Diner Reviews
  • "Food was good but pricey for Gainesville. We had a fun ladies night."

  • "Dont miss this place. Interesting menu, the right portions, and the best grouper iv had in years. The roasted vegis were out of this world."

  • " A big disappointment. Terrible service. Although the restaurant was nearly empty, we hardly saw our server. That sandwich & fries? She only brought the sandwich because 'fries are not ready yet'. Fries came out 10 minutes later. Not good. My salmon was undercooked. Came with pasta, which I didn't notice was on the menu else I'd have ordered something else. Burger was ordered medium-rare, but was served well-done. Instead of refilling my coffee at the table, the server kept taking away my coffee cup to refill it; same with water glasses. My guests were very disappointed with both food and service. One positive note, the slices of cake are big and delicious. Go to Mildred's for dessert..only."

  • "Chef Gill offered a seven course seafood bar dinner on Saturday that was amazing! All the courses were beautiful, cooked perfectly and just the right size. I took three of my friends and they all loved it!"

  • "A far as an eating out experience I would give Mildred's a high rating but knowing a bit about beef cuts they could of made a better choice for their one beef entrée."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "We attended the "Tastes of Spain" bar dinner hosted by the Mildred's chefs and it was amazing! The staff had wine suggestions for each course and the chefs came out and talked about each plate and the region of Spain that it came from. Everything was delicious!"

  • "Our meals were outstanding. Nice presentation and great pairings of entree and vegetables. We liked the variety the menu offered and the wait staff were very professional."

  • "My wife had the snapper...said it's the best she has every had in any restaurant! I had the pork chop...very good. My son had the NY strip...couldn't finish it because it was so big! Nuff said...get there....often!"

  • "We selected Mildred's because the menu sounded fresh & interesting plus reservations were accepted (Open Table). We were very pleased with our choice of Mildred's for food, service, and ambience. Lunch offered some wonderful choices but we started with fried calamari - fresh calamari, fried perfectly. Lunch brought quiche, homemade frankfurter, and curry chicken salad - all delicious. Shared a strawberry shortcake for dessert - divine. Wish more appetite for the great dessert selections. Our server was terrific - friendly, attentive, knowledgeable - did not miss a thing. We will be back."

  • "Not as impressed this time around. Service was average. Had to hunt down our waitress a few times. Food took longer than expected."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Very difficult to find. The outside looks scary and dirty. We were so turned off from the appearance that we didn't even bother to go in."
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "Love Mildred's! Love the way the menu changes from season to season, but one thing you can always count on is the quality of the food and the excellent way it's prepared."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The service was great, but for the price the food was just alright. If I'm going to pay that much for a steak, I would rather go to Marks Prime. "

  • "This visit to Mildred's was delightful. Service was outstanding: no rush to get through each course so they could bring on the next one, wait staff was attentive but not hovering; able to discuss wines with some knowledge (unusual) and noise level was such that we could talk among the group without screaming at each other. Two appetizers for 4 were sufficient -Duck confit, and cheese platter- both very good; Champagne cocktail was refreshing and worth a repeat the next visit; Duck breast was just seared and served rare which my companion said was perfect; the scallops were served with a vegetable combination that I found unusual but tasty; our other dining companions each had the same fish that they said was beautifully done. "

  • "We were not impressed with the food. We had the quiche and it was blah. Service was slow. We have been here before and it was good. This time not so much."

  • "I was looking for a "nice" restaurant to have Easter dinner with my daughter. Luckily, I found this on Open Table. I read the previous reviews and booked our reservation. We were very happy to have chosen this. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere cozy. Would definitely recommend it."

