Diner Reviews
  • "We have been eating at Old Venice for over 16 years, and the food is consistently great. Delicious pastas, perfect pizzas and wonderful fresh salads with their signature blue cheese vinaigrette dressing. Service is attentive but not intrusive and the managers are very "hands-on". Great neighborhood Italian restaurant"

  • "This restaurant is divided into a festive bar, interior restaurant , and a lovely covered patio in the rear. We enjoyed terrific meals in a private atmosphere of he patio."

  • "After a day at Sea World we wanted something Italian. Open up my Open Table app, searched and found Old Venice. No trouble getting there, parking was easy. They seated us on the patio. Appetizers were fabulous as well as the wine. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "Our daughter and son-in-law highly recommended the Old Venice in Point Loma when we made a recent overnight trip to San Diego--and we were delighted. It was pouring rain, yet we stayed warm and dry in a covered patio part of the restaurant. Service was excellent and the food outstanding. Luckily, we had made a reservation between 4-6 p.m. and could take advantage of their daily happy hour/early bird. All starters and salads were half priced and the bruschetta is to die for! We shared a couple starters and then also shared a generoudly-sized lasagna entree. Again, it was delicious! We would definitely return!!!"

  • "Old Venice has been a gem of San Diego for a long time. Whether it is a romantic dinner for two or taking our 4 kids out to dinner Old Venice is perfect."

  • "We went there on a Saturday night and it was a terrible choice. The noise level was so high that we could not hear each other across a table for 4. To me, this is not dining, it is punishment. Perhaps on a weeknight I could have enjoyed the food, which was good, although not great. The bread was delicious, however. I would not give this restaurant a second chance as there was nothing special about it but the unpleasant atmosphere of loud noise."

  • "My Wife and I celebrated our 11th Year Anniversary at Old Venice and we couldn't be happier. The food is awesome, the wait staff was friendly, and the Manager came by to make sure we were doing well. He even wished us a Happy Anniversary and comped our dessert. We love this place!!!"

  • "No one available to seat us. The cook said to sit anywhere.one waiter, no bus boys/ other staff.menus were stained. 20 min. to get wine. 25 min. to get bread."

  • "I took my wife there for our anniversary and her birthday. I made the reservation online and even had to change it. That was very easy to do. The staff was remarkable and friendly. The food was truly outstanding! The ambience was typical Italian and was definitely worth the trip. The price was much better than I expected. Highly recommended for that true Italian/romantic feel."

  • "We were just visiting the area and used OpenTable to find a place close to us. Made a reservation for 8pm. Got there and the place was packed! took about 10 minutes for our table to be ready. We sat down and It took a bit for our waiter to get to us, perhaps because it was so busy, they even ran out of glasses! The bus boy was funny telling us how he was sorry it took a bit to get us water, forks, etc due to the backup in the dish washing. He was very pleasant and apologetic about it -and we were fine. From our group we picked a mix of Meat Raviolis, Cheese Raviolis, Spinach Lasagna , and spaghetti. With their meat sauce, creamy pesto and marinara. It was all very good. Some folks around us had ordered Pizza's that looked delicious."

  • "The website said it was one of San Diego finest dinnings. Well, paper on top of the table it's not exactly a fine dining. The food was okay; we ordered some pasta with meat sauce and barely saw any meat. It was a cheap kind of pasta with red sauce that you can get at very cheap places. The focaccia was tasty, and was more like a pizza than exactly focaccia. I can see how the cute lights can make the outside patio a romantic place in warmer nights, but overall the ambiance was not very good. The chairs are a little uncomfortable and the server took forever to come get our order. The wine list doesn't offer anything special. There are better options in the area It is a cheap place though..."

  • "This is my second time at Old Venice and it was even better 7 years later. The ambiance is so beautiful. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The food was out of this world! The steamed mussels were incredible! And the serving sizes are fit to share! very Romantic!"

  • "This was my first time dining at Old Venice. Onto the food: Veggie pizza, caesar salad, and brussel sprouts were very good, the meat ravioli tasted like it was microwavable and the meat sauce with it didn't have much favor. My cocktail was watered down, but my glass of cabernet was very nice. Onto the service: The hostess was lovely and personable. Our waiter seemed a bit inexperienced and too casual for what would be fitting for this establishment. He didn't pay attention to detail; ie: no cracked pepper was offered for our salad, no parmesan cheese or red peppers offered for the pasta and pizza. He wasn't prompt on refilling water or offering another cocktail."

  • "My wife and I came here for lunch during restaurant week... We had a late lunch, so there were only a few other tables being served. We decided to sit in the "sunroom" area in the back and it was very nice. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly and the food was fantastic - I definitely recommend Old Venice."

  • "I love this character filled restaurant and its delicious classic Italian food. I had a party of 10 people and it was easily accommodated - I asked for the patio so we could spread out if others joined us. After dinner, we headed into the bar for a night cap and enjoyed a small trio of live music. Great time had by all"

  • "Wanted a good meal in a nice setting early on NYE. Old Venice hit the mark on all desires including some surprises - found a sparkling pinot grigio which was just perfect with my companion's fish special - an excellently prepared corvina and my vegetable risotto."

  • "Been a loyal customer of Old Venice for 20 years.. I have always had a terrific dining experience and for that reason, I continue to go back! We have even celebrated numerous large dinners here and have never been disappointed .. Chef George is outstanding and will even prepare "off the menu" items! How cool is that?"

  • "All in all very nice dining experience, food, service, ambience. We sat outside where is it much quieter. Being a larger party, we could enjoy conversation. Server was helpful with tasters of wine to help with decision in ordering a bottle. Pet peeve, we were directed to the bar to wait for our table. There were clearly tables available for our party of 5. We had reservations and we were early by 5 minutes."

  • "Maybe it is because of our age, but we found the place too noisy for us, with many young kids crying and a lot of moving around from one piece to another by a closed door. If it is the same business, why put a door there, or leave it opened!!"

  • "We actually did not stay - the restaurant is very small and it was so loud, I couldn't stand it. They tried to find us a table outside, but nothing available. Too bad. I had heard from friends that it had good food."

  • "The main dining room was small and the tables are very close. It was too dark to read the menu and it was so loud my ears were ringing. My food was very good and the perfect amount was served. The waitress was very nice. I couldn't finish my delicious shrimp because it was too dark to see where the shells were. I might try the bar next time, but I will not be going back to dine."

  • "Perfect spot for our anniversary dinner. The service was wonderful. Chrissy was our waitress. She was very attentive without being intrusive. Haven't had that quality of service in a long time, and we go out a lot! All staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. Had the cheese board and coordinating spreads which were fabulous. Salad and main course were fresh and flavorful. Prices were high for a non-special occasion but, for a special occasion, well worth the price considering the great service and romantic setting."

  • "I used to go to the OV years ago when I lived in Pt. Loma and had a sailboat at Shelter Island, then again for awhile right after the big remodel; but it's been years since then. The other night, on a whim, we ate dinner there, and you know what? It's still great! I had a Caesar salad and the La Regine (seafood in a tomato sauce over black linguini). It was very good!"
