  • "I was looking forward to the classic ahi tuna tartare and lobster pot pie. The tartare was excellent as always. What happened to the lobster pot pie? It's deconstructive with an oval plate with a rectangular strip of pie crust on the side, two large fennel bulb in the center, some baby root veggie spread out than the lobster and the cream were poured over at table side. This must be the new version. Next time, I won't be ordering this. The prix-fix 9 course menu looked nice, but my husband doesn't eat shellfish. We ordered the tasting dessert which was really nice, which consists about 5 different desserts with each about 2 bite size. They were unique and not overly sweet. Ambience and service are great as always!"

  • "Despite a horde of servers rushing around pouring water and unfolding and folding your napkin for you, it took over 20 minutes for a server to approach our table and take a drink order. The food was very good but the focus did not seem to be on the food so much as the pretentious atmosphere. For these prices I expect and usually get a lot better overall experience. Would not go back or recommend to friends."

  • "This is my 3rd or 4th time here. Food has usually been very good or outstanding. This time was a bit of a disappointment. In general, the flavors didn't quite work as well together. There was also a lot of VERY chewy ingredients - Abalone, clams, something else were extremely chewy, even for abalone..."

  • "Expected more. Service was slow and waiter was unhelpful and inattentive. Best part of the meal was the cocktail. Doesn't compare to other top-rated options in the city."

  • "We had an amazing experience at Michael Mina---we went to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary (after attending Opening Day for the SF GIants), so it was a long day but the folks at MM couldn't have been more welcoming or accommodating---from the perfect table to the handwritten note by the general manager thanking us for choosing MM for our anniversary dinner, to the service to the unbelievable food and wine----it was fabulous! The staff at MM is amazing---they seem to communicate with each other silently and nothing goes unnoticed---the customers are taken care of down to every last detail---from pouring more water to a special dessert on the house for our anniversary."

  • "First time at this fine restaurant and it was great. We entertained out of country guests. Loved the trendy but not too spartan ambience. Food was very enjoyable, and requires top dollars!! (Very expensive.) Only real downside was the very very small and light grey font used on their menus. Along with the dim lighting ....was VERYVERy difficult to read. M. Mina should really consider their older customers who have the money to pay for such good dining. We had to pull out our iphones and use a mag/flashlight. Form should follow function is the old saying. We will go back with special friends and family."

  • "One of the best dining experiences I have had in SF. Great food, service and beautiful. Service is a combination of formal and friendly. It is a special occasion please that you could eat at twice a week. From the Maitre'D to the busboys it was top notch."

  • "This experience was a gift from our older son, and my husband and I were pleasantly surprised. The service was fantastic and the food was surprisingly filling, beautifully presented and very tasty! The restaurant decor is tasteful as well. It is a bit noisy for us, but others would say that the ambience is energetic. We are looking forward to a return visit."

  • "Boyfriend and I went to SF for our 5 year anniversary. We couldn't get a reservation at the restaurant we wanted, but we noticed on zagat that Michael Mina has an incredible rating. We were in shock throughout our entire meal. We thought the food was presented to us in an "iron chef" type of way Good was GREAT. Service was incredible. The chef brought us two complimentary tasters which were incredible. Our dining experience at Michael Mina was one of our best yet. We recommend everybody to dine there! Ps try the tuna tartar, mushroom risotto, and halibut!!"

  • "If you want lovely ambiance, lavishly attentive service, and fabulous food, Michael Mina is a must! We celebrated our anniversary at this wonderful restaurant and had an exceptional experience. The staff was friendly and helpful checking in often without being intrusive. The food was absolutely delicious and was beautifully presented. This is an expensive restaurant but you get what you pay for and more. Anyone looking for a special place to celebrate, this restaurant is for you!"

  • "Had the 9 course tasting, was ridiculously good food! Not cheap but worth every penny! Take a date and when you both do the 9 course tasting you get 18 dishes to share! Nothing negative to say! Wine selection was superb as well! 5 star food 5 star experience! Thanks Michael Mina!"

  • "Exceptional service, one of a kind food experience. The price was not kidding around though. Service was off the charts. I never saw a smudge on a glass, or even my own fork get dirty before it was replaced. The staff were polite and personable, without being too chatty or attempting to rush me. Although the good was incredible in tiny bites of flavor that had me stuffed by the end, it was the service that had me truly sold!"

  • "First off, I had made my reservations for the wrong night and they were wonderful about it and still seated us, although I could tell they were really packed! My husband ordered the 6 course Chef's tasting menu and I ordered the Lobster Risotto and Lobster Pot Pie. We both enjoyed each other's dishes as well as our own. Everything was delicious and paired with the wine so well. The service was also just outstanding! Looking forward to another visit to Michael Mina!"

  • "I took a prospective candidate to Michael Mina expecting an exceptional dining experience. The food was good not great as I had remembered it from 6 months ago. The service was very inattentive and often confused. The wine was great but rather overpriced. My guest who 'loves lamb' left more than half on his plate....... The dessert was great. Really noisy and tables far to close together both for conversation and service. I expected much more. Really disappointed - what has happened????"

  • "3rd visit and going to plan 3 more! This place rocks with Chef Ron at the helm (hey do you know he was the 1st Iron Chef to beat the Japanese Iron Chef?) Service deserves 10 stars not 5 - every Staff member rocks and thank you Jack who made us laugh while being so helpful. MENU: tuna tartare and short ribs ravioli = perfecto for sharing & they divided it so way cool it was as if we had 2 full orders, then Duck and Lamb after the comp starters (leek soup with grilled cheese sammy), and grilled bread with a honey marzipan that we had to indulge in twice! No room for Deeeezerts! It's not pricey considering the stellar level of service and the platinum level of food created on our plates. You gotta go to Michael Mina - yes go !"

