ModavieWe lost a favourite jazz resturantWe lost a favourite jazz resturant in our hometown. Going to Modavie brought back good memories of it. We loved the atmosphere.12/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Ambience and service.Great place for a casual supper with fantastic service, great jazz and a wonderful food.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNice EveningWe went to Modavie for our second time Sunday evening after the Grand Prix to decompress after an active weekend and had a wonderful evening. The requested table by an open window was ready on time, the ambiance was great, the live jazz singer was great, the G&T was great, the service was good, the waitress was getting busier as the night went on but we were having a nice conversation with a couple from England at the next table and were in no rush. A woman came through the restaurant selling roses which I had to buy for my sweetie. The food was maybe not super super good but we enjoyed it and it just added to a nice evening.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly service, good musicVery friendly service. Live music was very good and not too loud.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experienceNight 2 of our F1 weekend and this was the best. The atmosphere is great and the live jazz a nice compliment to an outstanding meal. The lamb chops were amazing (from a Yorkshireman, that's saying a lot!). Good bottle of wine and pleasant, attentive service.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMModavie, what a findIt was a great dining experience at Modavie located in Old Montreal. I go there every year when I am in town for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. It generally falls on my wedding aniversary and my wife enjoys the great food and atmoshpere. The rack of lamb is the highlight of the menu as well are any of the rissoto offerings. The Managing Director, Bruno is always seen walking the tables, talking to guests and helping the staff. You got to give this a go when visiting Montreal.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGot stuck away from live bandI reserved this restaurant specifically to enjoy the live jazz band. However, when I arrived, this somehow surprised them and they only had tables downstairs where there is no music. After some patience, they found me a table upstairs stuck in a corner where I could hear the music but have absolutely no view of anything. It was possibly the worst table available upstairs. I expect better when making a reservation (for only two people).
Otherwise, it was a great experience.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed the restaurantWe enjoyed the restaurant tremedously, the food was great, I had the Mussels and my wife had the Lamb which was cooked perfect, very tender and was delicious, and our two guests enjoyed their meal as well, they were from New York and they also enjoyed the ambiance. Lorenzo was great as well, funny and witty. Definitely would recommend and come back as well.
Thank you again.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMModavie - A true GEM!A friend and I visited Montreal this past week & went to Modavie Wine Bar in Old Montreal.
Menu was enticing & added bonus of Jazz singer & guitar player sealed the deal.
Lorenzo was so congenial & made sure the evening proceeded as it should. We had the fillets (tender & delectable). A nice bottle of white wine was kept chilled in ice bucket beside our table. We sat directly beside the music and thought it might be too loud, but was not at all.
The singer's voice was soft & romantic-her guitar accompaniment's skill was superb! The decor and atmosphere of Modavie is warm and inviting.
Thank you Lorenzo & team for our wonderful evening spent with you -- we will definitely return next time we visit Montreal.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMmusic and wineThis is a great place if you love jazz, wine and good food. This is a good place for a special occasion.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service, wonderful patioFood is very good but not mind blowing. Service was fun and helpful. The patio on a beautiful day is great for people watching and enjoying Old Montreal vibe.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was really good andThe food was really good and they very easily accomodated our group of 10. The server was very helpful and patient with us. The food was really good. I would definitely recommend to friends visiting Montreal and anyone looking for a reasonable and good restaurant in Old Montreal5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSteak frites yes please!Discovered this spot while strolling through old Montreal mid-evening. We were drawn in by the food we saw through the window. I had been craving steak frites all day, and discovered their rich and flavourful version (my first time trying with butter). Fantastic cuisine, and lovely service that added to the great time we shared in Montreal that weekend. So impressed, I brought a friend back the following weekend from Ottawa.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMjazz loverI love to dine while a band is playing. Great feeling, great food and excellent service! I will definetly go back!!!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat choice all-aroundWe had an excellent experience at Modavie. The manager, Lorenzo, was very attentive and charming, and assisted me in surprising my boyfriend with a dessert with a candle for his birthday. He checked on every table, and seemed to know a lot of the customers, who were regulars in this somewhat otherwise tourist street for restaurants. The atmosphere, with a quiet, excellent jazz duo, was very nice, lively, but not too noisy. We both had an excellent fish dinner, salad, and wine. I would definitely go back. The prices were reasonable also.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, staff excellent but fewGood food, friendly, needs more staff. Jazz music was excellent and perfect volume.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were happy that we madeWe were happy that we made a reservation as even though it was a Sunday night, the restaurant was busy. Very extensive wine list and the food was very good. I had the lamb chops and my wife had the steak frites.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice eveningOur only complaint was that we chose the restaurant because it offered live jazz while we dined, and although we were told we would hear it well downstairs we could not, in fact, hear it at all (other than occasional bursts of applause from upstairs). However food was great, service was friendly and attentive and we felt we enjoyed a real Old Montreal experience.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat blues group for dinner! All in all a very enjoyable experience which I'd wholeheartedly recommend, a stone's throw from the Old Montreal main drag. Welcome and service were friendly and courteous (OK, I do speak a little French...). Food was good, served at a nice pace and music was very enjoyable. Nice mix of people, mostly there to have a good time in the relaxed atmosphere. Prices are at a reasonable level for what is offered. Hope to go again...5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMnice atmosphereOverall food was quite good and the braised short ribs were delicious. Jazz singer provided just the right note to a pleasant evening out.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOoo la laI live in New York and have eaten in some of the finest restaurants . . . Modavie was a neighborhood gem. The find jazz music and excellent food set the stage for a wonderful dining experience. I would recommend you try it the next time you are in Montreal.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMfun, good service etc. Didntfun, good service etc. Didnt like the guinea fowl. Very very dry. Music upstairs just a bit too loud. Otherwise all good.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
