Diner Reviews
  • "We were visiting from Pennsylvania and I wanted to buy a good dinner for our hosts. I did some research and landed on this wonderful restaurant. After recently touring steakhouses (Morton's, Capital Grille, Sullivan's, Ruth Chris, and other Philadelphia steakhouses), my wife and I agree that Opus 9 was better than the Philly-area steakhouses. From the appetizer's through the dessert, everything was tasty and on point. Peter Luger's in Brooklyn still holds my #1, but Opus 9 is my new #2. Our waiter was wonderful, as well!"

  • "I reviews the menu online before selecting the restaurant. By 6:45pm on a Saturday the were out of everything I wanted for my birthday. There's some false advertising about cigars for sale as well the my waiter told me were 2 years old & not humidified. It was all about the aggressive upsell."

  • "My husband and I really love Opus 9, but this last weekend I took my daughters and was sadly disappointed because the food tasted so different. The usual fries with the hamburgers were totally different and honestly not very good at all. My raspberry vinaigrette chicken salad also tasted different/not nearly as good as usual. Hope they fix this as Opus 9 is my favorite place."

  • "I am always skeptical ordering steak at a restaurant, if it is not better than what I can do at home why bother. Opus 9 had an excellent steak it was definitely one of the best I had at any restaurant. I was in the mood for a surf and turf and we ordered the fillet topped with crab meat. Fillet steaks are a likely tricky to cook, I went with the large 12 oz and it was cooked to perfection, Medium Rare. I will look forward to returning! We had a great table and service was superb."

  • "As usual, my huband and I chose Opus 9 for our Anniversary dinner, always one of our favorites places. His swordfish special and my crabcakes were excellent. Yet, the dramatic rise in prices on the menu and the diminishing niceties that used to accompany a meal (dinner mints, no anniversary recognition, etc.) will no doubt make our visits less frequent. If you have an early dinner as we did, your conversations may have to compete with the noisy happy hour bar."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Opus 9 for our 2 year anniverary and could not have been more pleased with the experience. The food was fantastic and the service was definitely above par. I will definitely be going back next time I am in the area."

  • "Opus 9 Steakhouse has excellent steaks and the service is outstanding. It is a very appropriate restaurant for special occasions."

  • "Three of us appreciated our servers flexibility in that we wanted to order a selection of appetizers, a salad and one steak to share among us. He staged out dinner very well and we enjoyed everything. Also appreciated how nicely he prepared what we didn't finish so that we could take it home."

  • "What I love about Opus is how consistently good it is. Never disappoints! Their steaks melt in your mouth and are cooked to perfection. Their seafood is fresh and seasoned lightly so it can be savored."

  • "We had our Anniversary Dinner and celebrated 53 years. The meal was great and good service."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "The $40 ribeye, the least expensive steak on the menu, and the easiest, most forgiving steak for a restaurant to pull off, was unmarbled, tough and tasteless. Three people, the server, the maitre d'hotel, and a third server picking up the check, all asked how the steak was, all in an entirely perfunctory way, and had no response when I told them. I'd expect a $40 steak to be prime beef. If Opus 9's supplier purveyed this steak as prime, shame on all of them. To call it choice would have take a suspension of judgement. The sides were grim, too. À la care creamed spinach was soupy and mulched; potatoes au gratin lacked un gratin, and were tasteless escalloped potatoes. Overpriced, mediocre, pretentious restaurant."

  • "I was underwhelmed by their signature steak, The Oscar. It was overcooked and it wasn't seasoned well. The bernaise sauce made it more flavorful. But overall, it was not a great steak. I wouldn't order it again. Also, once we were finished eating and I had paid, the waiter didn't really return to ask us if we needed anything although we were finishing a bottle of wine. I was disappointed. The food wasn't worth the expense."

  • "We went for our anniversary and had a memorable night. Excellent food and the service was just as great. It wad the best steak I had in a long time."

  • "Fab steak, enormous lobster tails, incredible service. We were so happy we chose Opus 9 as the place to take some very special out of town guests. They loved their dining experience."

  • "We very much enjoyed our lunch at Opus 9. It was a pleasant opportunity to sit outdoors and have some well prepared food. You can get the best club sandwich here and the French Onion Soup is hearty and delicious. And with Martinis that are expertly made one could hardly want for much more. Though our server seemed to be having an off day. He never brought us our place setting or flatware. I had to retrieve some for us. We were also lacking on refills for our water glasses. When he returned with my credit card, there was no credit card slip. I chalk it all up to either an off day for him or lack of experience."

