Diner Reviews
  • "The food is great and we finished our lunch in under 45 minutes which is great if you only have an hour."

  • "Food was very average. We have eaten a lot of Mexican food, this is nothing like the food in Mexico.."

  • "I've been here before and good was good. This time asked for recommendation on food. Recommendation was awesome!! Glad I took it. There were 4 of us. 3 got great meals & 1 got plastic wrap in her food and almost choked on it. Yikes. Manager was very apologetic and comped her meal and threw in dessert as well."

  • "My wife and I went to Mez en route to RDU before catching a flight on a Sunday early evening. It is a nicely put together, upscale Mexican restaurant with courteous staff and a classy feel. The food was pretty good, not outstanding, and the menu was somewhat limited. Good find if you like Mexican food and want a more classy location to dine at. Warning: The Open Table map has the wrong location for restaurant (wrong side of I40). You can locate it on you Smartphone Map application though."

  • "Great restaurant - always consistent with quality food. Only critique - Mez should not seat children at the bar booths or tables. Adults intentionally sit here trying to get away from kids, so it is highly annoying when children are seated in this area (only happens occasionally, but very annoying when it does)."

  • "Always like coming here for lunch, just make sure you have a reservation if you want to eat during peak lunch hours (11:30 - 1:30 or so). Otherwise, you'll be waiting a little while, so if you have to get back to work, reservations are a must! Service was great as usual, chips & salsa appetizer was fantastic; go with the mango habanero salsa if you're feeling particularly spicy that day, its fantastic but has a kick! I usually get the chicken enchiladas with the mole sauce. This time they were just as delicious as always. The mole at Mez is a little spicier than most other places I've tried it, which is why I prefer it over the sweeter sauces. Service was prompt and attentive despite the full restaurant. Overall I was pleased, will return"

  • "Our waitress was very pleasant but we were given wrong appetizer and had to ask several times for the correct one. Good customer service would have left the incorrect order while we waited for the correct one. The portions were very small for the cost of the meal. We felt the food was very over priced. It looked as if there is a fairly priced happy hour menu. That would be the only thing I might recommend."

  • "The food was excellent. We brought friends and they loved it too. Drinks are always perfect too. I am used to waiters seeing if you have dined before and giving attention to newcomers and helping with menu, but that did not happen. Our waitress was good and nice just missed that bit I had become used to for company that I bring to Mez."

  • "If I were giving MEZ an appraisal on job performance, I would say "Exceeds expectations". Everything was very good, high quality in all areas."

  • "We had two 4 year olds with our group of 4 adults so we were nervous but it turned out great. Food was outstanding and fast service. Great kids menu items and the noise level was good for our rambunctious kiddos. Thanks so much! We also were thankful for a good gluten free menu as one of our friends has allergies to it."

  • "Food was amazing, selection great, and our server was incredible. We asked for some custom things (the kids wanted a salt rim on their shirley temples like mom's margarita) and all of our requests were filled with no problem. Highly recommended!"

  • "A friend and I arrived at 11am for my birthday brunch and were the first there. Appx 15 minutes later a couple was seated behind us. About 10 minutes after them, a lady was seated beside us. Both the couple and the lady were waited on AND received their appetizers and no one ever came over to say hello, give us menus or anything and so we left. When we tried to call the waitress over to our table she looked at us and kept walking. Very disappointing experience!"

  • "We have dined at MEZ several times and have always found the quality of food and service to be excellent. It is a GREAT Restaurant to visit for any occasion."

  • "Husband and I loved our food. The server suggested the shrimp dish and it was incredible. Good portions. The only bad thing was they were out of the desert special by the time we were ready to ask about it. Guacamole was good. The top shelf margarita was overpriced but good. Sangria was ok."

  • "This is a favorite spot for getting together with a small group for light conversation or business talk. My main issue is that it offers limited choices for those on a low carb diet. The Caesar salad is excellent, but pricey when you add a protein topping. I miss the Mez Burger (bunless, of course)!"

  • "Menu selection and diversity are orders of magnitude above typical "Mexican" menu choices - particularly with respect to seafood options. Consistently well prepared. I've never had a bad meal here. I've never received cold food. I've never had to send anything back. Service is also consistently good. Add to that the Research Triangle Park location, just off I-40 and walking distance from Quintiles's world headquarters, and you've got the perfect place for a business lunch, not to mention a great dinner."

  • "Have stopped twice at Mez on the way home from a hockey game and loved the food. Nice twists on old favorites. Especially fond of the grilled avocado with shrimp. An appetizer good enough for an entree for a small appetite."

  • "By itself, the fact that Mez serves caipirinhas makes it a destination of choice for me. On top of that, the drinks are exactly like the first ones I had in Madrid at a Brazilian bar. The guacamole and chips are superb, the chief indicator of quality in Mexican and Southwest USA food. This is the first time I had the carne asada tacos, and they were outstanding. I've eaten at this restaurant about eight times so far, lunch and dinner, and it has never been disappointing. The wait staff are charming and efficient. I look forward to my next visit."

