Diner Reviews
  • "Four of us went to Marguax's for dinner and drinks after a busy work week. We dined on the patio and thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing and wonderful evening. The drinks, food, and service were all excellent. We will be back."

  • "We have eaten there many times; it has always been good with excellent value. This experience didn't quite match up; food was not as good, but we will return, especially for the pre-6:30 p.m. special. Lujnch is an excellent deal."

  • "I had not been to Margeaux's for a few years but always enjoyed it in the past. This visit let me know it's still the same place with great food and atmosphere."

  • "I ordered the scallops whic h were under cooked. I ask the server to return them to the kitchen. When I got my plate back, they were still under cooked and the sauce was so salty I couldn't eat them. No mention was made of taking something off the bill. Another diner ordered the grouper which was okay, but the sauce was gloppy. We would not return to this restaurant."

  • "My second visit and was pleased to try their 3-course dinner. I started with the fried shrimp with apple slices; my only suggestion is they only gave you two (2) shrimp and for a starter/first course, three (3) shrimp would have been appropriate. It was tasty. Followed with their baseball sirloin steak; great flavor and cooked to the perfect temperature. Finished with the key lime pie; also very good. Overall, excellent service and meal and I will return."

  • "Went to Margaux's to celebrate my father in law's birthday on a Monday evening. There were 8 of us including 2 small children. The atmosphere is eclectically decorated, very open and comfortable. We all took advantage of the Monday prefixe 3 course 19.99 menu. Everything was delicious though the first courses were small. The mains were of substantial size and dessert was ample as well. This is a steal at 19.99pp. The food is thoughtfully prepared and the seafood in particular is very fresh and of great quality. Service was slower paced but relaxing. Overall, everyone enjoyed their food including the children."

  • "Food was of average quality, portions were skimpy and over priced, even during Restaurant Week. The service was late, but very good and professional once the waiter found time to pay attention to us. The atmosphere was terrible - loud, crowded - too many tables in too small an area. Seriously doubt we will return."

  • "We went to Margaux's with another couple during Restaurant Week, so our menu was a little different from the standard. I LOVED the "burgundy" soup that they offered as an appetizer, and the meat dishes were all very nicely plated and delicious. We were a little put-off by the firm statement in the menu refusing to make accommodations (my husband had a bad dairy allergy, so it meant that he was only able to eat half of any meal on the menu, restaurant week or no) and weren't particularly impressed by the service (server kept checking on alcoholic beverages, but left the fountain drinks empty for most of the meal), but on the whole, we enjoyed the experience and would go back for a nice date night."

  • "Our first time at Margaux. It has a very interesting artistic decor that we liked. We all had the 3 course prix fixe dinner. While good, nothing was spectacular. We will return though and try other menu items. The tilapia was served panko fried and I found it to be a little greasy and heavy. Putting the fried fish on top of the fries made the fries limp and greasy. Everyone enjoyed their starters - fried shrimp, spring roll, chicken kabob & caesar salad. Salmon was announced to be good but not great. Same with the steak. The desserts were a big hit: key lime pie, bread pudding and the profiterole especially (cream puff with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce) was to die for! "

  • "I took my friend there for her birthday and was happy I did. The staff was very attentive and decor quite charming. The food was amazing; every single bite was a delight. I've been to Margaux's twice and will keep going."

  • "The pork shank was very good and my wife had the scallops which were also very good but the waitress was the best! Very attentive without being too hovering but also informative and very nice. "

  • "I have been hearing good things about Margeaux's for quite some time, but hadn't made it out there yet. We tried it during Triangle Restaurant week and it was quite fantastic. It was busy (considering it was a week night) but this obviously spoke to how popular the restaurant was - and for good reason. The place is charming - the decor is delightful, always something to on a wall or round a corner to catch the eye. The food was splendid, and the wine list is extensive. We will return!"

  • "We went for the restaurant week prix fix menu and found they do this on a regular basis. Our waiter had a large section of tables and treated us very personably along with other diners we noticed. The food was great and such a nice night to dine in their outdoor seating as well. Would definitely recommend this place & plan on coming back in the near future :)"

  • "The food was deliciousl, but the waitress we had was OUTSTANDING! We were celebrating a friend's birthday and she was most helpful with recommendations. She also gave us space and did not rush any part of our meal!"

  • "Vibrant place. Great food. The escargot and soft shell crab appetizers were awesome. Staff is very knowledgeable about the food and wine."

  • "We enjoyed a Saturday evening meal. Service and food were excellent and portions generous. First time trying this restaurant and will definitely come back. Tip, sit at a table with chairs as the booth backs are very uncomfortable. "

  • "Service was good but the seafood didn't taste particularly fresh. Presentation lacked a quality that one would expect in a better restaurant. May have caught them on a bad night."

