Diner Reviews
  • "I was surprised at how un-organized the service was. We were served the wrong thing 3 times and had it whisked away once the error was noticed. quite a change from usual service--and our meal, ordered from the sumerlicious menu, was a long time coming..odd for a fixe prix meal..."

  • "Good service, appealing ambience, food aims for gastro pub, but doesn't always succeed."

  • "My fiance asked for a medium rare tuna burger but turned out to be too cooked, was not raw enough. Too much fries on the plates. Service was great (although they accidentally served the wrong food on our table). Appetizers were amazing."

  • "I had come here once before excited to dine for dinner after having read the many reviews. But being the late person I am, as I was a walk-in they told me it would have to be a two hour wait. SO after knowing that "Yes, this place really IS popular" I decided to make a reservation for Summerlicious Lunch (or Brunch ...) and of course I wasn't disappointed. GET THE PATIO. IT IS SUMMER AND LOVELY. Also definitely get a drink. And not, not just water. That's not fun right? As soon as we stepped into the restaurant , the servers were very charming and the food was AMAZING. Larger portions than I expected and I could barely finish dessert. I got the 12 Grain Salad to start (already filling) and the Southwestern Steak Salad as the main."

  • "The service was awful and the food was cold. It was summerlicious and we were very excited about trying out this place as we have heard such positive things about it. However the service was awful, the waitress clearly hated her life and did not want to her there and kept using the excuse there is a big party inside. That is not my problem I still expect decent service. As well the food was cold and we didnt bother taking it back however it was good so that was a positive. Summerlicious is supposed to be result in my wanting to come back to the restaurant but this will not be the case."

  • "Went here for summerlicious, and it was delicious! The portion sizes were huge! My friend got the buttermilk chicken and if that was paired with fries or salad it would have been enough for a meal and it was just the appetizer. I got the seared tuna burger, duck buns and blueberry pie which were all delicious. I would recommend though if you are ordering a steak to order it rarer than you would like (order rare if you want medium rare). Our server overall was very nice, constantly refilling drinks however she was in a bad mood at the beginning of dinner however that faded. Overall, I will definitely come back, probably only during Winterlicious/ Summerlicious as it is a bit pricely."

  • "Visited during summerlicious, would avoid entirely during this period, food not up to standard, regular menu not an option, portions too small, very very noisy"

  • "All of the appetizers looked so good we ordered 5 from that list and never got to the mains. We'll have go back to try everything else. Food was excellent."

  • "I had an interesting experience at Museum Tavern. My brother and I both ordered the market fish - herb crusted halibut. Unfortunately, it was dry as saw dust and impossible to eat! With that said, everything else we ordered was absolutely delicious! The ahi tuna poke cones were a light tasty appetizer - with a crispy sesame cone, avocado and spicy mayo. The truffled mushroom perogies were enormous and basically perfect - panfried with caramelized onions, crisped lardons and sour cream. The chicken supreme was exploding with juice and deliciously tasty. All in all, the manager took our halibuts off the bill and provided free desserts (though they were very mediocre) and, regardless of the halibut and desserts, I would definitely return!"

  • "The museum tavern has a spectacular and regularly changing schedule of craft cocktails to suit any taste. Their menu of small plates and fuller meals are sure to please any foodie. The only thing that isn't superlative is the desert course."

  • "Overall, our experience was fine. The food was well presented and had good flavor. This is in the rich neighborhood of Toronto, so when you buy a slab of ribs.. let me rephrase, when you buy the ribs you will pay for a slab and maybe a slab and a half at most places but you will receive half a rack at best. and don't ask for BBQ Sauce, they don't have it."

  • "The Museum Tavern provides a great central location with a small but tasty menu. It truly has an upscale tavern atmosphere; but unless you appreciate a boisterous atmosphere, try to avoid peak lunch hours since conversation may require shouting. "

  • "Amazing food but noisy. Loved the burger, fries and fish and chips. "

  • "I took my mother here for lunch before a concert. She chose the soup and 1/2 Brie and peameal bacon sandwich and I chose the hearts of romaine with Confit. The soup was fine but the sandwich was pretty inedible: tough bread, and tougher meat that resembled an overcooked pork chop more than pea meal bacon. She struggled for a while before giving up. Mine was an overdressed caesar salad with very small but tasty duck bits. Ironically my husband had been at the restaurant with a friend a week earlier and had the same sandwich which he also found incredibly tough. We thought it was a fluke but maybe not. We enjoyed the wine. The waiter was very nice and the service was good. Will think twice about coming back for the food."

