Diner Reviews
  • "I'd been wanting to try nopa for months and got lucky enough to book a brunch reservation only a few days in advance. I was a little surprised at how limited the brunch menu was but everything we ordered was phenomenal. Cant wait to go for dinner."

  • "Our daughter goes to USF and we found this restaurant in the neighborhood and could not have been more pleased. The Food was excellent the first time and every time afterwards. We have had Brunch ( get the French Toast ) Lunch and Dinner there numerous times and have never been disappointed. The only downfall is parking, but that's all over San Francisco. Also make sure you make reservations in plenty of time, there is always a line out the door, come rain or shine."

  • "Nopa's food and service is always exemplary. This is one of those dining experiences you want to share. Nopa starts with seasonal locally grown organic fruits, vegetables, dairy and meats and transforms them into rustic delights. All of their baked goods are prepared in house as well as their wonderful deserts. Even their condiments and pickled items are produced within. They prepare one of a kind cocktails, and have a well vetted wines, beers and spirit offering. I have been introduced to wines and spirits from lesser known producers which match their food perfectly . Nopa's servers are attentive, knowledgeable and can suggest good food and beverage pairings. Good tasting food is the Nopa experience. We return as often as we can."

  • "First time I went here, I wasn't that impressed. But the second time I went, the food was amazing! I never tasted such flavorful brunch food until Nopa. I definitely recommend it for brunch (and be sure to get the french toast). Two tips: 1) Reserve weeks in advance, as they book out fast and aren't flexible with adding extra people to your table, etc 2) The place is a bit squeezed/tight on seating, so they once seated my boyfriend and I in the middle of the restaurant with a family of four, which was a bit awkward. So I suggest requesting seating upstairs or against a wall or window."

  • "NOPA is the best we celebrated my Auntie's Birthday and had a blast. Food always amazing, service above and beyond, drink yummy and such a vibrant restaurant full of good energy. One of the host even blessed Auntie with some take home truffles and a surprise and gift. Our Waiter also brought out a small ice cream dessert and candle for Auntie so we can sing Happy Birthday. This was the second time I visited and its always a hoot. Me and the Hubs had the Duck Confit it was delicious and I would order it again. Also the Blue Bottle Martinis are delicious but be prepared to stay up all night unless you get the decaf."

  • "Was expecting to love this restaurant and didn't :( great atmosphere but the food was disappointing. I think this is a place that you should order the burger. With the open kitchen concept we could see the majority of plates being served were burgers. Had black cod and rotisserie chicken.Chicken was good but the mix of flavours on the small plates and the cod was not great."

  • "Couldn't have planned this any better! We made the reservation the day of - which I don't recommend waiting to do. Don't know how but there was a spot for two available that we took advantage of. Food was beyond great - and our view was unbelievable. We were on the second level at a table overlooking the kitchen area. We got to see most the food we were debating being made right below us - a must try if you can get that table."

  • "We went to so many different place on this trip. We thought Nopa was the best out of Flour + Water, French Laundry, Incanto, Crustaceans, Frances, and Coqueta. Everything was so great. All of our small dishes were flavorful from the small fishes, to the grilled bread with avocado, to the brussel sprouts. We hope to go again in the near future!"

  • "everything is so good!!! we had not eaten here for brunch until now, but the custard french toast was killer, and the baked egg was divine. seriously, i heard heavenly trumpets while eating here!"

  • "NOPA was delicious. I had some reservations about trying the rabbit because I don't like anything too gamey, but NOPA absolutely knocked it out of the park. I don't have anything negative to say about the food at this place, but I should warn you that there seems to be a lot of cheese used in many of their dishes."

  • "Disappointing. I was really expecting the food to be better! Way too much paprika-it completely overwhelmed the food. Maybe the chef smokes and no longer has any tastebuds?"

  • "Took my boyfriend to NOPA last week on a Thursday . Greeted with happy people at the door. The bar staff was open and friendly Drinks were awesome!! Then we sat and our server was kinda flat In personality and spoke very low... We had a hard time hearing him. He came off a bit robotic and never once smiled... Non the less, The food was AMAZING!!"

