Oceanaire Seafood Room - MinneapolisBirthday CelebrationWhat a wonderful restaurant to celebrate a special occasion! The food...lobster, asparagus, sour dough bread was spectacular! John, the server made us feel so comfortable and special...even served a surprise flaming Baked Alaska. Also, he took pictures of the occasion!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's DayGreat menu options for Mother's Day. Will need to go back for dinner vs. brunch5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOKI had a favorite-walleye Florentine, which in the past has been amazing. However I'm afraid it was just not up to par this time. Everything else was fine.
The service was excellent as always, from the moment we walked in to the time we left.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Required TasteGreat food, top of the line service, excellent presentation of the food. Class act on dishes that would best suit your personality. Patience in dealing with double minded clients. This restaurant is an experience you want to be apart of. I have left the biggest tip over scale in my life at this establishment .5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyable dinnerWe came here to celebrate a birthday. Service was excellent. We ordered appetizers including calamari and Hawaiian tuna poke. These were really good. The fish entrees were fresh and tasty. The mahi mahi louie was great. Desserts are wonderful and the portions are very generous. We dined here a couple of months ago and wanted to return for special occasions. We'll be coming back again.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's DayMy family went to Oceanaire for Mother's Day and we had a wonderful time. Service was fantastic, There were special menu items for brunch. the bloody Mary was Delish, crab cake Benedict was amazing (but the was just a little too much sauce... I would ask for just a little), caramel roll was perfect and the hashbrowns were yummy but on the spicy side.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely superb! The food was excellent and in generous amounts. The prices were a little high, but I thought fair, given the quality and quantity of the food. The wait staff was pleasant, friendly and helpful. We will definitely be repeat customers!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place for DinnerThis was our first time at Oceanaire, but it won't be our last. It starts with valet parking at below-market rates for downtown evening dining. Our table was waiting for us, as we were on time. The waiter could describe the characteristics of different wines, even different vintners of the same type of wine. The menu changes daily, based on the seafood market. We had a hard time deciding what to order, because there were so many wonderful choices, from a mussel dish that would make a one-dish inexpensive meal to a huge lobster. We settled for a Mexican shrimp ceviche, haddock with an Oscar touch and crab cakes. They were all wonderful, with huge chunks of crab in the cakes, just like in Maryland. Creme brulee was the perfect finish.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Anniversary dinnerMy husband and I made reservations for our anniversary. They greeted us with an anniversary wish upon arrival and informed us they were running behind. We took a seat at the bar and enjoyed a delicious cocktail while we waited for our table to be ready.
We had a romantic booth and a great server. The food was delicious - Caribean Mahi Mahi "Louie" style, creamed corn, lobster mash potatoes. They also brought us a Baked Alaska for our anniversary. This is the one thing we were a little confused on....bc our server brought it without us ordering, so we figured it was on the house. Then we got our bill, and we were charged for it. Not a huge deal, but we were not going to order dessert - and if we had, we would have picked something else.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe good:
High quality foodThe good:
High quality food well prepared
A ratio of staff to customer that's almost 1:1
The bad:
portion sizes vary wildly. I got a filet mignon that could fit in a coinpurse, and a slice of cheesecake that wouldn't fit in a briefcase.
