Diner Reviews
  • "Thoroughly enjoined the entire evening. The food, service and atmosphere was outstanding."

  • "My boyfriend and I ate here last Saturday night. I had mixed feelings when we first arrived because the hostess was a tad rude inside but the outside host was super nice. We chose to eat outside because the weather was perfect but had to endure one of the worst one - man - bands I've ever come across. Our server seemed a bit stressed at first (had too many tables) but she got caught up and was overall a pretty good server. We started with the egg rolls which my boyfriend loved but I thought were too heavy and filling for an appetizer. We LOVED everything we had for dinner. I had the salmon, he had the fettuccine with shrimp, and we also shared some onion rings. I would definitely go back again."

  • "Great food and large portions size. Very accomodating staff. Calamari was amazing appetizer for two."

  • "The young hostess with long brown hair sat at the worst table in the restaurant, a high traffic area by a server station and kitchen. We requested a new table. There were 3 available in a quieter area of the restaurant. The hostess said that those tables were for people who has reservations. I said that I had reservations too. She just smiled, didn't know what to say, but refused to move us. What, really?! Have you ever heard of making the customer happy? We walked out the door and had a delicious dinner outside, at a table that didn't need a reservation. Also found it interesting that the manager asked us a closed ended question of how our food was. The food was great but left us no opportunity to tell her about the hostess."

  • "Had a business dinner with two colleagues. Everyone had a seafood dish and all of them were prepared properly and tested good. The ambience outside by the water was a plus. Overall a nice experience."

  • "I have not one good thing to say about this restaurant. From the outside hostess who was so rude, to the waitress who looked lost the entire evening (and in fact left early), our whole meal was a distaster. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks, and another 40 to get our food. The excuses we were given did not ring true - our waitress said the bartender was really backed up, and that all the food is made fresh and that's why it was taking so long. I guess if they count fresh as made a week ago and microwaved. The manager was useless as well - she stayed in the corner of the bar on her phone for much of the evening."

  • "The food at Palmer's was excellent. The trout with capers was outstanding and everything else was very good. It had the best Restaurant Week Menu, and was the best restaurant we tried during restaurant. The ambiance with booths looking out on the water was lovely. Our server was outstanding and the sangria was good, too. We'll be back!"

  • "We tried Palmer's during Lexington Restaurant Week. Making reservations was easy and the atmosphere was relaxing--just what we needed. We felt we got a lot for the $25/person value and had so much food that we couldn't eat half of it. The food had a beautiful presentation and was good, though as someone who enjoys cooking gourmet meals, most of the dishes we sampled were not what we'd consider outstanding. The pretzel-coated trout was an exception; it was delicious. Overall, this was a good experience."

  • "Our waitress seemed busy because it was restaurant week, so maybe on a different night she would be more attentive. We had to ask for bread. It took a long time for us to get our food. Carrots with the beer cheese were old and dried out. Charred bread with the mussels had been sitting awhile so it was not hot or crisp, and had a taste of lighter fluid. The crab cakes were great as were the egg rolls. Please rethink the sidewinder potatoes, they need to go back to regular crispy fries. Usually the food and service are good. I think restaurant week dropped the grade of food and service we usually get here. Peach sangria was very good. The waitress was nice but was hard to get hold of."

  • "Had never been to Palmer's before, but was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful decor, very good food, and service. Most of the crowd was out on the large, noisy patio, but we sat inside to enjoy the quiet and the air conditioning. We had a great $25 prix fixe meal with lots of options and big portions. I'll go back, even if it's not restaurant week!"

  • "We were able to eat outside by the water and that, as well as our server were excellent! The food was great as well, but they reportedly sat a group of 16, then a group of 50 (yes, 50), so food and bill took FOREVER!!!!!!!!! We were worn out by the end of the evening...."

  • "Dean was our waiter and was attentive to our needs. The food was great. We had the shrimp & grits and the salmon. Wanting to try the steakhouse meatloaf soon. Definitely worth trying."

  • "Went here for restaurant week. Had a delicious meal. Happy hour with $4.50 glasses of wine, which were great. Will definitely be going back. Outdoor patio is wonderful!"

  • "Great food and even better service. Waitress was very skilled and manager was very engaged. She constantly canvasses table to table to ensure people were being served and satisfied. Our server anticipated our needs before we had them. I had the reef and beef and was delicious, wife had steak meatloaf and that was excellent. Also one of us had the catfish and the portion was ginormous (sic). Don't miss the hush puppies."

  • "Palmers Fresh Grill was wonderful dining experience. I chose the egg roll, Palmers House Salad, for my entree I chose Shrimp and Grits and the Ghiraradelli chocolate brownie (that went home in box). The portions were very generous. The grits were creamy and seasoned with and andouille sausage. The weather was perfect for the patio and the entertainment was on the mark. I will definitely return to Palmers."

  • "After a perfectly dreadful experience on Mother's Day, we felt it was only fair to give Palmer's another chance. With the Restaurant Week offer, it seemed like a good opportunity to see if Palmer's, for us, could redeem itself and it did. To begin with, we felt like we had good service, unlike our previous experience. Our waitress was friendly and stayed on top of things without intruding. I wouldn't call the food outstanding, but it was somewhat creative in presentation, well prepared and tasty. The 4 of us tried the bread pudding with salted caramel sauce for dessert--highlight of our meal! We felt the Mother's Day experience was a result of not being prepared for the crowd, so we're glad we tried again. We'll be back."

  • "The décor was nice, the tables and seating areas were clean. The food was very good, we had two of the specials and they were fresh, and tasty. One special had steamed broccoli, and the some of the broccoli was not as fresh as you would like it, but all in all, for the price it was a very good meal. Service was very good."

