  • "Disappointed. This "restaurant" is really only a sports bar. It's loud. It's grimy. There are TVs everywhere. The wait staff is cute but not interested in service. The food sounds interesting but it's not. Pretty basic California Cajun. The red velvet waffles are not worth it. Where's the crab in the Crabamole? Both my husband's order and mine were wrong when delivered. He was given the wrong order altogether - belonged to someone else and came out a good 5 minutes before mine. Mine was missing a side dish. We were not offered any compensation for the wait or inconvenience. Our wait person was cute in her "Daisy Duke's" but service with any kind of interest in our experience or even a smile was non-existent."

  • "Best fried chicken and waffles I've ever had. Great service, great menu, great everything"

  • "We had a party of 6 for dinner. It was not crowded but was too warm and noisey...just like New Orleans. The food was ok and we had fun, but it is not the type of restaurant that I would go to often. The decorations were fun!"

  • "The food at Nola was just mediocre. The Crabamole was reasonably good guac, but the crab added nothing. The Gumbo was salty yet bland at the same time. The Ahi Taco was oddly flavored, and the fish had a weird tough membrane in it that I've never seen anywhere else. The Crawfish Boil was decent, but served in a plastic bag and underwhelming for the price. The drinks were extremely disappointing. If you go to the trouble of barrel-aging a cocktail, I would expect you would get the actual cocktail right. The Barrel Aged Rye Sazerac was completely overpowered by absinthe and nearly undrinkable, while the Barrel Aged Creole was only slightly better. Neither gained anything from being aged. Not worth a repeat visit."

  • "The noise level was painful. Two out of four in our party got sore throats trying to communicate across the table. I have never had food this bad in New Orleans. My chicken n biscuits appetizer was tasteless. The chicken was tough and dry. The Pillsbury frozen biscuits available at supermarkets are much tastier. The fried catfish meal contained two pieces of fried catfish and one piece of dry and tough chicken. We had great beignets in New Orleans at the Café Du Monde, Nola's beignets were more like poor donuts made in a rectangle. The rest of our party said their food was a qualified OK. Two of us took food home in doggie bags... for the dog. Nola's web site promises "Cajun con fusion". Different does not guarantee better."

  • "We have been to Nola a multitude of times and every time I continue to be impressed. The service is great, the food is spectacular, and the ambiance couldn't get better!"

  • "Dinner was great. Prices perfect for most. A little noisy. Service was v.good, food was slow to come, but was v.busy. Overall 9-10 great find."

  • "Our group size grew to 12 people but Nola was very accommodating and even gave us an earlier reservation on a Saturday evening! We were seated upstairs in Hurricane Alley with another large group which made it a very fun crowd!!! Although a space A/C was on, it still got quite warm and we had to open the windows. Server was great and food came on time! Drinks and food were delicious--two pitchers of saucy’s original sangria were gone! :) ...the spicy jambalaya was the fave for most and the delta crawfish, shrimp and scallop etouffee was mmm-mmm good!!!...Only suggestion is to have some non-spicy gravy available for some folks. Overall, we all had a great time!"

  • "We went with friends for dinner, we got on time and the table was ready, the food was OK, not fantastic, and was over priced. The music was very loud, I asked the waitress twice to lower down the volume, but that did not happen, we had a hard time carrying a normal conversation. I can tell it is a good sports bar as there were cheers from the bar for the game that was on at the time."

  • "The food, service, and ambiance are absolutely wonderful. My family and I have never had an bad experience here, and this is our go to spot for any special occasion. It's also a wonderful hangout to grab a bite and drink after work, or if you just want to have a casual night out with your friends. It's a fun place for adults, but the restaurant provides a family friendly environment for kids tool. I cannot say enough good things about NOLA, and I wouldn't leave Palo Alto without making a stop here first!"

  • "Service was a bit spotty but it was a big world cup gay that day...place became packed, but had to ask for water refills and coffee refills, no big deal, but the food was great!"

  • "We visited actual NOLA a few months ago and the food/environment here made us think we were back on our trip there! Very fun for our anniversary too. Great Hurricanes!"

  • "Great food, love the outdoor courtyard. Our waitress was great and didn't rush us as we just talked and talked. And the peach cobbler was a perfect ending."

  • "We enjoyed some drinks and noshing after seeing the film "Chef." We ordered the beignets and were not disappointed. The trio of sauces with these lightly sugar-dusted pillows of dough were absolutely outstanding. It was a great way to end our evening!"

  • "The location of this restaurant in a vibrant area of downtown is good. The restaurant itself is interesting, lots of different rooms on two levels built around an open-air atrium. Service was fine. The food is not your modern farm-to-table fare, it's more of a New Orleans version of a Chili's menu, lots of deep fried food and sauces. In my opinion, the menu needs updating to reflect the fresher cleaner cuisine that has become more prevalent."

  • "This was our first time at this restaurant so we decided to go to celebrate my son's 20th bday. The Crabmole appetizer was good but it took a long time to arrive. It came the same time our entree came in. My daughter ordered the small plate chicken and gravy-she couldn't eat as it was too dry even with the gravy. She ended up eating part of my lunch. My son ordered the Jambalaya he liked it but he said the portion was small ( I agree). I ordered the skirt steak-it was good but for the price $27.00, I've had better. Will we return? Probably not."

