Behind familiar doors in the Casa Sanchez building on Alvarado Street in Monterey, a dark, shallow entrance leads guests back in time to an adobe-white room with dark accents and soft lighting. The character of the room comes from a hand-milled oak bar, stained dark, and the black-and-white portrait of Horace Coniglio presiding over the place.

My Attic is an anachronism in a modern era, boasting a bar in the front plus a lounge in the back, presented in warm olive tones offset by dark walnut woods. The vibe is, inviting, relaxing and fun, punctuated by light, relaxing house music and a menu of fresh, light local fare.

Our reservation was lost, Valerie took care of us with some discounted drinks which was appreciated but it was still a little frustrating to not have a table.
