Diner Reviews
  • "Pappas continues to be a favorite dining destination for me and my husband. I always order the famous crab cake. If you like Riesling, order the Blue Nun. It is so smooth and delicious. If you are fine with cafeteria style seating, then the downstairs dining room is okay. If you prefer to sit in a more traditional restaurant setting, then ask to be seated upstairs. It also is a bit quieter upstairs. I have a friend coming from out of town soon and I plan to bring her to Pappas."

  • "Whenever my sister visits from out of town, we are going to Pappas! Crabcakes were excellent, and Jennifer, our server was great. We were seated right away when we arrived, so no waiting. We were also able to linger a bit to relax and talk after dinner, without feeling like we were being rushed out. Thank you - we will definitely be back again!"

  • "Ok, so the 3 of us had crabcakes. They were the best darned crabcakes I've ever eaten in my entire life. I'll never be able to eat a lesser crabcake now! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had asked to be seated quicky in my online reservation, and we were seated immediately (THANKS!!!). Service was top notch and super friendly. I couldn't have asked for a bettter experience for myself, my brother and elderly (88 years) Aunt!! She had a cold Blue Moon and a crab cake and was a happy camper! Blessings!! Keep up the stellar work."

  • "Have heard about Pappas for years but finally took the plunge. PACKED on a Saturday night! Cruised past 20 plus people waiting for tables as we used OPEN TABLE! Tables are tightly packed into this throwback space when restaurants hosted families for dinners, complete with pickled cucumbers and breadsticks on the table. Food is SO FRESH! Of course we had the amazing crabcakes, stuffed shrimp and the best filet in town---hands down---tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We had no room but the dessert menu looked luscious. Looking forward to a return visit and stopping at the adjacent market for pit beef! Service is BEYOND on point---you are taken care by a family of professionals."

  • "These are the best crab cakes. Eight ounces of crab ... just enough binder to hold the cake together. These are the BEST!!"

  • "My husband and I always get the crab cake dinner and we like it very much. Our guest had a salmon dish and like it very much also."

  • "Whole experience would have been perfect except for two things. We assumed a twice baked potato was still in the skin but it wasn't and was smaller than you would expect. However the crab cakes were huge and more than made up for it. The little cucumber salad they put on your table for starters is excellent as were the rolls. Ate rolls , crackers and cucumber til food came which didn't take long . Service was great. Only one other complaint and it just wasn't a huge deal . Crab ball starters said 6 crab balls but they only brought 5. Could have mentioned it but it seemed nit picky. They were HUGE. No filler and fried just right. Waitress was attentive without smothering and the whole experience was great."

  • "Pappas is still known and loved for their crab cakes. I have only had the surf and turf (creature of habit) but I love it! The only draw back is that for the price of the meal, they could provide fresh vegetables. The broccoli I had was frozen and not very appealing."

  • "The crab cakes and orange roughy were fantastic. We drove an hour and a half to get there and the crab cakes were definitely worth the drive. I had the seafood platter. Next time I will get the crab cakes and roughy. The other items were ok."

  • "don't know which is better the $5 martini's or the huge lump meat crab cakes -- unpretentious and delicious -- husband had a surf and turf and thought the steak was as good as the crab cake -- friendly and helpful wait staff and they seated us immediately"

  • "We have been going to Pappas for many years. The food is excellent. We have used their carry-out window and find the food quality the same as when dining in. I would recommend this restaurant. When they are busy, the noise level is a little more than I'm comfortable with."

  • "This place was recommended by another fellow Maryland who enjoys critiquing MD crabcakes. I will say this makes the list as one to try in our state, but really all of our food was good. And the sangria? Not sure what they use to give it that extra kick!, but it was awesome! Love that the table appetizer was pickled cucumbers. This place was very loud, but you could tell it was a well liked local staple. The server was very attentive. I will be going back!"

