Diner Reviews
  • "Planned proposal after dinner. The food was great and the people were very accomadating. We will be back for sure. Best seafood in downtown Minneapolis for sure."

  • "Wonderful evening, great server Jamie, fabulous food, will attend again thanks to Food Week."

  • "The place has a nice vibe - sort of upscale, but they're not snooty about it and won't turn their nose up at patrons who show up in shorts and a t-shirt. It's more of a business casual place and accommodates everyone from families to business groups to date nighters. It's hard to find good seafood in the Midwest, but if you can't get to PEI or Boston or Maine, just head downtown to Oceanaire. Their clam chowder isn't as good as the stuff on the East coast (sorry, Oceanaire), but their crab cakes are fabulous. They also have fresh, raw oysters to satisfy my seafood cravings."

  • "We arrived early to grab a drink at the bar. When we checked in, they insisted that we be seated at our table instead of allow us to get a drink first. They sat us at a make-shift table by the bar. You could see that they set up a couple tables in the bar area, put table cloths on them and were treating them like standard reservation tables instead of the bar tables that they were. These make-shift tables were right in the main walkway between the actual dining room and the bar so we were constantly getting bumped and in the way. We didn't have a waitress, one of the bartenders would come and take our orders. They were nice, but they were the bartender. Our food was always brought out by a random kitchen worker who didn't say a word to us."

  • "Crab cake appetizer good. Only 2 oysters. Guess I didn't know how skimpy restaurant week portions are. Main entree good. Not a fan of the desserts at all."

  • "We went for resturant week and were not disappointed! The food was delicious and my husband and I enjoyed everything on their menu. I had the crab cake to begin and my husband had oysters. Being from the east coast, I was concerned that the crab cake would not live up to my expectation. Nothing could be further from the truth! My husband has the soft shell crab--fried beautifully! I had the marlin and it was fantastic! It was prepared perfectly and not overwhelmed in sauce. We had exceptional service from Doug. He made the experience extra special with his friendly service and just the right level of presence. He and Oceanaire understand that resturant week is an opportunity to cultivate new customers and we will go back."

  • "The parmesan encrusted cod was the best choice for the evening. Salmon was good as well. Had the corn side dish but next time would go with one of the potato choices. Definitely split the side dish between two or three folks."

  • "The service is second to none. Thank you, Claudia!"

  • "My family of 5 ate here on a Saturday night. We had the best service, full of explanations and recommendations. We each had a different fish and they were alll fresh, well prepared and tasty. Great experience!"

  • "Special evening for my wife’s birthday with a “Happy Birthday” greeting at the desk, birthday wish with her name printed at the top of our menus. Food and service both 5 stars. Our server keeping track of the time for us to get us to the Guthrie Theater on time, we always have an excellent experience there."

  • "We had such a great experience our first time dining at the Oceanaire a few years ago. Wanted to try the new location. Was surprised at how "energetic" it is compared now. Tables are almost on top of each other. Even when we were being taken to out table it was like a game of dodge ball with wait staff trying to get to tables in narrow walkways. We did have a wonderful lobster special. Not so sure we would go back for the regular menu and price compared to the value of what we would like to be a more romatic evening out. We must be getting old. LOL!"

  • "We enjoyed an exceptional dining experience @ Oceanaire this past Friday evening. The service was professional but friendly, helpful with menu choices and wine selection. Their crab cake is the gold standard for all crab cakes. The shrimp cocktail is huge shrimp poached in a seasoned broth, chilled, making the shrimp exceptionally good. The lump crab cocktail was generous & contained huge lump crab pieces in a lettuce cup. The oysters were the plumpest oysters I have ever been served. They were cold on a bed of ice and each contained their natural liquor still in the shell. The 2 pound lobster was excellent and the halibut, pan sauteed was perfect. The fresh fruit, berry and peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream topped the meal."

  • "Four of us went for lobster night. It was crazy in there. I felt they did a pretty good job of dealing with the crowd. The food was very good. My biggest gripe is $30 a bottle on corkage. Sorry, that's just too much. Fine if you want to charge that total when we have 2 bottles, but not $60 bucks."

  • "We both had lobster. It was perfectly prepared. Excellent taste! We had a great waiter, Charles. He was very attentive and did a wonderful job removing our lobsters from their shell. We will be back!"

  • "Came with a group of six for happy hour and then dinner. Great setting for good times with friends. Service, food and prices for happy hour were all very good. Dinner was also excellent with good price and great service -- took advantage of the $35.95 2lb lobster special. Will definitely be back with friends."

  • "We were amazed at the lobster service for this special lobster dinner. We had to request several times for crackers and to prepare it ourselves. They did not even have lobster bibs or crackers to use! We have never had lobster where it was served for us as the norm. And we are from NYC! The oysters were superb."

