  • "What an amazing experience! If you are into good food and wine, treat yourself to this experience!"

  • "Our second visit, and once again, Chef Clayton knocked our socks off. The food and wine pairings were divine. This is our favorite place to visit in wine country."

  • "This is always my go-to spot in the wine country. There's no better way to learn about wine and food pairings than from two expert chefs who are so obviously passionate about what they do. The limited seats provides an intimate culinary experience with plenty of opportunity for conversations with Chef Clayton. And the food is always delicious, perfectly paired with a number of small dishes. I'm a vegetarian and the alternative meal is always delicious. Add this to your next Sonoma trip!"

  • "This is hands down one of the best food and wine pairings available. The chef is fantastic at explaining how the food and wine go together, the nuances of each pairing, and is an all around funny guy. The dining experience was incredible with just a few small tables in the restaurant, and a wonderful view of the mountains from pretty much any seat in the house. Great place to go if you're in the sonoma valley!"

  • "As always, graet food pairing with Mayo wine. Thanks Clayton! Always an exceptional sensory experience. Looking forward to our next visit."

  • "We had not heard of Mayo Wines, and that's because they just sell them at the winery. The tasting was superb. We really enjoyed the experience. The chef has worked at French Laundry and it shows. Unusual pairings with extremely high qualify food. Good overview of why the chef selected each dish for each wine. Definitely a place to return to. Excellent value!"

  • "Nothing in the exterior or interior of the Reserve Room prepares you for the quality of the food and the pairings. Not only were we very pleasantly surprised by the wine and the foods that enhance them, but the education we received by the amount of time Chef Lewis spent with us is rarely matched in either Sonoma or Napa Valleys. For any wine lover and/or foodie, it is a must. At $35, you cannot miss."

  • "Six wine glasses are paired with corresponding tapas. Each wine and tapas combination is elloquently described by the chef. The wine, tapas and service were all excellent. Overall a unique culinary experience. However, the actual food quantity was small and I ended up being quite hungry after the event was over. I had to go to another restaurant and ended up eating a hamburger."

  • "This is a great food and wine experience. Seven small plates paired with a wine. Each pairing is explained thoughtfully and knowledgeably by the head chef. A great place to bring visiting guests who love food and wine."

  • "This is without a doubt the best wine and food pairing in the country! Not only is the food of the highest quality, but the menu is skillfully crafted and preparations reflect a deft touch that only a true food artist could create. What's more, presentation is interesting and each course is accompanied by a full description of the food ingredients, the wine notes and nuances to expect, and the philosophy of how they will interact with one another to elevate each. Truly a top-notch Experience. Tres bien!"

  • "Very nice pairing of a small but excellent wines. Able to provide personal attention during tasting"

  • "Beautifully prepared and exquisitely crafted small bites paired thoughtfully and creatively with great wines...I had been here several years ago (under a different chef) and was thrilled it continues to be a memorable destination experience. I have had other pairings and this is my standard of excellence...the chef's warmly explained the pairing and the dessert finale..I never write reviews but was inspired to do so!"

  • "This was a return visit for us. It is a fun and educational experience to dine here. The owner always selects food that pairs well with the reserve wines. And he gives such in-depth information about each wine and the types of food that pair best with each. Always a great experience."

  • "I had read a Bay area review citing The Mayo Reserve Room as the best deal in Sonoma Cty for a good and wine pairing, and I have to agree. Chef J. Clayton Lewis not only prepared us what amounted to a delicious light lunch, but he knowledgeably answered our questions and talked to us about the Mayo wines that accompanied each of the seven items he served us. We were the only ones in the joint, another couple departing just as we came in, so we were most attentively catered to. I intend to return with at least one group of out of town friends as this feels like a uniquely Sonoma county wine experience."

  • "We visited this multiple times in the past and always enjoyed this food and wine pairing; several years ago, however, it really went downhill. Bad service, mediocre food, etc. On a recommendation from Landmark Winery, we tried Mayo again and what a welcome surprise! It is as good (or better) than it was 5-6 years ago when featured in the Wall St. Journal. Clayton Lewis, head chef is amazing; super creative with the food and really knows how to explain it all and how the food matches with their wines. This is a must try place (reservations required!) whenever in the wine country and worth the drive from anywhere. The wines are much better than the food and wine pairing at St. Francis down the road also. Don't miss this!"

