A word from Paul Martin's American Grill - Irvine
Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Asked for booth and they did seat us in one. Waiter was attentive but bit overly. Food and wine were good. Spinach dip needed spinach cut, made it difficult and messy. Will be back."

  • "Our server was spectacular but the food was mediocre. High points: our server, bartender, large comfortable booths, delicious ice cream, great croutons, flat iron steak. Low points: butternut squash soup off the menu, undercooked then burned vegetables, ribeye steak blackened after requesting it be pan seared without blackening, jidori chicken skin soggy not crispy as described. Overall, not on par with what I'm used to at Paul Martins."

  • "We love that we can get the $49 dinner on Monday nights. The food is very good!"

  • "First came our drink orders, I had the signature lemonade which was bland and flavorless, won't waste money on that. Next were the buscuits, again nothing to write home about and could have definitely gone with out. Fresh but bland and heavy. Out next was the Calamari which was cooked to perfection, nice crisp, not chewy in the least and melted in your mouth. The dipping sauces were also a perfect match. For the entiree the server HIGHLY recommended the eggs Benedict, likening herself to an eggs Benedict conosour, she insisted these were the best anywhere. She sold then so well I would have to be stupid to not try them...and enter disappointment, sauce was lacking so I didn't really get to enjoy any of that."

  • "Hopping spot for Happy Hour but limited seating which makes it tough if you order any apps. The best deal is the burger and beer but hard to eat it standing up."

  • "Great price for the value! Food was healthy and fresh. Loved the scones and egg white veggie omelet. My husband loved the green tomatillo salsa. That was his highlight. A child's brunch menu would make me even happier. Not that difficult to whip up some mini pancakes or waffles or a scrambled egg. And the lemonosa was yummy too! Will return with girlfriends."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner! The grilled Salem was awesome. The portions were perfect, not huge, but not too small!!"

  • "We went for a short dinner and had 6 mojitos between the two of us. The drinks were $10.00 each and 80% ice and 3 oz of beverage. As for the foood, we both had a great salad, one with steak and the other was a chicken ceaser and they were great. A great place to dine but watch out for the drinks !!"

  • "We enjoyed the Monday night $49 dinner for two. However,I ordered the linguine prawn pasta and both pasta and the prawn were over cooked. And we told our waitress that we were there to celebrate our friend's birthday and asked her if there was anything special she could do. Kindly she did bring the slice of chocolate but we were charged for it. Don't the restaurants normally offer a free slice of cake as a nice gesture? We were just a bit disappointed about that. Other than that, the restaurant has a wonderful ambiance."

  • "Paul Martin's Monday NIght Wine Dinner is an incredible deal! It is well worth going out on a work night for dinner when you get a great bottle of wine, two amazing entrees, your choice of soup or salad all for $49.00. My husband and I have been here for Happy Hour (which is also great - 7 days a week) as well as the Monday Night Wine Dinner and it never disappoints. Food is excellent, service is spot on, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. We will be back :-)"

  • "Paul Martins has a great menu, cocktails are amazing, wine list has great variety, and everyone is so friendly. We enjoyed the wine dinner for 2 and I challenge anyone to find a better value at a restaurant the is on the same level as Paul Martins! Everything we have tried has been wonderful!"

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to try Paul Martin's for the first time as we had heard wonderful things. We were 100% disappointed. It took the server far too long to greet us, and even longer to actually get the drinks we had ordered. We started with the calamari which was soggy and not good at all. As the main course came out, the brought my boyfriend's dish first along with my side of broccolini. About 7 minutes later my salmon arrived, which was very oily and I couldn't even finish it. My boyfriend's flank steak was oily as well. We were very very disappointed and don't for see us returning."

  • "This is a great restaurant at the Irvine Spectrum. When you walk in, it smells fantastic! However, while the restaurant is located right in front, next to a valet parking stand, it can be hard to locate even if you are somewhat familiar with the Spectrum. My friend got lost...The server offered me ice tea and bread while I waited, getting colder and colder as the servers continually opened the doors to an outdoor seating area where the wind was wildly blowing. I know there is limited lunch seating, but the constant door opening made the table where I was sitting VERY uncomfortable. When my friend arrived, she asked to be moved, a request that was kindly granted. Our order was taken and the food arrived quickly. Grilled salmon was DELICIOUS!"

  • "I love organic and healthy plus a big bar - Paul Martin's delivers on both: all organic, wild caught, etc. plus lots of seating at and around the bar. Big comfy booths, high top community tables and seats at the bar. Dinner - enjoyed the grilled salmon with quinoa; came back for lunch and had the polenta with veggies and a creamy tomato drizzle and steak salad. The Gruet champagne was a nice treat - reasonably priced by the glass or bottle."

  • "Professional, high-quality environment that was quiet enough to enjoy good conversation around the table. The service was very good, although twice we selected wines only to find out they were out of stock. The waiter handled it very well, giving us alternatives to taste and giving us a discount on the final selection (which was significantly higher than our original selection). Appetizer board of meats & cheeses worked great with cross-table conversation."