  • "Foodies from Chicago visiting SF -- we enjoyed every dish we ordered. We booked our reservation exactly 1 month out and were able to nab a reservation for a party of 6 on a Friday evening. The food was creatively presented and delicious. The portions were ample for the price points -- a great value. I think we ended up spending about $55 per person including tax and tip -- that was with a bottle of wine and a number of cocktails. We LOVED LOVED LOVED the smoked rainbow trout with quinoa appetizer. I'd go back the next time I visit SF for sure!"

  • "I've been here for 4 times within 3 months and never been disappointed. Consistency is one of the strongest quality of this restaurant. They know what they are doing. I recommend to reserve the upstairs so that you can enjoy the ambience more. I prefer here to Chez Panisse in terms of the food."

  • "We had a delicious meal at Nopa. We sat on the mezzanine with a great view of the restaurant below. Although it was crowded the noise was not too bad and we could hear ourselves talk. The appetizers and main courses were excellent. I highly recommend it!"

  • "Food, wine and service were perfect but we tought that the restaurant was a little bit too noisy...except that great restaurant, I will recommend it for sure!"

  • "I have read some reviews where people have said that the service was bad. Not at all. Our waiter was prompt helpful and made great recommendations. We asked the chicken was too much for one and he said, yes, we ordered a few appies, which were all great and the chicken, well yes, enough for three. If you are a table of four, order the chicken to share and, maybe one main or a bunch of appies. The chicken was great. The flavour was throughout the meat and tender. I truly appreciate the servers advice on the chicken we have been to so many other places where the meal arrives and we can barely finish our mains because they are huge servings. The one main allowed us to try desserts. I hate rice pudding but not theirs, very special."

  • "Tried several appetizers and my main course was black cod. How they put so much flavor in each dish is a mystery to me? Every bite was an explosion of fresh ingredient flavor! The wait staff was extremely friendly & hip. With all the talk of this place I expected attitude which couldn't have been farther from the reality."

  • "We really enjoyed the brunch here. The french toast, egg dishes and cocktails were all great. The coffee could be served just a bit hotter was my only complaint. Otherwise everything was great."

  • "We had reservation for 10:15 but hungry so arrived early 9:15 but friendly and found seats for us in their crowded restaurant. Food from wood burning oven outstanding including flatbread hand made with garlic smear, bacon, panna, mikake mushrooms, thin crusted and delicious. so was Veg Tanngine & Moist Rotisserie chicken"

  • "French toast is to die for; good aerial view of the kitchen and busy crowd if you're seated on their mezzanine; quite noisy as it is always packed. Reserving is a month in advance but when I did that exactly a month before (as early as 8am) for supposedly Valentine's dinner, no more tables available! Ridiculous! We still hope to try dinner next time, if we are lucky enough to find a table."

  • "Underwhelmed. An off night? The brussels sprouts were excellent. Nice char, not overcooked, worked well with just a hint of horseradish. The pickled beets were unremarkable. Also had the goat cheese, but it had a sandy, dry texture. My hamburger came well done (requested med rare) with cool fries. Sent them back. The next burger was med rare, bland beef; not even the salt helped. Came with hot fries (which I didn't finish - not that interesting). My companion had the cod and thought it was overcooked (stringy), but very much liked the veggies-whatever-they-were that came with the dish. The Meyer lemon tart: too many rinds and not enough of the tart. - we didn't finish it. Service started well, but dragged to the finish line."

