With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes.   • "Been here several times and have yet to be disappointed in the ambiance, servers or the fabulous food! Great service this last visit from Chris (Gibran the time before) who helped us celebrate my mother's retirement. Playful banter, knowledgeable about the food..obviously enjoys his workplace and passes that on to his guests. Did I mention thoughtful? Took care of my high maintenance mother in law like a pro! Had her in stitches and took the rest of us along for the ride- 2 hour meal of great food and great wine! Shared appetizers around, as well as wine. Every entree was different around the table, nothing repeated, and each was met with raves. Our absolute favorite place to get together for celebrations. Thanks for the lovely time!"

  • "We hadn't been there in a while, and now wonder if they've changed ownership. The food wasn't as good, it was slow coming out, and we got a 2/1 brunch deal. They never used to offer those. Not very busy on a Sat either. Sad."

  • "Several months ago, my wife and I visited Paul Martin's. We had been there several times before. This particular time, both our steaks were tough as leather. The waiter ended up replacing our steaks. They too were tough. Our waiter apologized profusely and explain that the restaurant had recently changed meat suppliers. He went on to comp our meals. We were pressed for time and did not order another meal. We received a gift card for the restaurant lately and decided to give it another try. My steak this time was very good, no complaints. I hope they either reverted to the previous meat supplier or at least dropped the one that provided all the tough meat."

  • "Always one of our favorites and food is over the top fabulous - we wish you would have left the chicken dish as it was with the half chicken and bones, it had more flavor.....but is still wonderful.....and the dimming of the lights even more between the hour of 7-8pm made it difficult to see our dinner-not necessary as it was already pretty dark - oh and lets not forget the service which is always the best....thanks "

  • "We've been many times and this was the best ever. The plank salmon was outstanding, much better than in the past. PM's went from a 6.5 to an 8 last Monday night. Hopefully it can stay there. Many of the entre's eaten in the past have been 6.5-7 including the plank salmon. If everything was elevated just slightly this place would be a real hit."

  • "This is probably the 5th or 6th time we have eaten at Paul Martins. One of the things other than the food, the service, and the ambiance that i like is the fact that since I am on their mailing list they send me all the specials and menu changes they are running. Currently they are doing a Monday night wine dinner for 49 dollars for TWO!. You get to select a bottle of wine for a select group of appx 20 bottles. It was great, we went with another couple and they could not believe the value for the high quality food, and service. It's a steal - GO."

It's not designed for kids, but we take our toddler, who knows how to behave well in a restaurant, and they accommodate with high-chairs and kid friendly food when asked (a kid menu is not provided)."

  • "We were well served, well fed, and well satisfied. The shared seafood appetizer plate, medium sized, got our threesome off to a good start. The opportunity to taste a couple of the wines before ordering left us with a difficult choice between two very nice Sauvignon Blancs. The mushroom cream soup and simple green salad were both excellent. The linguini with shrimp, with flavors never before encountered in a pasta dish, and the polenta, prepared uniquely (ask the waiter to describe the process) far surpassed our expectations. The only instance of less than perfection was the black cod which did not reach the level that such a delicacy should have. But we'll be sure to return when we have another occasion to celebrate."

  • "Went to Paul Martin's for a birthday. It was a nice place, but for me personally left me wanting more. My starter mixed green salad was a disappointment. The mixed greens were very good, but it was just that, mixed greens and a light tossing of oil. It was advertised as having a champagne vinaigrette, but that seemed to not be the case. I had to ask for another dressing to finish it. I had read on the website that you needed to order from the Paul Martin tasting menu aka the happy hour menu. Unfortunately you had to be sitting in the bar to receive those items. I ordered the burger and fries and it was good not great. We did order dessert and the ice cream was fantastic! Overall was a good experience but I think could have been better."

  • "We love this place. The food, service and attention to detail is always top-notch. My husband took our daughter here for their "date" night(daddy/daughter dance) and she could not stop talking about it! She requested that we go here for her 6th birthday dinner. It is upscale, but worth every penny spent. Try the Brick Chicken and the Blackened steak, with the Chimichuuri (sp?) sauce...mmmmmm yummy! I love the 3 Mushroom burger too. Gotta check this one out!"