  • "I eat here frequently and the experience is always awesome! The menu changes constantly so there's always something new to try and the service staff will take great care of you. On this trip, we had the bacon-wrapped stuffed rabbit and the goat-cheese crusted lamb chops both of which were delicious. Ask you server what wine to have with your meal and they will point you to some small label vineyards on their wine list that are producing some tasty wines. And save room for dessert, all their cakes are made in house and go great with a nice glass of port. "

  • "First experience at Mildred's. Easy to make a reservation online. Service was great. Food was delicious! We had crab cakes and NY strip steak. Good serving sizes. Steaks were huge and cooked well. Highly recommend."

  • "We had a delicious dinner. The menu is inspired and wonderful. We will definitely come back when we are in Gainesville again."

  • "Delicious creative Farm to Table style dishes. Waitress was very knowledgable and helpful. Great experience - would go back again next time I'm in town on business."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "This jewel of Gainesville will delight you for the food, menu, service, bar's wine and cocktails. They are very fussing about their selection ingredients that go into each meal. This is a very well managed restaurant that has well trained staff that are always there when something. I'm sure you will agree with a favorite of ours! Bon Appitite! J&J Gainesville, Fl."

  • "Have eaten at CHEF GILL'S three restaurants. Was disappointed in Mildred's because my Pork Chop was over-cooked. Dry and difficult to cut. Mushroom soup was good. My husband's Pompano should have been more seared....lacked any color. Our server provided good service. Blue Gill is much better."

  • "Keep returning to this restaurant every time we are in Gainesville because we have never had a bad experience here. This time I only gave four stars for the food. My mother had a salmon which was wonderful and my husband had his usual scallop dish which he really enjoyed. I decided to try the duck breast and it was a little tough but flavorful."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "You would never know how great a restaurant this is from the street. In a small, run down looking strip mall, Mildred's was a great find. The food was fantastic and the service impeccable. I had the Blue Cheese salad to start and then the flounder entrée. Everything was wonderful and I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Gainesville."

  • "Mildred's uses top quality ingredients and simple preparations to produce an excellent menu of land and sea offerings. There are typically at least two vegetarian offerings, but not true vegan cuisine. The menu changes according to what is on offer locally sourced combined with globally-produced, quick-ship fresh foods. An excellent choice for foodies and people who just like good food served properly."

  • "Our evening and meal were both memorable and enjoyable. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent."

  • "We had reservations and were seated immediately. We let our server know that we had theatre reservations and we were served timely, not rushed and everything was great, service, food, setting. Portions were generous enough to share and save room for the fab desserts you see right when you walk in. We will go back, often."

  • "We enjoyed the appetizers more than the meals. Had Pompano which was a bit over cooked and dry. Steaks were very good. Service was excellent."

  • "owners did a fantastic job of re-inventing a strip-mall shop interior."

  • "My family gathered for a small celebration and thoroughly enjoyed Mildreds. The pompano fish was outstanding, and my 87 year old grandmother doted on the coconut cream pie for dessert. The atmosphere was pleasant and quiet; three of the party have trouble hearing but commented how quiet and enjoyable Mildred's was. All of the dishes were outstanding, and the staff took excellent care of us."

  • "My husband and I visit our Gator son in Gainesville often and are always on the outlook for a good restaurant. Our search is over, as with Mildred's we found THE BEST restaurant! The food was over the top incredible and the services was impeccable! I would recommend this gem to anyone that enjoys food as it should be presented."

  • "This restaurant was a real find. The food was great as was the service. You'll love it. We will be going back there to eat soon!"

  • "Found a rabbit entree on New Years Eve menu - an item rarely found in restaurants. Both of us have enjoyed rabbit in the past so gave it a try. This was the best ever! Boned chunks were wonderfully seasoned and prepared in a bacon wrapped roll about 5 inches in diameter and served as 3/4 inch slices. Anyone who was thinking about ordering it, but hesitated because it seemed a bit too different missed a real treat!"

  • "This is our favorite restaurant in Gainesville. The staff is always friendly and the food is always terrific. It is a bit upscale and the wine list is full of producers we are unfamiliar with which make meals here an enjoyable adventure. Highly recommend."
