Diner Reviews
  • "The ambience sets the mood for a great date night. The wait staff are on top of their game. All it all it was a great time."

  • "I hate to give this place a bad review since I love their skirt steak, however, I must give an honest opinion. The service was beyond horrible. Our server only showed up at our table for two things, taking our order and giving us the bill. As much as I enjoy alone time with my date, I at least expect more service than that if I'm going to tip you. I guess the biggest thing that ticked me off was that we never got refills for our drinks. It's not like we never asked our server for one, it's just that she never showed up until it was time to pay for the bill. All I ask is for the management to figure out a better team of servers. Their skirt steak is the reason why I only come back...occasionally."

  • "This place had OK food but its real appeal is to the university crowd. We didn't try the Hurricanes, something they're noted for. The crab cakes were a bit on the salty side. The pulled pork sandwich was unique. I actually liked the combining of cole slaw in the sandwich and the pulled port was lean but it was served at room temperature (I prefer at least warmed pull port). We ate at 5:30 pm on a Monday so the place was not busy. It had a large number of wait staff and our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. As we were leaving, the place was filling up with customers so it gave me the impression of a fun hot spot for the university crowd. We thought the prices were reasonable."

  • "My family and I get together a couple of times a week to eat and at least once a week we go out. We have, on a few occaisions, eaten at Milagro's in Redwoood City (same owner). Good food, a little noisy and (usually) good service--except on rare days when things don't seem to gel well in the kitchen or on the serving floor. All restaurants have days like that. If you eat out enough, you expect it. We like eating in places that have fewer bad days than good days. We liked Nola! First time there and the food was very tasty, service was friendly and the noise was not so bad. We will definately go back. The owner has a real feel for what customers want--food that is a little edgy, drinks that are different and fast, attentive service."

  • "Dinner was GREAT! Drinks we superb! Dessert was orgamsnic! Server went above and beyond! Had to move to accommodate larger party, management offered us a free round on the house for our minor inconvenience!! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Our group of seven- mothers, teenagers and grandmother- stopped in Palo Alto on the way home from San Francisco. It was a perfect ending to our day at the ballet. We were seated at a quieter table in a side room that was cozy but open to the outside ambience. There's a Mardi Gras feel as soon as you walk in, and we were caught up in the fun. The menu offered a nice variety that suited our varied tastes. We'll definitely return with our spouses."

  • "This is a buzzing place full of energy. My wife & I had initial challenges in getting our waiter to present vegetarian items to us, but the manager took care of us after & we were satisfied. Overall, the food was good. Come here for cuisine that you won't typically find in the San Francisco/San Jose area & for energy."

  • "Service was good (for how busy it was.) The food was great and eclectic. It's a little noisy, but than you are at Mardi Gras :) Sangria was not up to par with the rest of the experience."

  • "Chicken and waffles....mmmmm. Two generous chicken breasts remain moist and give you enough to take one home. Waffles are best eaten at the restaurant. The veggie Jambalaya was wonderful ... the roast Brussels sprouts made this dish."

  • "I had not been back here for about 10 years. It has a fun french quarter mardi gras theme. The bar is small and always packed. The food is consistently good. I recommended the skirt steak with mashed potatoes to several people in my group and it was as good as it was 10 years ago. The restaurant has many corners and can provide an quaint more secluded meal atmosphere and can also accommodate groups for parties. The outside area is in the center of the restaurant and makes your feel like you are in the french quarter. They have very festive cocktails such as the hurricane drink from Pat O'Brians in N'orlans. The raspberry mojito is quite good. This is fun for friends and family. The service was quick, attentive and friendly."

  • "I've been here a few times and their menu need a refresh. I had the ribs, and they were just sort if meh. Still, has a good happy hour and a fun atmosohere."

  • "we got a $50 food coupon/ticket at Costco for Nola. My wife and I have never heard of it before, but decided to give it a shot. We came in at 5pm so we could catch a movie later. The atmosphere was a little relaxed because they just opened (understand able) but seems like a fun place as the night goes on. Half way through our meal the crowd started to come in, even for a Sunday night. We loved the chicken and waffles and Cajun pasta."