  • "My wife and I went last minute in a Saturday and it did not disappoint. The cowboy cut ribeye was great and my wifes's steak and lobster was even better. Service was courteous and nice. Prices are high but they deliver what you expect for the premium."

  • "food and service very good , price for a drink way to high. a grey goose martini 17.50 I don't pay that much in NYC"

  • "The food and service at Opus 9 are outstanding. The steak was cooked perfectly and the wine recommendation was exceptional. I liked the fact that we were in a side room which was quiet and contributed to the ambience of a great evening out. If you are looking for the best steak in Williamsburg, more like the entire Hampton Roads area, this is the place. I have eaten at steak houses in New York City and Chicago that were not as good as Opus 9. A true gem! We will definitely be back."

  • "I was looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate my boyfriends 30th birthday and found a winner with Opus9! From the moment we entered the restaurant the experience was wonderful. Our waiter was exceptional, he recommend a great wine to compliment our dish. The food from appetizer to entree was hands-down the best!!! The ambiance was relaxing with just the right touch of elegance. The music was set at a volume which made it great to enjoy and still enjoy a conversation across the table. At the end of our meal our waiter brought out a complimentary desert with a candle for my boyfriend. Overall it was an excellent night, we will return!!"

  • "I was there a week ago and had the same $30 steak & lobster special, but this time the server was different and not nearly as attentive as Stasil was last Monday. Onion soup was only Luke warm and the entree meal must have been sitting out a while as the steak and lobster were almost cool. Still tasted ok but I didn't want to mention it when asked. I find their wine by the glass list vacant of nice Italian and French choices. Prices ok but poor selection in my opinion. Generally this is a fine restaurant and I'll go back again."

  • "We went for brunch and were so pleased by the food choices offered. The prime rib was amazing! They have a true brunch spread, consisting of breakfast and lunch items. The desserts looked homemade. I would highly recommend this restaurant! The service was outstanding."

  • "We have been to Opus 9 many times over the past six years. This past Saturday might have been the best. Opus 9 is one of our two favorite spots in Williamsburg."

  • "We had a small room with a fireplace that was actually quiet - hard to find these days. Agreat place to talk. Filet mignon was perfect. The noise rating scale on this app doesn't work - says do not recall no matter what you indicate. Noise level was the best I 've found in Williamsburg."

  • "this visit was less than satisfactory..paid $60+ for steak and lobster lobster tail; had to send lobster back as it was grossly over cooked and the replacement was some better, but not much. Steak was OK but no was really good. Server Brandon was good."

  • "In the past, when visiting Opus 9 for lunch, I have frequently enjoyed the steak and carmelized onion sandwich. This time the steak was on the tough side. Otherwise, the lunch provided an outstanding venue to reminisce with an old friend."

  • "Steak was excellent - one of the best I've ever had. Asparagus and broccoli could have used a tad more cooking, but were still very good nonetheless. Bananas Foster cheesecake was delicious. They have an extensive wine list and the Cabernet Sauvignon we had was excellent. Service was second to none. It's a very nice venue if you want to enjoy a leisurely dining experience."

  • "Was on holiday in Williamsburg and wanted to find a nice restaurant for my husband's birthday. Found Opus 9 on opentable and made reservations. Opus 9 is at the corner of an outdoor shopping center. The décor is modern, but a classic fell. The food was wonderful, and the wait staff attentive. The best part was having a 3 1/2 year old with us who was catered to as much as we were. The whole experience rivaled those I've had at Donovan's in San Diego. Well done!"

  • "We had an efficient waiter who was there when he was needed and did not interrupt conversations. Food was well prepared and served hot. This was our best experience at the restaurant and will return more frequently."

  • "My husband and I had a special 3 course deal. The dressing was light on the Cesar salad, the way I like it. The potato and onion soup of the day was nicely seasoned. Both of us ordered the New York strip steak, which came out sizzling on our extremely hot plates. They were nicely seasoned and cooked as ordered. The desserts, cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake, were made in house. Steve, our server, was very friendly and attentive."

  • "The food (grouper/salmon) was outstanding as was the Crème Brule. We enjoyed the nice ambiance and presentation. The service was good, but the waiter was slightly arrogant/intrusive. It is a toss-up whether to go to Opus 9 or Le Yaca in Williamsburg."

  • "Opus 9 was such a marvelous experience on our anniversary we may have started a tradition. Attention to detail, service, food & wine were all exceptional. Brandon, our waiter was 'Top Notch'. Opus 9 will continue to be a special place for us, where we will bring our family & friends who appreciate what fine dining should be. Bravo!"
