  • "Excellent Lamb dinner---tender with a delish pesto sauce drizzled on top."

  • "Otto's has a fun outdoor dining area. Live performace Music is good. A little too loud. Cuts off conversation. I would call everything "overcooked". Food is tasty, but overcooked."

  • "If you're a regular at Otto's your familiar with the awesome warm sour dough bread they bring before dinner. The bread is one of the reasons for choosing this restaurant. Well, they changed the bread. The bread we received with our dinner was pretty bad. No one in our party had more than one bite. Started the evening on a disappointing note. It was also very noisy. to a level that you couldn't converse. It was a very busy night. Service and dinner was great as always."

  • "Otto's is our family's go-to place for a special occasion (birthday, anniversary, etc). They are consistent in both excellent service and delicious food. Have not been disappointed ever with Otto's."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary and my wife's birthday at our most special dining place. The bar was friendly and comfortable, the food was exceptional and the service was great."

  • "As always the food and service at Otto's was perfect. We have eaten here many times and not once had a problem with either, however, the past two times we have experienced problems with noise. On our last visit we were placed next to a very loud/boisterous/intoxicated group of six. On this visit, we had a great spot on the outdoor, covered, deck. Beautiful evening. Quiet Tuesday, not busy at all. It could have been a perfect night had the woman seated next to us in the corner not spent a good 10 minutes visiting with her daughter on her cell phone! PEOPLE, EVERYONE SPEAKS LOUDER ON A CELL PHONE, even if you think you are speaking softly! I do put some of the blame on the restaurant for not asking the woman to step out of the dining area."

  • "Excellent service. Fast, efficient, not obtrusive. Good food as usual (love the tomato bisque and blood orange sorbet). However, the stairs were extremely difficult for one of our group. If we had known our table would involve such a climb we would have requested another one, since there was plenty of room below. Perhaps the server could have noticed our friend struggling?"

  • "We dined at Otto's for a second time a couple of weekends ago. The service in the bar was excellent--friendly and accommodating. The service at the table was outstanding and it was beautiful to dine on the porch. Our friend tried duck for the first time and he thought it was delicious and so was the sea bass and lamb. We will definitely return to this restaurant."

  • "My wife and I dine at Otto's roughly each month and we get the 3 cheese plate appetizer and an 8 Oz Filet, always very tender, always cooked perfectly. Best in town, especially for the price. The soups are also quite good. Summer balcony dining is very relaxing."

  • "Made a reservation for early evening when there was not a full house of diners. We both ordered seafood... one dinner was mixed seafood grill the other was Scottish salmon special. Both meals were well prepared and very tasty. The server was very pleasant and efficient. She offered gluten-free toast with the salad (I have celiac disease) which was a nice touch. Orange sorbet was our dessert and it was also very good. Overall it was a very pleasant and satisfying dining experience. We will do it again."

  • "I've been visiting Madison once a month for several years and one of my regular stops has always been at Otto's. Great ambiance, great service, great wines and above all, fine cuisine which means that selecting a dish is actually hard. Way to go with the 3-course menu at $25, or $35 if you add the pairing wines. Only regret: this menu is not offered in the summer time."

  • "Walleye special was colorless and lacked flavor with bland almond coating. Tomato bisque soup was very nice as was Ceasar salad."

  • "We have eaten at Otto's many times over the years and we feel it has some of the best food in the area as well as excellent service."

  • "We had three diverse eating preferences in our group and we were all able to find an entrée that met our needs and all were found to be very good. We had good service despite a large party in the upper level. Our server pointed that out a upon our arrival and recommended that we should get our orders in to avoid a long wait."

  • "We had 3 generations celebrating a high school graduation and a girlfriend of the graduate and a new boyfriend and we had a wonderful time together. The lamb was exceptional! Would recommend to others. Our waiter did a great job but was challenged with a witty group and I don't think he was too happy with us. He did a great job though."

  • "New Zealand rack of lamb was excellent. Dinner service was timely but not rushed."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Vegetables had an unusual spice and too much of it. I wanted to taste vegetable not basil, dill, or whatever it was. Both of us felt an over use of spices in our meals."

  • "Otto's is always good. Service is excellent and all your needs are taken care of with a smile. Husband's Chilean Bass was wonderful. My salmon which I had asked for rare came well-done. However, they quickly apologized and returned with a perfectly done substitute. They know how to keep a happy customer."

  • "We had a great meal on a Friday evening at Otto's. We're seated outside on the side patio area. Next time we'll make reservations for the covered patio so we won't have to deal with the hot afternoon sun in our eyes. Chose a sampler starter with mushroom caps, bruschetta and prosciutto wrapped shrimp. Shrimp was a bit chewy but the other two were great. Chose the Scottish salmon special and the diver scallops for our main course. Everything was seasoned well, scallops and salmon prepared perfectly and the rice was a great complement to the scallops. Portions were good sized and we had enough salmon and rice left over for one lunch the following day. Service was attentive and very friendly. Will definitely dine here again."

