Diner Reviews
  • "Have been to Mitchell's many times with good result. This time the food was exceptional---from the shrimp cocktail to the key lime pie---it could not have been better. Hats off to the chef for the trio of salmon, tilapia and scallops. Divine!"

  • "Lived in Boston for several years. Mitchell's reminds us so much of Boston atmosphere, food selection is pure Boston, and Mitchell's is simply one of our most favorite seafood restaurants in central Indiana."

  • "The restaurant was clean and easy to get a table even though we had reservations. The staff was friendly. We were very disappointed in the quality of the fish that we had. The cobia came recommended by 2-3 staff members. It is not a fish that I was familiar with. It was not good. My wife could not eat hers. We were both very disappointed because we have never had a bad meal at Mitchell's before."

  • "We had three entres. The tilapia was delicious! The shrimp salad would have been good, except the shrimp were too spicy to eat. My entre was a Lobster BLT, but I could not taste any lobster meat at all. The waiter was very nice and the service was very good. Jose"

  • "Had previously eaten at a different Mitchell's and was anxious to return. Sadly, this location just didn't cut it. The menu was appealing, but the portions were small and the vegetable and fish were lukewarm. The waiter was pleasant but never smiled or seemed enthusiastic. Maybe it was Indy, or maybe not, but I won't be dining there again when I can get a much better deal by paying only slightly more at a non-chain restaurant."

  • "We went to this first offering of a four course meal with special cocktails called an ISLAND DINNER and it was a huge hit! This was a foodie's dream: great tasting dishes, each with its own drink, with a short presentation by the chef and a vendor partner (in this case Baccardi Rum) to tell the story of its preparation. Fun! From appetizer of tuna poke to dessert of a flourless dark chocolate cake (who knew gluten free could be so delicious?!) we enjoyed each of the four courses so lovingly prepared and so expertly served. Highly recommend that you get on their mailing list and adventure with them into the land of special event meals. A wonderful evening - this team knows how to please their customers."

  • "After the long winter months it was great to catch up with a friend in the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of Mitchell's Fish Market. The food was good and the service was attentive without being interrupting the conversation."

  • "Server was ok, except he forgot an item & had to be reminded and also did not make a requested substitution. Not impressed with sourdough bread or Rainbow trout that was ordered. Fish ordered at Asian restaurants has been better prepared. Rice in Shanghai style meal was hard."

  • "We've lived in the area for 6 years and had always wanted to eat at Mitchell's Fish Market but had never made it. Sunday evening we went with another couple and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food was excellent. and our server was perfect. Sorry we waited so long to eat there. We will be back."

  • "The service was excellent and only surpassed by the quality of the food. We were dining with another couple who were first time visitors to Mitchell's. They were equally impressed. The seafood, crab cakes, lobster and scallions were all perfectly prepared and served. The beef tenderloin steak was absolutely succulent …..no need for any A-1 steak sauce here!!!!"

  • "Not sure what happened. Always consistent and one of my favorite places for seafood. But multiple failures. Only one kind of fresh oyster available, and I'm used to a variety of east and west coast. Just east coast choice this time. I prefer west coast, but the east coast they served were fresh and tasty. The main issue was the swordfish. It was badly overcooked and hardened. No moisture in the fish at all. I picked at about about half of it and let the rest go. I love this place, but this time it was very disappointing."

  • "The service was very good. Interesting bar drinks and good wine list. I had crab cakes which is one of the signature dishes and found that the entree was bland. Not very tasty. My companion had the cod fish with ginger and ended up not eating very much because of its lack of flavor. Mgmt did offer to get him something else but he declined this offer. Clam chowder was not very tasty . Overall a big disappointment. I will not plan to go back."

  • "Customer service was great! They were really fast in getting you seated and making sure you had your drinks and order set. Our waiter was swift and professional. The food was delicious! It was perfect! Oysters were fresh and delicious. As a first time customer our experience was really good! We will definitely go back. I would recommend this place for special occasions and such. My personal opinion: it was a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for!"