  • "Positives: close to valet parking, despite being in a shopping mall; feels like an independent venue; staff is friendly, well groomed, attentive; table clean; seats comfortable; cocktails good; food above average for fine dining; prices fair; dinner menu: good variety; salad greens stringing; dressing tasty; entree well prepared; Negatives: dessert menu: mediocre selection; dessert size miniscule; entree covered with the same greens used in salad -- detracted from entree; salad greens stringy; menu text too small for dark room. Summary: Restaurant is the sort of place where you go when you don't know what your guests like and you don't want to take any chances."

  • "This was the perfect place to take my guy for a romantic birthday dinner. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was friendly and on the ball. Our table was ready and actually ha a reserved sign on it when we arrived!! The table we sat at was a high round booth...perfect for sitting close and easy to talk without distractions. It was a really great dining experience!"

  • "I can always count on good food and service at a reasonable price -- when I bring newbies along, they are always impressed! When I go with my girlfriends, we like to sit and talk for a while and they never make us feel rushed."

  • "The restaurant was busy and we were there early evening midweek, and had a great time celebrating my sister's B-day. This was my first time and was very impressed from the moment I walked in. I had the skirt steak it was delicious everyone else had the salmon which was tasty and portion sizes were good. They have a happy hour with many drink and food specials. The staff was top notch, very friendly and helpful."

  • "Excellent spot for a business lunch. Manageable array of farm-to-table choices. Our table had an Asian salad, steak salad and two orders of the mesquite grilled salmon. Portions were large. Fine presentation. High quality ingredients. Excellent service, including the bussing staff which kept a watchful eye for empty water and iced tea glasses. The restaurant is a bit noisy when full. We had a later business lunch -- 12:30 -- and by 1:00 the place with quieter, for better conversation."

  • "Had reservation, arrived at restaurant at reserved time, checked in and was told table was not ready, waited 15 minutes...then was told table was not ready as they were waitng for people to get off their seats? Waited for another 15 minutes.. Table was still not ready, checked to see what seemed to be the problem... We'll anyway to the story short.. We finally get seated.. And we finished dinner in 45 minutes... Almost less than the wait time! Didn't apologize nor acknowledge that we were there to celebrat a birthday ... Anyway will not go back!"

  • "Took my friend here for his birthday expecting good food and great service as I had been here for lunch. Instead while the food was great, it took forever for the waiter to take our order and he got our drinks wrong. This probably could have been avoided had he taken some time away from flirting with the group of girls next to us. When dessert was brought it was also wrong. We politely told the runner about the mistake and he gave us a dirty look before bringing us a new one 15 minutes later. I would certainly eat here again but seriously, if you're going to ignore a table, try not to be so obvious next time."

  • "My girlfriend and I had a 7:15pm reservation on a Thursday evening. We were seated about 10 minutes afterwards. I was a bit surprised by that, but I was told by the attendant that it took extra time to get a booth ready in the restaurant (non bar area). I was offered seating in the bar area, but did not think it was appropriate because we were celebrating a special occasion. My girlfriend ordered the Asian Chopped Salad and she loved it. I had the Wild mushroom soup, and the Cedar Plank Salmon. They were both excellent. We shared the Artichoke appetizer which we would both highly recommend. A great experience overall and kudos to the great food and the attentive wait staff at Paul Martins!"

  • "I had the french dip and the meat (which on the menu said it was prime rib) was not tender and very fatty and chewy and dry. I do not recommend it."

  • "Our first time here was on Sunday evening when the place was about half full. All negative comments about noise and poor service were without foundatiion on what I gather is a relatively quiet night. Our dinners (planked salmon and the Sunday $25 prime rib dinner) were superb! Check was quite reasonable. Bar out of the advertised German non-alcoholic beer, Omar, our excellent waiter, bought me a cappacino in consolation. We'll be back."

  • "Randomly selected Paul Martin's American Grill in Irvine. Our server Brandon is one of the finest in the business. Brandon guided us through the menu with ease, describing every detail of the items with finesse. What I enjoyed most was his ability to help us select our menu choices with his knowledge of the food while at the same time never negatively persuading one way or the other. Brandon amused me with sharing his favorites while supporting other choices in a positive manner. The food was well prepared but the service and attentive detail of our server Brandon reached well beyond our expectations. This restaurant and server Brandon are a must if you are looking for a fabulous dining experience!"

  • "My partner and I wanted to celebrate this valentines day with a special dining experience. With our busy lives every moment counts. Saw this restaurant on open table. More good reviews than bad. Pics and menu looked good. Reservation time was open per our desire. We were 15 mins late but reservation was still held. Server was very helpful. Felt we were never pressed to order quickly or did we have long to wait once we were ready to order. Only complaint. I order a beer they sold out of. Server came back to inform me of this but was it ready with the menu so I could make a selection. Felt she should have had that in hand. Great atomosphere. Friendly staff."

  • "I chose this place after researching reviews as where I wanted to take my date for Valentines. The atmosphere was romantic (if not a little too loud) and the service was impeccable. The food, however, came from a paltry menu with few choices. The food I and my date received was excellent, do not get me wrong, however I did feel that for an American Grill, their menu was not representative. I also understood the food to be ethically made; the waiter at our table made a point of telling us that. Though that may be true and I respect the restaurants attitude in this regard, the food was on the expensive side. I would say that I would recommend this location to a friend, but with qualifications. Good for groups, not really for dates."
