MiLaDo the tasting menu!My husband and I have now done the MiLa seasonal tasting menu twice, and both times it has been superb. Go hungry, it is a lot of food :) And we couldn't handle the wine pairings with food (way too much wine for us) the first time around so this time we just got a la carte drinks as we wanted them. AMAZING food from start to finish, and each dish is portioned so you can really enjoy it despite starting to feel pretty satisfied by the 4th course.
Some highlights...smoked redfish salad, roasted cauliflower soup with scallops and croutons and a little truffle (last time the soup was turnip and also simply amazing), delicately seasoned swordfish which made me realize I actually like swordfish :)5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSpring Tasting... WOW!My wife and I found ourselves in NO after a stay at a 5 star resort in Cancun and were looking keep riding the gourmet wave we had been on for the past week. After a few other choices in the neighborhood we were staying in we choose MiLa because of the spring tasting menu,(we love eating at places with these). All I can say is we were very impressed. We were 45 minutes early but seated right away. We were met by our server promptly and the gourmet overload was on! From the first bite of the smoked redfish to the chocolate peanut butter tart MiLa kept us smiling and wanting more. The white asparagus soup with scallops was amazing! The menu is exceptionally creative (creative cajun) and each dish was prepared with detailed care. We had four appetizers because we did not want to pass up any of them (green salad, the squash blossoms with crab filling, BBQ lobster (fabulous), and the 'white asparagus soup' with scallop and prosciutto). Would definitely go back, and back. The bar has a great ambience and a similar but shorter bar menu. Our server did not heed our request to bring the apps one at a time so we could savor each one, instead showed up with all four at once. Even when an item is something I normally detest such as mushrooms or broccoli if it is on the plate at Mila I will eat it and I will love it. They absolutely have never failed to make me stop, slow down, and savor my food. To top it all off during the week they have their 3 course lunch for $20, which is an absolutely incredible deal given the quality of the food. The service is thorough and well done, but still manages to feel casual enough to not seem overbearing. It was a great night out. When I looked at the menu I was a little stressed bc I thought that it might be too fussy for this group. I was wrong, the food was absolutely delicious and we all cleaned our plates, and the food was enjoyed by those among us with sophisticated palates and also the "burger and fries" group. The farm-to-table emphasis done up in a distinctly Southern yet modern approach is innovative and surprising. The deconstructed oysters rockefeller is one of my favorites. I had the seared tuna over blackened peas with a maple soy reduction that was lick the plate awesome. Service was outstanding as were our salads and the bread course.