  • "Guacamole appetizer was very good. The main dish I had was grilled tilapia over a jalapeno grits cake with verde sauce and a bit of avocado salsa. There was no detectable heat in the grits cake, and the verde sauce didn't seem to have much flavor at all. Overall acceptable, just quite bland - don't think I'd order it again."

  • "I would have given my small chopped romaine salad 4 stars - was fresh and nicely presented - It was gratifying to be able to choose between a large and small salad. Servers were pleasant and attentive although made no mention of our returning full plates at the end of the meal. Everything else was downhill - did not like the unpleasant taste of the seasoning on the rice - could not taste the cheese or onions in the spinach, cheese and onion enchiladas - was like mushy spinach stuffed inside a tortilla with a light forgettable sauce. The meal was expensive for the fare - $5 - $6 for oversalted chips and some tiny bowls of salsa. My husband's corn soup was quite thick and sweet. We went home and had a snack afterward - will not be back."

  • "Took my significant other out to Mez for her birthday. Food was really good. She's a vegetarian, I have to avoid gluten. Despite the double-whammy, Mez works on both counts, plus, they even had some gluten-free beer on the menu. Our server seemed a bit new but he could not have been nicer or more eager to please. If he didn't know the answer to something, he was comfortable asking someone who did. I respect that and attribute it to good training. When he found out we were celebrating her birthday, he brought out a wonderful dessert, compliments of Mez. Great service, food and atmosphere plus the best booths around. Comfortable, high back, intimate seating. A great evening."

  • "Mez is a relatively good Mexican restaurant from the food perspective; in terms of ambiance, it is much better than the usual Mexican restaurant. Food is nicely presented but, on this occasion, one order did not arrive with what the menu promised. The churros are memorable!"

  • "I've visited Mez several times, and the food and service has always been a pleasure. I wish they didn't charge for Chips and Salsa, but I like the food and the service. I've always gone with an Open Table reservation so I've never had to wait long for a table. It is a great date night place, and if you know you like the food type, it's a good place to eat. The brisket is my go-to meal, and always pleases. I've had their fajitas, and they are okay, but I consider them too 'normal' to get at a place like this that offers better offerings."

  • "I eat at Mez a few times a year. It is a good central spot for the Triangle. Parking is very tough especially around lunch time."

  • "Great place if you need a fun and very good restaurant in RTP and near the airport. We arrived at 5:15 and it was already getting full with the after-work crowd. They could not find my reservation, but seated us anyway. By 6:30 it was packed. Service and food were excellent."

  • "I've eaten at Mez three times - two dinners and one lunch. We had a small group this time and were celebrating my mother's birthday. Food has been consistently great. The only negative in my opinion is when the restaurant is full at lunchtime or on a weekend evening, it is very loud and difficult to carry on a conversation. One of my party is very hard of hearing and I asked for a table that was in a quieter location but I guess that request couldn't be accommodated, which is understandable when a place is so popular! 518 west in Raleigh is also one of my favorites and when I learned the two were affiliated, I was eager to try Mez and wasn't disappointed."

  • "We dined at Mez before a show in Durham. Our server was very pleasant and quick. The food was very good as usual. The chips were warm and fresh. I ordered the carne asada tacos. I was given 3 generously filled tacos with a side of red rice and black beans. The rice and beans were fresh and seasoned well. My dining partner ordered the empanada appetizer and a side of black beans. The side of beans was big enough for two people and the empanadas were a meal unto themselves. We shared the special dessert which was a chocolate mousse cake. It was delicious!"

  • "It was too loud, couldn't hear my dining companions."

  • "The food was great and came out fast as usual. This is what we have come to expect from Mez. The only complaints I have is I sent an email about a Sweet Potato soup that had been on special in December that I really wanted but no longer showed on the website menu, I never got a response from the email I sent via the website "contact us". Then I asked the waitress to ask the cook if it might be available just not on the menu and she acted like it was a joke. I told her to please ask the cook and she never did. She also did not keep up with our drinks and it took her 10 minutes to bring us anything we asked for (water, refill of coffee, desert menu). But this is a reflection on the waitress, not the restaurant."

  • "We went to Mez on Sunday, February 9, with four friends --two had never been there and two had eaten only outside. Our original reservation was for 5 of us; when we wanted to add 2 more, they could give us only a separate table. However, they were able to fit us all at one table once they had a cancellation, and they let us know as soon as they could, which we greatly appreciated. The food, as always, was tasty. It is not standard Tex-mex, which I think is great, but it is best if people know that before they go so they are not disappointed. The menu is more creative than standard Tex-mex, and the quality of the ingredients is high. It is noisy so not the best place for a group to converse. Parking can be tight."

  • "The food, as always, is excellent. The service is OK, but is no better than what one would get at a chain restaurant like Chili's or Friday's. Why do servers interrupt conversation by asking, "Is everything OK", or near the end asking, "Still working on that?" when one is raising food to one's mouth with fork in hand. If clearing tables is a priority, just set an egg timer on the table, and when the alarm sounds, we'll know to leave. These are my pet peeves, and while I would expect this at Chili's, I would expect better from Mez. Did I mention the food is great?"
