Diner Reviews
  • "The food is very good but unfortunately they served it a bit fast, they brought the food almost all together instead of "steadily and continuously throughout the meal" as it says on the web site and the menu."

  • "Tried many dishes and all were excellent (except for the gnocchi, but I accidentally ordered not reading thoroughly that there was duck in it, which I'm not a fan!). The braised short rib that came with the sea bass was phenomenal. Truffle mac & cheese was amazing! The wine is great, but they don't have a very good variety of moderately priced wine which was hard for our group since not everyone wanted to pay $20/glass :) Food came quickly but service was a bit slow at times. It was OK, though, because the servers were fun and very knowledgeable when they did come around! No biggie, though, it was better than the service that constantly interrupts your conversation. We had a great time!"

  • "The food was delicious and the service was excellent, but the portions were super small. Four of us had to shared 3 lamp chops, 3 fish tacos, and salads that were so tiny that we had to order individual salad plates. We won't be back."

  • "We went for our wedding anniversary recently and it was ok. The food was way overpriced as tapas usually is but the portions were small even for small plate dining. The food wasn't spectacular but it was pretty good. The staff was great. And although there was some sort of beer something going on, it just took away that the staff were all wearing t-shirts and not ... I don't know, something nicer. Overall it was fine but I don't think we'd go there again. Nor would we necessarily recommend it to friends unless they had some extra money and were ok going to mcd's afterwards to stop being hungry."

  • "My husband and I had our date night here. The amotsphere was great.. however the tables are very close... So not a lot of privacy. We enjoyed the great food and wine and the chef even stopped by our table. We will definitely go again."

  • "I enjoyed the food and personal touch of the Chef/Owner greeting customers and actually cooking in the kitchen. I have been here several times and this touch seems to be the norm."

  • "The restaurant is very loud inside and difficult to hear someone speaking from just across the table. The food was good, but portions were incredibly small considering the price. We were dining out with another couple and the food comes out as it is ready, but sometimes it is not enough to share for four people. We ordered the ribs (four ribs - $13), chicken skewers (two tenders - $9), macaroni and cheese (one spoonful each - $8), beef skewers (three small skewers - $10), ravioli (4 ravioli - $10). This would be a great place to stop and have a drink before going somewhere else for dinner or for a light bite with girlfriends, but not if you are hungry. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else to share a regular meal and dessert."

  • "We went with another couple for a birthday celebration. Upon arriving a few minutes late for our reservation, we were warmly greeted and immediately seated by the host. The waitress was prompt and friendly, and made excellent suggestions. We had been here once before with a group for a late night appetizer and drinks so we weren't sure about how it would be for dinner. The calamari was outstanding, the fish tacos were also a table favorite but honestly, everything we tried was delicious. The owner/chef came out about half way through dinner to see how we liked our meal. We will be back again and again!"

  • "This place was fantastic and did not disappoint! The bone marrow and foie gras was literally one of the tastiest dishes we have ever eaten. We were so impressed with how flavorful it was. Several other dishes were also very good and we ended with the banana bread pudding which was to die for. Overall, we were very impressed with the food and the service and plan to go back to try more things. The only thing that could've been improved was the space -- the tables were a little too close to one another and conversation was not exactly private. However, the evening was wonderful and the food made up for the close quarters. If the other dishes are as good as the ones we tried, this place will definitely become one of our favorites spots to eat."

  • "We went as two couples on a Friday night. The food there was excellent and so was the wine selection. The tapas style sharing menu was very good witha wide variety to suit all tastes at the table. The chicken skewers were very mediocre so I would not recommend them. Rice and peanut sauce don't work well together. The corn with miso butter is highly recommended. The sausage was excellent. Among the desserts, the cheesecake is average while the campfire was a lot of fun and is a must"

  • "We were treated to excellent food with exotic taste treats and wonderful, personal service during our celebration of shared cuisine. The wine was a perfect match with the meal. Desserts were a treat for both the eye and tastebuds. The attention to various diet choices on the menu made ordering easy."

