Diner Reviews
  • "My girlfriends and I had a great time. The owner and staff made us feel like we were the only guests in the restaurant. The food was amazing. The restaurant couldn't be any more adorable. I will visit again soon."

  • "It's always pretty good. There is nothing wrong with food, but I'm sad to say that it's getting a little tired . The menu was almost the picking the least of what what's the most boring. But the service is always attentive , and the soufflé is a must. As of right now, unfortunately it's about as good as Ventura Blvd. is going to get."

  • "Great neighborhood spot with really good, well prepared, quality food. Tuna tartare appetizer was delicious. Decent wine list. Entree prices are on the higher end. I'm not a big eater so I shared a salad, app and an entree and it was the perfect amount of food. If you've driven past this place a thousand times intending to try it one day you should. You'll be glad you did."

  • "Top notch in every way! Ambience, food and dare I say the best I've ever had on the globe."

  • "we loved our birthday lunch at Mistral! The "bonus" was it is not as busy as dinner, so quieter (which we liked). The service was attentive and the food delish."

  • "The service is nothing short of remarkable from beginning to end. How many places have you been that the valet will have your car waiting when you exit the restaurant? The escargot and the fish are always spectacular. Lunch time is my favorite, because dinner service can get really busy, especially on the weekends."

  • "Mistral is run by magicians and illusionists. They will take you off the sidewalks of Sherman Oaks and nestle you into a Parisian embrace. The food is exquisite, the service immediate and nurturing, the ambiance is assuring and the clientele is very Old World. The customers, lots of regulars, and the staff and managers are one family. There is such warmth and hospitality and welcoming that you feel "Privacy" and "Personal" the moment you enter. The place is chic, it's well-worn, it's up to speed, it's dynamic and it's all yours. Mistral is every place you've ever wanted to eat. It casts a spell and everyone is happily enthralled. If I had to make a list of my ten favorite restaurants in LA, I would list Mistral all ten times!"

  • "First time at the restaurant. First diner in for the evening and next couple to come in seated immediately next to my table. Why do that? My guest and I both ordered the ribeye - it was ok, prepared to my liking but nothing like a steak at Mastro's."

  • "We always count on the Mistral staff who have served together for more than 20 years. I wish there was a way to tamper down the noise level so everyone could have a quiet conversation."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "The food is very good, in fact better than very good. The service is attentive and friendly and accommodating. However, like so many restaurants these days the table arrangement is very crowded, maximizing the number of possible covers at the expense of dining comfort. If you are unfortunate enough to wind up at a table on the long bench you might as well be eating off the plate of the diners next to you. The other downside is the noise level which makes conversation extremely difficult. The walls and ceiling are hardwood, the floor is stone. All the hard surfaces make for a very high noise level. Please don't misconstrue this as a condemnation of the restaurant. The food is really good. Just go for the food not for conversation."

  • "In addition to the standards printed on Mistral's web site, there is an equally substantial menu of daily specials."

  • "We liked the food, great service, but very noisy so not a romantic spot, but great for a party."

  • "Arrived at peak hour (8pm) on a Saturday night. I had mistaken the reservation time, but Raoul, the maitre'd, was most accommodating in placing us. Food and drink were, as always, excellent. The service superb. And, even though the noise level was a little intense, the experience was still great. As my friend remarked, "We could have been on the Left Bank". Highly recommended."

  • "One of the few places that truly grasped the concept of dineLA. The food was executed very well, the menu is creative but with french roots and the space is well designed. I felt like I was back in Paris."

  • "I am hesitant to speak about Mistral, because I'm afraid the more people that know about the place, the harder it will be for me to get a table. Every time I dine there, the level of consistency remains quite high. The food is superb, presented in a simple, yet truly elegant manner. The service is formidable, attentive, without being cloying. French bistro style fare, in the truest sense of the word. The owners are there every day, greeting everyone and attending to every detail. Many diners are repeat customers, and I guess that alone says a lot about the place. After dining in many of the most coveted restaurants in Los Angeles, I always come back to Mistral. It's my go-to joint where my wife and I feel the most comfortable."

