Diner Reviews
  • "Always a great meal and ambiance at any restaurant in the Max Group"

  • "Max Amore has always held a special place in my heart; I've been going there since its inception.I 've generally gone on a busy weekend (or even weekday) night when the place was full and hopping. This visit was an early Sunday evening (around 5 PM) when the restaurant was about 1/3 fullOur service was casual (at best) with some inattention to our needs. The dinner we ordered was overcooked; our waitress checked on us long after it was delivered. We were gratised a free dessert which was our favorite, Tiramisu! Though I still hold a warm spot in my heart for Max Amore, this visit was VERY disappointing. I will try them again and hope this was just an anomaly"

  • "We had stone pies and salads. The stone pies were outstanding - lots of flavor especial the chicken version."

  • "First of all, the food was not worth the price well some of it at least: 2 of our guests ordered a salad and stone pies which they really liked but friend of mine and myself ordered a risotto ( we area vegetarian- the menu has a limited choice) and got poor tasting cup of rice mixed with some cream that wasn't blended good with the rest of the ingredients. It needed spice and was missing flavor, rice was hard also not very mushroom y since there was only couple of pieces. Overall I must admit that I really regretted my choice of entree and for sure not going to recommend or order that again. We didn't not want a "scene" especially on the day of my husband birthday which brings me to my second complain."

  • "The food and service used to be much better here. It was extremely slow this time and the tables are entirely too small to fit two comfortably."

  • "MaxAmore, Max Fish and Max DOwntown have consistently offered a negative experience. The most recent was from a rude hostess I called to let them know we were running a few minutes late. The same gruff person sat us - no eye contact - just rolled them and led us to our table. We sat where loud music was playing while several staff were talking to each other while cleaning up for the night. We didnt order - just left. We now have a gift card we are looking to get rid of. Hopefully they will have better service. The other negative things from the other restaurants were: -again service - unfriendly waitress -way overpriced - very poor presentation of food on needing-to-be-replaced dishware"

  • "We had Sunday brunch at Max Amore. I had lunch there the previous week and had a yummy seafood dish. I did not see it on the menu this Sunday. I described it to our waitress and she very willingly asked the chef if he could make it. He graciously recreated it for me. There were pleny of other items on the menu to choose from so I would understand if he could not make it. Both our waitress and chef were very friendly and accommodating. Thank you."

  • "I come all the way from Massachusetts to have lunch with my friends in CT, my former home. We always choose Max Amore because of the variety of offerings that are always tasty. Order the Insalata Tuscana; you'll love it!"

  • "Food was delicious, our waitress was attentive, friendly and funny! Our reservation was for 6:15P and there was no problem. Would highly recommend."

  • "Met a dear friend for lunch at Max Amore on a Friday. The menu options were perfect and I am gluten free and was delighted to have a pasta dish with gluten free pasta that was just wonderful. We weren't rushed and were able to linger at our table for a long time which we appreciated. the wait staff were attentive and food just delicious as always."

  • "Max's has a well known name. We chose your restaurant on a week night(Thursday) thinking that the noise level would probably be minimal, if at all. It was not. The noise level was beyond anything even relatively understandable or comfortable. People get use to particulars in their work environment, and they accept it as 'part of the job'. Sometimes patrons NEED to be reminded to 'act accordingly' within the establishment they are 'visiting'. If they are not, other customers like myself and my guest, see no need to frequent your restaurant. For the average customer looking for a relaxing night out, Max Amore in Glastonbury is NOT the place to visit regardless of the night."

  • "Went here on a once-a-month date night with my hubby on Saturday. We like to pick a new restaurant to go to each month. We love the Max Restaurant Group so decided to go to Max Amore. We had a late(ish) reservation and felt like our server was rushing us out the entire time. He was trying to up sell every dollar he could. The food was way too salty on every dish we had. Such a shame because we've had amazing experiences with every other Max's. Won't be back here."

  • "Overall wonderful experience. Our server Kim went above and beyond for us. The food was excellent. Our server and the kitchen were very accommodating to our family!"

  • "Food and service very good. Waitress very knowledgeable and friendly. Only complaint was the table we were given was right by the door to the kitchen when clearly better tables were available and never filled. As it was a Friday night, I assumed the other tables were reserved, but that appears not to be the case."

  • "Dined with a co-worker who was in from Denver, CO and as usual MA did not disappoint. The sea scallops were tender and cooked to perfection and the Penne Ala Vodka is always perfect. We also started with a Mozzerella salad that was to die for. We had a booth, which was perfect for the two of us and although our waiter looked upset (the look on his face) most of the night - maybe tired? - he was very attentive throughout our meal. He did rush us out when we wanted to talk for an hour after the meal (it was a Wed night). Max Amore hosted my wedding shower in April 2004 and I have loved them even before that!"

  • "The food was OK. My pork chop was excellent, but our mussels and my wife's salmon tasted a bit fishy. We did have a great time, though, and they do have an excellent wine list."

