Diner Reviews
  • "Really fantastic Italian food! Though you'll find a few staples popular with the casual diner (fettucine alfredo, lasagne), there are some great authentic dishes that you won't find at the Olive Garden. Talented chefs directly from Italy showcase their homemade gnocchi and creamy risotto, and be sure to try the Maialino Mediterraneo - pork tenderloin with Kalamata olives, mushrooms and onions in a red wine/feta cream sauce, served on a bed of perfectly al dente fettucine."

  • "We had reservations on a 90 degree night. We walked in, and without much ado walked out. Why? Because there was no air conditioning on (I saw open windows in a vain attempt to catch a breeze), but worse than that was the smell. Musty, fishy, I'm not sure where it came from (and I love seafood), but all three of us commented on it and left immediately. So I couldn't tell you what the food was like."

  • "Our party of four thought the food was very good. We sat at a booth inside and it was very warm inside the restaurant. The server said it was because of the open cooking area across from us. The majority of the guests were sitting outside; now we know why. As for the service, it was a bit slow but still adequate and friendly."

  • " 7 in the group. Most thought the food was very good. Two had the meatballs. They liked the dish however one of the meatballs was not cooked through in one of the dishes. She asked for another meatball. The waiter came back to say the chef said the meatball was cook and they ran out of meatballs. This was 12:30PM. She was told to reheat the meatball in the microwave if she thought it was under cook. Hard to believe they were out of meatballs. Also one person in the party ordered a salad but was not served until the main course came. I had the spaghetti/marinara sauce with basil. They was no fresh basil, it was dried crushed and little favor. I had to ask if there was basil in the sauce. Not sure I would return."

  • "The food at Nonna Rosa's is always top-notch. The chef's, you can tell, put a lot of love into their fare and it certainly comes out in the myriad flavors. We don't get out a lot having smaller children but when we can get out, Nonna's is always on our list. Robbinsdale has become home to some really good restaurants and this certainly being one of them. It was a little warm in the restaurant when we visited as the A/C must have been out , but again, the food was delicious and the service really good. See ya soon!"

  • "Food was good, service was good, loved that it's essentially in our "backyard" BUT...we went on a war summer evening and it was VERY hot in the restaurant. Whether or not they had A/C, we could not tell at all. I asked about the temp and received a sincere apology and an explanation that "with the open kitchen, it's just really hard to manage the temp..." They do have a patio which we passed on because of the outside heat, but in hindsight, it probably would have been better because at least there was a breeze that evening. That's where pretty much everyone else who came in went...probably repeat customers. :) We'll go back for sure, but probably not until it cools off outside."

  • "The ambiance and service were good but I was very disappointed in the food. Elements of the menu I saw on Open Table were not present in the actual restaurant menu. My date's food seemed to be reheated in the microwave, his pasta was dried out and the dish lacked any real flavor. If you are looking for some authentic, fresh Italian food that can be expected at some of the other small, local Italian eateries this will not be your place."

  • "This was my first visit. I was so impressed with the waiter's knowledge of the menu. She gave us many excellent suggestions. My guest asked for shrimp in her choice (not on the menu), and this was done without any problems. The restaurant is small and intimate, yet I saw families, groups of friends, etc. there as well. Such a warm feeling. The gnocchi were so light and fluffy, definitely made fresh. I will go there again, and will also recommend this to an Italian friend."

  • "This is a very cute smaller restaurant. Perfect to go to if you want to be able to hear each other talk. The wine list is extensive and the food was amazing. We will definitely be returning to enjoy this restaurant again. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food, great wine and wanting to avoid the huge corporate chain restaurants."

  • "Found Nonna Rosa's on the Open Table site. Had a high rating and decided to try it out. It is off the beaten path, but well worth it. I found it to be quaint and a special find. The food was all cooked to order and came out hot and tasty. They had a great wine selection and the painted frescos on the walls were really special. The service was great and we did not feel rushed during our meal. I would definitely go back here again on another trip to Minneapolis. This ones a keeper."

  • "I've been all over Minneapolis looking for great Italian food and I found Nonna Rosa's right in my backyard. The food was outstanding and we happened on Happy Hour with great bar drinks and a $10 bottle of wine. We spent Father's Day there and My husband was thrilled. You really need to check it out, you won't be disappointed."

  • "This is one of our "go to" restaurants. The food and service is always delightful. We are always happy with their seafood and veal dishes. This family run "old world" Italian restaurant is a winner in our book. Loved the white Sangria I tried tonight with my veal. I turned in my "Happy Birthday" coupon and really enjoyed the home made gellato. A lovely evening to celebrate life on their outdoor patio. I do wish they would have traditional crusty Italian bread. Then it would be perfect."

  • "We dined at the restaurant while a relatively large party was going on so perhaps quality slipped due to that? We did not receive our salads or bread. The food we did receive was pretty bland. Experience was pretty forgettable."

