Diner Reviews
  • "Went for a girls weekend and had a fantastic stay for dinner. Great wine list and delicious dinner."

  • "I've been to the Maple Leaf a few times and it's usually been very good. I took my Mother there for her birthday recently and was disappointed. The service was not attentive. It's best to anticipate your customers needs. Moreover, my steak was med-med well versus medium rare. I did not raise it (that is my mistake) as I did not want my mother and my 4 year old to wait for me to get another steak. Perhaps a refresher with your kitchen staff on rare/med-rare/medium/etc. would help if you've had similar comments from other patrons. Otherwise, perhaps it would just an off-night for that chef. Our server was charming and friendly, don't get me wrong, just not as attentive as I would have expected. She seemed busy/distracted."

  • "My partner and I found the appetizers to be good , but both our fish entres to be very dry and overcooked. We had a cracked water glass, service was too quick/ abrupt and clearing plates when the other people are still eating is poor timing . Overall , we came away hungry ! Would not recommend ."

  • "My wife and I had another fantastic dinner here. Every time we visit Banff we dine here. This dinner was as good as all of the others. Our server Jessica was outstanding--excellent knowledge of the entire menu, very efficient, very welcoming. The food was perfectly prepared and was well presented. Being able to enjoy this excellent place time after time is so much fun!"

  • "Enjoyed the food and ambiance. Service was wonderful . I was slightly surprised they didn't take advantage of a birthday - since I mentioned it when booking- in providing a wow moment for their guests. But it was still overall a great evening and if definitely go back, loved the food."

  • "Delicious food, excellent & friendly service, and very accommodating. I will be back!"

  • "Our waitress was awesome, she was very knowledgeable about the menu and how the chef prepared the food. Food was good, not a fan of the calamari, everything else was good!"
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "As always the food was incredible and the service was outstanding. We try to go every time we are in Banff."

  • "The food was very good when we went to the Maple Leaf, however, the service was kind of slow. This may have been due to a couple large parties going on in the upstairs area while we were dining in the lounge, but our waitress was nowhere to be found for much of the night and we were there for a long time without getting food. Other than that, I have no complaints. The food was very good all the way around."

  • "The food portions were generous and the quality of good was top notch. Our server was professional and personable, we would definitely recommend this restaurant to all our friends and family. It's great for all occasions!"

  • "It is the first spot when we come to Banff!!!Our night was perfect ,the food was amazing and we were treated wonderfully!!We will be back:)!!!"

  • "The bison burger and fries were amazing and more than enough for one person. My friend had the trout, which tasted great but looked to be about a three oz serving. Very small. We enjoyed the evening the waitstaff was very nice and did a great job."

  • "I took my mom for dinner for her 60th birthday and we had such a lovely experience. They brought her champagne which was such a nice surprise. Dinner was excellent. Our server recommended the Elk Meatballs for an appetizer, and they were delicious. I have never had elk before and I found it to be tasty, not gamey at all. My mom and I shared the seafood platter for two. It was excellent as well. After all that food there wasn't much room left for dessert. Perhaps next time I go, I will make sure to leave room for dessert."

  • "Server was very young and inexperienced. Food was mediocre at best. Read about the chef and then told he was gone and it was a new chef. Then update your website! When visiting Banff we wanted a unique and memorable experience. Food and service was better at Earl's. Bison stroganoff was tough and chewy, french onion soup bland. Caesar salad flavourless and veg meal for $26 bucks was a huge disappointment. Never again."

  • "Food was outstanding! Service could have been a little more attentive."

  • "I loved my experience! The food was delicious and the restaurant felt cozy. We will be back for sure! We were only 2 but there were larger groups."

  • "My girlfriend and I went to the MapleLeaf Grill for a special occasion, knowing that it would not be cheap... We were right, but we did not leave disappointed.. The food and service was exceptional. It is, by far, the best restaurant I tried in Banff. It is probably possible to keep the bill below 50$/person, but if you want to indulge yourself, expect it to be around 125-150$ / person.. It truly is a fine dining experience.."