  • "I requested a window table &arrived to a window table marked reserved. How pleasantly surprising! The dineLA menu was different fr most -they had venison! The restaurant has the most wonderful dinner ambience w/nice music to match. A true dining experience in every aspect! One feels pampered. The patrons are mildly mannered, relaxed &content. The manager checked on every table. My sister ordered a cocktail that didn't come out good &the manager was quick to make it right. The food was full of delicate flavors &beautifully plated. The meat was prepared to tender perfection one need not need to masticate, the fish melted in your mouth, the vegetables held their flavors in the sparingly light sauce. The potato au gratin was a taste of heaven!"

  • "This is usually a 5 star restaurant. Was it off because it was a Monday and in the middle of dine LA? Whatever the case, service was no where near where it usually is. We had to ask if someone could take our drink order. We had to ask for the wine list. The food came out so fast we had not finished our appetizer. Plus their food was not as outstanding as they usually are. We left kind of disappointed."

  • "We celebrated a birthday as we had last year, here and it was as great as ever. We took advantage of DineLA and the dinner menu was great:. difficult to decide because the choices were so intriguing. We had brought a special French wine and our waiter decanted and served it perfectly. The only negative (and this was on a Sunday night - maybe mid-week would be better) is the noise level. Conversation was difficult (and we were only four). Tables are close together, and when all the neighboring tables were filled, talking was almost impossible. I guess you would term it "energetic," but loud does come to mind. All that being said, we'd return over and over without a second thought. It's just too great not to keep returning."

  • "If you don't plan on having a conversation at dinner, be sure and come here. It's not the music, it's the acoustics or lack there of. It is a deafening and uncomfortable situation in an otherwise lovely spot with good food. I would never dream of returning and couldn't wait to leave."

  • "Food was not that fresh. Use too much oil. Very grease. Corver the food nature favor. Only interesting large/ group people, error 2 people party. No any special good rate point."

  • "Went for Restaurant Week. Very romantic restaurant, though wish they would get rid of the TV in the bar area (Tacky for such a beautiful restaurant. Service was wonderful and the food was good though fish was overcooked and the salad was overdressed, so can't give the food an excellent this time. Souffle was perfect, all in all we would return to this restaurant and give it another try."

  • "Food not as good as I had remembered it. Noise level was even louder. Don't go for a romantic dinner - won't be able to hear your partner."

  • "One of the best French restaurants in Southern California, not just the San Fernando valley."

  • "Tried to find the fanciest place for a lunch. Very spartan fare, in my opinion. Tasted fine but no effort in the making or presentation. Literally, hunk of fish, dollop of potatoes and spoonful of spinach. Don't understand why it is so expensive. The salmon salad I had is better at the 4n20 around the corner...."

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary and went to one of our favorite local gems. MY wife had a beet salad and the branzino which said was excellent. I had the onion soup which is the best and the new york steak au poivre which was better than the steak houses. They have one of the best wine lists rated in the top 100 by Wine Spectator all in all a wonderful dining experience."

  • "Mistral provides the closest to a real French bistro experience in LA. The onion soup and steak au poivre were totally authentic. The only downside is that although the maître d is friendly and accommodating the wait staff is overworked."

  • "Hadn't been here in a while, so I really didn't know what to expect. As it turned out, I needn't have worried. The restaurant was exactly as I remembered. Great food, well presented, with excellent friendly service. Oh, and a terrific bartender who makes a superb Vodka Martini. I can't wait to return."

  • "Thanksgiving menu was perfect for our family. The restaurant was full and the staff were all pleasant working on a holiday. Everything was delicious. We even were able to move our time of arrival later with no problems. The maitre'd was very accomidating. We highly recommend."
