A word from Olio e Limone Ristorante
Olio e Limone Ristorante, located in downtown Santa Barbara's historic arts district, serves artisanal Zagat-rated Italian cuisine. Meaning “oil and lemon” in Italian, their restaurant’s name reflects husband-wife team Alberto and Elaine Morello’s philosophy: rely on the integrity of the ingredients and quality of the preparation to provide Santa Barbara diners “simply sophisticated” Italian cuisine served in an inviting atmosphere with European hospitality. Start with burrata salad or white Mediterranean anchovies, then tuck into a plate of house-made ravioli filled with roasted eggplant and goat cheese, topped with a fresh tomato and basil sauce and shaved ricotta salata. And be sure to take home a bottle of their own olio, an organic extra-virgin olive oil made from Sicilian olive varieties. Private dining in the Cucina Room for up to 40 guests. Bonus: their pizza bar, salumi bar, wine bar and full bar next door at Olio Pizzeria, with private dining for up to 32 guests.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was top quality and the wait staff attentive, knowledgable and very approachable. Restaurants of this caliber tend to have waiters who look down their noses. Our waiter was from Chili and was most gracious!"

  • "Our reservations were for 6pm We dined on tasty green olives, delicious bread with their signature Olio e Limone's Olive oil and were served with complimentary Prosecco to wet our palettes. Our salads were delicious - Tricolore and Crabcake. My husband enjoyed a most succulent rib entree I have ever tasted. He paired it with a red wine, Brunello di Montalcino, Poggio Basso, 2006. I enjoyed their a squid ink linguini topped with crab which I paired with a fragrant Grenache Blanc from the Curran vineyard in Santa Ynez valley. Our dessert was their signature and delicious Tiramisu ("lift me up!" ). We left at 8pm when the room was now filled and the only negative remark is that its temperature rose a bit much - body heat and hot food!"

  • "We went to Olio e Limone because of good ratings on Yelp. When we arrived the restaurant was PACKED - side by side by side. We laughed that our table was so small that one of us would have a dinner of bread, as the only place you could put the breadbasket was where a dinner plate would sit. The food was fine, but not notable. However, the service was notably rude. We brought in two really exceptional bottles of wine - one was a 1999 Napa Cab. A very special wine. When the waiter attempted to open the bottle, the cork broke. To which the waiter stated, "the cork broke because it has been poorly stored." He knew we brought in the bottle and yet he made the statement. Wow, a meal and an insult. So glad it we had to pay for it, too."

  • "The food is good -- sometimes better than good -- and the setting is handsome. The downside: high prices compared to other good Italian restaurants in Santa Barbara; service a bit chilly."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "This is a good but not excellent restaurant. We had been hearing for years that it was so wonderful, etc., and were eager to go. While it's just fine, the food and service don't match the prices."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "The restaurant is pretty and fancy, and although a pricier than the average restaurant I go to, it's actually quite affordable for the occasional nice night out. Unfortunately, the food is nothing extraordinary, and therefore a waste of time. It was very disappointing, I wouldn't recommend... :("

  • "We've had better meals here, so this time was disappointing. And the inattentive service didn't help. With all the fine restaurants in the area, I think on our next visit, I"ll go elsewhere."

  • "We had dinner twice and lunch once, and every bite of every dish was wonderful. This is Italian cooking at its best. They have a variety of dishes daily as specials, on top of a nice menu. At both dinners it was very crowded, reservations recommended. At lunch on Thursday it was surprisingly empty and we did feel priviledged eating almost alone, with the same wonderful level of food and attention. Risotto con funghi was fantastic, and a special of white asparagus wrapped in smoked salmon, with some delicate greens and delicate sauce was out of that world. Chocolate cannolli were excellent. The service is very good and attentative, everybody is very friendly. Great interiors. But, first of all, great food!"

  • "I have eaten at Olio e Limone twice. I had widely differing entrees each time and they were both excellent. The service was quick and kind. The wine was also excellent, and there were many choices. This is a restaurant to which I expect to make regular visits. It was a find and I recommend it."

