Diner Reviews
  • "We went on a package to go to the top of the tower and then dinner. The ambiance was great but the service was not. One of our friends asked for a glass of Chardonnay and the sommelier recommended he try a rose (he agreed) but tasted and didn't like (it had turned) and the sommelier brought it to him and hadn't noticed. We had to ask repeatedly for wine, water, and other table items. My wife ordered short ribs and was assured it came with minimal sauce, but instead came smothered in sauce and it took 20 mins to get the waitress' attention to send it back. At the end of the night we found out that regardless of party size they add 20% gratuity and that all wait staff are on salary (don't work for tips). We could not reduce the tip amount."

  • "we had a fantastic evening at the restaurant and viewing Chicago from the Willis Tower. the views from the bar area and the restaurant itself are equally amazing! we did the travel zoo voucher and were a little concerned about some of the somewhat negative reviews, but we had a fabulous time with great service and great food! our waitress told us that the mandatory 20% surcharge, did cover their tips but that they did not get the whole thing. We did give a tip above that just to ensure our waitress got her fair portion! and since we had a lovely anniversary evening!"

  • "The service I received was horrible. Our waiter never asked how was our meal, our meal was not cleared for about 20 minutes after we finished eating. Drinks were not replenished and parking was a big issue"

  • "Wonderful first class restaurant definitely for club membership patrons. So glad we get to enjoy it too. Service is four or five star and the lobster macaroni is to die for. Just perfect could not add anything further."

  • "I got engaged and then had dinner that evening at the Metropolitan Club. They treated us like we were the king and queen of England. Nothing but friendly service all night along with outstanding food."

  • "This is a great place to spend time at for an event or any kind of special time. Great food, great view, great service. Very romantic. Suggest going at sunset."

  • "Extremely nice, pleasant staff. Our waitress had a great personality and was very attentive, This restaurant is elegant, but not over-the-top where you feel uncomfortable or out of place. The level of noise wasn't too quiet where you had to whisper, but it wasn't too noisy either. We were able to enjoy some conversation and laughs. The food was great. I didn't think I would ever order macaroni and cheese at a nice restaurant, but when I read "Lobster Mac & Cheese" on the appetizer menu, I couldn't resist. It was AMAZING. I had beef tenderloin for my entrée, which was made to perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. My fiancée and I came as a post engagement celebratory dinner, and we couldn't have been happier."

  • "The meal was excellent! From the scallop appetizer to the lamb chops to the chocolate mousse, everything was great. The view of the west side of chicago at night was a bonus."

  • "We went to The Metropolitan Club restaurant for our anniversary dinner. It had very good food and a wonderful view of the city. We had a table by the window. It was a quiet, lovely atmosphere with good service. We had a prefix menu which we were not expecting. It was the day after Valentine's Day. Even though we were looking forward to choosing from the menu that we saw on line, the food that was chosen for us was exceptional."

  • "It was fun to celebrate my husband's birthday even though it was Valentine's Day for everyone else. the 5 course special dinner and wine pairings were delicious. The best was the option to go to the sky deck on beautiful clear evening. We almost missed it as the host told us we could go after dinner but did not mention they closed the deck at a certain time. The elevator conductor allowed us to go up and the staff upstairs were fantastic - even taking our pictures and not rushing us."

  • "Never been a big complainer but just wanted to express how disappointed I was in the experience on 2/14/14. I understand that it was Valentine's Day, a uniquely busy yet profitable one for most restaurants. However, Metropolitan Club over-extending its ability to provide a great experience for some of it's customers. Paying what i assume was the same pre-fixe rate for all diners, we were seated in the overflow section of the restaurant in the bar. Further, the servers seemed to be temps and were completely unaware of the menu and only seemed to place food on the table and pour wine flights without any explanation of what was being served. Mediocre, lukewarm dishes, poor service and terrible atmosphere does not make for a +$310 experience."

  • "Overall, disappointed. Was looking forward to having a "special" time at a big name restaurant that demanded big prices thinking it would be worth it. Unfortunately, it did not pay out. It was not a terrible experience just not great."

  • "The experience here was beyond outstanding. The genesis of this culinary adventure began with the security protocol after entering the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) meaning that security was paramount. Seated by a window on the 67th floor at night conjures an enhanced romantic backdrop. The appetizers as well as the main course was phenomenal. The aura of it all gave an impression that you were alone on top of the world. The service was undeniably on point and you were never for want for anything. They were pleasant, knowledgeable, and super efficient. Questions regarding of other services and offers that the club provided were explained as references were produced. Highly recommend this establishment for many reasons. Wow!"

  • "The Metropolitan Club is a private club that opens their doors on Restaurant week. My wife and I took advantage of the opportunity and took our sons there for dinner. The experience was everything we had hoped for an more. We were blessed with a clear night so our table near the window offered an amazing view of the city. Food was fantastic and our waitress Esther, was exceptional. We will definitely be back next year."

  • "First I got an over-done steak. A second one came and it was cold. Overall, my entree was disappointing. But the appetizer bisque, dessert and wine were delicious! Our waiter was friendly and informative, but the other server who brought the food was incompetent. She forgot, dropped, or switched at least one thing every time she came to our table. Overall, I expected A LOT more from this "members-only" restaurant. I would not return."