  • "I went here for lunch with my parents over parent's weekend on a recommendation and was very pleased with the experience. I had a no-heat-o (virgin mojito since I'm not 21), the jambalaya and the brussels sprout hash. My dad got beef and chicken tacos and my mother went for the chicken and waffles. I was VERY happy with my meal (in particular that hash was something else-- so much delicious goodness, a perfect texture on the brussels sprouts: not too firm but still with a nice chew to them). My parents were happy with their meals, and we were seated on the second floor in an interior area that is open-roofed. There was lots of natural light and the space was perfect. I would heartily recommend to anyone."

  • "I've been to Nola numerous times - it's my son's favorite restaurant and the food is wonderful. Normally, we have a good experience, no matter what. Our last trip (2/21) was mildly marred by the host, who never once smiled (at anyone) and sat us in the back of the restaurant, next to one of the service doors. When I asked him if we could sit at any of the numerous unoccupied tables away from this area I got a brusque negative response that he couldn't change it because of reservations and he dashed off. Really? Apparently our reservations weren't as important as those who weren't even there. Luckily, our waiter was wonderful and the food, as always, superb."

  • "New love. Great find. Awesome location....oh yea. And I couldn't get enough of the food. That skirt steak is delicious. I came into the restaurant full and left stuffed. You got to know the difference between hunger and appetite to really understand how good the food was/is here. Wish I had a bigger belly to eat and drink more. Such gluttony."

  • "Parking was hard to find on a Thursday night, but we lucked out at a nearby parking lot. We'd never been there before and loved the decor, but the noise level was off the charts. We were shown a table upstairs (steep stairs but noticed a lift for people with strollers/wheelchairs) overlooking the open courtyard. The night was very chilly so we ended up wearing out coats. Ordered the alligator boudin bites appetizer--interesting and tasty. Friend had the jambalaya; he likes spicy and the regular and a tiny bit of sauce on the side was plenty warm for him. I had the yummy crabcakes. Shared the red velvet waffle w/ cream cheese icing and vanilla ice cream dessert--good, but needed more chocolate. Might be back if can find quieter time."

  • "This was our second time at Nola's. The choices of food are unique, and the presentation is excellent. It is well worth the time in trying to find a parking space."

  • "Picked this with the help of Open Table when visiting from out of town on business. Great little place to meet up with colleagues for a few drinks and tasty grub. Definitely for the more adventurous pallets as there is a lot of spice on the menu but nothing too crazy. Great cocktails too--both traditional and unique, I enjoyed the ginger smash cocktail myself. It was a Sunday night so it wasn't very lively but our peer from Mountain View said the bar is pretty vibrant on the weekends. Loved the decor."

  • "Jambalaya was amazing! New Orleans would be proud! Perfect w/o the added spice. Besides, you don't put habanero on jambalaya! Haha"

  • "Overall this place has amazing (and very unique) food. Careful with the Gumbo, if you get the spicy, it is SPICY! Our waitress was energetic, but kept taking looooong bouts before she checked in on us. Also, I included in my reservation that I wished to sit on the second floor overlooking the first floor, however when the hostess sat us down, it was in a corner with no view. I asked her to move us and she first had to check if any other tables that overlooked the first floor where open or had been reserved (there where 2 open). I told her I had included that in my reservation and only upon checking did she move us. Hmmm... did you think I was lying?"

  • "I made reservation for a small group for a birthday dinner over two weeks in advance. They were accommodating when I wanted to add one more person to the table (I called the day before). The waiter was ok. A little slow. I could only get a reservation late - (8:45), but people knew and planned accordingly. My biggest complaint was we did nit get seated until 9:20pm and more people were scheduled to come join the night out in the bar at 9:30. It was also pretty loud and hard to hold a conversation. The food wasn't bad, but not great."

  • "As a NOLA girl, I can say it is very hard to do this food with authenticity. The quality of food was good, but the seasoning just lacked subtlety and simply relied on hot. Which, by the way! the food itself was not as the gumbo came out of the kitchen cold. But the wait staff and manager attention to making that right for us was excellent. We didn't have the heart to tell them that the main course, jambalaya, was at best lukewarm. But it's lively and a fun spot to be."

  • "Both in cuisine and atmosphere, Nola's is a microcosm of southern flare and cajun style cuisine in the heart of silicon valley. Any time we have visitors to the Bay Area, this is one of the spots at which we entertain them. Service is fast and friendly. The food is well-prepared, delicious, and just the right portions."

  • "I love this place. Everything is great here. Not quite my mom's Creole cooking, but the closest to her cooking I could find. Thank you for using file powder in the gumbo and not tomato base."
