Diner Reviews
  • "Do I need to say anything else? The wings and cakes for brunch are the perfect combo of salty savory and sweet."

  • "Good food, good service, and food came to the table quickly. The waiter was subpar, however. It was out first time at the restaurant and he was not helpful when asked his opinion on the dishes and it seemed he was rushing us/in a hurry to land the table when we were deciding our drink orders. When it came time to pay the bill, we informed the waiter we would need the bill split and he said he was unable to split the bill, but he could ring it up separately at the register. We each placed our credit cards in the wallet and the server then stated he couldn't determine the amt to put on each card meaning we needed to calculate the price of our food x tax. Seems stupid to me."

  • "If you don't go for anything else their Crème Brulee French Toast is the go for!!! I looked these guys up on yelp, tripadvisor, etc....and lots of folks make mention of their chicken, it was okay. My husband and I went for brunch and tried to sample at least a quarter of the menu options....#1 was the Crème Brulee French Toast, Close second was their Chicken Fried RIBEYE!!"

  • "Brought 2 friends for their 1st time...they loved the food and so did also. Only problem I had was being charged for something I didn't get...I forgot to remind the waiter to take item off my bill."
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "The food was absolutely devine!!! My friend had the famous champagne and chicken and I had the chicken and risotto, the service was impeccable. Highly recommend!!!"

  • "Mac and cheese is to die for. I'm sure everyone's already heard it but every time I go the mac and cheese is perfection. Consistency like that is very hard to find. I have the problem in my own restaurant. We came pretty late, one of the last people in the place and everyone was perfectly nice about it. I understand how much that sucks when you think you get to go soon and then someone walks in but they were respectful and pleasant about it. Sat at the bar and had a wonderful meal. Thank you guys!!"

  • "music was so loud at 10am that at our table of four we couldn't carry on a conversation. This was a sunday brunch not a frat party"
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "dined at Max's on a Sat night (there were four of us). Food just okay fish and chips were fishy. Mashed potatoes VERY SALTY and I enjoy salt. Friends gnocchi way too salty. Highly salted food is an egregous error and Max's was guilty of this in three of the four dishes we ordered."

  • "the menu did not have everything that you were able to orderthe dish we wanted was not on the menu but we asked the waiter about it and it was available"

  • "Hello, We enjoyed our dinner. I had Bison Sliders and my date had the Salty Dog. We both loved every single bite of our meal. This place is fun to have dinner with wine. Our waiter was great and we have had him before and he is always on top of things and gives great suggestions. We will be back. One tip....make reservations ahead of time."

  • "The Friday-Saturday food seems to be cooked better, in my experience. I got the fried chicken they are famous for on a Wednesday and the white meat was dry and overdone. The fried oyster nachos were unusually messy, but still tasty. Their presentation was a bit lacking this time."

  • "The noise level is unbelievable. My husband and I might have forgiven the noise level if the food had been better. I had Max's eggs and it was actually pretty good except for the mystery meat that was so tough that I couldn't cut it with a steak knife. My husband's chicken fried ribeye was so salty it was virtually inedible. In addition to the abundance of salt, there was also an abundance of fat. The worst offence: we ordered a bottle of champagne (very fairly priced at brunch) only to have our waiter open it and leave it on the table with no ice bucket! By the time we finished, the champagne was flat and room temperature."

  • "The fried lobster special is a must have if it's offered!! Delicious goodness! Red wine list is much better than their white wine list. Service is always friendly, knowledgable and attentive."

  • "This place has great food but in such a small space. I was literally touching elbows with the neighboring tables. Not a good place for claustrophobic! There were little gnats flying around and I had to keep swatting my food, mind you I was indoors. The waiter was never around and messed up my order. The food was amazing tho. I had the creme brûlée French toast with house potatoes (which were dripping in grease) and my boyfriend had te jakes cakes and wings. The wings are to die for!"

  • "So I've been heAring great things about this place and been dying to go! Went for Father's Day I will say reservations are need so you don't have to wait. I had the southern fries chicken... It was just like my grandma's greens where cooked perfect and the potatoes where just like I like em seasoned and fresh! My BF had the lobster tail with chicken fried chicken he says everything was mouth watering. We also got a bottle for mimosas and the champagne they served with it was by far the best. Not too bitter not & not to bubbly! Price was fit for that plate of heaven!!"

