Diner Reviews
  • "We popped in to the Museum Tavern on the recommendation of our daughter before a movie and we were not disappointed. Service was provided by Jonny and it was excellent. He knew his menu specials and guided us very well. I decided on a burger and it was juicy, fresh, and very tasty! My wife had fish which was moist and delicious. The decor is tavern-style with a great poster signed by the Rolling Stones band members when they performed at the El Mocambo (same owner). The prices were very reasonable and we were in and out with plenty of time to spare. It's a terrific location if one is visiting the ROM or Koerner Hall (right across the street and mid-way between the two venues)."

  • "The menu at Museum Tavern offers a nice selection and the food is solid and somewhat inventive. It is a great place for a casual night out. This is definitely not a "scene" restaurant. The service offers something to be desired and the bar menu is not great. It would be best to stick to the beer list. Overall, I would recommend it."

  • "The Tavern never did receive my reservation but had seating and we had a pleasant time"

  • "As a past fan of Bemelman's it was great to find this reincarnation. The menu has a great balance and we especially enjoyed the starters to share. This brought us back for a 2nd time for an evening of main courses. We enjoyed the perogies and the Steak & Frites. We might have liked to see sweet potatoe fries as an option. Our waitress was exceptional with her attentiveness. The Panacotti made a great finish to a great meal."

  • "They are in my neighbourhood so we frequent the restaurant. Food always good . I just wish they had more daily specials so there was more choice for a regular."

  • "We had a 7:30 curtain across the road at Koerner Hall so did not have an opportunity to try the desserts. The mains were fine, however. Three of us had the steak frites; the fourth member of the party had the vegetarian option. I was the only one to have the soup, which was very good. All of us felt we had eaten well. Will definitely go here again."

  • "We had a very quick dinner after late work and before a show and it was lovely. The key is makin a reservation and letting the server know you are in a rush. The quinoa bowl was outstanding for cal our and texture."

  • "I highly recommend this place if you want a great cocktail (manhattans, negronis, etc at $14) and lively bar scene (but not obnoxious). The lighting is cozy and the decor is interesting to look at. A good spot for a date but also a group. I found the food mediocre, but our server was attentive and charming so overall it was a wonderful experience and I will certainly go again."

  • "I've eaten at Museum Tavern on several occasions and never been disappointed in the food. Sometimes I find it too noisy - due in part to the tiled floors, but the service has always been excellent and it's a reliable 'go-to' spot for a bite, a drink or a full meal."

  • "I brought visitors from Finland and Australia here for a special lunch. Everyone enjoyed the food, which was reasonably priced. Service was excellent too. The restaurant is well located for visitors to the ROM or the University of Toronto."

  • "I like this place. Great food, good service. Do yourself a favour and order the cheeseburger or prime rib sandwich. Good looking place too."

  • "We live right around the corner from Museum Tavern and had always passed it but never looked in. We had heard great things about it from some friends who went for Winterlicious. The food was wonderful and so were the selection of drinks. Had a really enjoyable meal and it's such a fun place. Our new go to when we are scrambling for dinner on Friday nights!"

  • "Highlights - fried chicken, ahi tuna starter Mediocre - game sausages because the spice heat was far too much I would have rated the food as very good had it not been for the heat in the sausages. Given their focus on interesting cocktails and whiskies, it's a shame that their wine list is so pathetic."

  • "We snared a last-minute reservation and were not disappointed. The bistro fare was wonderful, especially the frites. I had the mushroom pirogues and a salad, all terrific."

  • "Came back after having a wonderful winterlicious meal determined to try the fried chicken starter. It was amazing. In fact everything I've had was amazing. The prime rib dip, lamb sloppy joe, fried chicken burger, grilled Brie, YUM. I recommend you pick the Quinoa salad over their soup though. Carrot soup was kinda plain while the salad was bright and refreshing. Big props to the chocolate peanut butter tart. Besides the food, ambiance was great. Casual enough for families. I will be back!"