  • "Went to a seafood restaurant expecting excellent seafood. My trout was just ok and overdone. And so was my daughter's cod was too. We've had better meals here and, for the price, expected better. Next time we'll go to the local seafood place."

  • "Ordered ahi tuna without the sauces and they messed up. Ordered their daily special sea bass grilled, they brought out salmon. Took it back and brought back raw sea bass. Manager comped the sea bass but that does not resolve the raw fish issue. Overall just a poor first experience."

  • "We have never had anything but superb food and great service at Mitchell's Fish Market. I had the Atlantic Salmon grilled and served on a cedar plank with balsalmic glaze, wtih grilled zucchini and topped with a tomato pesto and goat cheese. The salmon was not overcooked as I often find in other restaurants and was tasty to the last bite. My husband's grilled swordfish was also excellent, served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. I like that Mitchell's offers so many methods of preparation for its wide variety of fish and seafood. We will come back again and again to this quality establishment."

  • "I met my out of town best friend from high school at Mitchell's who I haven't seen in years! I was worried about going to a seafood restaurant as she is from a coastal state. She loved it and went back the next day!"

  • "We took some friends and arrived at 5:30 on a Friday with reservations. There were plenty of open tables then but at 7 when we left the wait time was 1 hour. Food was hot when arrived but the Sea Bass was not cooked all the way thru since it was a big chuck of fish. They happily recooked it and everything was fine. We told the server our time constraints and we made it thru the meal in plenty of time. I ordered the trout and would like to have it just fried with a butter sauce instead of all the other spice offerings which seemed to cover up the tast of the fish. Waitreess was very good and overall a good meal and enjoyed our visit."

  • "The place was nice but even with reservations Made a week out, we were seated at what Had to be the worse table there. Right in front of the kitchen where it is so busy With staff and noise from kitchen."

  • "There was a little problem w/our reservation. We made it at 5:00pm it was somehow down for 6:30pm. The Hostess, although she found us a table right away, was very defensive about it. Saying "OK understand, I am going to get you a table". Just the tone and her attitude. Not professional. Even the people behind us noticed. I said to them "did I di something" They said no, it was her. Not appreciated. We always try to come to Mitchells for special occasions and before going to Indy. She made me rethink the whole thing."

  • "We had a fantastic time. We arrived at 7:30 which was our reservation time and seated with in 10 min of our reservation. It. was. packed. We went on the first Friday of lent, during north side nights.... it was packed but since we had a reservation we had a super short wait time. Dinner was fantastic as always. Mitchell's has become our go to place for everything sea food."

  • "For the price of food the flatware was cheap. My bread plate was dirty. The decor and seating were heavily worn. I had to send back my wedge salad because the lettuce had brown on it and was not fresh. The restraint is loud. The mahi jerk style was slightly fishy so not as fresh as hoped. Overall not a pleasing experience. Would not go back."

  • "Mitchell's is usually a no-brainer for me for a good filet (actually a favorite over the other fine steak places) but they undercooked it and then when they tried to make it right they overcooked it. Forgot my side of grilled shrimp, my husband's chowder was lukewarm and was reheated (we think via microwave) and his fish and chips were not stellar. So we got a visit from the sous chef apologizing for the errors. They were kind enough to comp our dinners and offer a dessert. I would of thought the manager would of come by to apologize but she did not. Not sure what the deal was that night but they were "off" which is unusual for Mitchell's. Hope they are not slipping as this is a favorite of ours!"

  • "Perhaps it is the way servers are taught, however, I do not care for "what are we having?' as an invitation to order. My guests and I are dining, but the server is serving. The server will not be eating with us, neither are we preschoolers, so asking us what "we" are having is insulting. Other than that, the food was great as usual."

  • "Our dinner was very good, we went to Mitchell's especially for their Seafood. We loved their Lobster Bisque and Clam Chowder to start with. I had their fried shrimp which had a delicious batter, and my husband had the Scallops, which he enjoyed, along with their Lettuce Wedge. Their creme brûlée for Dessert was delicious. All in all the evening was delightful!"
