A word from Paul Martin's American Grill - Irvine
Our founders, Brian Bennett and Paul Fleming, had a vision for a restaurant they wished was in their neighborhood — a place that serves you dishes made from scratch with the highest quality ingredients prepared simply and well, all offered at accessible prices. Embracing this concept and carrying these values into the restaurant kitchen, Paul Martin's American Grill was born.

Today our motto remains "Seasonal & Delicious." On our menu you will find the best seafood from sustainable fisheries, free-range and natural meats and poultry, artisan cheeses and cured meats. Alongside our food, we serve artisanal cocktails made with house-infused spirits, craft beers and a deep selection of over 100 wines, most of which are offered by the glass.

We encourage you to peruse our rich and varied menus, which are designed to foster sampling and sharing. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin’s.

Diner Reviews
  • "This was the first time we went to this restaurant. We went on a Saturday night around 830pm and got right in. Service was slow but it seemed our waiter was very busy. We notice 3 waiter(s) standing around not doing much while our waiter ran around serving everyone. The food was OK and it wasnt quite my taste. Ordered the tacos and it had a tiny bit of fish and a lot of corn type mix with it. I would not go back again although everyone should give it a try."

  • "We had the wine dinner special which is normally offered on Monday evenings. They had a special for the 4th of July weekend and we took advantage of it. It's an incredible deal on a place which I think is already fairly priced. As usual, their menu had plenty of desirable options and they do a great job in disclosing potential problems for those with allergies or sensitivities."

  • "Phone manner was good when we called in to inform them that we'd be running late. When we arrived, our table was given away which is understandable. The manager was very accommodating and personally came to apologize for the long wait and comped 2 appetizers which were delicious. Unfortunately after the waitress got our order, we waited another 35-40 min for food to come. I had greater expectation for the food quality, but my order of black cod turned out salty and overpriced for what I was getting. It seems like everyone else's food choice in my table was just meh....I would give them higher rating because the staffs were friendly, but I had really hoped the food was better."

  • "We had such a delicious meal. The menu ws wonderful and clearly marked for gluten free options, which I needed. We were delighted to find that all the beef was grass fed and chicken was all free range. We were told that the menu changes seasonally. The chimichurri sauce on my steak was amazing. The staff was so attentive and enthusiastic. It was a terrific evening."

  • "Been here a number of times and it is consistetnly good. Food is cooked well and service is just right - not visiting too often, but just enough to keep an eye on things. Had a great salmon for lunch and it was cooked perfectly. You cannot go wrong from all that I have seen."

  • "Great steaks and wine list. Ambience is just right. Exceptional food at a reasonable price. The communal bar brings in an energetic crowd. The proximity to the theater nearby made it easy to dine and walk to the movies."

  • "We've been here several times and love it! This time was for my birthday. The only complaint I have was that the Banana Cream pie they sent home with me was terrible."

  • "we had skirt steak and salmon and it was perfection"

  • "Everyone seemed very nice, but they can't seem to get a prime rib right to save their life! I've gotten burgers at their El Segundo location in the past no problem there... If you can get hot fries out of that location, they are very good also. But Irvine I don't know... Maybe I just need to replace the entire kitchen staff."

  • "For only a $14 pre fixe brunch, we got a plate of fruit, beverage, honey biscuit and a brunch entree. Great price and great ambiance! I'm surprised it wasn't more crowded for a Saturday at 11:30am."

  • "This was my 3rd time here and it was great again. My husband and I went before a show at Verizon Amphitheater and had 5:15 reservations. This timing was perfect to get us out to the show. We were greeted immediately and seated in a great big booth. Our server Justin, was there right away with specials, drink orders, wine suggestions, etc. I had the hoisin pork chop and my husband had the ribeye. We started with the jumbo prawn cocktail and shared the homemade ice cream for dessert. Everything was prepared so fresh and delicious! We will definitely return again. I also had one of the best Grey goose dirty martinis ever! I am afraid I do judge a place by this drink :) Theirs was the perfect mix and 3 olives, which I love!"

  • "Paul martins irvine has as close to no ambiance as can be. Parties for tens of people set in the middle of booths. Just an expensive dennys"

  • "My family and I met here for an early Father's Day dinner. We were greeted and seated within 5-10 minutes. The menu is seasonal and they promote farm fresh food. Three of us ordered the short ribs and they were delicious! My husband ordered the French dip and he loved it too. My mother-in-law started with the mushroom soup and she said it was the best she ever eaten. They didn't have a children's menu but had options for $7. My daughter chose the cheeseburger sliders and she ate them all! We ordered the spinach dip which was delicious and different from what you typically get. The calamari was light and the dipping sauces were absolutely divine. They were all very professional and the wine list is diverse and tasty. This place is a gem!"

  • "The fish dishes are always outstanding. I had a baby kale Caesar salad that was out of this world. The artisan drinks are always creative and delicious and the wine list is extensive enough to have variety but is not overwhelming. Great service and a relaxed elegant atmosphere."

  • "What a wonderful experience - food - service - all the best of the best. You will enjoy your meal here!"

  • "Very good service from Cesar. Excellent food for the most part. My companion thought the salad dressing overpowered the grilled salmon'which was excellent. I had the French dip and liked it. Overall very good!"

