Diner Reviews
  • "If you choose to dine at the Restaurant at Meadowood, know that you are going for the experience of a Michellin 3 star restaurant and not for the food. My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary. We did the 12 course tasting menu with the wine pairing. The service experience was impeccable. When you arrive at your table there is a hand written note (bonus points for using sealing wax), everyone greets you by name, knows whatever occasion you are there to celebrate, and is there to meet your every need. The wine pairings were well selected and wines we would not have chosen for ourselves but very much enjoyed. With a tasting menu you are getting small bites at each course. For the price they should be amazing bites but they weren't."

  • "The entire evening was magnificent in every way. Very warm and friendly staff!"

  • "Our dinner was a memorable experience. Each course was a work of art that stimulated all your senses. Each bite had an incredible mix of textures and flavors. The staff was most attentive, friendly and approachable, and their attention to detail was amazing. We appreciated how they tailored the courses to the constraints of each member of our group. Nathaniel gave us a special treat after dinner by pouring 100-year old Madeira for our party of four. The final tour of the kitchen showed allowed us to meet Christopher Kostow and his staff, and we were truly impressed by how orderly they operate, and how much fun they seem to be having."

  • "Visiting from Europe, I wanted to find out what 3 Michelin stars in the US mean, compared with 3 Michelin stars in Germany and France. I was absolutely fascinated from the quality of the courses and the wines I was offered and from the perfect service I was given! Those 3 stars are of the same highest quality than what you usually get from 3 star restaurants in Europe! The ingredients, the composition, the balance of each single course, starting with the first Amuse until the very end, was just amazingly phantastic! Whenever I have the Chance of being back in Northern California, I am sure to visit The Restaurant at Meadowood again! A truely perfect dining experience! Phantastic!"

  • "Had a great meal! The restaurant called a week before the dinner and asked about allergies and food likes and dislikes. On the actual day my wife and I got some dishes the same and a few different which was fun. Each dish was small, and the entire meal took nearly 4 hours. There were 9 courses, plus an amuse bouche and final chocolate, all delicious. My wife and I studied the wine list beforehand and decided to get a Burgundy and Grüner Veltliner instead of the wine paring. We were able to choose wines less than the cost of the pairing, and we think our choices were as good as or better than the paring for all but the one beef course. We are already talking about going back."

  • "We had the pleasure of dining recently at the counter inside of the kitchen. The food and experience of watching and interacting with the kitchen staff and chef Chris Kristow are so special. Chef is so creative and so approachable...and a darn nice guy! We look forward to our next visit. We are foodies for sure and I think was our best ever experience and we've done French Laundry, Guy Savoy and others!"

  • "What Chef Chris Kostow is doing here is truly amazing. His creativity is genuine, each plate takes you on a different journey, and every element on the plate has a purpose. You can tell that he's not just following a trend or making a foam to have a foam on the plate. Rather he's delivering an experience that's all his own. This should be on everyone's list of "Places to eat before I die"."

  • "We went there with a slight understanding of how great the restaurant was to be. But, we were blown away by the experience. Staff was so extremely friendly and informative. The food was beyond amazing. Although, pricey especially with the wine pairing. However, given the level of service and what an amazing experience this was, it was well worth it."

  • "This was truly a magnificent meal! I would equate this meal to our experience at Alinea in Chicago, another 3 Michelin Star recipient. We also thought the meal and journey of flavors was noticeably better than The French Laundry. First of all the place was beautiful in its own private estate off the Highway. The decor was nice but not too stuffy. The service was immaculate. All of our dishes were beautifully prepared. We especially liked the Black Cod, Kohlrabi , Spiny Lobster, Poussin, and Abalone. They were all so flavorful. The most memorable dish was the Olive Oil Coconut Borage. The olive oil brought the dessert to life. The flavor was indescribable. I hope to go back to this place soon."

  • "Service was impeccable. Presentation and creativity of dishes was phenomenal. Everything tasted great. And being able to go back to the kitchen and talking to the chefs was a great touch. Making the obvious comparison to The French Laundry, the environment and ambiance was more laid back and comfortable. The service was unbelievable and may be marginally better. Although The French Laundry had more memorable dishes regarding taste/flavor, it also had 1 or 2 slight misses. There wasn't a single dish at the Restaurant that wasn't amazing, but none of their dishes compared to the best dishes at French Laundry. My wife and I were split on which we liked better, but both definitely lived up to their Michelin stars."

