A word from Mikado at Desert Springs JW Marriott
The ancient tradition of the Samurai lives on at Mikado where knife-twirling chefs use fire and steam to create a mouth watering menu of steak, chicken and seafood delights. The highlight of the experience is the dazzling talents of your chef as he expertly chops, juggles, jokes and prepares an incredible meal right before your eyes. While you are led to your table through our private Japanese garden, notice the Koi swimming below and the sound of cascading waterfalls.

Mikado at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa is known throughout the Coachella Valley and Southern California as the leader in authentic Teppan-Yaki Dining.

But it doesn’t stop there! East meets West at the ultimate sushi bar where you can relax and enjoy the freshest foods and a signature martini or sake. Celebrate an intimate gathering or a private function up to 150 guests at Mikado where the food is the show! Arigato!

  • "My kids had never been to a hibachi grill and enjoyed the "show." Good, fun thing to do with a group or kids but the actual meal is just okay and expensive."

  • "Loved the entertainment.. In a very relaxed setting. Meant a really nice group of people, and also had plenty of time to the two of us as well. Really enjoyed the good and watching the chef prepare it in front of us. Haven't done this in years!! Will go back again next time were at this resort."

  • "Mikado's is a great place wwith great food. Located in the Desert Springs Marriott and on the weekends can be very busy with families and kids. Managers are attentive and we request the same server each time we visit which is several times a month. Although we would prefer an adult only table, well behaved children and parents are always a plus."

  • "I took my wife and 2 children (7&10) to Mikado the other night. What a great time! We took the bat ride from The Marriott Desert Springs to the restaurant. The driver was so great with my girls. We then walked through a Japanese garden which led to the restaurant. We were early for our reservation, but they were able to seat us in 5 minutes with 6 other people. The teppan table is amazing and fun. Our waiter was hilarious and made us feel very special. The food was delicious and cooked the way you requested. Our waitress was so sweet and helpful....our girls hugged her when we left. I can recommend Mikado without hesitation. If you don't have a great time, then there is something wrong with you."

  • "We've been dining with Mikados for over 10 years now. Sometimes with family members, sometimes just Suzanne and I. We travel frequently and love fine dining. It's one of our favorite here in California. Great service, great food and the Chefs are terrific!"

  • "Entertaining dining for the family, especially young kids. The meal is cooked in front of you with the cook doing fun things with knives and even popping shrimp into open mouths. Kids loved it! Food was good but restaurant is VERY noisy. You eat with others so if you are looking for a quiet conversation, this is not the place for you."

  • "I love Mikado, usually. But, on this occasion, it was disappointing. The service was slow from the waiter but then the chef cooked the food so fast. The veggies were underdone & the woman next to me said she didn't want mushrooms SO I got ALL mushrooms & very few other veggies, again all under cooked! I ordered an appetizer for my group but it came after the chef started putting food on our plate. I had been there 1 wk previously to celebrate a b'day for a friend. When asked if it was someone's b'day, we said YES and the chef/waiter said HAPPY B'DAY but that was it!! This last time, it was the b'day of someone else at our table & they brought them a special dessert & sang Happy Birthday getting the whole group involved. Just disappointing!!"

  • "I brought 6 other guests and we just had the greatest time. Great food, wines, a really enjoyable evening. The entertainment was great as well. Will definitely go back again. Everyone was laughing and the chef gets everyone involved. Fun to meet others at the Tappan Table as well Thank you Mikado"

  • "Very disappointed. I had requested a table with no children under 18. They sat 2 children with us. Teenagers ...which turned out to be fine until they came in with the other side of our and there were 6 children under the age of 10. One a small child who decided to scream and yell thru most of the meal.....that ruined our experience! They need a room special for children. And one for adults. I guess the food was good .... But it was so upsetting with the children we were not able to truly enjoy it I love children. I have 6 grandchildren .... I just choose not to dine with them. Would not recommend this place to our friends due to lack of care for their customers"

  • "When a chef is openly using canned corn and peas in front of you to prepare your food, its a huge disappointment -- especially because they charge a premium! Would not recommend!"