  • "I have never tasted Trigger Fish and it was recommended as the seasonal and local (Coastal Carolina) daily catch. Grilled with wonderful garnishments, it was outstanding along with a seasonal starter of softshell crab made for a very delightful overall seasonal seafood experience. "

  • "Food at Margaux is consistently great! I love to take my clients there especially after they close on their house. I recommend Margaux for special occasions."

  • "We have dined at Margaux's quite a few times in the past. Our last visit was not the best. It seems that the food quality and service has slipped."

  • "A fresh, creative and delicious menu. I only thing I can complain about it that it is not closer to where I live."

  • "we were seated within five minutes or so of our reservation and arrival. But unfortunately that was the only prompt thing of the night. Our reservations were at 8:15 and we were quite surprised that they were out of 2 of the items on the menu (especially the triggerfish which so many reviews discussed) so many options were discussed. "

  • "Often go here for special occasions. Food is always good, waitstaff always pleasant and knowledgeable. Nice meal on the Friday night before Mother's Day. "

  • "When we walked in & thought it was cool looking.Had a reservation for 8 at 5:30 on Sat. night. Seated in a boring party space for the larger groups. Service was a little slow. That may be them thinking nobody wanted to be rushed. Most did the Prix Fixe. Felt the price high for what we got. Ceasar salad & dressing was watery, bland. Had the Baseball Sirloin. Flavor was great, steak was tough. Two got the shrimp w/ Penne. They didn't get the same amount of shrimp. Crème Brulee would've been better with some berries. Then there was this blond woman walking around staring. She never spoke, but she had this air of arrogance about herself. It was though she was looking 'down' at you. We didn't feel we got our $300 worth. Will not go back"

  • "I can't believe that i'm now trying this place. I frequented Oliver Twist in the same shopping center prior to it closing, it has a similar vibe. It is a foodie's haven in a sea of franchise restaurant boredom. The prices were reasonable and I did the 3 course option which was well worth the price. I went with girlfriends and we all ordered something different, and enjoyed EVERYTHING, from the Ahi appetizer, to the salmon, the panko chicken, the cheesecake ...we are picky eaters with high expectations so that NEVER happens. I can't say enough about our experience, we will be back soon. The Featured drink had rum, ginger beer & simple syrup, I believe it was called The light at the end of the tunnel was awesome! No bad choices at Margaux's "

  • "This was a great recommendation for our anniversary dinner! Stephanie, our server, was energetic, friendly and fun. She helped guide our food decisions as it was so difficult to choose between all the great dishes. We will absolutely be back and have already recommended it to our friends."

  • "Margaux's continues to serve excellent food. One of our party ordered the prix fixe and two of us ordered from the regular menu. We were all pleased with the food and service."

  • "My husband and I have been coming here for years, sometimes to celebrate an occasion, sometimes just because, but this time it was for a bridal shower dinner, a total of 6 of us, and we were once again impressed with the menu options, wine list, and service. Our table was ready on time and our waitress was attentive and helpful."

  • "This experience was no different. On 4/4/14 my coworkers and I met our director there for a farewell dinner. Most of us ordered the specials they offered. What makes me mad is that what’s online was not on the menu. I had my first experience with fried food; the panko crusted tilapia; it was hard! And cut the top of my mouth! But no worries the other items made up for that. Then the place went quite! When either the chef or line cook had an out burst! He started screaming at the top of his lungs at a waiter.. The entire places just stopped and look at him in shock! How disappointing! No matter what was happening he handled it completely wrong… No one should be yelling at anyone anywhere!!"

  • "We usually do the Early Bird Special, which is one of the best deals around. Food is consistently good, service is atttentive and the price is right!"

  • "Most of the entrees are very interesting combinations of ingredients. Appetizers are great also. However, I don't recommend the Prix Fixe menu. It's something you could get from a pub."

  • "Margaux's has been open more than 20 years in North Raleigh. I hadn't been in probably 15 years, but was pleasantly surprised to nab a table for 2 on a rainy Friday night with 30 minutes notice. The triggerfish special was very nice, and the wine list was more than abundant. Our server was on her game, got the orders right, and handled my request to pay with a combo of gift card and cash discreetly. The place was a little on the noisy side, but not as bad as some places I've dined in recently."

  • "Very good food, atmosphere, people... excellent service!"

  • "My wife and I dine here more regularly than anywhere else, due mostly to the three course meal for $20 (before 6:30pm weekdays or all night Monday). I've yet to eat anything there that I didn't love, and their profiteroles are to die for, IMO. This review is for our last visit for my wife's 33rd birthday. We had a party of 9 and service was great. Courses came out in perfect order. The manager and male bartender are particularly nice and care a lot about customer service. If you're looking for a date night out for 5 star food and atmosphere at a reasonable price, this is the place to go. It's also worth mentioning that this is one of the few places I don't mind paying $10 for a mixed drink, because they actually know how to make them."