  • "I had the tuna medium rare. It was excellent. The portions were large. Everything was prepared well. We would definitely eat here again."

  • "My wife and I have dined with Palmer's on multiple occasions and we have never been disappointed. This past weekend, Brian was our server and went beyond the call of duty to make sure we had a great evening. The food is always delicious and the outdoor patio overlooking the water was perfect along with live music with Willy Eames that made it even better. Great job Palmer's!!"

  • "We ate inside at a window on the lake. It was a little to warm to eat outside. Loved looking at the wild glowers across the lake. And was entertained by a blue heron chasing the ducks."

  • "WOW! We were looking for someplace new to eat in Lexington and we found it. Great food, great atmosphere and great fun. You could make a meal out of their appetizers but save room for their entrees and make sure you check out their specials before ordering. Can't wait to go back."

  • "We had a cheery server, Melissa, and a nice view of the pond and outside bar area, while sitting inside in the cool air conditioning. We ordered a nice pinot noir, Meomi, and the egg roll appetizer (social hour has special prices). The egg rolls were delicious, and a great start to our dinner. Warm bread with olive oil and spice dip was brought to the table while we waited for our entrees. We had the pretzel crusted trout, the grilled trout, and the salmon grill for our entrees, and all were so delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert, we had the bread pudding between the 4 of us, and had more than we could handle - this too was superb."

  • "Noise level based on outdoor seating. Delicious piece of swordfish which came with two unannounced changes to the sides. Spouse had chicken piccata which was very good. Overall a very nice spot especially on a beautiful evening."

  • "made an online reservation and in the special comment section wrote I wanted on the patio. When I arrived I was told you didn't take reservations for the patio. This information should be made available on line. Had almost a 30 minute wait after all. I ordered the beer battered fish and chips and the fish batter was overdone. My husband ordered the swordfish which he thought was delicious. "

  • "I've dined at Palmers several times. I've been here for lunch, happy hour small plates, and full dinners, and I've never had a bad experience here. I've never even had an average experience. I've always been extremely pleased and impressed. Thank you!"

  • "Made a reservation through Open Table. When we arrived on time we were told our name would be put on a list. We finally found a seat at the bar and ate there, but was never called by the hostess for our table. She was not friendly and had no sense of what hospitality really is. It was just a job to her. "

  • "If you are looking for a great place to dine in the Nicholasville Road area, you must go to Palmer's! The food, the service, and the atmosphere are all top notch. If you consider yourself a foodie, this is a great place to try. The shrimp and grits are worth the trip! It is a wonderful venue if you are looking for a romantic night out or if you are looking for a great night out with friends. I can't say enough about the food and the service. We were thoroughly impressed with everything. The manager stopped by our table to inquire about our evening. Our server was excellent and made recommendations for one of our entrees. The bread pudding is also a must try. You will be pleased with the entire experience."

  • "We love Palmers. The food is always excellent. It has become one of our favorite restaurants. On our last visit however we dined at the outside bar. There were burning torches that left ashes on our clothes and in our drinks and, of course, we were seated next to the only outdoor fan that didn't work. We still love Palmers...just not the patio bar. Maybe they should lose the torches. "

  • "While the food was excellent, the service equated to one of the worst dining experiences I've had ever. We were seated almost an hour after our reservation time. The server we had was extremely unpleasant and inattentive. "

  • "Great food....made reservations for 1:15 arrived at 1:05. Was told they were a little behind and it be a few minutes. After 30 minutes I checked in to see what the issue was as there were many empty tables. Told issue was in the kitchen. Was seated in about 5 minutes of that. The waitress was up front and said that normally took 20 minutes to get orders up from kitchen today running 35 to 40. We ordered our group of 5. It took an hour and 10 minutes. Would have thought we would never have to ask for refills on drinks as they were not busy delivering food. But, we went long stretchs not seeing our server. The manager did come by before we left and apologize and offered discount on future visit. I told him it was a shame great food awful serv"

  • "Their food is excellent but their speed of order to table is terrible. It is not the fault of their servers but is very much a kitchen management issue. We waited over an hour from the time of our order until we received our food with our total time approaching two hours in the restaurant. I understand Mother's day is always a challenge but there isn't any good excuse for food delivery times that long when our 3 entrees consisted of kids shrimp, tilapia, and shrimp and grits."

  • "Had reservations for 4 for lunch after church. Arrived right on time, place was hopping -- we were seated immediately. We had a booth by a window that overlooked the patio and the pond with the fountain -- nice! Had a pitcher of white wine sangria to start our celebration. Bread was served nice and warm accompanied by olive oil w/ seasoning. Kitchen was a bit backed up, server said they were much busier than a typical Sunday, and it took a while to get our entrees, but we didn't mind because we were enjoying our conversation. Food was delicious - tuna with wesabi mashed potatos & brussel sprouts for me. Others enjoyed trout, fried fish, & a chicken pasta dish. Mothers received complementary cheesecake for dessert - Yum! "

  • "Twice we have eaten at Palmer's for lunch on a Sunday. Both times we waited for our food for over an hour. The restaurant is nice and the food is good, our servers were also good. The kitchen isn't able to keep up causing a lengthy delay and both meals to be comped"

  • "Waited an hr for food - only received after asking. Party of four ordered two salads, raw oysters/sautéed spinach, and catfish. Catfish was not fully cooked, although we were comped on that particular dish, produce was old, spinach was not brought with everything else - brought later. Had to ask for refill of beverages several times."