  • "Second year in a row to celebrate a "team" dinner here... and as always, they did a great job! With a wine list that is not for the faint of heart, we "managed" to enjoy the diversity the list had to offer! We/I will definitely be back!"

  • "From the moment we arrived the service was pleasant and warm. We were seated and for most of the night we were doted on by a gentleman named Grant. After explaining the menu and giving us time to decide we ended up doing the taster's menu with wine pairings. We would not be disappointed. 9 courses, not included the appetizer and delicious bread, plus some surprise courses thrown in towards the end, amazing wine pairings and an ABSOLUTELY inspired pairing of soups with beer! I enjoyed how lively the restaurant was and we just took in all in stride, it just made the evening that much more fun. 5 hours later we were ready to leave and honestly felt like we had just returned from an amazing culinary journey around the world."

  • "The wait staff was very attentive and courteous. The space is roomy and beautiful. The food is really excellent and while it was enough food the portions were smaller than I am accustomed to. I rated the space as moderately noisy but I had no trouble conversing at a normal volume level. However, it was not a silent, intimate setting. It is a good place to take a guest to make him or her feel special."

  • "We were celebrating a birthday and found a hand-written note on the table from the general manager. Restaurant wasn't very full, a Sunday night, so a bit surprising that the waitress took a long time getting us menus and then taking the orders, but once that was done, service was excellent. Food overall was terrific. Best duck I've ever experienced; all the other entrees were delicious -- lamb, beef, scallops. The appetizers weren't quite as excellent but tasty; crab risotto was virtually an entree size. Curiously, dessert had fewer choices unless one did a tasting; ice creams were great. There were also two amuse bouche servings, and a special little choc cake for the b'day. Great meal, worth the Michelin Star, but quite pricey."

  • "This dining establishment is simply stunning . . . from the decor to the floral arrangements. The waitstaff was pleasant without being overbearing. Now for the food . . . The Ahi Tuna Tartare with ancho chile, habanero ,sesame oil, pine nuts & mint ($20) was very good - The Shabu with toasted sesame sauce, ponzu, local winter vegetables, prime beef coulotte ($17 per person) was fun and also very good - The Liberty Farms Duck Breast with morel mushrooms, gnocchi, curry, sorel ($44) and Herb Roasted Lamb with creamy farro, horseradish, bergamot, golden raisin purée ($47) were both just O.K. The entree's (in our opinion) were very expensive and just O.K. compared to that of one of our favorite restaurants (in this caliber), Jardiniere."

  • "Nice meal. Service by Jade was amazing - very attentive and accommodating. Appetizers were full of flavor - short rib tortelloni was delicious. Entrees were a bit of a let down, particularly the lobster "pot pie"."

  • "Food is great. Very expensive. Proportions are small but ideal for business lunch. For that price one expects superior service; i.e., check in more frequently to see if the food is to your liking, top off the coffee, refill the water, etc. No one should be looking around and trying to get the attention of the wait staff to address a need."

  • "I was so looking forward to lunch at Michael Mina Sf this week. I have been to a few of his other restaurants and my experience was fabulous. Can't say the same about this week. The service was just not there. Not that it's a big deal but our bread was delivered to the table after we ate our lunch. The food was okay. Compared to other high-end restaurants these days, we were not impressed, And for the $$$$ amount we were excepting better."

  • "This restaurant was loud and lacked character. The waitress was defensive and made excuses for over cooked scallops. The noise level was high and one had to shout to be heard. Little can be said about the ambiance and the art. The wait time was atrocious and I would not recommend this one if you are thinking service, quality, special occasion or fine dining."

  • "I finally found Chef Ron Siegel there! We used be a big fan of his. We are excited and started 18 dishes to share with two of us. I am sorry to say, but I was frankly disappointed with his new dishes, simply because of "TOO MUCH SOY SAUCE"!! Almost every dish has say sauce - it was just sad to taste salty dishes one after another. He is a great chef i admire, but Taste left on my tongoue was SAY SAUCE only! He should know how salty soy sauce is, and it dominates and spoils other subtle seasoning. Soy sauce is NOT sauce, but seasning like salt, you know. sorry, Mr. Siegel, unless you change menu and stop using soy sauce in your dishes, I would not go back. Too bad, really is."

  • "I used to love Michael Mina, but this experience was poor. The risotto overpowered the prime rib which had some grizzle table next to us said the same thing. Too heavy. The bread oily, dogn't need it with the cheese. Crab starter tasted really fishy, frozen. To top it off it was my friend's birthday, no candle when those around us received one. We had to ask for utensils. Really? You've gone down along way from the days at The Westin."

  • "it took 2/12 hours for us to have an appetizer and the one maine course !! When the maine course arrived finally after 1hour and 10 minutes ,it was it was just cold and terrible . 10 pieces of bay scallop with tiny bit of cauliflower around with some funny sweet garnished . Never again Michael Mina."

  • "Service is the number one gem of this restaurant. We went for our anniversary and had the 9 course tasting menu with wine pairing, probably a bit overboard, but we wanted the "full experience." The food was good, but not excellent, the wines were very good. The first few courses seemed a bit rushed, but slowed down after about course 3 and became more relaxed and enjoyable. Overall, a very nice experience!"