  • "My family went to the Maple Leaf Grill for a special dinner and it did not disappoint. Everyone enjoyed there food from appetizers to dessert. The waiter was very attentive even though restaurant was extremely busy. Our party of 6 all ordered different items and everyone enjoyed there choices. We have dined at the restaurant in the past but this time it was by far the best, I think they have changed the menu offering more selections? Whatever they did we will definetly visit the restaurant again when in Banff,"

  • "Incredible foodstuffs (start with the Bison Corn Dogs! and continue on). We stayed with the Bison theme and were glad we did. The Canadian content on the wine list was excellent - the 2002 Henry of Pelham Cab/Merlot was amazing; augmented with a 1/2 bottle of Drouhin (French) Pouilly Fousse - delicious as always. The service was superb. The atmosphere conducive to all whether you wish to wear a jacket or a nice pair of jeans."

  • "When in Banff we always eat here. We have yet to have anything negative to say about the Maple Leaf. I recommend the Maple Leaf to anyone who mentions they are going to the Banff/Canmore area."

  • "Excellent food and service! Our salmon and steak entrees were mouth watering and we're still talking about the creme brûlée trio dessert! The bar and wait staff were superb! A must for any visitors to Banff! Would highly recommend!"

  • "The Maple Leaf Grill is a cozy friendly restaurant on the second floor; no elevator access in the heart of Banff. Its a popular dining venue so its a good idea to make reservations. I highly recommend the seafood platter for two."

  • "The Maple Leaf in Banff has a great selection for all tastes. Cozy atmosphere. Prices comparable to mid/upper-end restaurants in Banff."

  • "Very good experience. Went on New Years Day and was happy to see this was an option on Open Table. I had the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benny which was great, although it was a small portion- would have appreciated some hash browns :) All my friends were very satisfied with their meals."

  • "Five of us ate here as part of an annual tradition and it didn't disappoint. Three of us shared the cowboy steak, served on wood platter for easy carving, plus added the bison tenderloin. The meat is just outstanding and cooked perfectly. Side vegetables are nicely al dente. Aside from a lively table of 8 nearby, we still loved our meal. Service is professional, timely, yet still friendy and the ambiance is mountain casual. Upo first glance, you don't expect food this good but it easily rivals competitors like Le Beaujolais one block away. Another great experience and I have told at least 10 others to eat there. Share a cowboy steak!"

  • "My wife and I went out to dinner with another couple on a busy Friday night. I dropped off everyone in loading zone right in front of the restaurant and parked close by. We took our 10 mth old (babysitter cancelled!) and they had high chairs and a quiet place upstairs. Our server was Leo, who was attentive, knowledgeable about the wine and food menu. He was probably the best waiter I have had in five years to be honest. We started with the sampler game meat platter, highly recommended. For dinner, 2 had the bison tenderloin, 2 had salmon. We shared 3 desserts (chocolate lava truffle was great!). Best dinner/wine experience in 5 years and all I do is take people out for dinner for my job. About ~$100/person, well worth it."

  • "Went to the Maple Leaf for "Bon Appetit". Food was excellent as always. I highly recommend for lunch or dinner. Maple Leaf has the best Beef Burger in town"

  • "This place was a huge disappointment for lunch. First of all I do not go to a high class restaurant to be seated by and served by people wearing lulu lemon or stretch pants; absolutely inappropriate attire. To add to this was the high class, talk coming from the waitress and her "visiting friends". We did not need to listen to her friend discuss her trashy night out, nor did we need to hear the waitress discuss how she was planning to drive to Calgary to buy herself a really trashy dress for some party. Thank God our waiter was great, he really deserves a lot of credit for just actually being a real and personable person, and a great drink mixer. To bad the rest of your staff lacked that, and the hostess did as well. The food was mediocre."

  • "We have been here a number of times and have always had a consistently superb meal and exceptional service. I often order the scallops or quinoa salad, but for a change I tried the elk meatballs and they were great as well. The Game Platter (starter) is also a great sharing dish before mains. As for the main, I always order the wild B.C. salmon. The ambience is romantic, warm and cozy, but we've also always felt comfortable bringing our kids here. The wine list is very impressive."

  • "We were, frankly, very disappointed with the Maple Leaf Grill. We remembered it being one of the more enjoyable restaurants in Banff from a previous visit, however, this time it was unfortunately very average. The charcuterie and the scallop appetizers were of very good quality and started off the meal well. However, our main dishes were extreme disappointments. In short, the gnocchi dish was just about the worst execution of gnocchi that we have ever had. They were huge, doughy, undercooked balls that, for some strange reason, the chef decided to take in an Asian direction. It did not work, either in flavor or quality. In short, we were very underwhelmed this time. Will we go back the next time we are in Banff? Probably not."