  • "Crabcakes in Baltimore are an obsession and you can't get better crabcakes than Pappas! I had friends in from Texas who wanted some Mayland seafood, so I brought them to Pappas and they went home full of the best crabcakes, crab soup and shrimp fettuccine alfredo in town."
    Dined on 3/10/2014
  • "The crab cakes are nicely done - lots of lump crab meat though light on seasoning - and they are broiled unless you ask for them fried. Italian dishes are all good. A nice neighborhood restaurant in the Baltimore style."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "The food was very good. The setting reminds me of an Italian Restaurant, and you could easily celebrate your birthday or have a dinner party there. Our waitress was attentive. I will visit again!"

  • "No matter how many times I dine at Pappas, their crab cakes never disappoint me. They make the best and most consistent crab cakes in Baltimore. If you want something other then their award winning crab cakes, Pappas offers a full menu of delicious items. You can never go wrong eating at the Pappas restaurant."

  • "Pappas is always busy, but the service, quality of the food remain consistently outstanding. It is a real pleasure to dine there. We plan on returning."

  • "I go just for the crab cakes. They are always the very best around. I thought the sides were uninspired - the fries and asparagus not impressive. The wait staff was great!"
    Dined on 2/23/2014
  • "The restaurant was very crowded. We barely saw our waitress. Some tables got bread, some didn't, ours didn't. When the dinner came several sides were wrong. My husband and neice both ordered salads which were brought after they were served their dinner. I have eaten here several times for lunch and it was very good. I guess we caught them on a bad night."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Please use different bread. Your bread seems like burger buns heated in the microwave. Your baked potatoes was hard and not cooked well. The waitress was rushing us. Filled the glass to the rim to the point that our water was flowing on the table. The crab cakes are perfect."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "We went to Pappas to try their crabcake. It was large, 8 oz., and filled with large lumps of backfin crabmeat and a reasonable amount of filler. However, the crab meat was definitely not from Maryland blues. First, it isn't the season and second, the meat didn't have the sweetness of the Maryland crab. I asked the waitress if they used Maryland crab during the summer, thinking I would come back then. I was informed they get their crab meat from Indonesia year round. This practice has the advantage of providing a consistent crabcake year round, but it's not what I'm looking for. So my search for the perfect crab cake continues."

  • "Friendly, competent service. Seated us on time even though there was a huge Valentine's Day crowd. Wait staff and hostess were very friendly and provided quick service. Famous crab cake was delicious."

  • "We went on valentine's day with a limited menu, but everything we ordered was really good. We will be returning to experience the full menu of seafood. They hostess and servers were all very pleasant. Good experience we would recommend to others!"

  • "On Valentine's Day we had an absolutely wonderful meal at Pappas! We made reservations, were seated right in front of the cozy fireplace. It was lovely. I had a huge yummy crabcake, my hubby had "fork tender" steak that was out of this world. I never thought to get a steak there as I think of it generally as a seafood restaurant. But the steak is excellant. Perfectly done too! Our waiter was very observant and kept the glasses filled! Their signature sangrias are outstanding!! For dessert we tried their strawberry cheesecake with chocolate mousse which was outstanding! I can always count on leaving the table happy when I go there. And when the waiter brought the check, he also delived a beautiful long stemmed red rose. It just made my day!"

  • "This old school restaurant has some of the best crabcakes you will ever eat. They have re-modeled but kept the cozy booths, real cloth table cloths and napkins. Perhaps I should say they've spruced up. The prices are reasonable and the service is always good. They have an older crowd and seem to be busy from lunch through dinner."
    Dined on 2/12/2014
  • "I would normally give the food at Pappas a 5-star review, but on this particular night it was just so-so...crabcakes didn't have much flavor, green beans were undercooked, mashed potatoes were so-so, also. Dinner rolls that were served with the dinner looked exactly like un-sliced hamburger rolls! I've eaten at Pappas a lot, so this was not up to their usual standards. They were extremely busy, so maybe this had something to do with the food not being the best. On the plus side, the service was great, the waitess was very accommodating and the atmosphere in the restaurant overall was pleasant. I'll always come back to Pappas, but I do hope I caught them on a bad day and that they maintain their high standards."