  • "We chose to celebrate our 6 year anniversary with Nola's and were satisfied from beginning to end. The fresh peach mojitos were amazing. The shrimp and grits rivaled that of my Grandmothers. We sat outdoor courtyard on the main floor. Our server, Cam, was attentive and great with the recommendations and suggestions. We will return."

  • "The restaurant has an open air courtyard in the center, and the ambiance is terrific. Food was great, and could be served family style so everyone got a taste! Don't order too much, because you should save room for the dessert sampler!"

  • "We had a babysitter but didn't want to have date night at a stuffy expensive place. Nola's was perfect! Fun, energetic and no kids that I saw. Great food and fun!"

  • "We order some Louisiana standards--gumbo, jambalaya, and beignets--as well as the much-raved-about crab guacamole. Gumbo was lukewarm. Granted, it was a warm evening but please give me my soup hot. If it's too hot, I can let it cool down but there's not much I can do to lukewarm soup to make it hotter. Jambalaya was alright, not note-worthy but not objectionable either. Now to the beignets: I'm sorry but I've had better ones at Disneyland. I was expecting pillow-soft puffs of dough dusted with cinnamon sugar. I got puffs all right but they were ruined by the hard exterior and doughy interior. And don't waste your hard-earned $15 bucks on the crab guacamole. Unless you got a morsel of the crab sprinkled on top, you couldn't taste it"

  • "The food was amazing, the portions were substantial. I had the jambalaya (spicy) and it was perfect. One of my colleagues had the pulled pork sandwich - it was huge. No one left hungry, no one left unsatisfied."

  • "It's a cute place. My fiance and I were scoping it out for a wedding reception. The pictures make it look much bigger than it is, but it's still an awesome reflection of NOLA and we were happy. Too small for a reception."

  • "The 10 ladies who came for Girls' Day Lunch all had a wonderful time. We were seated in a semi-private area that was quiet so we could hear everyone talking from one end of the long table to the other. The food was delicious and the portions very generous for the price. Everyone left feeling very satisfied! Not a good place to go if you're on a diet, though! :-)"

  • "Good for getting some drinks or celebrating a birthday. I came here to catch up with and old friend. But wasn't able to have a great conversation since it was so loud. I couldn't hear what she was saying most of time and were sitting across from each other on a small table for 2 people. It has a "party" atmosphere so probably not a good "date" place either. Drinks and food were not that bad. I would come here again but not for dinner."

  • "What a fantastic dining experience. Our server, Nikki, was amazing. She had great recommendations and paid us great attention. She made the meal that much more amazing. The food was excellent. Great flavor. We often dine in our own neighborhood, but so glad we ventured out. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Fun place! Not too noisy. We could all hear each other perfectly. Food was very good. We loved the tacos under "small plates". Our server, Taylor, was excellent. He was very attentive and informative. It was a perfect place for a group lunch. Love the decor!!!"

  • "Like this place and live in Palo Alto a half mile from here so would be a regular but... I had a bad drink here. Waitress offered to fix but the manager she refused so we just sent back. Seemed petty and short sighted. Soured my perception :("

  • "A bunch of co-workers and I went here for a fellow co-worker's birthday dinner. Needless to say, their Stout on tap was delicious as was the Jambalaya. The atmosphere was fun and loud (we were upstairs by the open ceiling) and it was perfect for relaxing after work and throwing a beer or 4 back. Word to the wise -- if you are grabbing dinner with young children or perhaps your mom/dad, don't ask for the "birthday treat" for your friend. Unless they're REALLY into bananas."

  • "We went to Nola for a large group dinner. There are private rooms available for large groups but in order to be able to reserve one, your group must spend a pre-defined minimum for food and beverages; since our group wasn't going to be able to hit the minimum, we opted for a table in the regular dining room. The service was cheery and professional, and the food was tasty. Nola is always loud, so we were expecting this, but if I were to do this kind large dinner at Nola again, I'd find a way to make the private room happen because the noise level was too loud to carry on a conversation with anyone who wasn't sitting right next to you. I love Nola, and I'll definitely go back, but maybe with a smaller group."

  • "Pitcher of mojitos for $16 was a bargain, shrimp etouffe - true New Orleans delicious, oysters were sweet, service was friendly and efficient. the bar was jumping and the atmosphere was upbeat; great spot to eat and hang out on a hot California evening."

  • "Only had dessert, the bread pudding was really good. Service was OK, nothing worth noting. Place was so loud I thought I should have brought ear plugs. Ambiance is a bit run down, but lively nonetheless."

  • "This was our first time at Nola. We went with friends who have moved out of the country. Thankfully, I asked for a table in a quiet location, which they provided. The restaurant is extremely loud, but we were able to hear each other in the area in which we were seated. We shared 4 small plates: crab cakes, ahi tuna tacos, southern BBQ tacos and grilled artichoke. Two types of tacos was probably not the best idea because it was too much of the same thing, but they were both good. The crab cakes were quite good - large and moist. The artichoke was not as good, so we didn't finish it. Overall, it is an interesting place to come, but we probably won't come often."
