Diner Reviews
  • "Always has such great tasting foods. We have never been disappointed"

  • "I was entertaining a few colleagues from out of town and wanted to take them out for a dinner that "would not disappoint". I was looking to impress by having a good meal and good conversation, not extravagant spending. The selection of appetizers and entrees gave everyone the opportunity to enjoy a southern favorite prepared in an update to date fashion."

  • "A wonderful variety of southern faves "done up." Always good."

  • "Can't wait to go back...food was great, even the grass-fed burgers!! Derrick was a standout service provider and had a smile that shows he genuinely cares about you having a great time!"

  • "The Parm zucchini fries were amazing as were our entrees of Pan fried chicken and Pork Tenderloin. The risotto was crunchy and not very flavorful was my only food complaint. The fried blueberry pie was also wonderful. My only other complaint was when the server asked if we needed change when taking the cash and the bill, which I think is rude. The proper thing to say would be, "I'll be right back with your change." And, if the change is for you, the guest will let you know."

  • "Wonderful restaurant. I have never had a dish I didn't care for! We take out-of-town guests here often and they have all enjoyed the food."

  • "Server was very helpful working with one guest who has very dangerous food allergies."

  • "Delicious food, very good knowledgeable wait staff. Unique menu offerings. Our table tried: the trout appetizer, the Cesar salad, spicy shrimp, the okra salad and the black and blue burger with fries -- all were wonderful. Our waiter was great."

  • "I can always count on New South for my comfort food and consistent quality and service"

  • "We had guests visiting from Paris and had planned a bon voyage lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. We had confirmed reservations via Open Table, but when we arrived at the restaurant there was a sign on the door saying it was closed for lunch. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed and had to drive to another part of town for lunch. "

  • "Five of us dined for dinner at New South on Mother's Day. We ordered four different small plates to start, and we all sampled this delightful assortment. Our entrees were delicious, and I especially enjoyed my pork chop. If you think a pork chop can't be exciting, think again. This one was thick, tender, moist and very flavorful. Coupled with killer collard greens and a great risotto mixture, this pork chop was a real treat. We were not first timers at New South, and once again they lived up to their usual excellence."

  • "Food was bad and service not much better. I expected more from this restaurant "

  • "My wife and I came here a few years ago and it was just okay. On a spur of the moment we decided to go back a few months ago. I don't know what has changed but the food is down right AWESOME! We have been going back there every other week. I get the southern pan fried chicken breast and my wife has gotten the special every time. The pan fried chicken breast reminds me of a dish from charleston. It's very lightly breaded if and served over southern grits and a vegatable of your choice. New south is in or rotation from here on out."

  • "not a big menu...but wonderful southern food with an updated flare. All locally grown veggies and proteins. Fried green tomatoes, mac n cheese, pan fried chicken, collards....all outstanding. Small plates and big plates too! Bread pudding dessert is yummy!"

  • "Always enjoy dinner at New South. The restaurant setting is nice -- not high energy, elegant of romantic but more of the place to go for a comfortable, friendly place. The pulled pork appetizer is great - interesting presentation and the sauce provides a nice gentle kick. We had the Monkfish special and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked and great flavor and texture. The chicken is always good. For dessert, both the blueberry pie and the pecan pie bread pudding are excellent. "

  • "We have lived in Charlotte for 20 years and just Friday discovered New South through Open Table. We had an amazing meal, great service in a comfortable atmosphere. Fried green tomatoes were awesome. Our server was great. Real nice atmosphere at the bar and next time we will come earlier for a drink. Will be sharing our great experience with friends!"

  • "Excellent variety and fresh ingredients makes it a great local restaurant"

  • "Farm to fork fresh ingredients truly make this place special. I had the chicken and waffles; the dish washer could have mistaken my plate for clean. I can't wait to try the pork chops and the shrimp & grits."

  • "Five of us....everyone raved about the food. Service was very good. Serves craft beer and for those under age.....Cheerwine! We will be back...great spot..."

  • "Regional influence present; however, it is subtle in both ingredients and cooking style. Salad of local greens with toasted pumpkin seeds and light viniegrette was one of the best salads ever. Main was good but a bit dizzy with ingredients, which kept me guessing. Interesting menu, we can't wait to go back for more!"