  • "We ordered tapas style by choosing several appetizers. Pan Boracho - not my cup of tea, my girlfriend said it could have used some salt. Lobster Fries - Good, but not worth the $24 it cost. Chicken Sliders - Yummy! And of course the collard greens are always great!"

  • "Another great visit to Max's! One of my favorite places to go with friends and hubby. Brought my 78- yr old Mother and brother there since they were in town for graduation. We ordered for the table and chose the wine - both of which were great! My mother was bothered by the noise level and overlapping conversations from closely- situated tables. As a younger person (40), I had not really noticed before or been bothered by it, and I realized it may have been a bit much for her. Overall, they loved the place, loved the food, but perhaps too much for an older adult. Ps make sure you ask them to add Applewood Smoked Bacon to the Mac and Cheese and not to forget the honey- chipotle sauce for the fried chicken- egg sandwich was perfecto!"

  • "Been here several times and always enjoyed it. Seating is tight and the valet can be backed up at times, but it's Washington Ave. Wish the mindless were bottomless. Will come here again."

  • "You can never go wrong when dining at Max's. The fried chicken and Max N Cheese alone will have you hooked, but the chicken fried lobster is the line and sinker. I have never had anything so tastefully well blended in my life. My friends always get the fried chicken, but this time they tried my dish and then ordered it as well as the fried chicken and Max N Cheese. Our table was full of food excellence!"

  • "The problem with Friday lunch at Max's Wine Dive is that there are too many varied offerings to choose from. A really GOOD problem. I had the mushroom omelette and the mushrooms were seasoned to perfection. It will be hard to try something different next time."

  • "Have only went for brunch, but everything on the Max's menu has been extremely tasteful and well out together. Started out with Mimosas, which are built with a bottle that's at a discounted price during lunch. Worked my my way to Jake's Cakes and Wings. The fried chicken is perfect. Not much more needed to describe that. Now the cakes are something unexpectingly tasteful. The corn flavor mixed with peppers offset by syrup is the best of the Salty and Sweet world at the same time. Service is usually good, especially considering how busy they always are for brunch. I would recommend setting a reservation in advance. "

  • "I came to dine in around 8 pm last Friday with a group of friends. We were having a great time talking and enjoying our food. The server Russell brought us the check and we were told that we could not split the check. Russell had the nerve to tell us to pay with our debit/credit cards and add the tax. We did not have a problem writing down what each person ordered, but we all ordered the same entree and drink. What really upset us is that he had the nerve to tell us to add the tax after each wrote down what we ordered. He was very rude and I will not return to this location. "

  • "I love this brunch and the waiters are great! The food is fabulous and I have never been disappointed with an item on the menu. However, the restaurant is not kid-friendly and especially isn't accommodating when dining with an infant in a carrier. Other than that, I will continue to patron the restaurant, however it could never be a family dinner or dinner with children because it's just too incovenient."

  • "I have been to Max's Wine Dive several times and this place never disappoints. It's good for foodies as well as those who are not quite as adventurous too. Max's is a great place for a romantic date or for a group of friends looking to share some good food and wine. I can't get enough of this place!"

  • " The venue is not much more than a strip center bar, but the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. My husband and I were expecting a nice evening drinking good wine. What we did not expect was exceptional food. I was so pleasantly surprised by the food, it is now a go to restaurant on our list… I also want to say hats off to the staff.. what a wonderful evening... "

  • "This is my first time offering my opinion anywhere, ever. My wife and I enjoy Max's. The flavors are great and the fried egg sandwich is one of our favorites. This time we ordered the Pan Borracho and the Nachos. The flavors are great. But I was let down by the design of the dishes. The nachos are served all stacked up to where it makes it difficult to wrangle the nachos where you get consistent bites. You can get one chip that is nicely loaded or, if you don't work it right, you'll end up with a bare chip. There's a reason restaurants that serve nachos serve them spread out on a platter generally. I just think the design of the dishes are choosing look over function. We both agreed we wouldn't order either of these dishes again. "

  • "Don't know if the restaurant was just off or what. Ordered a $22 burger ($4 upgrade for two pieces of bacon and a smidge of blue cheese). Meat was way overcooked, dry and crumbly. Bun was stale. That's the bad news. The happy hour fried chicken wings were superb, the pulled pork stuffed peppers won raves, too. The french fries with the burger were excellent. Overall service was OK, server was mostly disinterested but got the job done. Nice happy hour syrah at $7/glass. Advice: Stick with the appetizers, small plates and fried chicken. Don't go near the burger."
