A word from Nola - Palo Alto
Nola is a bit of New Orleans located in the historic Ramona Street Building in downtown Palo Alto. Our menu consists of Creole, Cajun, and Latin cuisine. New Orleans favorites, such as hurricanes, fresh oysters, gumbo, seafood jambalaya, and étouffée, are just a few of the classics you will find.
The party stretches out over three floors, with seven different funky dining areas. Nola has one of the largest collections of Southern folk art on the West Coast. Come check out what Fortune magazine voted as "the hottest bar in the Silicon Valley." Welcome to the party--grab a Hurricane, a group of friends, wrap yourself in our mardi gras beads and “Laisser les Bon Temps Rouler!!”

Enjoyed a business lunch on a nice day in Nola's semi-open air main room. The Friday special fried oyster po' boy was very good, as was the slaw. The service was good, as well.

The first time my boyfriend and I ate at the restaurant it was a GREAT experience! The food was great as well as the service and ambiance. We just ate there again and the service and ambiance remained the same but the food was different. My skirt steak was perfect but my boyfriend's meal which included ribs and cornbread did not have that much flavor. I am assuming the chef/cook(s) had an off night with cooking. This will not stop us from eating there again.

We had such a wonderful experience at Nola's! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and has such a fun atmosphere. We were sat next to a large table that was celebrating a party so it was quite loud. The service was absolutely fantastic, we had great drinks, and the portions were generous. Would love to come back.

"energetic" does not capture the noise level. It was way too noisy. And the TV screens were on all over the - a major distraction and something that will probably will stop me from going back. Nola's is a sports bar with great food.

I was disappointed in the service at Nola's. We sat for 45 minutes before being asked for our order and then it didn't arrive until 40 minutes later. When the food did arrive, it was ok. I was hoping for amazing- giving the wait I had. I don't think I will travel from South San Jose to visit this restaurant again.

When we arrived, the place was packed due to a college game. The host that seated us didn't engage with us at all. She dropped the menus on the table and spoke to another staff member. She never once spoke to us. Our server on the other hand was very attentive throughout our dinner. I had mentioned on our reservation that this was a special occasion. It was our 16th wedding anniversary. I was surprised no one mentioned it. Other restaurants do.

Our family had a pleasant dinner mid-week, with some dishes enjoyable, but some missed the mark. Ribs seemed as though they were boiled then reheated in the oven, with a forgettable red sauce on them, nothing to commend them. Dirty fries sounded great on the menu but the soggy fried potatoes of all kinds did not stand up to the pulled pork and other ingredients. Pulled pork sandwich much better, good gumbo. Basically a good spot for a beer and something simple to eat. Our waiter was efficient and pleasant throughout at this upbeat, energetic place.

The food at NOLAs is wonderful--Cajunesque California. The decor, funky and vibrant, adds to the fun. But it is too LOUD for more than two people per table. We had a party of seven...and I couldn't hear anyone except the person next to me (not even my daughter who was directly across from me!) The music is so loud that everyone around us was screaming-i heard some of the surrounding tables' conversations better than I could hear my daughter-in-law, who was two people down from me. We asked to have the sound turned down-the table NEXT to us asked to have the sound turned down-a table in the next room asked to have the sound turned down. Again--the food is fantastic, tasty, excellent. The service, great. The sound...too much.

what a great place to dine. I have never had chicken melt in my mouth. My daughter and I shared our meals, she ordered the chicken with waffles, and I blackened salmon I have to say the salmon was so flavorful, i had to check to make sure it was salmon i was eating. My husband and I took our good friends here to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious and the sangria went down smooth. Our waiter was on top of things like water refills and bringing proper knives. We had a lovely experience my one critic would be that the restaurant has TVs all over the place and I'd prefer TVs to be confined to the bar area.