  • "We came Saturday Feb 15. We were very excited to try several things on the menu like the lamb and pork belly. We arrived for our reservation and there was no where to wait. We just stood awkwardly by the door. The waiter explained how to order dishes but the first 4 dishes we ordered were unavailable! We settled on risotto and spring rolls and our order comes out wrong. We get green beans. We say they aren't ours but instead of the waiter acknowledging he made a mistake he leaves them on our table and makes us try them. Instead of the dinner I planned to have, I got full off of risotto, green beans and spring rolls- and I'm not a vegetarian. I wanted to leave Oro to go to Beasleys Chicken And Honey."

  • "Starting out with the Truffle Mac n Cheese and the Caesar salad revealed that the food was wonderful. A Maker's Mark and Coke for me and a glass of Moscato for her, and the night became relaxed. The next "course" was the filet, crab fritters and beef skewers. The filet was cooked perfectly, although very small, and the crab fritters were close to as good as conch fritters in Key West. The meal was finished off with an Apple Pineapple Crisp with Vanilla ice cream........perfect! The food is a little pricey, but worth it for a special occasion. The "tapas" style will not leave you hungry nor feeling stuffed. The chef and owner, Chris Hylton made his rounds and spoke to each table. That shows me that the quality will not slip."

  • "Place is modern internally with music playing (so not the place for a romantic dinner). However it reminds me of some of the more modern upbeat type restaurants you find today. Tables are close together, so not really private. We dined more along the tapas approach and found the food hit and miss; The Chilean Sea Bass and Bone Marrow was great where the Jerk Flatbread was ok. I think going in a group of maybe four where everyone selects different dishes would better for trying more different dishes. The service we had was very good, but I wouldn't rate it top notch. Overall dining experience was good. It is worth the visit to try dishes you haven't had before or cooked slightly differently."

  • "They warn you that the food will come out as it is prepared, but it really came out too fast. Felt like we were rushed through our meal. Would have liked to enjoy the charcuterie board before having multiple hot dishes delivered -- felt like we had to eat them quickly so they wouldn't get cold. The fish tacos were not as good as I had remembered, but the calamari was delicious -- very light batter and tender. By the time we had our 9 pm reservations, they did not have several of the dishes that we had been interested in (e.g., the ribs, veal ravioli). Waitress did a great job. While there were some hiccups, we will still probably go back."

  • "From the moment we arrived we were swept by the beautiful ambience and modern décor! Our server Susan C., was vibrant, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. She clearly knew every item and what dietary restrictions might have an issue. More importantly, she had a genuine love for what she was doing and an appreciation for the food! She was terrific! Then the food we had was truly "a cut above" we are used to dining at fine restaurants and for a very modest cost we received one of the best meals we have had at any pricier location (NYC, South Beach, Vegas...etc.). Speaking with the Chef at the end of the night, we were so impressed with the love and pride the Chris puts into all of his dishes."

  • "First visit to ORO- made 6 pm reservations on a Saturday night, but it didn't appear we needed them. While being seated upstairs we noticed only one other couple in that dining area and asked to be seated by the window. The young hostess denied our request and said she cold not alter reservations. We noticed that the upstairs remained vacant except for 2 people our entire stay. Poor Customer service from the hostess / management. On to the food. Our waiter Corey was very nice and helpful- did a great job. ordered several small plates and drinks, all were very good. We will probably go back again- arrive early not make reservations ,sit at the bar and hope the hostess were encountered is off that night."

  • "We found the food to be average, portions very small and the prices quite high for what you get. The restaurant was recommended by some friends but we will not return. Considering all the other restaurants in the area, we could have done better."

  • "We wanted to select a special dining experience for our girls' night out and we found it in ORO. The whole dining experience was incredible. The presentation of the food has an original flair and the taste of all the choices was literally mouth watering. Our wait person was excellent and seemed to enjoy serving us, which made our dining even more fun! No one that loves great food, Raleigh night life, and wonderful dining ambience, should miss ORO. We will be back soon!"