  • "Five of us dined here following a Hot Docs Film Festival Screening at the Elizabeth Bader Theatre, which is less than a 5 minute walk from the restaurant. It was a great place to unwind in between films and have a drink. They have a really nice selection of custom cocktails that you wouldn't find anywhere else. The Lobster Roll was divine!! It was absolutely stuffed with Lobster Meat. Very impressive. The rest of my party also enjoyed their meals. I would not hesitate to eat here again!"

  • "We came for lunch with friends before Hot Docs. The soup was served cold and was reheated in a microwave. The fish and chips were not good. The fries were limp and cool and the fish, cornbread crusted, was tough and tasteless. It amazes me how restaurants and chefs take good food and turn it into inedible fodder. The prices do not reflect the quality and paying 50$ for two plates of fish and chips and tea was incredibly disheartening. A place like this is needed badly on Bloor across from so many art destinations. However, I will never return. Get your kitchen in order! "

  • "I have found it inconsistent here. Sometimes great. Other times have encounteres screw ups. E.g. seizing sauces, slow service. Overall, worth trying though and a cool spot."

  • "First visit. Will definitely return. Great location, food was very good, prices within reason, service was terrific. A definite feeling of a friendly and homey atmosphere within all the staff encountered."

  • "Museunm tavern is a great place for dinner before a concert at Koerner Hall. Always enjoy the food and service. Will be back in 2 weeks, another concert so to my favourite dinner place,"

  • "A great place to meet before Koerner Hall. Service was excellent. Staff happy, knowledgeable and eager to serve! Happy hour offered a good selection of wine at a great price. A 6 ounce glass of wine for $5!!!"

  • "This was my second time at Museum Tavern and it was just as great as the first! The Garden of Eden cocktail is particularly nice - great for the warmer weather. Also, there is always impeccable service - such nice and knowledgeable staff."

  • "Lovely dining experience, waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive enough but did not hover. Food was delicious, good portion sizes, reasonable pricing. Best thing was that there was no blaring, thumping music, so everyone at the table was able to hear and converse in a reasonable voice. Bravo!"

  • "We popped in to the Museum Tavern on the recommendation of our daughter before a movie and we were not disappointed. Service was provided by Jonny and it was excellent. He knew his menu specials and guided us very well. I decided on a burger and it was juicy, fresh, and very tasty! My wife had fish which was moist and delicious. The decor is tavern-style with a great poster signed by the Rolling Stones band members when they performed at the El Mocambo (same owner). The prices were very reasonable and we were in and out with plenty of time to spare. It's a terrific location if one is visiting the ROM or Koerner Hall (right across the street and mid-way between the two venues)."

  • "The menu at Museum Tavern offers a nice selection and the food is solid and somewhat inventive. It is a great place for a casual night out. This is definitely not a "scene" restaurant. The service offers something to be desired and the bar menu is not great. It would be best to stick to the beer list. Overall, I would recommend it."

  • "As a past fan of Bemelman's it was great to find this reincarnation. The menu has a great balance and we especially enjoyed the starters to share. This brought us back for a 2nd time for an evening of main courses. We enjoyed the perogies and the Steak & Frites. We might have liked to see sweet potatoe fries as an option. Our waitress was exceptional with her attentiveness. The Panacotti made a great finish to a great meal."

  • "They are in my neighbourhood so we frequent the restaurant. Food always good . I just wish they had more daily specials so there was more choice for a regular."

  • "We had a 7:30 curtain across the road at Koerner Hall so did not have an opportunity to try the desserts. The mains were fine, however. Three of us had the steak frites; the fourth member of the party had the vegetarian option. I was the only one to have the soup, which was very good. All of us felt we had eaten well. Will definitely go here again."

  • "We had a very quick dinner after late work and before a show and it was lovely. The key is makin a reservation and letting the server know you are in a rush. The quinoa bowl was outstanding for cal our and texture."

  • "I highly recommend this place if you want a great cocktail (manhattans, negronis, etc at $14) and lively bar scene (but not obnoxious). The lighting is cozy and the decor is interesting to look at. A good spot for a date but also a group. I found the food mediocre, but our server was attentive and charming so overall it was a wonderful experience and I will certainly go again."

  • "I've eaten at Museum Tavern on several occasions and never been disappointed in the food. Sometimes I find it too noisy - due in part to the tiled floors, but the service has always been excellent and it's a reliable 'go-to' spot for a bite, a drink or a full meal."

  • "I brought visitors from Finland and Australia here for a special lunch. Everyone enjoyed the food, which was reasonably priced. Service was excellent too. The restaurant is well located for visitors to the ROM or the University of Toronto."