  • "The wine and food pairing at Mayo Reserve room is a treat. We were served by the chef who gave delectable descriptions of the wine and food. There were 2 servings of three "bites" each and then a final desert. His food is lovely and it's an experience worth having!"

  • "Great time with chef Clayton & Edwin. Fantastic wine especially the 2011 merlot & Viognier paired with delicious food. 7 wine, 2 white 4 red & a port. Amazing food .. Perfect pairing. Meet some fantastic wine lovers as well. What more can we ask for?"

  • "I will now only go to this food and wine pairing in Wine Country. Great deal, and incredible service! The chefs know so much about the wine and every bite of food they put in front of you. They clearly have put so much time and energy into preparing this menu. I have convinced every person I have taken to this food and wine pairing to join the winery themselves."

  • "A great find in Sonoma county. One of the gems that hasn't been found yet. Been there a few times, and will keep coming back."

  • "We're periodically in the Kenwood area and so have patronized the Mayo Reserve Room on several occasions. The chef changes the pairings menu each quarter based on wines he has decided to feature. There are 7 pairings in all, with beautifully rendered small sample-size gourmet servings progressing from lighter fair through main course selections and concluding with dessert, each matched with an appropriate wine. Each time we have stopped by the fare seems better than the time before, and our visits have been spread out enough we've never seen anything twice. The Reserve Room is quite small, so be sure to make your reservation in advance and expect to spend a couple of hours for one of the best experiences the Sonoma area has to offer!"

  • "We had lunch here with the food and wine pairings and it was amazing! The young chef explained each dish and the thoughts that went in to each combination. We completely enjoyed it and i would highly recommend it. It was also an amazing value for the quality of both food and wines presented."

  • "We had a really good time at the Mayo Reserve Room and I would recommend it as an experience to try at least once. The wine host and both chefs were absolutely wonderful and made us feel very welcome. It was great fun to try 7 wine and food pairings and to hear very interesting and inspiring explanations of why a particular pairing was chosen. That said, while overall fairly good, I didn't find either food or wine to be very special, particularly in the Wine Country, the area which has so many outstanding choices. But I have to say - everyone around us (us included) was having a great time."

  • "This food and wine pairing is a lovely was to spend the afternoon in Sonoma. The chef and wine room employee were both extremely helpful and friendly. The food paired perfectly with the Mayo family wine. Would return for sure and recommend to friends."

  • "We have enjoyed this wonderful tasting room in the past, but we thought the chili-cheese-dog theme of the autumn menu left much to be desired."

  • "If the "stand at the bar and fight the crowd" wine tastings are not for you, here is a superb and civilized, sit-down and enjoy experience that will impress your friends and bring smiles to all of you. Six wines, each paired with its own unique small plate food creation. The wines at Mayo Family Winery are superb: well-made, balanced, single vineyard, and elegant; the zinfandel is among the best in Sonoma County and the pinot noir is a fine wine. The sous-chef, Edwin, was absolutely a perfect host, pouring the wines, preparing the dishes personally, and explaining the nuances of the wine production. Overall an excellent experience. And the price is affordable allowing us to purchase half a case with which to remember the afternoon."

  • "Take an hour out of your Sonoma trip to stop here (around lunch time - you're going to eat). Best food and wine pairing. Because the menu changes so frequently, it's not helpful to identify what we had. But it was our 3rd visit, and each time the food is excellent, served with energy and passion. This is a "do not miss" on each of our trips."

  • "A serendipitous treat! My first time was a complete accident -- my boyfriend and I had stumbled upon this place after an entire day of wine tasting and walked in thinking it was another tasting room that was on our Wine Tasting pass. We were disappointed to find out that the actual tasting room was a few miles down the road, but Clayton greeted us and explained what the Reserve room was all about -- 7 mini courses and wine pairing! We are self-proclaimed foodies and decided to jump on a reservation for the next day. The next day, we went in for our pairing and immediately were in love! I applauded every single piece of food in front of me and we vowed to be back! Come october, we were there again and I was (again) applauding each dish."

  • "What an amazing experience this is. A leisurely seated seven course pairing of excellently prepared and presented small plates with rare Mayo family reserve wines. Service is top notch, each course is delivered and explained by the chef and the size of the pours very generous. Making a reservation by open table ensures your table is set and ready when you are. Highly recommended when in wine country."