  • "My husband and I went here for a date night dinner. Our waitress was fabulous. I discovered the best wine I've ever tasted here. She brought out the bottle so I could snap a picture and told me where I could buy it locally. The food was also very delicious. I would recommend for a date night and would like to come back."

  • "I love pasta and Nona Rosas has authentic Italian dishes it's very good and I recommend this restaurant to my friends. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable with the menu. My husband and I have been going to Nona Rosas for a long time and we always have a great experience when we are there."

  • "My 2nd time to Nonna Rosa's. My niece enjoyed her meal and the restaurant as did I. We were celebrating her birthday/college graduation and I noted that when making the reservation. Our waitress wished her H BDay and acknowledged her graduation. My 2nd trip to Nonna Rosa's and planning to go back in the fall with my golf friends (14) when we celebrate our fall birthdays. I know others who live in the area and they go their frequently. Love the smell of Italian cooking when walking into this fine Italian Restaurant."

  • "Super menu. Hard to choose. My third time back and everyone enjoyed their food too. My friend order the same cioppino dish and it didnt disappoint. As good as she remembered. Wonderful experience start to finish and prices were very reasonable."

  • "Food is adequate - nothing special. Service was the real issue. There were about 4 tables occupied and two servers and service was so slow, we did not even get approached for 10 mins after sitting down. Each time the server came to our table, we knew we would not see her again for another 15 or 20 mins if we needed anything. This place isn't special enough to have such slow service. I'll never go back. In a town where there are so many restaurants, no one needs to waste time at a bad one!"

  • "Very nice experience. I drive by Nonna Rosa's almost everyday but did not have an occasion to try it out until Mother's Day. I figured Mother's Day was a low risk opportunity to see if it was kid friendly. There are off menu kid's options. My 8 year old chose chicken fingers and fries. I was able to squeeze my baby's car seat into the booth. I would take my family again for an early dinner. I would go here with my husband again for a date night. We both ordered hearty seafood dishes that were chock full of mussels, scallops, salmon and calamari. There was a nice fine dining atmosphere: Slightly dim lighting (in a nice way), closely spaced tables, and an open kitchen. I think a little low music would be a nice addition."

  • "I have been here twice and each time the food is great but the service is lacking. The waitresses tend to forget to bring out plates for apps and silverware. The wait time for food is longer than average but is worth it. The overall experience is good, especially if you're having a lunch or dinner to catch up with family and friends. "

  • "This was the worst Italian restaurant I have been to. Even though we had a reservation we waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged and then another ten to be seated. It took an hour for our entrees to come. The food was worse then bad diner food. The chicken with pasta was gloppy. Most of the food was tasteless and heavy and overcooked. The cappuccino was cold. The Cannoli was all shell - a saw dusty shell that was clearly purchased and then filled with a minuscule amount of cannoli cream at the restaurant. We were pressured into paying our bill before we had desert as the waitresses shift was over. She said we could pay now or later but she would have to wait to go until we paid. Avoid this restaurant as the food is horrible."

  • "As always the food was hot and very good. I love their red sauce but always argue with myself over whether to get lasagna or risotto! This time the creme brûlée was to die for too. Also, every time we bring someone new it's a hit, which is fun and a relief!"

  • "I live in Crystal and have been to Nonna Rosa's before with my husband and really enjoyed it. This week I had business partners fly in from out of state and I was tired of the Minneapolis restaurant scene so I chose to go to Nonna Rosa's instead- and I'm glad I did. I had a group of 6. The restaurant has a great ambiance for romance or for business. Our waitress was knowledgeable and respectful and the food was AMAZING. I can recommend the asparagus risotto- always just very well done. The prices are fair, the portions are generous, the wine recommendation went well for everyone at the table, and we all really enjoyed ourselves. The house made gelato at the end was a perfect way to end the evening. "

  • "The food was really good and not overpriced for the portions. On the other hand, the bar really needs an overhaul. I know it just seats six but, they have way too many specialty drinks that take way too long to make and they are not set up to for them. They have too many cordials that just collect dust and take up space. We waited almost 30 minutes for drinks and we were sitting at the bar. I would go back for the food but, the service was just ok. "

  • "This time we went with the kids to celebrate a birthday. There isn't a kids menu but they well make a smaller portion of some of the meals. As usual, the food was amazing! We took home left overs and they were gobbled up the next day; normally, my family doesn't eat left overs. Nona Rosa's has the best Italian food! "

  • "We had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, bit it's a ways from home. So, when they were on the list for the dining out for aids event, we made a reservation. I had a crab stuffed salmon, and my husband had the grilled salmon. Both were excellent! The Cesar salad was excellent and the wine perfect. We will be back."

  • "Love having a place like NonaRosa in the neighborhood. Pleasant, family run, great service. Upscale Italian but still family friendly and not a budget buster. Nice atmosphere. Someday it will warm up enough for them to open the patio back up! Nice to have free parking in the back and the back door to scoot right in."