  • "Nothing new to report as this has always been near the top of our list."

  • "Just had a lovely and delicious lunch at Olio e Limone. It is a favorite of mine and I always enjoy the food and service. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about good food."

  • "Wonderful! All food was delicious. Highly recommend."

  • "Delicious! What more can I say? The waiters were attentive, no hovering and the food was prepared and served in a timely manner. Will always return as a special treat."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "I'm told all the waiters are from Italy. Probably true as our waiter had a very thick accent, so could'nt understand all that he said. But the food was great, service prompt. Overall, lovely."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "Great food, but service was a bit slow. Not bad if you aren't in a hurry. We enjoyed visiting with our friends dining with us so it was not an issue."
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "We were there on a busy night, and we're jammed in to the back room. The tables are packed in so close together, it is uncomfortable. Long long wait for service, even longer wait for entrees. Had the chicken dish, totally uninspired. Either they take less reservations or get more staff. I will avoid this restaurant in future."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "Perhaps the waitstaff had been told they would all be fired after the night's shift, but they were slow, unfriendly (even as we tried to engage them), and grudgingly made eye contact. The food was uneven -- one dish great, the other okay. Our table was about 6 inches from the one next to us. There are lots of exceptional places to eat in Santa Barbara (that do NOT require you to reserve with a credit card)-- this place is no longer on my list."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "Normally a fantastic restaurant, but on this Wednesday night, the tables were so pressed together that we were literally unable to dine without bumping elbows with diners at adjacent tables. Also, it took 20 minutes before a waitperson offered beverages or first course."
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "We met friends visiting from out of town and had a lovely leisurely lunch. Try the quail salad as an appetizer, followed by pumpkin ravioli that melts in your mouth. Still the best Italian restaurant in Santa Barbara, if you don't mind the price."
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "The restaurant itself is charming; I just love the ambiance. The food is delicious, and the staff couldn't be better. Everyone should try this restaurant."

  • "our birthday party of four Sat nite had a wonderful time at O/e/L. The food, atmosphere and service was outstanding. Our first choice for great Italian dining in Santa Barbara. Grazie!"
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Based on a recommendation from our hotel, we made a reservation for this restaurant that was within walking distance. The service was attentive but not too much; water was refilled quickly and the waiter checked in a few times but then we were left to enjoy our meal. The salads were inventive and fresh. The pan roasted sea bass was accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes and served with a lemony sauce with cherry tomatoes and asparagus. We would return to this restaurant!"

  • "The food and service were outstanding. Our waiter was very personable and provided a wonderful birthday surprise. The wine choice was excellent. I had not dined there in 11 years - I am not going to wait any where that long to go back again. Highly recommend it. The ambience was quiet enough to hear my wife!"
    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "Superb service, original and delicious appetizers and a noise level that allows for comfortable conversation. Unusually interesting beer list - my husband loves tasting different beers, and most on this list of craft beers he had never seen before."
    Dined on 2/18/2014
  • "The zucchini puree soup was excellent, and the diver scallop appetizer was delicious. But the veal piccata was ho hum--not enough lemon and no capers. The broccolini served with it though, was very good. BUT we waited 45 minutes between the appetizer and the entree, with an empty wine glass. People who arrived 1/2 hour after us were leaving before we were served our entree. The waiter blamed the kitchen when he finally got back to us, but it was obvious that there were also not enough waiters. I counted 3 waiters for 100 people. The management opened a back room to additional patrons, without having enough waiters or cooks on hand. My birthday evening was ruined by my husband becoming so angry that he told off the waiter."

  • "Welcoming and attentive service lacked, but could have been our individual server. He seemed distracted and we were an afterthought; maybe the sections were different for the night and he was not used to the abundabce of 2 tops? Food was great! Ambience was romantic."