Service was HORRIBLE. Our server was so slow and acted like she did not want to be there at all. Food was ok... The dirty fries are amazing! But my main meal the franks chicken sandwhich wasn't my favorite. We also really enjoyed the blackberry ginger lemonade. We got seated upstairs which after looking around as we were leaving we decided we would have much rather sat downstairs in the bar or lounge area.. It would be nice if the hostess gave you an option. We'll maybe try and give the place another shot and hope the customer service greatly improves.

We met some European friends here for dinner after many years of not seeing one another. I chose it because it had good reviews and it was casual and modestly priced. Other than being quite noisy, thus making conversation a challenge, it was the perfect choice. The food is interesting with many classic Cajun dishes and the atmosphere is casual and unhurried which gave us a lot of time to reconnect (albeit with a bit of yelling.) Since it also has vegetarian and gluten free options, all of the diners could find something notable to eat. Both the regular and vegetarian jambalayas were delicious; and I tried fried green tomatoes for the first time, crunchy and piquant. We also shared appetizers and desserts rounding out our meal perfectly.

Had my first meal here with a first date, her choice. It was the perfect spot for such an event: casual, friendly, great food and margaritas, and not so noisy you couldn't talk and get to know each other. Our hostess put us in the upstairs corner table (How did she know we wanted a little privacy?), and our server couldn't be nicer. A winner.

I wish the music was a bit quieter. I barely could understand my friend talking, even though we were sitting in front of each other. I ordered one dish and a a few tacos for 2 people, as my female friend doesn't eat much and we ended up spending more than what I would expect for two full dishes. $45 for a few tacos and a plate? Really?

I have been dinning at Nola a couple of times before but never had a chance to review. I love the ambiance at this place, where you don't have to whisper, I also love it for the fact that the audience are mix ages and anyone will fit it perfectly. Big menu and great food and oh the wine menu is fantastic too. When I was there before I had the skirt steak and its still stuck in my mind how wonderful it was, this time I order the spicy Paella oh wow it was a hit just perfect for me and the portions are great too, I think there is no bad dish at the restaurants, because it was 5 of us there and I didn't heard anyone complain about anything about their meal and my family is very vocal about anything in general. Its fit any occasion as well.

Disappointed. This "restaurant" is really only a sports bar. It's loud. It's grimy. There are TVs everywhere. The wait staff is cute but not interested in service. The food sounds interesting but it's not. Pretty basic California Cajun. The red velvet waffles are not worth it. Where's the crab in the Crabamole? Both my husband's order and mine were wrong when delivered. He was given the wrong order altogether - belonged to someone else and came out a good 5 minutes before mine. Mine was missing a side dish. We were not offered any compensation for the wait or inconvenience. Our wait person was cute in her "Daisy Duke's" but service with any kind of interest in our experience or even a smile was non-existent.

The food at Nola was just mediocre. The Crabamole was reasonably good guac, but the crab added nothing. The Gumbo was salty yet bland at the same time. The Ahi Taco was oddly flavored, and the fish had a weird tough membrane in it that I've never seen anywhere else. The Crawfish Boil was decent, but served in a plastic bag and underwhelming for the price. The drinks were extremely disappointing. If you go to the trouble of barrel-aging a cocktail, I would expect you would get the actual cocktail right. The Barrel Aged Rye Sazerac was completely overpowered by absinthe and nearly undrinkable, while the Barrel Aged Creole was only slightly better. Neither gained anything from being aged. Not worth a repeat visit.

The noise level was painful. Two out of four in our party got sore throats trying to communicate across the table. I have never had food this bad in New Orleans. My chicken n biscuits appetizer was tasteless. The chicken was tough and dry. The Pillsbury frozen biscuits available at supermarkets are much tastier. The fried catfish meal contained two pieces of fried catfish and one piece of dry and tough chicken. We had great beignets in New Orleans at the Café Du Monde, Nola's beignets were more like poor donuts made in a rectangle. The rest of our party said their food was a qualified OK. Two of us took food home in doggie bags... for the dog. Nola's web site promises "Cajun con fusion". Different does not guarantee better.
