Diner Reviews
  • "A bit slow service, but nice place. Good modern Italian food, no surprises (if you want them go somewhere else). A bit boring if you ask me, but it was definitely a nice place"

  • "The margarite pizza was undercooked so the crust was soggy still. The well conceived calamari, shrimp and veggie appetizer was also undercooked resulting in doughy texture for the breading. And alas the nightly special of fresh swordfish was way overcooked so the fish was dry and tasteless. Good ingredients, good service: poor execution."

  • "The restaurant was empty so we were a little nervous about the food but everything was AMAZING! The risotto was the best I have ever had and the spaghetti and meatballs were OUTSTANDING!"

  • "This place was great, very accommodating and the food was delish. Also they are gluten friendly which is a big plus, I will be back."

  • "Space between tables, low noise level and attentive, prompt service make this a perfect place for doing business over lunch."

  • "Very good food. Service was very friendly, but a bit slow for a business lunch."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "We were one if three tables being served but our waitor was attentive and very detail oriented. Food was excellent. Nice bar area and plenty of seating with a good mix of booths, tables for larger parties and smaller more intimate seating"
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "I've taken large groups here for dinner and also just a few friends. This restaurant always delivers. Good fresh food, amiable service, and a comfortable dining room all contribute to a a very comfortable dining experience."

  • "Food was excellent. Mixed drinks were really good. Service was a little slow. Would go there again for a second try."
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "I had the veal scallopini and my wife had the crabmeat pasta. We both thought our dishes were not up to our expectations... especially for the San Francisco prices."
    Dined on 5/27/2014
  • "Came here on a group on deal and glad I took advantage of it. Pizza Siciliana was excellent, lobster deviled was delicious and the spaghetti and meatballs were good also. Our server was Martinez and he was very friendly and helpful with the menu."
    Dined on 5/22/2014
  • "Great lunch spot and great service. The Swordfish special was fantastic as was the pizza. "
    Dined on 5/21/2014
  • "Service was slow (perhaps not enough servers). Food was good (our group enjoyed pasta dishes including meatballs and spaghetti and fettuccine with fava beans). Romaine salad was good but could have used more dates and cheese. Assorted cookies and biscotti were ok and presentation was unimaginative. Loved the French press coffee. Space is large so conversation is easy. Owner served some dishes and was very warm and welcoming. "

  • "Easy menu and easy to make last minute reservations. "
    Dined on 5/14/2014
  • "we did not plan to order pizza for lunch - but could not help ourselves, b/c the delicious aroma was all over the place. Salads were great too."
    Dined on 5/13/2014
  • "I have been having business lunches there for years, and it is always great! The food and service are always good. And although the room is lively, you can hear all the people at your table easily. "

  • "The highlight of the evening for us was the discovery of the wine, a Ciligiolo from Mareema in Tuscany. We encountered this wine at a great little gem in Florence, but had never seen this wine on any restaurant's wine list since then. "
    Dined on 5/8/2014
  • "Decor, food and overall atmosphere is outdated and from the late 80-90s. For the prices charged they need a serious update and a general scrub down and cleaning. The place and restrooms are dingy. The china are worn out. If this place was a dive restaurant with cheaper prices then this review would have been so critical. "

  • "This was the perfect atmosphere for a business lunch. The noise level was low enough that we could have a reasonable conversation, and we didn't feel pressured to leave once our meal was complete."
    Dined on 5/2/2014
  • "We had theater tickets with a 7:00pm curtain time so dinner needed to be fairly fast. Ae 5:50, Palio d'Asti is very uncrowded and our waiter was excellent, so getting food fast was not a problem. We shared several antipasti, a salad, a pizza, and a pasta. The pasta was amazing, the salad good, but the rest of the food was very disappointing. The space is lovely with well spaced tables, so that even if crowded would be quieter than normal, and they clearly handle large crowds well - and large parties in their special rooms. It is obviously a great place for large groups. Great for a couple that just orders salad and pasta. Maybe the main dishes are okay, we didn't try one. "

  • "My husband and I come to Palio for lunch very time we visit SF. My husband is from Italy. The food he ate reminded him his grandma's cooking. What a treat !"

  • "We were seated at our reservation time and the restaurant immediately and politely accommodated our +1 bringing our group total to 11. There was a group of about 15 sitting next to us and appeared to have arrived just before us. After 30 minutes, we hadn't ordered drinks and the other group was getting refills and their food. We realized that both groups and a few tables were sharing one server. Listening to my entire senior staff grumble was PAINFUL. I asked the manager for better service and he sped things up for a few minutes but overall it was agonizingly slow. I'm still going to look around the Fi-di for some place that can quickly serve a large group."

  • "My husband and I, while visiting San Francisco, found a play to see at the Eureka Theater in the Financial District. I did an online search of the area to locate a restuarant. It is always a pleasure to discover a new restaurant and enjoy the experience. We ate a light pre-theater dinner of pizza margherita and grilled asparagus; both delicious. Our favorite find was a "seasonal cocktail" called 'scotchtail'; it was delicious!"

  • "You don't need to eat here --- your money works at any other restaurant that has mediocre Italian food. The service started off pretty good but TANKED. They had (1) server for the entire restaurant. The "owner" apparently has no clue how successful restaurants are managed. To make matters worse, he's got a really bad attitude. There are so many great restaurants in San Francisco - this place doesn't belong here."

  • "we often go with a group, either family or friends. we always feel very welcomed by the staff and the warm well designed interior. it is a great place to go and share food and try lots of different things. everything is good. we sometimes bring our grandchildren and they are accommodating. if they have a special tasting menu for a holiday or special occasion-do it! it is so delicious and fun."

  • "The small town feel and the great food and service combine to make this a real find in downtown San Francisco. I love it when the owner is involved with every custom to make sure they are satisfied."

  • "We had a lovely waitress who was very attentive and very friendly. Very pleasant place to have a meal."

  • "We have nothing bad to say about this restaurant other than there are many more in the area that are better in every category - especially at their price level!"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "The restaurant is spacious, comfortable, and with a moderate noise level. So many restaurants in SF are so cramped and eating right next to another table, that we really appreciated the privacy. The service was impeccable and every we ordered was very satisfying and delicious. We especially liked the pasta which was offered in smaller portions, so we were able to enjoy variety of other dishes."

  • "Palio has potential, but judging by special offers on discount sites,it is not there yet. This should not dissuade you as the pastas were marvelous, and the service excellent, and the physical setting attractive. The entrees were passable. Unfortunately, the main dining room was off limits due to a bus tour and the other dining room had a large noisy party. Try it and if you hit the right evening and stick with appetizers and pasta, you may have a winner."
    Dined on 3/3/2014
  • "The food was excellent, great cocktail menu and wonderful service. My only complaint is that we were seated right behind and very close to a large table of people who were very loud, and it took away from the ambiance a bit. Overall I'd absolutely return as the food and service were perfect!"

  • "The pre fix meal for four was a great deal. The food was delicious and the staff and owner were terrific. I would definitely return."