  • "They served warm, gluten free bread(sticks) prior to the meal, which were very tasty. I had my first pizza here after being diagnosed with celiac disease a few months ago. They use Still Riding dough, which reminds me of corn bread. It was not bad. I do wish there were more toppings on the pizza, as It had large areas of "naked" dough. My husband had linguine with clams, which he enjoyed. My daughter had a regular pizza, which she was not jazzed about. All in all, it was a good experience for me, and I will return."

  • "Don't waste time reading the reviews...just go there. Food was great. Had family meatball app (real Italian meatballs, not that frozen stuff), Bombolotti for me (a good sized portion, not as large as some other restaurants that try to substitute quantity for quality, and probably still more than some strict dietary guidelines, could taste all the individual ingredients), chicken parm for wife (again a good sized portion), tiramisu (fantastic, creamy and not overpowering with coffee/espresso flavor), & capuccino (strong, flavorful, goes down easy, no burnt or overpowering flavor). Never had to wait for water glass refill (well, did wait once for about 30 seconds). 5:15 pm Sat reservations but arrived 10 minutes late and seated promptly."

  • "This is a great restaurant. I've gone several times for lunch with friends and we always enjoy our food and ambience. During the evening the noise level can get a little loud - but the food is always great and the service is wonderful. Will go again, especially for lunch."

  • "Max Amore is one of our favorites and normally the staff is helpful, friendly and attentive. However; the gal who waited on us this time was awful. The wine list had changed and there was no suggestions offered, she seemed very impatient, was gruff and un-attentive :( Disappointing! Food - excellent!."

  • "My only complaint is that we had a 6:00 reservation, were told that they were running 10-15 mins behind, and didn't get seated until 6:30. Then, my husband and I felt very rushed through our meal, as though the server was trying to turn over our table due to the long line of people waiting."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "Although the food was good the whole place was too noisy to my liking and we had to wait at least 30 minutes even though we had a reservation. Would not recommend this place for special occasions."

  • "Made a reservation for 615, arrived just before 615, was told they were a little behind, was finally sat at 650 after several other people that were walk-ins or had a later reservation. Hmmm! To make matters worse, several people were waiting for there reservations and a couple entered at 635 for their 600 reservation and was given the next available table by a female floor manager, Apparently a Regular that is very pushy as he had to wait about 3 min and he approached the staff a second time as to when they would sit. "IM SORRY YOUR OVER 30 MIN LATE & WE HAVE GIVEN YOUR TABLE AWAY is what should have been said. All that were waiting were completely shocked. There's more to my story but why go on. THE MEAL AND SERVICE WERE OUTSTANDING."

  • "Advertise a Gluten Free menu but were unable to product one when I asked. Had three different people tell me they weren't sure what I could and could not order which made me feel very unsafe ordering anything at all so I ended up leaving without ordering anything. Also, this was on Valentine's day and ruined the night because it was very upsetting. Something should not be advertised if it can not be followed up on."

  • "Enjoyed a delicious meal on Valentine's Day. I made a reservation a few weeks before to ensure a table. The food and wine was outstanding. The restaurant was very busy because of Valentine's. Day, so it was quite loud even though we were place in the back room. They can't help that.--all the staff were attentive and friendly."

  • "At most Italian restaurants there are many options for vegetarians--not so at Max Amore. Very limited, and one at least is only pasta with no vegetables or anything with it."

  • "Another great meal at Max Amore - fresh made pasta with multiple preparations. Very busy on a Saturday evening in both the bar and restaurant. Seated within 10 minutes and all requests were immediately granted. As a party of 4, all the appetizers, dinners and deserts were delicious, portion appropriate and served quickly after ordering. House recommended wine was a great value that also contributed donations to a charity. We always leave a Max restaurant with a satisfied feeling and this did not disappoint."

  • "Nothing would really make me go back. Food was good. Service was OK. The restaurant in general seemed a little chaotic. When the server greeted the table, we were immediately asked what we would like to eat after only having been sat for not even a minute. But, waited about 15 minutes to actually receive drinks after they were ordered. We felt rushed by the server, but waited a pretty long time for anything to actually happen. Everything was pretty average."

  • "Had a very bad experience here years ago. Decided to give them another try since I had a gift card. Noise level was really high. I would not call it 'energetic' as noted above. I'd call it more really annoying. Was seated on time with reservation. I give them kudos for that since that was the issue last time. Food was so-so. Was not cooked to the doneness I requested. Service was poor. We were more than halfway through our meals before she came back and asked if everything was all right. I observed the waiter at nearby tables was frequently checking in with his customers and was much more friendly. Will I go back.....not sure. I still have over $60 in gift cards to use."

  • "My husband and I had the Steamed Cape Cod Mussels with one of their featured wines, the Ferrari-Carano Siena. Delish!! We've been here several times and it's usually pretty busy and service is always very attentive. We arrived at 8pm on a Sunday and it was very quiet and intimate."