  • "My friends and I were looking for a place to reconnect and catch up while enjoying great food. Oro was beautiful! Clean lines and a white color pallet took us away from kids and crockpot meals! We enjoyed sharing our food, especially the beet salad and mushroom dishes. My gnocchi with smoked duck was phenomenal and executive chef Chris Hylton endured my questions and laments over trying to prepare duck in my own home. He was very gracious and took the time to make myself and my friends feel special! The finale of table side s'mores made the evening one to remember!"

  • "The food was delicious and the tapas style ordering/portion size kept us from begin overly-stuffed. The wild mushroom risotto was by far my favorite! I was disappointed, however, with the cramped nature of the seating plan. It appeared that they split the room in half (tables/booths on one side and high tops on the other) and filled the first half of the restaurant first instead of staggering people on either side. Went for a "date night" with my husband and felt like we were sitting on top of other couples. Was very cramped and didn't understand why they didn't spread out more. Minor detail in the overall experience, though, and would definitely go back!"

  • "We chose ORO for a date night. It's the perfect place to pace yourself eating, drinking, and talking. The only problem is that the food was soooo good we wanted to try more. We will definitely go back with friends to enjoy more from the broad and delicious menu."

  • "I loved Oro! The food, the service and the ambiance were fantastic. Great place to meet with friends or a romantic dinner for 2. I celebrated my birthday there and look forward to returning soon. The Fried chicken and green tomatoes were awesome as was the macaroni and cheese and the lamb chops. I love that the food can be shared by all. And the wine list! Absolutely amazing!"

  • "I have been to Oro over a dozen times and find the food to be among the best the triangle has to offer. favorites include truffle Mac & Cheese, Pork Belly, Shrimp and grits, grilled corn, heirloom tomato flat bread. Great desserts as well. Try the bread pudding. Service is friendly and the staff is very knowledgeable on the food and wines. They take your order on an ipad. It is a tapas style menu and I recommend you order one course at a time as the food does come from the kitchen rather quickly."

  • "The food was good and the fact that it is a tapas style restaurant makes it to try other foods. We mad the mistake of ordering 3 "heavy" plates. Gnocchis, risotto, and Thai noodles. The risotto was the best of the 3 as the gnocchis were a bit bland and there was too much creamy pesto sauce. The noodles seemed a bit slimy and since this was the first time we have them, we weren't sure if this was the correct consistency. The wine list was expansive and being able to have 2,4,6, or 8 ounce glasses is such a plus. On the dessert side I was not impressed. The chocolate cake was a cross between a normal cake and a lava cake. It tasted more like a brownie. The creme bruelee seemed a bit grainy. Overall, we will be back to try other dishes!!"

  • "I brought my girlfriend here for our anniversary dinner and for our first time there I must say I was extremely impressed. The wait staff was extremely prompt and helpful with recommendations and the owner/executive chef came and personally thanked us for dining with him which was a nice little touch. Regardless of how you might feel about the sound of it, the Carmelized pork belly was the hit of the night and deserves to be on every table in that restaurant. Two thumbs up for the entire experience."

  • "From the moment we sat til the moment we left, we were pampered with great food and drink. Special attention to details was the hallmark of the evening. Marissa, when asked if there were blue cheese stuffed olives for our martinis simply said "yes" and went back to the bar to stuff some!!!! 1st class if you ask me. The food was decadently delicious, served in large enough portions to share with three persons. Definitely a keeper!!!"

  • "The wine list is wonderful, full range of prices and varieties. We tried a few 4 oz. and a 2 oz...all were winners; and you get to try wines you probably would not buy because of the bottle cost. Mushroom risotto was amazing...a large serving; the Three Bean Cake was wonderful, topped with a variety of grilled vegetables. We are definitely going to return and work our way through the menu. Our server was well informed about the wines and food."
