Diner Reviews
  • "always excellent food and service. our son and friend had their first meal at Masala and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great location, wonderful food and service."

  • "I can't say ENOUGH good things about this establishment, the staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and always give great recommendations. The signature dishes are amazing and the ambience is very nice and romantic. I've never tried anything here that has been bad, if you are in the mood for some great cuisine do yourself a favor and try this gem out; you won't be disappointed. I just hope they are able to get that mango cake back it was an amazing dessert to go with an extraordinary dining experience :)"

  • "We had a delicious dinner in a lovely atmosphere. The waitstaff was friendly. My only suggestion would be to not bring the entrée out while diners are still finishing up the appetizer. We wanted to enjoy the meal a little longer; we did not feel deliberately rushed, just that it was too quick. We will definitely be back."

  • "Went in for lunch during the week with freinds then....went back for dinner!!! Very reasonably priced. The place is very well decorated so you expect to pay a lot more for your meal. Not the case here. Well worth a try if enjoy Indian foods and breads. The wait staff was very helpful in ordering foods as well as ensuring everyone's "spicey" tolerances we met. Great place."

  • "I'm not a huge fan of Indian food, but I really did enjoy what I had. Additionally, the wine my wife had was terrific. I had a Taj Mahal beer which was interesting, but not worth going out of my way to find. Again, the food itself was awesome. Just can't recall what it was."

  • "Masala Bites continues to deliver with great Indian cuisine. The lamb, chicken, and seafood are all fantastic. The chat of the day was, as expected, excellent. The only knock on Masala Bites is the service. Waiters are well intentioned but stretched. A leisurely paced meal is desirable, but servers need to be a bit more attentive."

  • "Marsala Bites is located in a developing area that does not attract a lot of people, yet. We arrived at 6pm and were the only people there. The next patrons did not arrive until after 6:30, when we left at 7pm there were 4 tables in use. The food was good and the wine list was very impressive. The Spicy Shrimp bites are a bit salty but if you ask they can tone it down for you. The Goat curry had way more bones than I was used too but the Manager offered to give me a new dish free to make us happy. But we passed on that. The Surf & Turf was awesome, very tender lamb cuts with prawns. "

  • "Must try the cauliflower appetizer! Looking forward to going back to try more dishes. A little pricey but worth it. I could have ordered a little spicier but every individual item on our plates was cooked to perfection. "

  • "Our book club met for dinner. Our server was knowledgable, friendly and incredible patient with 8 women with no experience with Indian food. The garlic naan and paneer fritters were a wonderful beginning to our dinners ranging from different patias to the prawns. Truly a wonderful evening."

  • "This place is great. It's difficult to decide what to order because everything sounds so good. The servers are very helpful in describing the dishes and are always attentive. The spice level goes from 1-5 depending on your preferences as well. The food comes out quick and is delicious! I love this place and wish it was closer to my house."

  • "We were looking for a quiet meal prior to the Super Bowl. She who must be obeyed had never tried Indian cuisine and I hadn't had it since 1973 in Amsterdam. The server was most helpful in assisting us in making our selections and although we anticipated a lot of spice the Chef met our requested level of heat dead on. Our meals were expertly prepared and presentation was excellent. Even the shrimp were perfectly cooked, sweet and not tough at all. We plan to return soon for what we are sure will be another excellent meal."

  • "This little hidden gem has the best Indian food in the Beach. The Naan is light, crisp where it needs to be, the Korma is to die for. Many choices for entrees. They let you choose your heat level, another plus. Wine list is not extensive but certainly adequate, beer list is fairly long and international! The service is excellent. Prices are very reasonable. We have been a few times and will certainly be back."

  • "really the most tender lamb ever! i dont recall the name - but its the longest name/title in the menu! just try it! grear flavors!! great service!! get the goat/spinach bread - insane! and the assorted naan - have some to go an enjoy some hummus at home reminiscing on your last night dinner thats what we did!! two thumbs up on a randomly found gem - on our lighthouse road trip!"

  • "My girlfriend and I went for our anniversary, and it was wonderful. We decided to get a few different appetizers and a single entree to split between us, and there was food for one or two more people. Especially the naan plate, it was a sampler platter of naan bread and they gave us the right amount: more naan (the garlic naan was probably my favorite). We split the chicken masala and it was super tasty, so tender and flavorful. The only disappointing thing was that there was a couple who had brought their toddler with them that was sat in the booth next to us, he was mostly well-behaved, mostly, but I felt that he was a little out of place, especially when he made a few loud baby noises. But that's not really on MB. Bottom line: Fantastic"

  • "The food was great, plentiful, and it was served hot. The waiter was informative for people who do not frequent Indian restaurants often, but the service was just ok. We had to grab another waiter to bring us more water. Contrary to the name, Masala Bites, it is not just a tapas kind of restaurant. The protein/veggies are chosen with the sauce of your choice. ours were served with bowls of rice and they will gladly bring you more rice. Glad we went there."

  • "First time here, just passing through the area. Interesting menu, very attentive to vegetarians and most preps are gluten-free. The foods I tasted were flavorful and a little unusual. I liked that! The services was dreadful: friendly but things got all messed up. A soup had been left standing in the kitchen, arrived tepid at best. Server didn't know if it was meant to be a cold or hot soup. I cancelled it and went with a salad. Salad arrived and a new soup arrived - free of charge (should have compted the salad). The suggested naan was like a breakfast naan - slathered with jelly. Not for me. I would return but the resto seemed a bit out of sorts this evening. Menu enticing."

  • "The appetizer was hotter than expected, the menu was limited (for a Sunday) but there were vegetarian options. The hostess put us near a table with h noisy kid, yet there was room to put us far from the child. Beware, for a group of six or more there is an added gratuity"

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by the upscale and modern atmosphere of Masala Bites; it's a nice deviation from most other Indian restaurants in the Hampton Roads area. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it took our server over 10 minutes to greet us...thankfully the hostess filled our water glasses when she sat us. But the food was fantastic and, luckily, the server made up for his slow start by making some stellar recommendations ... AMAZING flavor (especially the Chili-Mili Shrimp!)"