  • "It's not often one has the opportunity to dine in the Willis Tower, therefore as soon as we saw that the Metropolitan Club was part of Chicago's Restaurant Week we had to make a reservation! Going through the metal detectors and security was a bit new..but all part of the experience. Upon arrival they took our coats and seated us promptly. My husband and I had an amazing view to the city of Chicago, almost like a fairy tale. The menu for restaurant week is a fixed menu, but don't worry there is plenty to choose from. I had the Wild Mushroom Bisque, the Penne Alfredo with Pastrami Salmon and my husband got the Panko Dusted Oysters and the Petit Sirloin Steak (which he said was the best steak he's ever tasted!) We were very pleased!"

  • "This place was a wonderful stop for our anniversary this year! The view was gorgeous! We got there in time to see sunset and then watch the city lights come on! We were here for Restaurant week, and the menu was phenomenal. My date and I ordered different dishes for each course, and they were all impeccable. Our waiter was incredibly nice, and every one that brought our food to us was equally courteous. It's a bit difficult to find, so give yourself some extra time to figure out where you're going in the building. The ambiance is definitely very mellow. My one complaint was the background music. Classic rock? Really? No. Try harder. Everything else was exceptional!"

  • "...since we didn't get any. I've eaten here for Restaurant Week a few times, but for some reason this year was a disappointment. We arrived at 7:30 to have drinks in the lounge (no HD on the TVs) before our reservation. At 8:30, the host came over to seat us but told us that we have to order by 9:00pm and that they close at 10:00pm because "they are a private club." We waited for the cocktail server to run our check, but that about 10 minutes. Then we felt rushed for the entire evening as the food came out very quickly. The flavors were underwhelming and the waitstaff could not get our drinks correct or paired on time. The dishes weren't served to the correct diner all night. If RW is a way to recruit, I wouldn't join this club."

  • "Food and service was great. The check had a unexpected surprise. On the reservation it states they put an automatic 20% service charge leading you to believe its for service I.e gratuity. In actuality its a 20% charge just to dine in their restaurant because its a private club Then when you get your bill not only are you charged 20% for that now you also have to tip another 20% to the waiter. And the 20% club charge is on the total amount of the bill. I just found it very sketchy that nowhere does it state club charge. I will never return and I will also warn others. Be up front with your charges so guests can make an informed decision"

  • "Great service, Great Food. Jimmy was fantastic. For membership only club I was very surprised to find this. Bartender was the only disappointment, in main bar, he was not attentive it took 15 minutes to get a drink and there was only 9 of us at the bar."

  • "Although I have been to the Metropolitan Club for functions, this was the first time going in a "date" situation for an anniversary. Even with the cloudy view, it was "low" enough to still see all the lights as well as add to the ambiance of the room. Classy music, classy décor and high level of service to boot made it for a memorable evening although there have been better for us. This is still a place I would recommend, however, and you may want to bring a good wine budget but know that it will be worth it because they also have an excellent wine selection with a Muscato D' Asti that will be a hit and a decent selection of reds from the important places especially Spain. Do the Scallops, do the Tuna, Do the Lamb Chops :)"

  • "This is a great location for a romantic dinner - I proposed at the Skydeck on the 103rd floor just prior to our meal. The waitstaff gave meaningful recommendations on the food and were very polite. The food was excellent and reasonably priced for a high end restaurant, although there could be bigger portions. The part that impressed me the most was that I left a bag of souvenirs by accident and then had to drive back to Minnesota the next day, so they weren't open for me to pick them up. I just called to let them know and the staff kindly shipped them to me and really made my day!"

  • "Best view in the city, 67th floor. Food was above average. My girlfriend and I went, she got White Russian I got glass of red. She got soup I got salad, she got pork chop I got wild Diane (beef tenderloin, very good). $110."

  • "Great location..they do charge a 20 percent service fee plus tip. Very romantic and a great view. We bought our skydeck tickets at the club and went up in a vip elevator to the skydeck. The line was very long to get down, so we returned to the vip elevator and got lucky because another group was just coming up and we got in and went back down to the club, avoiding the massive line."

  • "This restaurant is made for members. They were not very welcoming to us. Came on a Thursday night there was no one in the whole place. Went to so many better places in the week we were in Chicago. Skip this place stay on Michigan Ave."

  • "But people who love their meat will be more than satisfied. The online menu posted on Open Table had atleast 5 vegetarian entrees/ dishes. When my wife and I went there, there were only 2 and the rest had been removed from the menu. What we did get was ok, not great. A bit of a let down. But our server was very good. So was the ambience. There was only one other table besides us and when they left, it was just me and my wife in the entire restaurant area. Will go there for the view and ambience, but never again for the food. Meat eater may definitely find the restaurant to their liking."

  • "Decent food, but was surprised with a 20% added to the bill due to the Club. This wasn't for the service, it was an extra fee and then you put on the gratuity. I didn't like that surprise and I won't go back there. That uptick should be noted when reserving."