  • "There was a mix-up with our order in the kitchen so there was a slight delay in our service. The waitress offered us complementary dessert to compensate, but it wasn't necessary as the delay wasn't that bad. Very nice dinner. "

  • "We had been dining at this restaurant since it opened, but stopped a few years ago after several unpleasant experiences with the food. We have tried it again three times over the last 3-4 months. The problem is the food. It's just not all that good. The fish is over-sauced, the steak is thin, a bit dry (no marbling), cooked on a too-low heat, and pretty much tasteless. The salads are good and the service is superb. We doubt we'll be visiting again anytime soon ... a shame since it's locally owned and only a short drive from our home."

  • "Two of us in the party are gluten free and dairy free, and it was so awesome to go to a restaurant that really understands that and got it right. Not just that, but the dinner was awesome and our server was good. All in all, an excellent dining experience."

  • "I hadn't been to Otto in several years, and my companion had never dined there. Our experience was wonderful. The atmosophere was warm, the cocktails outstanding, the service excellent, and the food delicious and beautifully presented. I dine out often, and I am sorry it took me so long to re-visit Otto's. It is surely one of Madison's top restaurants. I'll be back soon and often. "

  • "My wife and I have been going to Otto's for 13 to 14 years it is consistently one of the best restaurants in the Madison area. The food and service have always been excellent and Kim the bartender is a true gem."

  • "wow, what a nice find. this is probably the best restaurant we have ever dined. the ambiance was great, sitting outside, beautiful flowers in the flower boxes, nice linens and then the food.... super good and nice size portions. the tomato bisque soup was the best I had had, the duck my husband has very good. we will definitely be back. we used the Around Me app on my phone as we were just passing through, that App found us our hotel and this excellent restaurant. "

  • "We had a group of 12 celebrating a special birthday. The service was great, the food was outstanding. Our wait staff were friendly, which I appreciate with a large group. The food is prepared with that extra bit of out of the ordinary. Steaks are flavorful, the sea bass was delicious. For starters - the crab cakes, calamari, and mussels were all very good - with yummy home made sauces. "

  • "It's a great place for some great food. It's a little pricier than your average restaurant in the area, but it was worth it. The drinks were very generous too!"

  • "Everyone at our table ordered something different off the menu and everyone raved about the food they were eating. One of the group needs gluten free items and the waitress noticed this and brought her some gluten free bread. This has never happened at any other restaurant we visited!"

  • "Based on the positive reviews for Otto's, thought my date and I would check it out....both of us were not disappointed. Our waiter highly recommended the sea bass and the lamp chops, both of which looked very good to us so we decided to order both items and share. My date and I agreed that the lamb chops were probably the best we ever had, and while not as good, the sea bass was also something to come back for and experience again. Overall the menu was a bit pricey, but given the quaility of the food prepared it is well worth the price. We will definately be going back again. "

  • "Had not been to Otto's in many years and was not disappointed in the food. The tasting menu was delicious and a great value. The only downside was the service. Friendly waitress, but each food course came out so rapidly, we hardly had time to start the last one. Then wine did not follow the courses because of this. The waitress disappeared when it was time to get the check, so it took a while to pay. Still, would come back and try out the patio and delicious food!"

  • "After being welcomed at the bar with an excellent margarita, my wife and I spent our 9 year anniversary enjoying the ambience of a tucked away beauty in Madison. The bartenders were friendly and engaging, and Fred was a hit. We learned the history and much more over 2 drinks. After drinks we headed upstairs in what felt like my Grandparents home. A classy and cozy feel. We each chose the Chefs tasting menu with the wine pairing. I highly recommend. The salad was fresh and delicious with a flavorful dressing. She had the walleye and I had the ribeye. We've each had many fish frys, and steak dinners but we agree that this ranks among the top 5 we've ever had. The cheese plate was perfect and the desert was, well, we'll definitely be back. "

  • "My husband and I went to Otto's for our wedding anniversary and had a wonderful dining experience. I ordered the seafood combo and the salmon, scallops, and shrimp were cooked to perfection. My husband had a steak and he said that also was flavorful and seasoned well. Our waiter was very attentive. Our courses came at nice intervals and we never felt rushed. The wait for our main course was very short. We splurged on an appetizer which was stuffed mushrooms and that also was very tasty and just the right size, so it didn't spoil our appetite for supper. The old fashioned I had was excellent! The ambience of an older home was very cozy and relaxing. Will definitely go back again!"