  • "Museum Tavern had the best customer service I've had in a long time. The ambience was warm and inviting. Food was delicious. Interesting selection of drinks."

  • "Out of towners who got lucky with this one. The buttermilk chicken was moist and well flavored, the maple sticky ribs were fall off the bone! Add to that some fun drinks like the Moscow Mule cocktail and we were really happy with the place. The Winterlicious pricing was definitely part of that, though. Compared to some other places in the city, the standard prices seemed a little high."

  • "The food was great, where I sat was right at the kitchen window so I could everything the chefs were saying (screaming) thought it would be worthy to note."

  • "Reservations were at a busy time and service was a little slow to start. Once our orders were taken the food and drinks came out in a timely and efficient manner. The food was even better than it looked and sounded in the menu. The atmosphere of the place was nice, especially when the crowds started to disperse. I would very much recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the area."

  • "We were here for Winterlicious 2014. As one of my fellow diners commented, very standard pub/tavern food, as the name suggests. Good for traditional food lovers. The food was a hit or miss; it seemed as if there was just a little something with each dish that was lacking, but overall enjoyable. Dessert would not have been missed, some homemade fare would have been more desirable."

  • "Service was great, tavern-comfort but stylish and warm decor. Wait staff was great! Very friendly, knowledgeable and thoughtful. Great menu options at an even greater winterlicious price! I had the pierogies, sticky ribs and carrot cake. All were delicious. Our table of 6 also tried the tuna tartare (my husband said it was the best tuna sandwich he's ever had!), game sausage and peanut butter tart. All yummy as well but some of our party wanted more than one sausage."

  • "Just make sure you ask you to sit away from the door…when both doors are opened simultaneously it gets cold big time! Other than that nice place to eat and catch up with good friends. Great carrot cake and truffle perigees!!"

  • "The MuseumTavern is trying to present as upscale but is really more of a pub. The night we were there, every time the door opened....we froze. Nothing remarkable about the experience"

  • "Winterlicious '14 Lunch Menu FOOD 8/10 Tuna Tartare - average Beef Ribs Sandwich - succulent definitely recommend Carrot Cake - very moist (not as sweet as I expected from other reviews) Perogies - delicious! a must-try Cheeseburger with fries - average Apple pie - just ok SERVICE 8/10 Came in with reservation. Seated immediately. Server was quick and efficient. Refilled water without having to ask. Slowed down when restaurant got busy. Reasonable wait time for food. AMBIANCE 7/10 Space is limited. Can hear conversation on the table beside us. Place is clean and organized well maximizing space. Decor is nothing spectacular."

  • "This is a fantastic restaurant with a great vibe. The winterliscious meals were terrific, the cocktails a must and we had the nicest server we've had in a long time. The ONLY reason I put the ambience as "fair" was that we were seated by the door and it was FREEZING every time the door opened a terribly cold blast would come directly at us (and that was about every 30 seconds). That said, we'll be back! Terrific food and service."

  • "Reminiscent of an Old School New York style pub...Museum Tavern was , for lack of a better term, a "cool "place to dine at. The cocktails are undeniably unique and delicious. Beet juice in a cocktail. Yep, and it rocked⭐️ The food was very good. Favorite bite of the night...the fried chicken. Had the wild game sausage as well, casing was missing the snap that I so love but still quite flavourful. From start to finish, our experience was a good one. Atmosphere, fun and well , hip. Very nice staff"

  • "The good: I loved the ambiance in this restaurant Friendly wait staff Stuff that could be improved on: The two alcoholic cocktails we ordered - $12 each - were a bit disappointing in terms of taste. I expected better The peameal bacon sandwich was delicious - 5 out of 5 The fish and chips were 2 out of 5 - the fish was over-fried and the salad had so much dressing the salad leaves were drowning in it. The waiter did not have any cash on her. Neither did the cash till, apparently. We ended up waiting for 10 minutes to get the change for our bill (the restaurant's bar till had to be opened to retrieve the cash)..."
