Norio’s Steakhouse & Sushi Bar
Featuring authentic, traditional Japanese cuisine and stellar sushi. Our Sushi team brings a level of experience and quality to the Big Island normally associated with the better restaurants in Tokyo. Our 14-seat custom sushi bar provides an 'up close and personal' culinary experience. Chef Darren Ogasawara's menu reflects a reverence for traditional Japanese delicacies, especially the exceptionally fresh seafood that he hand-selects daily. Our philosophy is simple -- use the freshest products of the highest quality and prepare them simply to highlight their unique flavors and characteristics. Located near The Orchid Court restaurant on the Garden Level beneath the Lobby, main dining area and private dining room overlooking a serene koi pond. Evening dining.   • "Went there last week for dinner at sunset with our 2 teens. In Denver, we have some pretty decent sushi venues, but this was truly great. Started with fun sake tasting flight....sea weed salad was a unique triple taste presentation. Ono and toro sashimi : thick slices and out of this world...right off the boat. Transitional space gives a nice outdoor feel. Rolls were assembled expertly and generously. If you are a sushi fan, do not miss this when on the Kohala Coast!"

  • "Norio's was a big disappointment. Don't waste your time or money here. There are so many better options. Sadly, the rainbow roll and the spicy hamachi roll were very ordinary. We've had better grocery store sushi for a fraction of the price. The tempura batter was way too thick on the dragon roll, so much so that the shrimp was hard to detect. And the pieces of avocado on top were nonexistent or mere slivers. We tried Monstera for sushi earlier in the week and were very happy with the food and service."

  • "The sushi was fantastic, I think my coworkers enjoyed their steaks. The negative of our experience was that when we tried to get a table (the other on-site restaurant was full so the hostess called over to Norio's, and was told they were also booked for another 2 hours)-- we were not able to. That is, until I checked my Open Table app and they were wide open. We booked the table thru that and were seated with no discussion about the reservation. The down side was that we were seated in the back of the restaurant, inside, with no view. I think it is disingenuous for the restaurant to play these reservation games, especially with guests staying at this pricey hotel. Luckily the service was good and I loved the hamachi/avocado appetizer."

  • "My husband and I had sushi and tempura at Norio's. Both were good but not good enough to justify the cost, particularly the shrimp tempura. A really good tempura should have an ethereal batter. Norio's was heavy and tasted of oil and it was expensive. The sushi was better but not expertly made. My husband's soft shell crab roll was loosely rolled and came apart. My spicy scallop roll was so heavily sauced that I could not identify it as scallop. While I expect resort food to be pricey, I also expect the quality to be superior so this fell a little short. But, given some of the other choices at Fairmont which can be even more expensive, it isn't a bad choice. Just stick with simple, less expensive menu items."

  • "We have had breakfast,lunch,brunch and dinner here as we are staying at the resort. It has not been crowded with a wait once.Yet it seems busy when you really look.the layout helps to do this. there is the patio and dinning by the pond as well as inside at the sushi bar etc. Have enjoyed every meal nice wine selection including Saki.Last time Chef made up plate with fresh fish of Nigiri/sushimi magnificent. Calamari was wonderful.Only issue was the wooden chopsticks which must have been raised before as when I asked for a nicer pair she found them. Small detail but I like nice utensils when I eat."

  • "I have never had bad food in Hawaii in the 5 years in a row that I have been vacationing in Hawaii, but sadly Norio's fell in that "bad meal" category. I dined at Norio's last year and it was fantastic. But it went down the tube since then. While the service was very friendly, it was slow and completely disorganized. The fish was definitely not fresh, and was actually quite smelly - the same horrible smell that was hanging around the sushi bar, where I dined. In addition to the poor quality of the fish, the portions were ridiculously small, especially for the price being charged. I also overheard a lady at the other end of the sushi bar complaining to the waiter about the shrimp tempura being soggy. Pretty telling!"

  • "Norio's would get a solid Very Good to Excellent rating were it not for the fact that the place feels like an after thought in the hotel design. Based on the quality of the food and service, Norio's deserves to have a well designed Japanese sushi and steakhouse space rather than occupying the space that provides breakfast for the hotel guests. The Fairmont doesn't usually make this kind of mistake. Our sushi dinner, with a tasting of three sakes, was excellent. Our server was congenial, well informed about the food and drink, and very attentive. It was an altogether very good dining experience which could have been far better if it weren't in a space that did not compliment the kitchen's efforts."