  • "Great service, food very well prepared and flavorful, hot and quickly served . Started off with the calamari, had the grilled salmon tacos, requested corn tortillas rather than the flour they come with and the tacos were delicious, couldn't eat all three. The booths are comfortable but they sit low so you feel you need a booster seat, next time I'll ask for a regular table."

  • "We weren't sure what to expect, and pleasantly surprised. Tasty drinks, generous happy hour, even on Saturday. Food was yummy and service and ambiance were pleasant. Loud enough to be fun, but not so loud we couldn't talk, even though we were near the bar."

  • "The restaurant is fantastic! The manager & servers were great! However, it could be better if the beer selection was better and if the dining areas were separated. Large groups and children kill any sense of a romantic dinner (or lunch)."

  • "Paul Martins has the most friendly, accommodating staff, and the food is wonderful, drinks are on point.. consistently FANTASTIC!"

  • "Luckily the food can stand on it's own because the service is really too young and spotty for a place that charges this much for their entrees. Needed to constantly ask for water fill up and bread refills. Hopefully it was just an off night. Fish and pork chops were delicious. Calamari appetizer very light and well prepared. "

  • "Passing through Irvine and wanting a decent dining experience with my wife. We had never heard of it before. We quickly discovered that Paul Martin's was a great dining experience. From drinks to desserts and everything in between including great service it was just what we are looking for."

  • "Sad to see this place go downhill. Perhaps expansion is the reason, but just not as good as it used to be. There are other, better options in the center."

  • "I've been here on multiple occasions varying from lunch with friends to drinks with colleagues. It can accommodate large groups or even a small intimate dinner with ease. Of course, the food is amazing as well. I've mostly enjoyed their fish tacos, but their burger is also a favorite. They are able to satisfy any and all picky eaters (from my experiences). "

  • "Dinner was fantastic. Our server, Jordan, was helpful, knowledgeable, funny, and timely. The food was terrific, flank steak and sweet potatoes were to die for. We sat outside; the heat lamps kept us comfortable. All was terrific."

  • "Food was great. The calamari appetizer was delicious, we ordered seconds. Service was exceptional. Ambiance was cozy. Bar area was loud and a bit rowdy but that was to be expected. I had my parents and children with me so asked to be moved to a quieter spot and the management immediately obliged. Will definitely come back."

  • "Your restaurant has so much potential but it all starts with people and I felt like we were inconveniencing the waiter. As time went on he became more friendly but not what I expected. The manager came over who was great and we told him we were celebrating Mothers Day and we told him we were waiting on desserts. He walked away, 15 minutes later he asked how things were going and I told him we hadn't gotten our desserts and he went to get them right away. I'm thinking it was just an off night because my brother recommended the place and I didn't get that feeling that we were overall welcomed."

  • "The food was delicious! We sat outside which was very nice. What a bargin - Drink, fruit, muffin and Entree - I got the Eggs Benedict which was yummy for $14. Plus for Mother's Day they gave you a gift card for another brunch. I am looking forward to using it in the near future. I ordered a peach bellini and it wasn't what I expected. The waiter was right there to replace it with another drink. I asked for more Hollandaise sauce and the waiter brought it to me immediately. We really enjoyed our brunch!! Great Service and very good food"

  • "You would think the one day a restaurant would really try to get it right would be Mother's Day. Not in the case of Paul Martin's. You blew it!!! The food took forever and when it finally did arrive was wrong. How hard is it to make a breakfast and have it come the way you ordered it? Really? The search party is still looking for the bacon! Thanks for getting our Mother's Day off to a really horrible start. No excuse will suffice. Shame on you for not being prepared. "

  • "I truly enjoy Paul Martins. The food is great, the service is wonderful, and I can actually hear what my party is saying. I would say that if you are in a hurry, this is not the place for you. Not that the service is slow, by any means, it just the kind of place you don't rush through. I definitely will be visiting this location again. "

  • "We celebrated Mother's Day at Paul Martins. We all ordered the Sunday night prime rib special. It included a choice of kale Caesar salad or mixed greens, with prime rib & mashed potatoes, and a choice of home made ice cream. For the price, it was a great meal."

  • "We had reservations on a Monday night. Their Monday Night "deal" was 2 entrees (any entree on the menu), 2 salads, a a bottle of wine from a selected list for $49. Our wine was listed at $47! Our waitress ran our bill with and without the "deal" - $133 without and $59 with - we thought the deal was $49 per person - and it would have been a great deal even at that. The way it actually worked for us was unbelievable - we'll certainly be back."

  • "Made a reservation via OpenTable, showed up on time with my party, and then waited 20 minutes to be seated. Would have been no different than just walking in. Do they know what a reservation is? Paul Martin's has the look and feel of an upper-middle end or lower-high end restaurant. They've built the image of a place you'd get a great dining experience, but they come up short on execution. The quality of the food and service are nothing special. They're in a prime location and will likely stay busy because of it. But, if they were off the beaten path a bit, it is unlikely people would go out of their way to visit."

  • "We love Paul Martin's! The food is outstanding and the wait staff is friendly and helpful. This past visit gave new meaning to "wait" staff, though. It was a wait to get our drinks; it was a wait to place our order. The food arrived one full hour after we arrived in the restaurant. The food was outstanding as usual and our wait-person was friendly and personable (great wine recommendation), but all in all it was a 2-1/2 hour meal. Seems long. We'll go back, though. The food and the service are well worth the trip."