  • "Notes: Nopa has a pretty crazy wine list compared to the size of their menu The Brussels sprouts were delicious, though the horseradish could have packed a better lunch The blue bottle cocktail (sub bourbon in place of vodka) is a must have any time of day Service was friendly but a little distracted Restaurant can take a long time to turn over tables so prepare for a nice long meal"

  • "This was our third visit to Nopa and this time we were celebrating our daughter's birthday. Overall it was very good. I can't rate it outstanding since we did not love all of our dishes. We definitely enjoyed the flatbread and butter bean appetizers. We also liked the vegetable tagine and black cod entrees. Unfortunately, our daughter did not like her cannelloni entree (sauce was too watery) and the spice cake dessert was just okay. Still, the service was excellent and it's a very cool and happening space. We sat upstairs and it was not too noisy at all."

  • "My boyfriend & I ate here one week ago, on a Sunday. We could only get reservations for 10:00. We got there a little early to get a drink at the bar & were seated within 10 min which was nice. Surprisingly the place only got more crowded as the night went on. On a Sunday! The service was great, while we did have a waiter, almost everyone working the floor came to our table at least once which meant we rarely had to wait for anything we needed. The food was incredible, one of the best meals I've had. Because it was late, my bf and I decided to do an app (goat cheese and pear crostini-must recreate) a split entree (moist and tender roasted chicken) and a dessert (chocolate pot de creme with lavender cream & a homemade hot choc). Perfection."

  • "Ambiance was fine. I went there to have their nine hour Bolegnese and found out they change their posted menu at 5:00 each day and the dish was not available. The server recommended the Canaloni instead saying it was an excellent substitute. The serving was made with orange flavoring in the cheese and I thought the flavoring was much too overwhelming and fought all the other flavors in the dish. I complained and was given a desert because of my displeasure.i would not recommend this Resturant at this point. Parking was difficult (no valet either) the explanation for the food change on the menu was to keep it interesting."

  • "Staff was incredibly kind, friendly and accommodating. Had reservations for 10:30, showed up early because a show was so bad we left early. We were seated in no time. The food was amazing! We ordered a bunch of plates and shared them. The goat cheese crostini is a must try!"

  • "I had heard about Nopa recently and how good the food is, especially the burgers. I was with four other people, 2 of which had the burger, 1 had the pork shoulder, 1 the sausage dish and I had the french toast. It was agreed that the burgers were among the best, the sausage was also good but could have used a bit more spice, the pork shoulder was the least favorite and my french toast with the maple butter was a winner. We were seated upstairs which was uncomfortably warm. Maybe a window or more fans? I noticed some guests shedding most of their layers, shoes and whatever else they could take off without getting arrested. Our server was great - helpful, knowledgeable and friendly as was the rest of the staff."

  • "Though actually snagging a reservation can be tricky, the dining at Nopa is definitely worth it! I went with a friend for a girls' night dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine at the bar while our table was being prepared, then had it transferred to the table. We split 4 appetizers (olives w/ bread, the avocado toast, the brussel sprouts and white kidney beans, the and the beignets for dessert). Delicious and the right amount of food for 2 girls! I'd definitely go back.... and probably order all the same things."

  • "There is really nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Everything was great! I enjoyed the hip atmosphere and the starters were fantastic! The atmosphere was great and I love there are two levels! Our waiter was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu which made it easy for me as I tend to be a very picky eater."

  • "Scored a weeknight 8pm reservation at this uber popular restaurant. The decor is modern with high ceilings (2 stories) with an interesting rustic meets industrial feel. If you are hungry, get the 14oz steak or the 2 huge slices of porchetta (pork wrapped in pork belly with bacon in the side mix). the surprise of the night was the quinoa, smoked trout, and beets appetizer. While I was there, I sampled their spirit - a delicious bourbon. Although I enjoyed my dinner there with BF and another couple, I don't know if it lived up to the hype. With so many delicious restaurants in SF, you can eat just as well (quantity or quality) elsewhere. But I can now say I have been to NOPA!"

  • "We had a late night reservation on Saturday night. The food was amazing! Their fries are ON POINT!! Harissa Aoili is awesome. It was actually so good that we immediately booked brunch reservations for 12:15 pm the next day. The French Toast is....indescribable. We were also very pleased with the service and their recommendations. We will definitely be back when we're in the city!"