  • "The service was great. I had the shrimp and grits. It was good, not too rich, but a little salty. My friend had the flounder and loved it. The Caesar salad was good but way too much of it. Would have liked a smaller side salad."
    Dined on 3/25/2014
  • "The food was very tasty. Service was attentive. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was not greasy like some southern foods can be. If you are a vegetarian there are many choices for you."

  • "We love New South Kitchen! Great farm to table restaurant with an excellent menu of small plates and entrees. Try the trout dip to start. Nice wine menu, too; not overwhelming but a selection of good wines."

  • "The food was good , but on the high end price wise for meatloaf and turkey dinners. The service was a bit slow but we were not in a hurry."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Food was excellent and all locally sourced. I had the special of mustard encrusted tilefish. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The cheese selection was also good, particularly the white cheddar. Service was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the offerings. Will definitely go back."

  • "My girlfriend and I had a late reservation for valentines day and we both were pleasantly surprised with our meals. We started with pulled pork egg rolls which were tasty, the sauce made it even better. For our main course we had the short ribs and pan fried chicken. We enjoyed them so much we had to share our meals. This is great tasting southern food. The only thing we didn't care for was the mac n cheese. They used penne pasta and the cheese was scarce. Service was slow but it was busy. We are definite coming back."

  • "This is my second trip here think the first time was a one off situation. Bad table twice. The first time was told to make reservations for a better table. Did... Got the same table...The very same table. I don't think I can go back."

  • "We have been to Sunday Brunch here many times. On 2/9 11:15 reservation it had not gotten busy yet so service should have not been slow. We took our time to choose food since it was a different menu since our last visit. Once we ordered, two egg dishes, nothing out of the ordinary, it took more than 20 minutes for the food to come out. It was barely warm, but not as hot as if it had been served immediately after coming off the flat top . I am disappointed in the time it took to get our food as I saw other tables getting their food quicker that came in after we did. Took too long to process our payment as well. One more round like this and we will try Le Peep next door."

  • "The food along with the service has always been very good to excellent. Our one note is that the drinks, in particular the martini drinks listed are a rather small pour for the cost. An ounce or two more please!"

  • "Stone Mountain Grill had great food and service. However, the noise level was extremely high. We could barely hear each other talk during our dinner."

  • "My first time here, and during restaurant week. My wife and I decided to try this place and I went to OpenTable to check availability at 6pm on a saturday night. Couldn't believe they had an 8:00pm reservation available, which I made. When we arrived, the people at the desk said they had our reservation but the reservation system had a glitch and the 8pm slot was already filled but they would work us in. They, Renee & Dillon, (I think) were very nice to accommodate us. But 35 min went by, and the hostess said the manager will buy us a drink for the waiting time. Five minutes later, we were seated at a great table. The waitress was great and the food was wonderful. We will be back and recommend New South restaurant , thanks to Renee."

  • "Menu has unusual choices of vegetables and combinations. Beets were delicious, and the fondue of goats cheese with leeks. Chicken and shrimp were well cooked, presented beautifully and very tasty. Ambience is rather limited."

  • "We tried this place randomly for restaurant week. The pulled pork spring rolls are delicious. The trout and brussel sprouts were seasoned perfectly. I would go again."

  • "This was my first time dining at New South Kitchen & Bar. The variety of the menu gave something for everyone. All of our appetizers, entrees, and desserts were tasteful and well presented. If you are across town, the drive is worth the trip. If you are in the area, this is a suggestion for a regular dining experience."

  • "I didn't know what to expect before entering the restaurant in terms of ambiance. I thought it might be dark and formal, but in fact it is well-lit , between upscale and casual. The food, however, was quite good. We tried the fried green tomatoes, the pulled pork spring rolls, braised short ribs, shrimp and grits, pan fried chicken, roasted chicken penne, and mac & cheeese. Everyone shared and enjoyed all of these dishes. The fried blueberry pie desert looks like a cornish pastie but is quite tasty with vanilla ice cream. Our server seemed a little inexperienced and wasn't very personable, but he did not mess anything up,was reasonably attentive, and ultimately was neither a positive or negative factor in our experience. We will go back!."

  • "The food was very good. We ordered the Oyster stew, it was surprising. It was really a brush of stew with 4 - 5 oysters. Tasty but not what we would call soup or stew. Pork and Fish were very good. Would certainly go back again!"