  • "As I live in Santa Barbara, I have gone to this restaurant before. One can be sure of getting very good food in a pleasant ambience, with very good service. It is always an enjoyable experience there and unlike many other restaurants, us senior citizens can hear each other!"

  • "Food was very good and service very attentive. Comfortable dining environment."

  • "We went for lunch for the first time on a friend's recommendation. The restaurant is very well situated in the centre of Santa Barbara and is large, so that it is easy to get in, except perhaps on special holidays. We shared an excellent antipasto - prosciutto with baby arugula, cheese and pears. The olives that came with the bread and olio while we were waiting were excellent. The chicken ravioli was less successful (too salty) and the old-fashioned scaloppini di vitello alla Marsala was generous and satisfying. We did not have wine, though the restaurant has a fabled cellar. Service is very good. Next time we will try their adjacent pizzeria - there is also a new bar that is not open yet. On the whole, a happy experience."

  • "My husband and I were in town for only a few days, and this was one of several restaurants that a friend recommended. Valentine's Day "just happened" to be the day we went to Olio e Limone. Because of the special day, extra tables were crowded into the space, a prix fixe menu only was available, and we had to give a credit card number to hold the reservation - all of which, we realize, was necessary only because of the date. So with those matters aside, I'm sure we would have had a more enjoyable experience on another day. Still, the food and service both were very good, and we would return on a less busy night."

  • "There was five in our group, all had different starter & entree. The salads were fresh with interesting additions like eggplant & goat cheese. The Dover sole was done to perfection and the lamb special was to die for."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "I found Olio e Limone to be excellent, although my wife's response was not so enthusiastic. She had a pasta dish that she reported was average at best (inferior to a favorite pasta bar - Broder's - in our hometown of Minneapolis). My entrée of veal scallopine with artichoke hearts and a light lemon sauce, roasted potatoes and fresh broccoli was superb; I savored every bite. Dessert of cannoli was likewise excellent, light and flavorful. Good, robust coffee - always a key benchmark for me."

  • "From the first you can tell immediately that the service is going to be exceptional and this proved to be the fact through the entire meal. The menu selection is full. We ordered two of the specials. Black Truffle Ravioli filled with fava bean with a light serving of a cream sauce. Eye rolling good. The other was the Trout special. My wife says the best she's ever had. Portions were perfect and not overwhelming. Service was paced to allow for enjoyment of each course and desert was timed perfectly after we finished our wine. Very attentive. My second time there and I will be returning."

  • "that I have had in ages! There were 2 of us and we did four courses each, ate every single bite of every course and left extremely contented! The service is second to none and the owners are lovely! I LOVE OLIO E LIMONE!!"
    Dined on 2/11/2014
  • "The salad and pasta entrees were OK but the canoli we ordered for dessert was the worst I have ever had - tasteless - surprising for an Italian restaurant in a town with so many good bakeries."
    Dined on 2/10/2014
  • "My wife and I have celebrated our wedding anniversary each of the last 11 years at O & L. We live in Orange Co., so it's a bit of a drive but well worth the trip. No more needs be said."
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "Artichoke soup is not something you see on a menu too often. As an artichoke fan we tried both the soup and the artichoke salad. Both were delicious. The soup was just the right consistency and the salad was very refreshing with the shaved pecorino. I thoroughly enjoyed my Dover Sole and my partner thought the Striped Bass was delicious. The staff were very accommodating when I had to change my reservation three times!"

  • "Very good food, nice atmosphere, excellent wine list . One of our favorite restaurants."
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "Salad and main course was yummy. Lemon tart dessert had delicious flavor but the consistency was somewhere between bar of soap and old jello. We left 1/2 of it on the plate. Our server made us feel like we were non-existent which unfortunately left a us with a bad impression of this restaurant. It was as if we were bothering him when he did occasional drop by for a 4 word check in."

  • "I live in Santa Barbara but hadn't been here for years. It's only gotten better. Great menu (plus a special "fast track" menu for the film festival), excellent wine list and efficient service. The ambience has been improved, too. We will definitely return, and soon!!!!"
