine meal with wine at a very reasonable price."

  • "We had the Mahi Mahi and the Flank Steak. Both delicious and the wine choices were incredible too. We enjoyed dinner on the outside patio, while a warm summer night, it was very quiet and a pleasant evening in Roseville, Ca. Highly recommend this restaurant, no matter what the occasion."

  • "Outstanding place to enjoy a dinner. Had the dinner entries with complimenting wine selection. It was superb. I had the marinated skirt steak. Awesome!"

  • "MEAL was not properly prepared and took a long time. Perhaps the kitchen was overwhelmed? This is unusual for Paul Martin. We were comped dessert, but I am used to meals being cooked properly."

  • "We hadn't been to Paul M's in a long time. It has always been good, but we discovered it is even better! The wine list and menu have expanded and the quality of food has improved over time. Cedar plank salmon, always a favorite, is still fresh, well-prepared, and a generous serving. The mahi-mahi, which I had never had, met the same standard. The only weakness was the green beans, which were large and undercooked. The server quickly offered to replace them, and I chose sauteed spinach from the list she offered. It was delicious (and not OVER-cooked, as spinach often is). They have added more popular wines to their list, making selecting a bottle much easier. We shared a bottle of chardonnay with our seafood. We will go again soon."

  • "We normally love to come here for a nice dinner however this time was disappointing. They changed the menu and took off some if our favorites like the pork chop and the artichoke appetizer. The grilled corn I ordered as a side was cold and on the cob. How is a person supposed to share a corn cob or even eat it with dignity in a nice restaurant?? I could understand if we were at a casual BBQ place but not here. Would have been so much tastier if they took the time to remove it from the cob. Anyway it will be a while before we return."

  • "We would like to try brunch at Paul Martins and will experience the more casual experience of "Happy Hour". Our food was excellent and service was superb. I have often have a hearing problem but, with adjustments to my hearing aids, was able to hear my dining companion."

  • "Went to dinner with a friend on a Friday night, our first time here. The food was excellent, as was our service (I had the Steak Cobb Salad, my friend had Polenta with Chicken). Our only complaints were the noise level (we felt we had to shout at each other to carry on a conversation) and the bathroom could use some attention. We would go back again on a less busy night, or for lunch."

  • "I had a great experience at Paul Martin's. The food and service were very good. It was a bit noisy, but my only complaint is that when a chair was moved it made a horrible screeching sound. Perhaps something soft on the bottom of chair legs would help. Overall, a great experience!"

  • "You would have thought that making reservations weeks in advance our location would have been better. We were seated in an area that had Constance traffic of people going to the restroom ! It sort of made it distractive with Constance movement by our table."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to my husband by a friend, so he suggested that we try it for my birthday. When I entered, I noted that it was very dark, loud and trendy. Trendy is certainly not my preference, but I was willing to give it a chance. The hostess was moderately friendly and wished me a happy birthday. I had the prime new york and my husband had the fried chicken. I also had wine and devil's food cake for dessert. Yes, the food was good going down but both my husband and I left with stomachaches that lasted throughout the night and into the morning, putting a damper on our after dinner plans. When we left, my husband mentioned that the waitress never even said, "Happy Birthday" or acknowledged the special occasion."

  • "It was my fourth time and my wife's first. She had the brick chicken (my recommendation) and she loved it, great flavor and cooked perfect. I had the grilled salmon, moist, flakey, and seasoned just right. Portions are good for the price and be sure to save room for the homemade ice cream!"

  • "Had 6 p.m. reservations for party of 14 on Sunday to celebrate my Son's Graduation from College and Birthday. Although we were promptly seated; we were only afforded one waiter BUT the food service was extremely slow. Although 11 out of the 14 ordered the Sunday Prime Rib Dinner (which the Restaurant advertises as their highlight); our entire party was not completely served our meals until more than an hour later from the time we ordered +/- 7:30 p.m. In addition; I specifically stated on my reservation what we were celebrating; however, NO ONE acknowledged the celebration as such. Up until this time; we've always had a good experience at this location; but it appears that they cannot promptly accommodate large parties!"

  • "Mt wife and I had not been to Paul Martin's for some time and decided to visit as we had enjoyed it in the past. The food and service was, as usual excellent. We had a calamari appetizer which was cooked just right and went well with the aioli sauce. My short ribs with mashed potatoes and my wife's shrimp with linguine were delicious, though they might have been a little warmer. We were very happy that the noise level, while still energetic, was reduced from what it had been on past visits."

  • "Have been to this restaurant many times and was always very satisfied with the food, but not on this occasion . Ordered the Brick Chicken which was barley edible, they should visit Hillstone, Rutherford Grill, Press or Bistro Gon Giavanni to learn how to prepare this entree. Will give another try sometime down the road."

  • "Our waitress was very good and attentive. One of our food choices was very good but my burger was small and average(for the price)! Ambience was good but weekends tend to be loud with large groups gathering. Also inside the choice of lighting makes it a bit dark! Overall a pleasant experience worth another trip!"

  • "The food okay it not as good as it use to be. Menu needs to be freshen up. (we have eaten here at least 10 times) But the place is consistent and the scene is lively especially when they have the live music outside. After the meal we enjoyed a glass of wine and listened to the music. Very pleasant way to end the evening."

  • "I have been to Paul Martin's several times over the last couple years for lunch. I was excited when I got the email regarding their Prime Rib special for Father's Day. My father came all the way from Fort Bragg to have dinner with us that night at Paul Martin. There were five of us, our reservation at 7pm. After we were seated and ready to order, we were informed that they were out of the Prime Rib special! We were all very disappointed. We ended up have other dishes that were more expensive than we had planned to spend on our party of four. The food was fair, not exceptional. It would have been nice to know they were out of the special before we got there since that was their advertisement to get people to come in for dinner."

  • "Tried to reschedule reservation and person on the phone said they'll try to accommodate us but couldn't guarantee so we showed up a time our original reservation time but was told by receptionist that our time was rescheduled. It would have been nice to get a call if our time was changed. Also ordered special for the day but was told later that they ran out."

  • "We were seated promptly, met by our waiter, brought our own wine/he opened & poured. Dinner was served at an approp. time; however, my husband's primerib was way overcooked and our waiter said it would be a few minutes to bring a new order-15 minutes later it arrived & was not as good a cut-but med.rare. I also shared (in writing) with this hostess that seated us we were celebrating my husband's 70th Birthday and there was no acknowledgment from our wait staff either- a little disappointing. Being Father's Day and all, I understood. Please note, we drive all the way from N.Natomas, by the airport to come to your restaurant-so it is the little things that keep us coming back beside the great food. Thank you, Debra Kapitan"