  • "We had a wonderful evening at Paul Martin's American Grill despite a few snags. Our waiter was great but it was apparent that he was overloaded with tables. He never complained to us but we watched him! Finally someone stepped in to help and that was perfect. A local friend recommended the burger so I ordered it and absolutely loved it. My husband and another friend ordered the skirt steak and they thought it was good but the presentation could have been better for the price. The atmosphere is upbeat and we were seated after only waiting a few minutes. The food is fresh and most flavorful."

  • "great urban modern feel. Large but felt intimate. Plenty of room to move but feel private. Noise level good for conversation. Menu was not overbearing and tasty sounding combinations. I had Calamari and was delicious. Wide variety of wines and drinks. Service was attentive without being intrusive or interrupting conversation. ( a pet peeve - to have conversation interrupted to ask if everything is alright - I will say if not!)."

  • "First time at Paul Martin's was an impromptu Friday date night. I made reservations via Open Table in the car on the way to the restaurant and skipped ahead what would otherwise have been a 45 minute wait. Wine list offered a nice range of options to complement the food. The Brick Chicken and the Kale Caesar were both fantastic, although the spinach dip left something to be desired. I didn't really understand the choice to put three strips of steamed spinach in a ramekin and then fill the spaces with Alfredo, but the flavor was good. Four stars only because of the awkward appetizer. I'll definitely come back."

  • "Arrived early and enjoyed HH on the patio. Wonderful! For our party of 8 they sat us at a large round table which I LOVE, unfortunately, the restaurant is SO LOUD that you can't even hear the person right next to you talking. There were very mixed reviews on the food. I had the pork chop which I thought was great, and another person had a seafood pasta which was really good also. Not so great reviews on the short ribs, tacos, and brick chicken. It was a fun splurge for my birthday, but it was a little over-priced in my opinion, and the difficulty of conversation was also a bummer. I don't think I would make reservations for a large group here again, but I would return for Happy Hour and try to get one of the great tables on the patio."

Our server(sorry I don't recall his name) was attentive and prompt with orders, delivery, water refills, etc. While a little pricey, I would recommend Paul Martins again."

  • "Visiting Roseville from San Francisco, I selected this place for Sunday brunch and was very pleased by the initial welcome, the service, and the food. My dining partner raved about her omelet and I was thoroughly satisfied by my polenta and vegetables entree. It may be in the middle of an office park in Roseville but everything about this establishment is big city (once inside, you could be anywhere) and first class. Very nice decor as well. Highly recommended."

  • "My best friend and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Paul Martin's last Friday evening. The hostess greeted us right away and our reserved table was ready. Don, the manager on duty escorted us to our table and our amazing server Caitlin was ready for us! She was very friendly, informative and accommodating. We will definitely be back......and request Caitlin's section. The meal was delicious and the ice cream was yummy!"

  • "Went here for dinner on a Friday night with a friend. I thought the rib eye was the best I've ever had, even Cattlemen's. I had the Polenta. It was terrific. It was served as two rectangles that were just the right consistency (not in a puddle and not hard and dry) just firm enough to keep their shape, delicately flavored and seasoned and perfectly complemented by the accompanying diced tomato salsa. The waitstaff was very attentive (maybe it helps that we were sitting by the station so that might be a recommendation in choosing seating!) but I'm sure they would be great anyway. We were checked on just about the right amount. The noise level was quite active and a little louder than we'd like but we could still carry a conversation."

  • "We both had yummy fish dishes--I had the baby kale Caesar salad--sounds creepy but it's a very good Caesar salad with white anchovies. I also had the plank salmon with a mustard sauce and bacon. I'm good with bacon on anything, and this was a tasty combo. My spouse had Cajun seared ahi that was also good. They still for some reason undercook their green, yellow or wax beans. The accompaniment to the tuna was yellow and wax beans with a tomato relish. We had a run-in once before complaining the green beans were undercooked--as in crunchy from the garden. If I wanted raw, I would order it that way. That time the waiter told us they cook the beans that way on purpose. But other than the bean issue, everything was delicious."