  • "The Oceanaire is the perfect place for that very special occasion. They have a large variety of fresh seafood to choose from along with steaks. The crab cakes are ALL crab and delicious. The service is impeccable. The noise level was a bit loud making conversation with your table mates and the server difficult. We felt it was more from the background music not from the other diners. The bill was hefty but the quality and service were superb!"

  • "What better way to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary? Great food. Great Service. Memorable evening."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "The last time I had eaten here they were at their previous location in the Hyatt. The move updated the space to a much more modern décor and that has caused it to become very loud I would not recommend this for any one where the conversation is important as I could not clearly hear my table mate's unless they raised their voices. Something that I do not remember needing to be done at the old location. Food was great device was great just miss the more elegant ambiance in the old location"

  • "Not only did we get great service, this restaurant remembered the last time I booked through open table. The server had my name and the date, and thanked us for returning. Fabulous food and service."

  • "This was our first time at the restaurant since they relocated and we were pleasantly surprised. The service, the food and the menu options were great. We also liked the restaurant layout. It was open and comfortable. We would definitley go back again."

  • "We enjoy Oceanaire as we are sea food lovers. The menu choices are extensive and the wine list is superb. Our waitress Claudia was very attentive, well informed and made our dining experience relaxing with her helpful suggestions. Our choices were lobster and swordfish both of which were prepared well and delicious. The Caprese Salad and Spicy Calamari appetizer were quite good We look forward to returning many times and likely will take advantage of restaurant week as well."

  • "The quality and quantity of food did not warrant the high price. My salmon was very good but not worth $32.00. My wife's lobster was okay but certainly not worth $75.00 (her words, not mine.) The ambiance was just okay. As requested, our booth was in a "quiet area" which, in this case, means as far across the room as possible from the noisy bar. It was Friday night--the bar was jammed and loud. The service was outstanding. With a single crab cake appetizer, dinner, a glass of wine, one bourbon, and a 15% tip, our tab was nearly $200.00."

  • "There dinners are awesome but if you can find a spot on the bar or the patio between 4pm and 7pm Mon - Fri you will score amazing happy hour deals on a wide variety of drinks and appetizers!"

  • "Excellent customer service and lunch. My group ordered the following: Shrimp Louie Salad - Great salad if you like thousand island dressing. I would recommend getting the dressing on the side. Also, it would be helpful if the menu provided a written description of what is in this salad. Crab cake sandwich - delicious. I didn't realize this came with shoe string fries, wish I would have ordered a healthier side dish option. Red Trout with potatoes - this dish looked delicious."

  • "Starting with the relish tray and sourdough bread, the creative and delicious seafood entrees, and ending with a flaming baked Alaska, the food was excellent. What made Oceanaire even more special was the service. Our server was honest, funny, extremely quick and a very nice person. We had never been there before and he was very knowledgeable and open about recommending menu items and steering away from some items. We had a lot of fun with him throughout the evening."

  • "Be prepared for a secondary table if you are using Open Table. Booths were open but "reserved" and unused during our dining. Birthday touch was very nice. Food was very good."

  • "Delicious food, excellent service, but pricey. Disappointed that a wine and oyster special that was advertised one week earlier was not honored."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "The atmosphere was fun but not too loud....This was our first time here and the food was pretty good overall. I had a larger bone in the fish I ordered and my husband's tuna got cold quickly...Other than these couple issues, the food was excellent and a great experience!"

  • "My wife and I had dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The staff was aware of the special event and commented on our special occasion at every turn. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, our server was top notch and all in all the entire evening was memorable. I would recommend experiencing the Oceanaire Seafood Room to anybody. The have nurtured a culture of service excellence."

  • "First time I had ever been to this restaurant, but won't be my last for sure. The food was awesome, and the service was top notch as well. The restaurant was very clean and was arranged nicely. The wine list has some very nice wines to pick from for every type of food. I would recommended this restaurant to anyone."

  • "Had heard for many years about how Oceanaire was one of the best seafood places in the Twin Cities so we came with very high expectations which happy to say were exceeded!! Incredible food."

  • "Two visits to the current location of Ocean Air in one month and we are hooked! We had two stellar experiences. The food was amazing and plentiful. Every dish was prepared with care. The service is top notch. The noise level is very acceptable. We can not stand dinners at places where one can not hear the conversation at a table of 6….. no matter how wonderful the food. It is the whole experience we desire. And this is A+ down the line. We … will… be … back."

  • "We have had good experiences in the past at Oceanaire and the food is good. However, our waiter (Dave) was indifferent and aloof. We are not high maintenance diners, so I don't know why he had such an attitude. He ruined the experience and we won't be returning"

  • "Our one year anniversary was amazing thanks to Oceanaire! It was romantic and fun, our server was OUTSTANDING! The food, the service, the host, everything was great and we highly recommend Oceanaire! It was a beautiful evening filled with great wine, delicious food and great experiences from trying new food!"

  • "I don't mind spending money for good seafood. Oceanaire is heavy handed cooking and way over priced! The portions of seafood are tiny and it's al carte. The expensive side dishes are bad. I will not dine there again."