I feel bad even mentioning the portion thing, as we had a fantastic time, but asking about portion size is very important at this place.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMClass Act!My husband and i went to Oceanaire on a rainy night before a show at the Guthrie and enjoyed a beautiful meal.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA+++++++Food was excellent. Everyone minus the hostess (the reason I gave 3 star for service) was incredibly friendly and polite. The menu featured a good mix of entree's and several smaller options for the small eaters. I took my wife for her birthday and they were very accomidating, personalized menu and free dessert. I will be going back again, this I can promise.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was super busy on SaturdayIt was super busy on Saturday night. My husband's steak was way too rare and cold, so we sent it back and they fixed. My crab dish was okay - but not served hot. I was too hungry to send it back so I ate it.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply the BestOutstanding food and service. We got a table in the bar which was fine for us, but I can't comment on the noise level in the dining room. We enjoyed some raw oysters to start, which were super. Between the four of us we order the warm water lobster tail, the arctic charr, the barramundi and the scallops and there was nary a complaint in the bunch. Our server Jessica was super fun and very knowledgeable. Will definitely return.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful evening,We had a wonderful evening, hosting a special birthday dinner for a very special friend. It couldn't have turned out better. My very favorite Twin Cities seafood restaurant, by far. World-class service and food.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the first time atThis was the first time at the new Oceanaire location and we really enjoyed our special Easter dinner. We are hosting a German Student for two weeks and he loved everything about the experience. My husband and I are looking forward to taking advantage of the outdoor area this summer.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect!Prior to visiting Minneapolis, we read great reviews and were excited for our first experience at the Oceanaire. It was a quiet night, and our server Chuck was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, funny and friendly. We ran the gamut of the menu, starting with Chuck's help to get the most out of the oyster bar, and finishing with the bread pudding and banana cream pie, and everyone at our table was completely satisfied with every course. We will definitely be back!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding service, qualityOutstanding service, quality of sea food exceptional, will be back again without a doubt.
The dinner was wonderful, I could not think of a better way to celebrate my wife's 52nd birthday, our waiter was fantastic, you should be very proud to have staff that is so attentive and knowledgeable, his recommendations were above and beyond.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I went here onMy wife and I went here on our first date and we just revisited it last weekend 10 years later. We weren't nervous this time so we were able to concentrate on the food a bit more. It was ridiculously good. We had the escargot for an appetizer. Main courses were the halibut for me and the crab cakes for her. Side order of asparagus with moscato to drink. It was all delicious. Our waiter was Chuck and he knew who our previous waiter was from years ago and said he would pass on a message to him. The only drawback is the price, but that is something you are going to have to pay if you want ocean fish this fresh in MN. Do not let the price stop you from having a special occasion here though, it will definitely be worth it.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous Spot for a Date NightI took my boyfriend here for his 30th birthday and we had an amazing time! When they called to confirm my reservation I stressed the importance of a nice quiet area for our dinner and they did not disappoint. We sat in their barracuda room, where there was a small family group for a birthday and two other couples. It was much more quiet in this room than the main dining area. Our waiter, Chuck, was fantastic and we couldn't have hoped for better service! He knew the menu very well and had great suggestions on oysters, and he even pulled the big barracuda down off the wall and asked if we'd like to hold it and have our picture taken. We plan to go back once weather is warm enough for outdoor seating and to try their happy hour as well.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth a try :)Excellent service and excellent food. Tried the Tuna and Asparagus appetizers, the Clam Chowder and Beet Salad were both phenomenal, the entree's were also amazing, and last but not least the Banana Cream Pie desert is out of this world! A little pricy, but no regrets.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMHave a special event? To me going to Oceanaire is a special event. Whomever you bring there will feel special. It is not inexpensive and a bit overpriced....but, the service is very good and the food is good. I love the new bar. Though I like the new location, I miss the old location that look and feel. Be sure to use the valet...I felt that was well worth it.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent, especiallyThe food was excellent, especially the crab cakes. I would also get the Chocolate Martini again.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I took our daughterMy wife and I took our daughter to the Oceanaire to have oysters for the first time. We knew it was spendy and thats why it was our treat!!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMInitially, I was taking aInitially, I was taking a back. The afternoon of my/our reservation the hostess Kira (sp) called, she left a voice mail requesting a return call, yet never stated the reason why, nor did she provided a call back number. Additional training would be beneficially for the young lady. When I did return the call, an other person answered, I said I was returning a call but I was not sure as to why. She asked me to hold the line, and now it was Kira. I advise, again I was returning a call for which I was not sure why. She sais, “Oh you must be our 4:30p reservation, I wanted you to know we do not take reservation for Happy Hour.” Puzzled and offended, I advise the young lady we were coming for supper, and if that was a problem we coul3/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