  • "I've eaten at a number of incredible, well-reviewed restaurants, but nothing approached my experience at the Meadowood. I'm still digesting the extent of the event. The service was impeccable from the moment I stepped out of my car door to the moment I stepped back in. The food was an amazing both visually and on the palate. Most importantly, it made me stop and consider a whole new avenue of what is possible with food."

  • "This is a gourmet foodie's delight. It was over the top for my husband and our friend, but I really enjoyed the experience. Every bite was an adventure and I enjoyed every one. The synchronized service and presentation was well done. The 12 courses offered amazing flavors and textures. At the end, it was interesting to be invited to see the kitchen, where it all gets made. The only negative was that the manager was clearly angry at one of the servers and it was uncomfortable to witness him chastised in front of us while in the kitchen."

  • "I have been a fan of Chef Kostow's food for many years and it just gets better every time I go. And he has an amazing team that diligently manages all aspects of the experience start to finish to ensure it is unforgettable. I only wish I could afford to go more often!"

  • "In the end, the experience was just bland. Pretty food, nice people, tiny portions, and minimalistic decor; all adding up to less than the individual parts alone. This was just not interesting or compelling in the totality and the lasting impression is one of a beige blandness. Great for foodies but the seasoned of high expectation, romantics and adventurers will be happier elsewhere."

  • "that one word sums it up! Farm to table integrates with splashes of creativity from an eclectic mix of influences from across the globe. Most notably IMO japan."

  • "The Restaurant at Meadowood lived up to the hype. The courses were imaginative and beautifully presented. Olin was our exceptional "host", taking us along this leisurely dining adventure. We ordered the 12 course "tasting" menu, which still put a dent in the pocketbook. Portions were small, but appropriately sized, and we left full, yet not satiated. To top off the evening, we were taken to meet Chef, whose kitchen was impeccable. We felt like celebrities. Definitely a special occasion restaurant. I hope I have another special occasion to return. I'll save my pennies so next time I can order the full menu and sit at the table in the kitchen. The Restsurant at Meadowood has set my bar high for Michelin 3-star restaurants."

  • "We had a late night seating at Meadowood (9:00, coming from Central time) - and though we didn't pick the chef's counter (which we would do next time) we had a very personal and friendly experience. Despite the beautiful decor and high end environment, it was somehow still amicable and comfortable at the same time. We met the chef, and made a great connection with the staff. Every dish was delicious and unlike others we've had at other fine dining establishments. One of the highlights was crispy kale snacks served from the garden on top of pages in a book - it was such as nice touch! We'll be back, next time to the chef's counter hopefully!"

  • "I consider myself to be very particular about food and generally an extremely reliable food critic. The entire experience at Meadowood is second to none. It so happens I had reservations at The French Laundry the following night and Meadowood is without a doubt the more innovative, modernized, and exciting restaurant. Its not just how perfectly executed the food is, but also the manner in which it is presented, and the supreme innovation that went into the creation of each dish. Just an amazing experience that I would recommend to everyone, you will not be disappointed."

  • "We will talk about this experience for a very long time. It was an experiment in letting go and trying new food that is innovative, unusual and unique. The service staff is knowledgeable and guides the experience well. It is a matter of trust and the beauty of letting go. Exploring the mystery of food is an adventure or journey; in the same way one would explore wonderful music, by opening minds and hearts. If the culinary arts are to be fully appreciated then getting out of comfort zones should be done with the very best the art has to offer. This is a cultural experience that should not be missed."

  • "We splurge on nice nights and tasting menus every now and then, and this one by far is the best we've ever done. The ambiance was so laid back, which is unusual for a place like this and we loved it. There's no way to describe the food other than to say it was unbelievable. The service was also some of the best we've ever experienced. If you are considering The Restaurant at Meadowood, you won't regret it."

  • "As Napa Valley locals we are spoiled by the number and quality of restaurants to choose from. For a special occasion we went as a family of four to Restaurant at Meadowood. The entire experience from reception at our vehicle through to departure was well and tastefully orchestrated. The food was inventive, clever, and surprising. We were made to feel welcome and appreciated throughout the experience with not even a trace of haughty attitudes."

  • "I understand now why we received the reaction we received when we would ask locals for dinning recommendations while in Napa Valley. As they would name their recommendations they would be very matter of fact, but when we asked them about Meadowood, their tone would become reverent. It was physically noticeable, and now we know why. We enjoyed the trip and would return, but not for any of the other restaurants. We would visit again, from the east coast, for the sole reason to have a meal at Meadowood, and plan to do so the next few months. It was that spectacular. Curb to curb, the single best experience I have ever had."

  • "One of the best, if not the best, 3-star restaurant I've been to in the United States. Innovative menu and impeccable service. We will return!"

