Palomino - IndianapolisGreat post-perforamnce dinner.Palomino was a great location, close to Hilbert Theater, for dinner after a wonderful ISO concert. We had drinks in the bar, where there was a good view of the street activity and a noise level which easily allowed conversation. The Erath pinot noir was excellent. The lamb shank was meaty and satisfying; other entrees were the salmon and chicken, which were attractively presented in adequate amount. We were ushered right to our internet pre-reserved seats and the addition of yet another diner posed no problems. The waiter was perhaps a little overbearing but his humor and attention to details made this a minor distraction. He knew the menu well and was quick to suggest twists on several meals to enhance them, which several of our group delightedly ordered. My seafood dish was excellent and had just the right amount of food. The lamb dishes were not only perfectly cooked but the portion looked like something out of the Flintstones. There are few purely vegetarian dishes. The service is EXCELLENT, not only efficient , delivering food promptly and immediately after preparation, but also very welcoming and genuinely friendly. If "energetic" noise level does not appeal, try to get to the restaurant early, when not so crowded. This restaurant is an ideal location for pre-concert, pre-theatre, pre-game date. The waiters are sensitive and accommodating to your schedule. Next time I will ask what sauces contain so that I can request them on the side if I prefer the dish to be less rich and caloric! Spinach and side pasta very good. Excellent Pecan-crusted Cod. The fish retained good texture and flavor; shows that a basic fish prepared properly becomes very good fish. The chef is smart enough to know that a "crusting" does not just mean a token coating of nut dust; it means significant application of quality crushed pecans in this case. Service which started well slowed a bit when a neighboring table of at least eight gentlemen apparently asked the server to describe the entire menu. Wine list good. Atmosphere very good. I researched the menu ahead of time and had heard many raves about the roasted garlic appetizer from friends. We went on a weeknight so the dining room was quiet and relaxing. We had a great waiter that helped my mom with the perfect wine selection and kept the meal going at our pace. We had the garlic appetizer and for entrees the lamb & the grilled prawns with mushroom risotto. Everything was amazing! The risotto was flavorful and comforting and the lamb my sister ordered was well-cooked and delicious. The hostess was very cordial and made sure to update us periodoically when our table would be ready - we probably waited for 15 minutes. So from the beginning the staff was friendly and accomodating. The food was great and not your typical Caesar salad and some sort of meat with grilled veggies and mash. I had the maple chicken salad and it was amazing - unique and different flavors complimenting each other so tastefully! The rest of my group had plates that they all really enjoyed also. For dessert we shared the donuts with nutella - sounds good but not the best. Overall we loved it. My crabmeat crepes were delicious, with lots of crabmeat. A friend loved his favorite asiago-crusted tilapia, and my son said the prime rib with eggs was excellent and perfectly cooked. We split the donuts for dessert; some cinnamon sugar for them instead of mascarpone and nutella would be a good addition.