  • "My daughter and I were on a "girls getaway". This was a very nice experience. Taking the boat to dinner was amazing then the restaurant was very nice as well. This was a very nice treat for us. We may stay at this hotel in the future, I would assume it is more expensive than where we stayed but deffinately a great place to bioat to dinner :)"

  • "We opted for the front lounge where the energy was high, the food fresh and delicious instead of the quiet though aroma filled hibachi room. We were not disappointed in the meal though the server neglected to bring us the requested edemame until later, the quail's eggs were beautifully presented on little cubes of wasabi, the sushi and sashimi platters were plentiful and there were wonderful signature drinks"

  • "Boat ride, spatula-drum beat, flying shrimp... oh my! What a fun, memorable way for 13 of us to celebrate an 18 year-old's birthday!! Chef Mike was so funny -- an added bonus to an expectedly yummy dinner for all ages in the Teppan room."

  • "We have been snowbirds for many years and were introduced to the Mikado 20 years ago ~~ we enjoyed it then and almost every year enjoy bringing other people to your restaurant~~The "show" the chefs put on is very entertaining and the food is great ~~Your staff very friendly and attentive !! Always an "AWESOME" experience as the 10 year old in our party said after we got home ~~ The kids could hardly wait to get home to tell their friends and show them pictures they took of the whole evening ~~It was VERY nice to be able to make the reservations online !! Thank you for this service ~~"

  • "Mikado at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa is AWESOME! Super fun, super energetic, great for kids, special occasions and fun for just the two of us. We took the romantic boat ride over and were transported to another continent! It was a wonderful time and the food was amazing. Our chef was funny and enjoyable and kept the mood lighthearted."

  • "Stayed at the JW Marriott for the long Presidents day weekend and Valentines just happened to fall on the friday of our 4 day trip. We took our 14 year daughter with us and we all had a fun time. There was a set menu because of Vday so we each got miso soup, fried rice, and veggies. Hubby and I had the steak and lobster, daughter had chicken and steak entrees. The evening ended with a raspberry/chocolate dessert. We enjoyed the setting and watching our chef prepare the food right in front of us! We would definitely go back to Mikado again."

  • "From the romantic boat ride over to the Mikado, to the ambiance, to the great food and service, to the special Valentine's Day menu of filet mignon and lobster to the awesome Valentine dessert, and to our great chef, a memorable time. The best hibachi style restaurant! We've dined there many times...always excellent."

  • "Aida who we ask to be our server is outstanding. Remembers your requests and drinks each time. Food could be seasoned more. Wasnt pleased with the family who sat at our table Saturday. We would like to request an adult table only but we don't want to lose Aida."

  • "Six of us had such a fun evening with delicious food. Our chef was great. We will definitely share the starters next time, there is more than enough with just a bite or two in the way of an appetiser. Had not been to Mikado for ages and we had forgotten how good it is.."

  • "Food was very good though pricey which was to be expected at a Teppanyaki style restaurant. Our chef Mike put on a great show, similar to Benihana but with little twists. We came to celebrate our daughter's 25th birthday and they did a great job making it a special evening. The steaks were cooked to perfection and tender enough to cut with a fork, as was the chicken. The fried rice was moist but could have done with a little more seasoning. I liked how you felt you were in your own room but could see other diners as well."

  • "This is a FUN place to go. It also has good food simply prepared so most people will like the food. My granddaughter who is in college was on her way home for the holidays with her roommate so we chose to go here for dinner because of the fun factor. It's a bit on the pricey side though so we don't go here on a regular basis."

  • "Family-friendly and a fun-loving place. It depends on the group dynamics, since it's a shared table, but if you are game and open, there will be lots of laughter. We enjoyed ourselves. The food is good, especially the steaks, and there is a lot to eat. The fried rice is ok for me, I have tasted better. The ice-cream is a great way to end off the meal. Just remember the chef is cooking the teppan-yaki at your table, so your clothes will smell a little after the meal!"

  • "Nice atmosphere, nice waiter, a bit discouraged made a request for a specific Chef and did not get a response back. Did not get the Chef we requested. Food was good, appetizers, sushi rolls were very delicious. At the end of our Chef's cooking venue, he thanked us all,and left. Left us All wondering what happend to the toss shrimp they normally do at the end of the meal. . We asked the waiter. So the chef came back and did the shrimp toss to those who were anticipating more fun!"

  • "We come here every other year the night before Thanksgiving. We usually are with friends/family and it's made a nice tradition. The food was cooked to perfection and the chef is entertaining. My only complaint this time is our service was pretty slow. Didn't get refills on water and most of the time our waiter was no where to be found. Other than that we were happy and will continue to make this a tradition."

  • "We had a great time. We travel to Palm Springs every year (this is year 5) and make sure that we make reservations for Mikado's ahead of time. The service is great, the food is good and what is best is that we can count on everything going well for us. I love the consistency!"