  • "Looked forward to this dinner for my 50th B-day for a couple months. While no problems and everybody was REALLY nice the food was not at all memorable. We have been to all the 3 star and most 2 star restaurants East of Chicago and we have had better food at a few 1 star places. The food was creative and beautiful but just not very flavorful for the most part. The deserts were UNBELIEVABLE, both may have been the best 2 deserts either of us have EVER eaten. I am happy for the experience but would not consider going back. The French Laundry, just a few miles away, is SO much better, same price when you include tip. They did give us a tour of the kitchen was was very cool of them, so many people working in the back, amazing."

  • "What a find. We experienced the most amazing twelve course meal that was paired with the sommelier 's pick of wines. The courses were small so it was not a pig fest. Each course was a work of art and incredibly delicious. In our opinion, we liked this restaurant better than the French Laundry. It is not as pretentious and the food is as good. At the end of the evening we toured the kitchen which was a lot of fun."

  • "Meadowood is a must-have experience for food lovers who enjoy creative and delicious plates, beautifully presented. Every single course was a piece of art and a reflection of the Chef's ingenuity and originality. The wine pairings matched the food perfectly. They were however served a bit too rushed for my taste. (If you already see two glasses in front of me, delay the next course(s) in order to catch up with wine, don't serve me the next wine pairing!) Overall, an unforgettable evening, can't wait to return!"

  • "This was our second time at Meadowood, and it was fabulous. This was the best Michelin 3 star restaurant we have visited, including several in France. Unique food with inspired preparation, and perfect wine choices for the wine pairing with the tasting menu."

  • "Took my wife for our 35th Anniversary. Even though it was a 12 course tasting menu, was not overfilled with food. The service is fantastic, from the time you drive on the property until you are reseated in your car to leave for home. The pillow on a pillow dish was fantastic. My wife didn't like the vegetables, but she enjoyed all the other dishes, this is a woman who doesn't eat oysters, she enjoyed them. We will return again."

  • "The restaurant at Meadowood leaves you with no doubt how it achieved its Michelin stars. It was not one of, but THE most fantastic dining experiences we have ever had. Each and every delicacy was a piece of art in both food preparation and presentation. We kept talking about it for the last 3 days since we were there. Don't spend your life without having this experience at least once."

  • "In our opinion, better than French Laundry…ambiance, music, service, and of course the incredible 15 courses of food all came together to create a perfect evening to celebrate my wife's milestone Bday! Thank you to Christopher and the 60+ staff that they had on hand! Amazing experience!"

  • "This was the last stop on our effort to eat at all 2+ Michelin star restaurants in NorCal. My wife and I agreed this was the best. Better than French Landry, better than Manresa, just better. Every course was amazing - no letdowns. The service was fantastic, but not over the top. As a beer lover in wine country, I particularly appreciated the bartender (Sam) taking the time to go over his extensive beer list. He made great recommendations and knew what he was talking about."

  • "It was our first time eating at the Restaurant for my wife's birthday and it was an incredible experience. While the service was somewhat more formal than we expected, it was very professional and cordial. The individual plates were mind-blowing and the fish and beef courses were done as well as any that I have had in any dining experience. While there was creativity and whimsy present throughout the menu, it was the spot-on execution on every dish that enthralled us. Simply put, one of the best restaurants in the U.S. (and probably the world)."

  • "The Restaurant at Meadowood knocked it out of the park. The food was innovative, beautifullly presented and flavourful with the right balance and fluidity between the various courses. Service was personable and impeccable; more than the polish that you come to expect from fine dining. Everyone at the restaurant - from the greeters, to the barman, to the many servers, sommmeliers etc; they anticipated needs, and were elegant and effortless in their service. The courses were very well thought through, linked well together and had that elusive charrm of so beautifully thought through and preparerd that it came across as effortless and etheral."

  • "From the moment we walked in the door until we walked back out it was an amazing dining experience that any true foodie would appreciate and enjoy. Was very fortunate to get a table when we did and couldn't have been happier. Not only were we impressed with the service, the phenomenal food and the fine details to the restaurant itself. To date this was the best food and wine pairing I've ever had and I've had many. It was exquisite and perfect a true testament to the Chef & Sommelier collaboration."

  • "We have dined at the best restaurants in the world, and with that as a measuring stick I can say this was truly an exceptional experience. Not only was the service flawless and professional, it was also warm. The presentation of most of the courses was told as a story regarding the inspiration for the dish, which really enhanced the dining experience. The chef and his team are incredibly creative and can make the most basic vegetable come to life into an incredible course. Thank you for your hospitality and creativity."
